D IMAPUR , MAR 1 4 (NPN): A 32-year old woman was killed and another injured in a road accident near T.L. Angami Park, New Chumoukedima here on Tuesday. According to traffic police, the woman identified as Imlirenla succumbed to her injuries at CISHR (Referral Hospital), after the vehicle (NL-01H 2592) she was driving collided head on with a truck (NL-01G 6342) coming from opposite direction. The other occupant of the vehicle sustained minor injuries, traffic police said. They were proceeding towards Dimapur when the unfortunate incident took place.

ANHTU phase-III agitation today

D IMAPUR , MAR 1 4 (NPN): All Nagaland Hindi Teachers Union (ANHTU) Tuesday announced that its phase-III agitation would go ahead as proposed against non-payment of nine months’ salary by the state government. In a joint press release, ANHTU president, Rometo Sema, and CSS Hindi Teachers convenor, Ilika Aye, said the phase-II agitation by CSS Hindi teachers was over but there was no positive response from state government till date. In this regard, ANHTU has directed all CSS Hindi teachers to wear black badge and reach the directorate of school education, Kohima on March 15, 2017 at 9 a.m. The union has reminded its members that to resort to violence during the agitation, since the protest was “purely non-violent agitation.”

D imapur, Mar 14 (NPN): Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) executive members and representatives of federating units held a joint meeting with five Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) on March 14 to entrench the political rights of the people of Nagaland “amid confusing arising out of gross political assumptions”. This was stated jointly by ENPO constituents-ENPO president Khoiwang Konyak, general secretary Monlang Phom; K.U. president Manlip Konyak, YTC president Keozhi, PPC president Chingan Phom, president Sangtam Chomhose Sangtam and execu-

State services bodies to agitate for 7th RoP

D IMAPUR , MAR 1 4 (NPN): All state services associations have threatened to launch pen/tool-down strike in the entire state with the exception of hospitals, educational institutions and emergency duties from March 20, 2017 if the state government failed to fulfil their demand within March 18, 2017 for implementation of the 7th RoP w.e.f. March 1, 2017. In a press release, Confederation of All Nagaland State Services Employees’ Association (CANSSEA) president, S. Takatuba Aier, said this was decided at a coordination meeting held on March 14, in connection with the memo No.CAB-2/2013 Dated March 11, 2017 relating to cabinet decision on 7th Central Pay Commission. Aier said the associations also decided to reject the decision of the cabinet to implement the 7th ROP w.e.f. March 1, 2018, which they viewed was against their genuine demand made several times since 2014.

ENPO, NNPGs reaffirm political rights of people of Nagaland

SHILLONG, MAR 14: The powerful North East Students’ Union (NESO) on Tuesday demanded deportation of all Hindu and Muslim Bangladeshis, who have illegally entered into Assam and other North Eastern states. The demand of the apex students’ body was after a group of people under the banner of Nikhil Bharat Bengali Udbastu Samanvay Samiti (NBBUSS) demanding citizenship for Hindu Bangladeshis and vandalised an All Assam Students Union office at Silapathar in Assam’s Dhemaji district. “NESO reiterates its firm stand on the issue of illegal migrants from Bangladesh and would

like to convey the organization’s long standing demand that all the Hindu, Muslim Bangladeshis illegally entered into Assam and other North Eastern states must be deported,” NESO Chairman Samuel Jyrwa said. “Assam Accord must be implemented in true spirit, and NESO believes that the proper implementation of Assam Accord is the solution of the illegal migrants issue,” he added. Jyrwa said that there is no question of taking the burden of “post 1971 immigrants Hindu Bangladeshis by the North East.” The apex students body also appealed for united movement by all the indigenous people of the region, “for effective solutions of the burning prob-

lems of the entire North Eastern region lest we will be a minority in our own land.” Condemning the act of violence and the act of violence and vandalism in the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) office by a group of people belonging to the NBBUSS, Jyrwa said, “The culprits must be nabbed immediately, and the guilty must be punished without any compromise.” “The people of the North East and the North East Students’ Organization is always with the indigenous people of Assam, and with the All Assam Students’ Union,” he said. The NBBUSS is spearheading a movement for granting citizenship to Hindu Bangladeshis by amending the Citizenship Act.

ATTAPPADI, Mar 14 (PTI): Human rights activist Irom Sharmila, who had a disastrous debut in the recent Manipur elections, will spend some time in Kerala’s tribal settlement of Palakkad district. She arrived in this tribal hamlet on Tuesday to be away from the post poll frenzy and made it clear she would continue her fight for human rights and protecting democratic values on her return. Sources close to her said that she would spend around one month in Attappadi, one of the largest tribal settlements of Kerala. Sharmila arrived here via Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu on her first visit to Kerala. The ‘iron lady’ of Manipur said she would continue her fight for human rights and protecting of democratic values. When asked about her poll debacle, she said “Nothing much constructive and transparent system in the political arena will be seen... Because, elections are based on money and muscle power.” Sharmila, who went on fast against AFSPA for 16 years, had contested from Thoubal constituency against Chief Minister O. Ibobi Singh but was relegated to the fourth position winning just 90 votes. Making it clear that she had not given up her fight, Sharmila said, “I will continue my fight for human rights and for protecting democratic values with more vigour after I return from here.” K Y M C
