DIMAPUR, MAY 19 (NPN): After reviewing the current situation and taking into account the consistent rise of Covid19 positive cases in the State, the High Powered Committee (HPC) has decided to extend the ongoing State-wide total lockdown with existing conditions till May 31. This was decided at an emergency meeting of the HPC held at the chief minister’s residential complex, Kohima on Wednesday under the chairmanship of chief minister Neiphiu Rio to review Covid-19 situation in the State after imposition of the State-wide total lockdown from May 14. s Staff Reporter: Despite several warnings being issued by the state authoriteis to penalize defaulters during the lockdown under the Epidemic Act and sections of the Indian Penal Code, it has been observed that many people still continue to blatantly flout the lockdown guidelines in Dimapur, which is the worst Covid-hit district in the State. Particularly during the morning hours, people continue to throng the markets to buy essential commodities. Though authorities have said that the current situation was not a law and order issue, they said that people should by themselves understand the seriousness of the second Covid wave that has taken the lives of many and spreading rapidly by the day. A police official said that policemen have been carrying out their duties with utmost restraint while dealing with people. However, the official

Youth converts car into an ambulance

Mucormycosis: fungal infection affecting Covid patients NEW DELHII, MAY 19 (AGENCIES): Since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic there have been multiple reports across the country of very high incidence of mucormycosis among Covid-19 patients, especially in those who are diabetic and have received steroids, The Indian Express report stated. C ov i d A s s o c i a t e d Mucormycosis (CAM) has been associated with high morbidity and mortality, exorbitant treatment costs and has led to shortage of antifungal drugs.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Professor Arunaloke Chakrabarti, Head, Department of Medical Microbiology, PGI, and in charge, Centre of Advanced Research in Medical Mycology, shares the recommendations of the Fungal Infection Study Forum, of which he is the chairman, to clarify misconceptions regarding CAM, and Dr Rajesh Gera, senior consultant of internal medicine at Paras Hospital also weighs in. Though basically known to be a ‘hospital acquired’ fungal disease,

mucormycosis been attributed to various reasons, including unregulated drug use and lack of blood sugar surveillance during home isolation, a Times of India report stated. Several medical experts said many Covid patients and their relatives resorted to various experiments with drugs, based on messages on social media, unscientifically shared prescriptions, and also suggestions from unqualified doctors, which had a detrimental effect on their health.
