NEW DELHI, MAY 14 (PTI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday expressed concern that the coronavirus pandemic is rapidly spreading in rural areas, as he urged citizens to take precautions, wear masks and maintain social distance to check spread disease that has claimed at least 2.6 lakh lives. The government, he said, is working on “war footing” to control the second wave of infections and is setting up new hospitals and oxygen generating plants while augmenting supplies of medicines and vaccines.

State logs 275 fresh cases, 13 Covid deaths D I M A P U R , M AY 1 4 (NPN): Nagaland on Friday reported 275 fresh Covid-19 positive cases and 13 more fatalities. Of the fresh cases, 176 were reported from Dimapur, 74 from Kohima, 13 from Mokokchung, six from Phek, two each from Mon and Peren, one each from Zunheboto and Longleng, taking the total caseload to 17531 cases. Out of 12 fatalities in the State, Dimapur reported eight deaths, three in Kohima and one in Zunheboto. The death toll rose to 190 that includes 179 Covid related deaths and 11 non-Covid deaths but with Covid-19 positivity. The state currently has 3741 active cases and with the recovery of 66 more patients, a total of 13034

India adds 3.43L new Covid cases, 4000 fatalities NEW DELHI, MAY 14 (PTI): With 3,43,144 people testing positive for coronavirus in a day, India’s Covid19 tally of cases climbed to 2,40,46,809, while the death toll rose to 2,62,317 with 4,000 fresh fatalities, according to Health Ministry. The active cases have reduced to 37,04,893 comprising 15.41% of the total infections. The national Covid-19 recovery rate has improved to 83.50%, the ministry said. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 2,00,79,599, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.09%, the data stated.

Sputnik Light may be India’s 1st one-dose vax

NEW DELHI, MAY 14 (AGENCIES): Russia’s Sputnik Light could be the first single-dose vaccine to be used in India and Dr Reddy’s will have discussions with the government and the regulator in June for an immediate launch, the company told NDTV today. “We are working very closely with our Russian partner and the Gamaleya Institute on this. As you may be aware, the Sputnik Light has already been approved in Russia. It demonstrated an efficacy of 79.4 per cent. This is a single-shot vaccine,” Deepak Sapra, the CEO of Dr Reddy’s, said in an exclusive interview. “What it essentially is, is that it is the first shot of Sputnik,” he explained, adding that a second dose would take the efficacy to up to 91.6 per cent. The possibility of Sputnik as India’s first singledose vaccine “depends on approval from the regulator and on the dialogue which we have with them and on the guidance we receive from the regulator,” he pointed out.

D I M A P U R , M AY 1 4 (NPN): Dimapur district nodal officer for managing Covid-19 activities and APC, Y Kikheto Sema on Friday said that there was an urgent requirement for creation of more hospital beds in Dimapur district in view of ever-increasing number of Covid-19 cases. After taking over for the second time as nodal officer on Covid-19 for DImapur, Kikheto visited health Institutions in and around the town and also interacted ith their managements and healthcare workers on Friday. Kikheto urged the doctors, nurses and staff of these institutions to be mentally prepared for the worst even with the existing facilities and infrastructure. N E W D E L H I , M AY 1 4 (IANS): Centre on Friday announced to supply nearly 192 lakh Covid-19 vaccines ‘free of cost to States and Union Territories (UTs) in the next fortnight from May 16 to 31. During this fortnight, 191.99 lakh doses of Covishield and Covaxin will be supplied to the states free of cost, Health Ministry said, adding that this will include 162.5 lakh doses of Covishield and 29.49 lakh

It further said that the states have been requested to direct the concerned officials to ensure rational and judicious utilisation of the allocated doses and minimise vaccine wastage.

“The basic objective behind informing the states and UTs in advance of the quantum of free vaccine doses to be made available by the Central government for 15 days is to ensure that they prepare effective plans for judicious and optimum utilisation of these free vaccine doses which are meant for the age group of 45 and above, and for healthcare and frontline workers,” the ministry said.

Prominent citizen Neisatuo Keditsu passes away D I M A P U R , M AY 1 4 (NPN): Prominent citizen, social activist and former Dimapur Town Committee chairman, Neisatuo Keditsu passed away on May 13 after a brief illness. He was 81 and survived by his wife, five daughters and two sons. The body of late Neisatuo Keditsu was laid to rest at his residence at Neisatuo colony in Dimapur on Friday. An advocate by profession, late Keditsu was also the founding member of Nagaland Bar Association.

NEW DELHI, MAY 14 (NPN): Over 1.74 lakh farmers from Nagaland were among 9.5 crore farmers who received Rs. 2000 each under the under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme on Friday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday released the eighth instalment of financial benefits worth Rs 19,000 crore under the PM-KISAN scheme to benefit more than 9.5 crore farmers. Moid released the instalment through video conferencing, which was also attended by Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio. According to the details made available an amount of Rs. Rs. 35,11,62,000 was directly transferred to the accounts of 174564 farmers from Nagaland. Modi also interacted with farmer beneficiaries during the event and said

that around Rs 1.35 lakh crore has been transferred to the bank accounts of farmers under the PMKISAN and Rs 60,000 crore during the Covid-19 pandemic. So far this year, Modi said that “about 10 per cent more wheat has been purchased at Minimum Support Price (MSP) as compared to last year”. “So far, about 58,000 crore of wheat procurement has reached the farmers’ account directly”. Under the PM-KISAN scheme, a financial benefit of Rs 6,000 per year is provided to the eligible beneficiary farmer families, payable in three equal 4-monthly instalments of Rs 2,000 each. The fund is transferred directly to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries. In this scheme, Samman Rashi of over Rs 1.15 lakh crore has been transferred to farmers’ families so far. K Y M C
