IMPHAL, MAR 3: With two-phase elections in place, Manipur is all set to hold the first phase of the Assembly elections on Saturday amidst tight security arrangements. The polling is scheduled to from 7 a.m. The first phase will cover 38 constituencies for which 1,643 polling stations have been set up in areas spread over Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur and the hill districts of Churachandpur and Kangpokpi. In a pre-poll related vi-

olence, four vehicles of two candidates were torched by miscreants in Senapati on Friday, while Manipur Naga People’s Front (MNPF) has owned responsibility for the explosion at the residence of NPF candidate K Leishiyo at Langol in Imphal West on March 2. According to reports, two tata sumos, one bolero and an alto car, belonging to two candidates were hijacked by armed miscreants on March 1 and torched at a place near Purul village of Karong A/C of Senapati district on Friday. Bolero and one tata

sumo belonged to BJP candidate R Yuh Joanthan Tao from Karong A/C while other two belonged to LJP candidate TK Savanai. In another incident, a hand grenade was found at the courtyard of NPP candidate Vevek Raj Wangkhem, who is contesting from Kshtrigao A/C in Imphal East on Friday morning, around 8.30 am. Condemning the threat meted to candidates by planting explosives in their residences, locals of the area staged a sit-in-protest outside Wangkhem’s residence. Meanwhile, MNPF

has claimed responsibility for the blast at the residence of NPF candidate K Leishiyo, in which eight persons were injured including a woman. In a statement, MNPF assistant publicity secretary Thomas Numai accused Leishiyo of being hand in glove with NSCN (I-M). It also accused Leishiyo of “cheating, harassing and threatening people” during the election campaign in Pungyar assembly constituency, from where he is contesting. “NPF is not the enemy of the MNPF but because of Indian election,

NPF hand in glove with the NSCN (IM) in using force to the Naga people and indulging in creating fear psychosis and violating the rights of the Nagas in Manipur”, the statement stated. Earlier, according to MNPF, it had on February 21, 2017 warned NPF and other political parties and candidates in the fray in Naga areas not to take help of underground elements and desist from “any kind of terror acts” during their election campaigns. However, the outfit claimed that Leishiyo failed to heed on the advice.

DIMAPUR, MAR 3 (NPN): After more than three hours of deliberations at the Tourist Lodge here Friday, Nagaland Tribes Action Committee (NTAC) and Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) which had spearheaded the movement against imposition of civic polls conducted without consultations with apex tribe bodies for 33% women reservation , have resolved to pursue unfulfilled demands by the government. Talking to Nagaland Post JCC convenor Supu Jamir said the house resolved to serve a 7-day ultimatum on government for immediate suspension of former Police Commissioner Dimapur, police officers at Longleng and all personnel involved in the January 31 incident. The ultimatum would take effect from the date of submission with the government by next week. The two bodies warned that failure to accede to the demands would invite stern

action. The joint meeting also resolved to approach the state government to revoke the November 24, 2016 resolution of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly pertaining to the Nagaland Municipal Act. The house also re-affirmed to stick to its February 7, 2017 resolution no.3, which demanded Amendment of the Nagaland Municipal Act. The resolution was adopted during the meeting of all tribal bodies along with NTAC and JCC at APO Hall Kohima. In this regard, the house reendorsed NTAC and JCC to pursue the matter. Further Supu said Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) and Nagaland Tribes Action Committee (NTAC) along with all the apex tribal bodies resolved to launch a new “platform for the Nagas of Nagaland”. According to Supu Jamir, the resolution for formation of an all-state apex tribal organisation was unanimously adopted “in principle” by the house.

He said the apex tribal bodies of Nagaland have been entrusted to pursue the formation of the new platform. It was however clarified that the proposed state apex tribal body was not for any particular agenda but broadly to protect the Nagas and their rights from “various hidden agendas”. The sole objective of the proposed platform will be to unify all Naga tribes of Nagaland under one umbrella. Fur ther, the house resolved to approach the Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) to withdraw the Special Leave Petition filed in the Supreme Court by some of its members under the banner of JACWR. In this regard, the apex tribal hohos have decided to initiate necessary steps. Interestingly, the NTAC-JCC appear to have accepted as fait accompli, the mere swap for the chief minister’s chair as against the February 1, 2017 resolution in Kohima.

NPF flays blast at Leishiyo’s house T.R. Zeliang responsible for his own downfall: NPCC DIMAPUR, MAR 3 (NPN): NPF Central has vehemently condemned the bomb blast in Imphal near the residence of its candidate for Phungyar Assembly Constituency in Manipur, K Leishiyo on March 2 evening, where eight persons sustained injuries. NPF media and press bureau asserted that such mindless act of terror was most detestable and should

be condemned by all. The party appealed to all sections of the society to ensure free and peaceful polling and campaigning in the true spirit of matured democracy and not to indulge in any act of violence which would only alienate the people further from each other. Further, NPF said that expressions of differences in opinions and views on pub-

lic platforms are accepted norms of democracy, but resorting to violent activities to convey one’s point of view was most unbecoming in a progressive society. NPF also prayed for speedy recovery of all those injured, and urged the responsible authorities to investigate thoroughly and bring the perpetrators to book without delay.

DIMAPUR, MAR 3 (NPN): Stepping up its attack on the advisor finance and former chief minister, TR Zeliang, the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) on Friday stated that Zeliang himself was responsible for his own downfall. In an apparent reference to Zeliang’s speech at an election rally in Tamenglong, the NPCC through its media cell said that Zeliang explaining his position to the people of Ma-

The department also said that benami property “may be attached and confiscated by the government” and these actions are in “addition to actions under other laws such as Income Act, 1961”. The Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Amendment Act, 2016, designed to curb black money was passed by Parliament in August last year. The benami property refers to property purchased by a person in the name of some other person. The person in whose name the property has been purchased is called the benamdar and the property so purchased is called the benami property. The person who finances the deal is the real owner.

nipur would not absolve him in the eyes of the people of Nagaland. The congress alleged that the entire ULB election fiasco and the lawlessness that followed were because of the indecisiveness and mismanagement on the part of TR Zeliang and the NPF. It said Zeliang and NPF did not even hesitate to betray the institution of NBCC for their narrow political gains. Despite writing on the wall, the

NPCC said Zeliang stood defiantly prolonging the plight of the people “until some sanity prevailed among the spineless NPF legislators to abandon him.” NPCC also lambasted Zeliang and minister for education, Yitachu, saying both of them have got their facts wrong while comparing Manipur situation on use of central forces. It asserted that the entire central BJP leadership including Union

Home Minister Rajnath Singh have been relentlessly accusing Manipur chief minister, Ibobi Singh, of not using sufficient central security forces to stabilize the situation. On Thursday, the NPF central while defending Zeliang said he had only revealed the fact how Ibobi Singh has been clinging to power by using Central and State security forces available at his disposal. WHO list of drug-resistant bacteria is divided into three categories. Most critical group includes multidrug-resistant bacteria that pose a particular threat in hospitals, nursing homes and

among patients whose care requires devices such as ventilators and blood catheters. It includes Acinetobacter, Pseudomonas and various Enterobacteriaceae (including Klebsiella, E coli, Serratia and Proteus). AIIMS trauma centre doctors said at least eight patients were identified with colistin-resistant Klebsiella pneumonia at their hospital recently. “There are four common ways in which superbugs attack-ventilatorassociated pneumonia, surgical site infection, central line associated blood stream infection and catheter-associated urinary tract infection. If hospitals ensure proper care to avoid such infections, many lives can be saved,” said Dr Purva Mathur. K Y M C
