installing BSL-2 Lab in Dimapur

DIMAPUR, MAY 22 (NPN): Nagaland GB Federation (NGBF) has expressed surprise over the delay in completing the installation of Biosafety Level-3 (BSL-3) laboratory in Dimapur. In a press release, NGBF president Shalem Konyak, general secretary Shikuto Zalipu and media secretary Akhu Naga said that since Dimapur was the gateway to the mainland, the state government should have given priority to installation of the laboratory in Dimapur. The federation reminded that the neighbouring states have started the lab long time back. As a result, they said there were several cases being detected “probably because of people being tested.” Further, NGBF said the state government responsibilities towards students and others stranded outside state were “far beyond satisfactory”. GBs said it was “really painful” to see Naga children being harassed and abused outside the state. Claiming that the website created especially for stranded people was not functioning properly, the NGBF said

that due to malfunctioning many students were unaware of government’s programme and initiatives. It also claimed that some of the students, who opted to stay back and were entitled Rs.10,000, have not received the financial aid. In this regard, the federation has appealed to the state government to disclose all the list of stranded students with regard to the payment made. Stating that some sensible children have decided to stay back following reports of virus spreading from those returning home, the NGBF has, therefore, urged the state government to take proper care of those students who stayed. Pointing out that the Centre has already sanctioned certain amount to the state government to fight COVID19, the federation has appealed to the state government to be transparent concerning transaction and utilization of money. Meanwhile, NGBF has appealed to the state government to show “complete seriousness” in combating the COVID-19 pandemic.

D I M A P U R , M AY 2 2 (NPN): Several organizations such as- Darogapathar Youth Organisation (DYO), Business Association Darogapathar Village (BADV), Darogapathar Village Angami Community (DVAC), Tenyimi Union Dimapur( TUD) and Chakhro Angami Kuda Youth Organization (CAKYO)- have strongly condemned the “tax” served on the proprietor of M/s Progressive Motors Dimapur, allegedly by cadres of a Naga National Political Group (NNPG). In a joint statement DYO general secretary Otto K. Murumi and BADV general secretary Lima Walling expressed strong condemnation against the “harassment and taxation demands” meted out to the staff and management of M/s T.K. Service at a time when the whole world was reeling under the economic crisis caused by

COVID-19 pandemic. The two organisations reaffirmed the August 16,2016 resolution of the Darogapathar Village Council (DVC) for “one government, one tax” and ban on illegal taxation within Darogapathar village jurisdiction. The two bodies also urged upon the government of India and the “Naga national leaders” to bring an early political solution, which would help mitigate the multiple taxation faced by the Nagas and the business community in particular. DVAC: Darogapathar Village Angami community (DVAC) asserted that the “act of extortion” was the worst that could take place at a crucial juncture where the economy has come to a standstill and people were all struggling to make ends meet with limited resources at hand. DVAC general secretary Vitsolie Solo said that

the community vehemently condemned the alleged physical and mental torture of a fellow Naga entrepreneur by “a highly respected NNPG group”. Terming the act as “very uncalled for”, DVAC asserted that such act should be condemned to its core by every right thinking citizen. DVAC has, therefore, urged all the law enforcing government agencies to intervene at the earliest and provide necessary security and allow the proprietor to run his business without any inconveniences. TUD: Tenyimi Union Dimapur through its media cell said it was “anguished and disturbed by the action of the NSCN (U) demanding tax” from M/s. Progressive Motors Dimapur with a threat to close the show room and also warning the staff that they would be attending work at their own (Cont’d on p-5) risk. K Y M C
