Dimapur/ IMPHAL, Oct 22: While an air of intense speculation hovers around Nagaland, on solution to the over 22 years of prolonged negotiations on the Naga political issue, in neighbouring Manipur, there is an air of uncertainty and tension over the fate of the state’s territory that led Manipur chief minister to hold an-all party meeting amidst protests. It may be recalled that government of India’s Interlocutor to the Naga peace talks and governor of Nagaland R.N. Ravi convened a meeting on

NJCF calls for statewide prayer, fasting DIMAPUR, OCT 22 (NPN): Nagaland Joint Christian Forum (NJCF) has called upon all the denominations in Nagaland to organize prayer vigil from October 27 (Sunday), which would culminate with a day of fasting and prayer on November 2, 2019 from 7am to 12 noon. In a press release, NJCF president Rev. Dr. Keyho has urged every denomination to encourage all the members to go to the church for prayer. The forum stated that fasting and prayer day would culminate with everyone coming out to a strategic-designated place in the town and in the village for a concluding prayer. Meanwhile, highlighting some of prayer points for Sunday (October 27, 2019), NJCF has urged all to pray for peaceful solution, pray for Naga leaders negotiating with the Government of India that God would give them Wisdom and understanding; pray that Naga leaders would be humble and forgiving and listen to the voice of God and the people; that Naga leaders would come together face to face and sort of the differences to salvage the situation; that

NEW DELHI, OCT 22 (AGENCIES): BJP and Congress are locked in a close tough fight in Haryana and the result could go either ways, shows the India Today-Axis My India exit poll for Haryana. The exit poll result for Haryana shows that the in the 90member Haryana assembly election, the BJP is likely to win 32-44 seats. In the last assembly election, the BJP won 47 seats while the half-way mark in Haryana assembly is 45. The Congress on the other hand is likely to win 30-42 seats in Haryana. In last election, Congress won just 15 seats in Haryana. This comes as a major surprise as most exit polls have predicted a comfortable victory for the BJP. If the results of the India Today-Axis My India exit poll for Haryana hold true on October 24, when the Election Commission will declare assembly election results, Haryana will prove to be a tough challenge for the BJP and Congress, seeing a neck-and-neck fight. (NPN): Leader of Opposition, TR Zelaing, has described as “most regrettable” the “negligence” behind scheduling the meeting of the Joint Legislators Forum (JLF) on Naga Political Issue. In a letter addressed to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) Speaker, the Leader of Opposition said that JLF members were informed of a proposed meeting on October 4, 2019 at Rhododendron Hall, Chumukedima, but was postponed and no further notice has been served till date. Former chief minister questioned if the proposed meeting was postponed at the request of the Governor of Nagaland, why has the speaker/deputy speaker not fixed another date till today? Reminding of the “pressing need” for the Naga political groups and the government of India to come to terms and sign the final agreement, Zeliang said that the elected Members, as facilitators of the peace process, should be at their best and facilitate in resolving the Naga issue without further delay.

DIMAPUR, OCT 22 (NPN): Though scheduled to have been completed in 2007, construction of a 340-metre Shozukhu- Zukihi RCC bridge over Dhansiri river in Dimapur district is nowhere near completion till today as about 80 metre of the bridge is yet to be constructed. According to residents of the area, the bridge was supposed to help residents of about 18 villages in Khaghaboto area and 38 villages in Aghunaqa area. They said the work for construction of the bridge was as-

signed to M/s PABSCON way back in 2005. However, the construction, which was supposed to be completed within 24 months, stopped midway for reasons best known to the contractor and PWD (R&B) department, they added. After waiting patiently for the parties concerned to resolve the dispute, Khughaboto Area GBs’ Association (KTKK) asked the parties on April 18, 2017 to resolve their differences within 15 days in the larger interest of thousands of people for whom the bridge would be the (Cont’d on p-7) lifeline.

DIMAPUR, OCT 22 (NPN): Public Action Committee (PAC) held a meeting with Dimapur Urban GBs, Dimapur Urban Colony Council Chairman Federation (DUCCF) and DCP Dimapur police in the Conference Hall, Tourist Lodge, Dimapur on October 21, 2019. In a press release, PAC convenor Vekhosayi Nyekha and press secretary Richard Haolai said the house mainly discussed on community policing that was enshrined in the government policy. DCP explained that every citizen had a responsibility in curbing all forms of illegal activities. It was stated that every member of a colony or village had the responsibility to act for the welfare of the people as the police cannot reach each and every nook and corner all the time. In case of any form of illegal collection of money and illegal activities, one could report the matter to the village/colony authority, who in turn should report to the police and not take the law into one’s own hand. At the meeting, the members appreciated the PAC for the steps taken to check illegal collections of money by the state and (Cont’d on p-7) non-state actors.

KOHIMA, OCT 22 (NPN): Despite the project to augment water supply to Kohima town by pumping water from the Zarü stream having begun in 2012, the project continues to face hurdles and is unlikely to be completed even in 2019. The mega water project was expected to provide more than 3 million litres of water per day to the State Capital. The sanctioned cost of the project was Rs 4,673.09 lakh and expenditure up to February 2017 was Rs 3,037.41 lakh according to public health engineering department (PHED) officials. The scheme was being taken up on 90:10 funding pattern under the Union urban development ministry and was scheduled for completion in 2014-15, but was re-scheduled to 2015-16 taking into account the delay in release of funds. After inspection in

File photo of the water reservoir at the project site.

2017, the PHED confirmed that the project was likely to be completed by May, but that did not materialise. In the current year, the department was yet to carry out a study. The project involves pumping of water from Zarü stream to a reservoir at Kigwema village through two stages of pumping. From this reservoir, water is proposed to be supplied to residents of the State capital by using the force of gravity. Talking to Nagaland Post, one PHED official said the first stage pumping testing was done many times

NBCC holds prayer meet with NSCN (I-M) leadership NSCN (I-M) flays GoI for

DIMAPUR, OCT 22 (NPN): A 25-member Nagaland Baptist Churches Council (NBCC) delegation led by its president Rev Dr Hukashe Zhimomi and general secretary Rev Dr Zel(Cont’d on p-7) hou Keyho called on NSCN (I-M) chairman Q Tuccu and held a prayer meeting with IM leaders at Tuccu’s residence on Monday. According to a statement issued by the council later, the delegation conveyed to the NSCN (I-M) chairman that the need of the hour was unity among all factions so that the final accord was signed to avoid bloodshed and confrontation. The statement further clarified that NBCC’s main purpose of meeting the NSCN (I-M) leaders was “I told you many times. to let them know that the There is a contradiction church was praying for between government them, for wisdom, for uneconomics and us.” derstanding and for guid-

behalf of the government of India with NSCN(I-M) leaders Isak Chishi Swu and Th.Muivah in presence of home minister Rajnath Singh, COAS Ge,Dalbi Singh Suhag and other NSCN(I-M) leaders. Another agreement was signed with the Working Committee of seven Naga National Political Groups(NNPGs) on November 17,2017 on the political parameters of settlement. In subsequent interviews to Nagaland Post, Ravi had said all issues were covered and agreed to in principle excepting “symbolic issues” such as Naga flag and con-

stitution. In the October 18 meeting, Ravi had also made known various demands for solution that included an inclusive a Pan-Naga Hoho for all Nagas in the north east dealing with cultural, social and traditional matters; regional autonomous state councils for Nagas of Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh with independent funding and decision making and a minor council for Nagas of Assam. While WC of NNPGs have said they are ready to conclude talks and would take all Nagas on board, NSCN(I-M) has insisted upon Naga flag and constitution. In the October 18 meeting, Ravi had made it clear that there will be no more talks after signing of agreement for solution. MANIPUR: In neighbouring Manipur, chief minister N Biren Singh on Tuesday convened a meeting of all political party against the backdrop of Centre’s decision to conclude the peace process with Naga groups.

ance. And that in any given situation, the church would continue to stand above the solution and pray that unity and mutual understanding prevailed among the leaders in particular and the Nagas in general, the statement added. Explaining that the council had set out on a mission to pray for Naga political leaders and organisations for unity and reconciliation, which would also give a positive boost to the pursuit of signing of the

final accord, NBCC general secretary told the NSCN (I-M) leaders that Naga public was weary and anxious with so much speculations going around. He added that it was the leaders who, in the name of God, could dispel all such thoughts from the hearts of the people and lead them in the right direction. Noting that perhaps the Naga people were experiencing the silence of God because God wanted them

to be strong in prayers and go according to His will, Keyho said the church had not given up its prayer for peace, understanding, unity, reconciliation and forgiveness among Naga people for it was only through God that Naga people would get deliverance. He remarked that as followers of Christ, Naga people must follow the teachings of the Bible. Else, it would be like tearing away pages of the Bible, if Naga people had to give up repentance, forgiveness, reconciliation and unity, he added. Tuccu regretted that civil societies had not done enough to bring unity among the factions and remained a divided house, even as he assured that he would go as per the voice of the people as the struggle was a people’s movement.

ignoring Naga sentiments

DIMAPUR, OCT 22 (NPN): NSCN (I-M) has accused government of India of machination by trying to hoodwink Nagas into submission” under the pretext of “compromising with contemporary reality” but reiterated that “in the name of going along with contemporary reality, the political decency and Naga sentiments cannot be simply discarded into the dust bin of flattery.” MIP said the “agreed principle of honourable and acceptable solution cannot be sidelined into oblivion” but that “unfortunately, government of India’s insincere approach has brought down the IndoNaga political talks to this level”. MIP also said that by “going further to push the Machiavellian handling of the Naga political issue” the (Cont’d on p-7) government of India machi-

nated the use of primary stakeholders by “adopting ‘yes men’ groups and ignoring the others.” MIP said the “ so-called primary stakeholders” was not only a misnomer in the absence of “majority Naga tribal groups” but also “ against the Nagas democratic practice.”It said this was only sowing “ the seed of division in the name of pushing Naga solution without getting the mandated blessing.” MIP also said it was strange how the government of India, represented by its Interlocutor Ravi handled the “Naga political issue by blaming the NSCN negotiators for practising procrastinate negotiation.” MIP reiterated that the reason why Nagas “are sentimentally attached with flag and constitution” was the same with the Naga covenant with God.

but that they were yet to test from the intermediate level to the top point because of electrical problems. He added that the department had to order variable frequency drive (VFD), a type of motor controller that drives an electric motor by varying the frequency and voltage of its power supply. “Even if there is 10% fluctuation in the electric current supply for such big motor, it will affect the machine,” he explained, adding that to regulate the fluctuation of electric current the department had ordered (Cont’d on p-7) VFD.
