CNA not a Naga organisation: NPO DIMAPUR, NOV 7 (NPN): On the expiry of deadline served on Council of Naga Affairs (CNA), Myanmar to substantiate the allegation, the Naga Public Organization (NPO) Myanmar has declared that from now on it would not consider CNA as Naga organization so long as the “painted/non-Naga is involved in the setup.” CNA had alleged that NPO was carrying out activities that were detrimental to the unity of Naga people at the behest of RAW and IB of India, and in Myanmar, they were closely supported by the embassy of India and junta-backed USDP. In a press release, NPO chairman, Harti Yangli, and general secretary, Jojo, said the Naga Public Organization, which focuses on the pledge of rural populace and grounded on the mandate of all seven Naga major tribes of Myanmar, would never be moved by such cheap allegation. The organisation stated that on October 21, 2016, CSA information and public relation officer, Kejung Tangshang, called NPO chairman and told him that he resigned from the Council in August.

Home ministry to use ‘Daesh’ instead of ISIS NEW DELHI, NOV 7 (AGENCIES): The Home Ministry will use ‘Daesh’ for the dreaded Islamic State terror group instead of ISIS in all its correspondence. An in-principle decision has been taken in this regard and necessary instruction will be issued soon, official sources said. Daesh is an acronym for the Arabic phrase alDawla al-Islamiya al-Iraq al-Sham (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant). Essentially, it is another word for ISIS - which the terror organisation does not favour. The word is similar to the Arabic words ‘Daes’, meaning ‘one who crushes something underfoot’ and ‘Dahes’, translated as ‘one who sows discord’. Daesh or ISIS has become one of the most brutal terror groups in the world which killed hundreds of people after occupying a large area in Syria and Iraq in recent times. Several Indians have also joined the group while some other Indians were radicalised or recruited online by it.

NEW DELHI, NOV 7 ( AG E N C I E S ) : A m i d widespread condemnation over the one-day ban imposed on NDTV India, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) on Monday decided to put on hold its order against the prominent Hindi channel, according to news agency PTI. The decision was taken following a meeting between I&B Minister M Venkaiah Naidu and NDTV promoter Prannoy Roy. Earlier in the day, NDTV has challenged the one-day ban by the government after an inter-ministerial panel concluded that the channel had revealed crucial and “strategically sensitive” information when the terror attack on Pathankot IAF base was being carried out. The channel has moved the Supreme Court
in this regard. In a report on its website, NDTV has said that it refuted the allegations and “pointed out that other channels and newspapers reported the same information”. The ban is supposed to be implemented from 00:01 hrs on November 9, 2016 till 00:01 hrs of November 10, 2016. This is the first ever such order against a TV channel over its coverage of a terror attack, the norms regarding which were notified in 2015. The Editors’ Guild has condemned the ban and demanded that the decision be withdrawn immediately, saying it was reminiscent of the emergency period. “The ostensible reason for the order as reported is that the channel’s coverage of Pathankot terror attack on January 2, 2016 that the government claims gave
out sensitive information to the handlers of terrorists. NDTV, in its response to a show cause by the government, has maintained that its coverage was sober and did not carry any information that had not been covered by the rest of the media, and was in the public domain,” the statement read. It added that the decision to take the channel off air for a day was a violation of the freedom of media. The government, however, has defended the ban, saying freedom of press is important but the nation comes first. “We support freedom of press in a democracy but the nation comes first. There cannot be any compromise on national security,” BJP national secretary Shrikant Sharma said. The decision drew sharp condemnation from the Opposition.
mance. In order to tackle the issues, particularly to provide quality education, he said the state government has taken the initiative to train the untrained teachers, wherein in-service teachers are given the opportunity to take up B.Ed training. Despite the need for more institutions to accommodate in-service teachers to be trained, he said the government would not be able to encourage opening of more B.Ed colleges in the state, keeping in mind that institutions would only become commercialized and not focussed on imparting quality training. He urged upon the teachers to be truthful, sincere and to change their attitude to bring in positive change with commitment. Dean faculty of education S.V University AP, Prof. P.A. Reddy in his keynote address maintained that in order to sustain growth and development, quality education was a must and which placed great responsibility at the hands of teachers. He however added that the goal could only be achieved with trained teachers. (Cont’d on p-7)
India cannot afford corruption: PM Modi NEW DELHI, NOV 7 (AGENCIES): Asserting that a poor country like India cannot afford luxury of corruption, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said the State should be policy-driven and not based on whims of an individual. Addressing the valedictory function of vigilance awareness week organised by CVC, he emphasised on use of Aadhaar and other information technology-based applications to check corruption. “When we make rules and if there is any ambiguity in it which is open to people’s inference then it opens door for corruption. That is why State should be policy-driven...” he said. Modi said if the government emphasises on policy-driven State then there will be less scope for interpretation by an individual. In an advice to government departments, Modi said people must be involved while making draft laws for any governance- related matters. “While making laws if we use many minds then the law would be good. Secrecy does not matter in this,” he said.
Can’t impose yoga on anyone, says Supreme Court NSCN (K) warns 3 against
NEW DELHI, NOV 7 (PTI/IANS): The Supreme Court on Monday said that it cannot impose yoga on anyone or frame its curriculum as it declined to entertain a PIL seeking direction to make yoga a part (Cont’d on p-7) of school syllabus. A lawyer, who sought making the teaching of Yoga compulsor y in schools, fumbled when the Supreme Court put him to test on his knowledge about the ancient exercise. “Which is the last ‘aasana’ in Yoga,” asked a bench headed by Chief Justice T S Thakur. As the lawyer fumbled, the bench said, “it is ‘shavasana’. You espouse the cause of Yoga when you do not know this.” The bench asked him to withdraw his plea seeking framing of a ‘National Yoga Policy’ and making Yoga “Our politicians are more compulsory for students at home talking of political of Class I-VIII across the solution than economic country and directed him solution.” to intervene as a party in a

pending similar case. “You (lawyer) withdraw your petition here and file an intervention application in the pending case,” the bench, also comprising Justices D Y Chandrachud and L Nageswara Rao, said. But senior advocate M N Krisnamani, representing lawyer and Delhi BJP spokesperson Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay who has
filed the PIL, sought issuance of notice on the plea. Krishnamani said “the fact that I do not practice ‘Yoga’ should not come in the way of a right cause.” The bench then referred to the prevailing situation in Delhi and adjoining areas and, in lighter vein, said “does anyone do yoga in this polluted atmosphere”. At the outset of the
hearing, the bench expressed its unwillingness to entertain the PIL saying “we cannot impose Yoga on anyone. You go and persuade people to do it. We cannot be framing curriculum.” It is for the government and academicians to decide what should be included in the school curricula, the bench said. At the end of the brief hearing, it
however allowed Upadhyay to seek intervention in a similar plea pending before a bench headed by Justice MB Lokur, which would hear it on Nov 29. Upadhyay, in his plea, had sought a direction to the Ministry of Human Resources Development, NCERT, NCTE and the CBSE to “provide standard textbooks of ‘Yoga and Health Education’ for students of Class I-VIII keeping in spirit various fundamental rights such as right to life, education and equality. “‘Right to Health’ is an integral part of Right to Life under the Article 21. It includes protection, prevention and cure of the health and is a minimum requirement to enable a person to live with human dignity. State has a obligation to provide health facilities to all the citizens, especially to children and adolescents...,” the plea said.
