Victims are then sent a fake loan approval form and asked to pay processing fee, after which the scammers disappear, PRO informed. On another online loan method, PRO said loans are sanctioned instantly via private loan apps without much verification. However, after availing the loan, the scammers get access to victim’s contact list and personal data, which is then used to harass the victims and their references to the extent of blackmailing them with their personal data. Russian forces widen offensive after Ukraine partial ceasefire collapses MOSCOW/KYIV, MAR 5 (AGENCIES): Russia’s defence ministry said late on Saturday that it has resumed “offensive actions” in Ukraine after announcing a ceasefire earlier in the day to allow residents of two besieged cities to evacuate. The ministry also said that Russian forces in a wide offensive in Ukraine have taken several towns and shot down four Ukrainian Su-27 Jets, Interfax report stated. Earlier on Saturday, the Russian defense ministry had said in a statement that it had agreed on evacuation routes with Ukrainian forces to allow civilians to leave the strategic port of Mariupol in the southeast and the eastern town of Volnovakha “from 10 am Moscow time”. But the ceasefire collapsed later, with the Russian defence ministry saying that the offensive has resumed. While a vast Russian armoured column threatening Ukraine’s capital remained stalled outside Kyiv, the shelling in Mariupol showed Russia’s determination to cut Ukraine off from access to the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, further damaging the country’s economy. Putin warns 3rd parties against creating Ukraine no-fly zone: Russian President Vladimir Putin said Saturday that Moscow would consider any third-party declaration of a no-fly zone over Ukraine as “participation in the armed conflict”.

Putin accused Ukraine of sabotaging the evacuation and even claimed Ukraine’s leadership was calling into question the future of the country’s statehood, saying that “If this happens, it will be entirely on their conscience.” B e f o r e Ru s s i a a n nounced the cease-fire, Ukraine had urged Moscow to create humanitarian corridors to allow children, women and the older adults to flee the fighting, calling

ment, the sample positivity rate has remained below 5% for the last two weeks. During the week, seven districts recorded 0% WSPR while Mokokchung
recorded the highest at 3.1% followed by Wokha-1.5%, Kohima-1.1% and Dimapur-1%. It also informed that the month of February recorded 1,003 cases against 2,203 new cases in January 2022. Out of 2138 samples collected during the week, 22 tested positive for Covid-19 and three Covid-19 deaths (Dimapur-2, Kohima-1) were reported from the week, H&FW said. All three deceased had associated comorbidities while only one was found to
be fully vaccinated, it said. The department therefore reminded once again that vaccination of highrisk groups remain the most important preventive measure against hospitalization or death. deplorable NH-2 road condition
DIMAPUR, MAR 5 (NPN): Gauhati High Court Kohima Bench took serious note of the deplorable road condition of the National Highway-2 and directed the Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways, National Highway Authority of India, NHIDCL and Nagaland government to immediately take appropriate and concerted action so that the highway is made travel worthy and people’s suffering and woes are relieved to some extent. After hearing a suo moto public interest litigation (PIL), two-judge bench comprising justices Songkhupchung Serto and Devashis Baruah in an order dated March 2 stated that “unless it is immediately repaired, before the coming monsoon, the only highway that connects 5 to 6 million people of the State of Manipur and Nagaland and the so called National Highway/Trans Asia highway will have to be closed due to its deplorable condition.” Taking note of the road condition, they said one would wonder whether this (NH-2) is a real National Highway which is also sup-
posed to be Trans Asia highway connecting India with other South Asian countries as envisaged in the Look East Policy, which was now renamed as Act East Policy. “This highway is meant to play important role when it comes to connectivity and, trade and commerce not only for this part of the country but for the whole country. But nothing much has happened on this highway except the ongoing 4 lane construction between Dimapur and Kohima and repairing of the existing 2 lanes on Manipur side though 15 to 20 years has passed by since the policy was announced,” the court said. In fact, they said the road between Kohima to Mao i.e Manipur border town, has gone from bad to worse therefore, commuters have to literally negotiate between potholes which are big and deep making it very difficult to travel. They also said that for the past six years, the highway had not been maintained and nothing much was done to make it even travel worthy. (Cont’d on p-8) K Y M C
