WikiLeaks bombshell hits Hillary
N E W YO R K , O C T 8 (AGENCIES): Wikileaks has released thousands of emails from Hillary Clinton’s campaign manager, John Podesta, that reveal some devastating policy positions that she privately holds but publicly denies. Some of the emails quote her speeches to Wall Street bankers, where she candidly admitted she supports open borders and free trade. While it hasn’t been a great day for Donald Trump, it hasn’t been that great for Hillary Clinton either. Donald has tried a lot of things to distance himself from the controversy he has found himself in today only to finally have to bite the bullet and make a full, and read from a teleprompter, apology which is something that he hasn’t done for any of his other controversies. While it’s hard to know whether or not the leaked materials are 100 percent real it is known that Hillary and her party have named Russia as the people responsible for the hacks. In a statement released from her, campaign Hillary says that the Russians are trying to “sabotage” the election. Hillary tweeted with the statement, “It should concern every American that Russia is willing to engage in such hostile acts in order to help Donald Trump become president.” Combined with Donald’s allegations that what he talked about was sexual abuse he nev-

er actually did it and that Hillary’s husband, Bill Clinton did sexual abuse women. Donald also claims that Hillary bullied and abused the same women into not taking legal matters against her husband. In lucrative paid speeches that Hillary Clinton delivered to elite financial firms but refused to disclose to the public, she displayed an easy comfort with titans of business, embraced unfettered international trade and praised a budgetbalancing plan that would have required cuts to Social Security, according to documents posted online Friday by WikiLeaks. The tone and language of the excerpts clash with the fiery liberal approach she used later in her bitter primary battle with Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont and could have undermined her candidacy had it become public. Clinton comes across less as a firebrand than as a technocrat at home with her powerful audience, willing to be critical
of large financial institutions but more inclined to view them as partners in restoring the country’s economic health. In the excerpts from her paid speeches to financial institutions and corporate audiences, Mrs. Clinton said she dreamed of ‘’open trade and open borders’’ throughout the Western Hemisphere. Citing the back-room deal-making and arm-twisting used by Abraham Lincoln, she mused on the necessity of having ‘’both a public and a private position’’ on politically contentious issues. Reflecting in 2014 on the rage against political and economic elites that swept the country after the 2008 financial crash, Mrs. Clinton acknowledged that her family’s rising wealth had made her ‘’kind of far removed’’ from the struggles of the middle class. The passages were contained in an internal review of Mrs. Clinton’s paid speeches undertaken by her campaign, which was identifying po-
tential land mines should the speeches become public. They offer a glimpse at one of the most sought-after troves of information in the 2016 presidential race—and an explanation, perhaps, for why Mrs. Clinton has steadfastly refused demands by Mr. Sanders and Donald J. Trump, her Republican rival, to release them. It can’t be a coincidence that these emails were leaked just a few hours after the Trump gaffe became public. Someone, somewhere may be trying to offset Trump’s lewd comments with some headline-grabbing quotes from Clinton. This can be interpreted two ways: either someone is trying to help Trump or Wikileaks released the emails when it could do the least amount of damage to Clinton’s campaign. Or, since many suspect that Wikileaks is a creature of the Russian government, it could just be more chaos being thrown into the campaign. In this scenario, it doesn’t matter who wins; both candidates will be severely weakened internationally. Clinton’s positions on the issues reveal her to be a globalist and an open borders fanatic. If Trump can ever get his lewd comments behind him, he has a lot of material he can use to savage Clinton and perhaps even sink her candidacy. WikiLeaks has already published 30,322 emails from Clinton’s private email server, spanning from June 30, 2010
to August 12, 2014. While Assange didn’t specify what exactly was in the emails, he did tell ITV that WikiLeaks had “accumulated a lot of material about Hillary Clinton, which could proceed to an indictment.” Assange hinted that the emails slated for publication contain additional information about the Clinton Foundation. He also reminded ITV’s Robert Peston that previously released emails contained one damning piece of communication from Clinton, instructing a staffer to remove the classification settings from an official State Department communication and send it through a “nonsecure” channel. Assange then pointed out that the Obama administration has previously prosecuted numerous whistleblowers for violating the government’s procedures for handling classified documents. The leak comes after the US accused Russia of a cyber attack against political organisations intended to influence the presidential election. Supporters of Donald Trump had been hopeful that Wikileaks would release an “October Surprise” this week to put an end to Mrs Clinton’s presidential hopes. Campaign staff are believed to have been sent Mrs Clinton’s speeches to identify passages that could be potentially problematic if they became public, AP news agency reports.

Each tribe is a pillar for our society: Rio Staff Reporter
DIMAPUR, OCT 8 (NPN): Lok Sabha MP, Neiphiu Rio said every Naga tribe was a pillar for “our” society and if any of the pillar should malfunction then the whole building would collapse, likewise when a particular tribe does not progress then that would directly affect the rest of the people. He was speaking as the chief guest during the Silver Jubilee celebrations of Yimchungrü Students Union Dimapur at Yimchungrü Baptist Church Dimapur, Kuda ‘C’ Khel (Half Nagarjan), Dimapur. He lauded the students’ body for making visible progress despite having faced many hurdles over the years, especially due to geographical reasons. Rio however said the union has proved themselves by achieving a milestone, celebrating its silver jubilee. He said, “It is appropriate to celebrate such occasions to re-introspect and to build up new visions, new challenges and make plans towards progress and be a responsible person and citizens and not become a liability for the family or the society.” While stressing on the need for the students to have a firm foundation especially in the primary and elementary stages, Rio said those stages guaranteed the educational quality of a person for the rest of their lives. He added that the Right to Education Act passed by the Central government was to ensure that everyone should

be literate enough and not be deaf and blind people due to lack of education. Recalling the past, how Nagas came into contact with education and people from other civilizations especially through the first and second world wars, Rio said those times had brought problems but more importantly education and civility. Although Nagas were head hunters in the past, he said those times were over now and urged Nagas to “know when to fight; when to divide and when to have peace or when to unite”. He said, “if Nagas continue to keep on fighting like in the olden times then the image of the Nagas will be lost and people from elsewhere will be scared of us, that we are quarrelsome and do not know how to maintain peace among ourselves then we would be left out alone”. In this regard, Rio called upon every individual to rise above individualism and develop a sense of patriotism amongst the people, saying “we should rise to the Naga-
ism level.” Rio said with the advancement of civilization, education and other progressive amenities, it was time for Nagas to seriously think on how to live in harmony with the neighbours and also with the outside world. Earlier on the occasion, Rio released the Silver Jubilee Souvenir. Also speaking as the guest of honour ENPO advisor & Negotiating Team member, Toshi Wungtung urged the students of the present generation to strictly follow the habit of reading and writing, which he said were the “alpha and omega” of a successful life. He said education was the foundation for enlightenment and the only path to attain that was through reading and writing. Lamenting that the present generation was dependent on electronic gadgets like computers, laptops, tablets, mobile phones, etc. Wungtung said although these gadgets were helpful, being too dependent on them make a person’s knowledge too robotic, mechanised and monotonous which in the end blocks the path for an open mind. Wungtung encouraged the students saying, “You should be in control of your mind and in return your mind should be in control of what you produce.” Earlier short speeches were delivered by Yimchungrü Gazetted Officers Association president Dr. Punsokiu and YAA president Solumba.

WASHINGTON, OCT 8 (AGENCIES): With India raising the issue of human rights violations in Balochistan at the UN, and openly coming out in support of the Baloch people, Pakistan’s special envoy on Kashmir, Mushahid Husain Syed has warned that if India continued to do so, Pakistan would respond by “talking of Khalistan, Nagaland, Tripura, Assam, Sikkim or the Maoist insurgency. “We do not want to do that because that is interference in the internal affairs of a neighboring country. You are changing the rules of the game. It becomes tit for tat,” he said. Pakistan’s establishment anchors and analysts talk frequently about India’s 17 or 27 or 32 insurgencies, and how Pakistan can exploit it if India does not resolve the Kashmir issues. Although Syed said Pakistan is willing to “do anything” India asks for confidence building measure in order to resume
KOHIMA/NEW DELHI, OCT 8 (AGENCIES): An Indian soldier, who attained martyrdom in Nagaland in 1992 and laid to rest at Chakabama in Nagaland, will be exhumed on October 10 and his mortal remains taken to his native place in Kerala, UNI reports stated. According to a statement by Defence spokesperson Col. C. Konwer, the second lieutenant E T Joseph attained martyrdom in an ambush on June 12, 1992, while moving from Chakabama to Jessami as part of a convoy. However, due to situational constraints in those days he was laid to rest at Chakabama in Nagaland. His father, a Subedar Major in Army, A.T. Joseph, who was then posted at Shillong, was the only member from the family, who could attend the funeral. Twenty-four years have elapsed since then; neither Second Lieutenant Joseph’s mother nor his two sisters were able to visit his grave. Tomorrow, on October 9, Second Lieutenant E T Joseph’s father, mother and both his sisters would be reach-
negotiations, he had no cogent answer about why Pakistan has not acted against proscribed terror groups other than “give us more evidence.” After threatening to decamp to a purported “ChinaRussia-Iran” axis if the US did not intervene in the Kashmir issue, two Pakistani special envoys on Thursday made peace in Afghanistan hostage to resolution of the Kashmir issue, implicitly warning that Pakistan can undermine US and Indian efforts to stabilize Afghanistan, a country that by many accounts has been ravaged by Pakistani depredations. “The road to peace in Kabul lies in Kashmir in the sense that when you talk of peace, you cannot compartmentalise peace, you can’t segregate a section... ok you can have peace in Kabul and let Kashmir burn. That is not going to happen,” Pakistan PM’s special envoy on Kashmir Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed told a gathering
at the Stimson Center. Syed’s colleague Shezra Mansab also brought in the nuclear dimension, arguing that “Our core issue this time is Kashmir and no peace can prevail in the region, if this issue is not solved,” and since India and Pakistan are “nuclear neighbors... we need to have peace on the issue of Kashmir.” The Pakistani effort to inveigle the US into the matter with threats and blackmail has found little success so far in Washington DC, and if anything, it has further accentuated Islamabad’s crude tactics. “Why, when it is so hard for the US to get involved in more helpful way in Syria... why should the US listen to the argument for more involvement in Kashmir?” asked Stimson Center’s Co-founder and longtime South Asia expert Michael Krepon, adding that the situation in Kashmir is much better than many other conflict prone areas of the world.
NEW DELHI, OCT 8 (AGENCIES): Amidst the debate over triple talaq in the country, the Law Commission released a questionnaire on Saturday wherein citizens have been invited to give their opinion on the uniform civil code. The questions cover a broad range of subjects such as marriage, divorce, adoption, inheritance among others. The Law Commission has undertaken this exercise in order to revise and reform family laws under Article 44 of Indian Constitution, which reads as follows - ‘the state shall endeavour to provide for its citizens a uniform civil code throughout the territory of India.’ The aim of the survey is to “address discrimination against vulnerable groups and harmonise various cultural pratices”. The time frame to collect the responses has been fixed to 45 days, and respondents can present their views by post to Law Commission of India, 14th Floor, HT House,

ing Nagaland. Eventually, the family wishes to relocate the mortal remains from Chakabama to Kottayam in Kerala for the final closure. The ceremony to exhume the mortal remains would be carried out on October 10 at Chakabama. Thereafter, the family would depart on October 12 from Nagaland, Col Konwer informed. According to The Better India report, in June 1992 in Nagaland, second lieutenant E.T. Joseph had finished packing for his trip home to Kottayam in Kerala and was now
enjoying a laid back last evening with other officers in the Mess. Commissioned in June 1991 in the Corps of Military Intelligence, this officer had just finished his year-long attachment with the First Battalion of Fifth Gorkha Rifles (1/5 GR). Suddenly, reports of some movement from insurgents in the area began to come in. The unit sprang into action as it was tasked to go into the field and neutralise the militants. The Commanding Officer got his Quick Reaction Team together. No one suggested that Joseph
go along because the young officer had already got his posting orders and had been dined out from the Unit the previous day. But, since he knew the terrain well, he volunteered to go with the team for the operation at night so he could be back early next morning to catch the first convoy out. The other officers tried to dissuade him, telling him to relax and stay behind. But he insisted on going. Alas, E.T. Joseph never returned to take that convoy or catch the train home to Kottayam.
DIMAPUR, OCT 8 (NPN): Based on a complaint, Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) has charged a butcher shop in Kohima of cheating a customer who had gone to buy pork. In a statement, press & media cell, NVCO, stated that a prominent businessman from Jotsoma village bought pork for Rs.400 at a shop situated opposite to Bethel Medical Centre, upper PWD, Kohima on October 8, 2016. NVCO said initially the victim bought 2kg pork costing Rs.360 (Rs.180/kg as per KMC rate), but the butchers requested him to buy for a sum of Rs. 400, citing lack of Rs.40 change. The victim agreed and took it home. However, when the pork was weighed in a proper scale at home he found out that there was shortage of 1/2 kilo pork. The victim brought back the meat to the butchers and complained about the shortage of 1/2kg. The butchers admitted shortage of 500 grams and apologized for their illegal con-
duct, NVCO stated. NVCO said the victim personally reported the matter to organisation with a request to publish for public consumption and awareness. Vehemently condemning the incident, NVCO has strongly warned the butchers not to cheat the consumers. Meanwhile, NVCO has asked Kohima Municipal Council to check all the butcher shops and find out whether they were running shops with KMC trade licence. It also asked when would KMC make use of electronic weighing machine mandatory in Kohima? Further, NVCO has asked department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection (LMCP) to conduct surprise checking. It lauded the victim for his bold effort in checking the illegal practices by the butchers in Kohima town. As the incident could not be taken to KMC or LMCP due to public holiday, NVCO warned that if similar cases crops up in the future, the matter would be taken to Police.

He said the low confidence level was due to lack of a positive competitive spirit, which was a very important medium of education beyond the curriculum. Students who have self belief in their proven abilities exude confidence which also help improve their performance, he said. Yaden also expressed his view that education today is focussed to the outside and thus, contemporary institutions adopt learning beyond classrooms. He encouraged institutions to organise competitions and keep students involved and occupied so that they do not get attracted to other unwanted pastimes. Concluding his exhortation, Yaden reminded students that their parents fervently hope that they will be achievers. Towards this, he encouraged them to “always give their best shot” and never to allow disappointments spoil their dreams. Speaking on the occasion, Lipokmar said time had changed, but languages would never change, whereby the root and heritage were bonded in the language. He mentioned that lan-
guage was rooted to all activities and cited that historical reconstruction had been preserved by “our” forefathers through songs and folktales. struction cannot effort to have any gaps, said Tzüdir. In the situation, Tzüdir said that language ties all traditions and one’s identity. IMPHAL, Oct 8: The Congress in Manipur is likely gain two sitting legislators even as the ruling had lost one of its senior member and sitting MLA. A highly reliable source in the state Congress said that feelers have been sent to two opposition sitting MLAs, NCP’s Laishom Ibomcha and Karam Shyam of Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) to convince them to join the ruling party. The ruling party in Manipur had gained four sitting MLAs from Trinamool Congress no sooner had its sitting MLA Y Erabot left the party after tendering resignation from MLA-ship on September 12 this year. Even as the ruling party able to bring four MLAs from opposition within the party fold, sitting MLA and vice president of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) N Biren quitted the party on October 6 last. This resignation from the MLA-ship has been accepted by the Speaker of the Manipur Assembly on the next day.
The party took Biren’s leaving the party seriously and to recoup the loss, party is reportedly intensified its campaign for bringing prominent politicians in the party fold. As part of its intensified campaign, the party had sent its feelers to meet with MLA Ibomcha, who is the president of NCP Manipur Pradesh and MLA Shyam, currently national general secretary of LJP. The feelers were sent through state chief minister and the duo had intimated the chief minister that they would consult their respective political workers/supporters before taking a final decision on whether or not to join the Congress party. In the meantime, MLA Karam Shyam, who is representing Langthabal A/C of Imphal West district have reportedly started discussion with his workers and supporters. So far the MLA failed to get active support from his workers and his workers’ objection is said to have left Shyam in a quandary to decide his political future. For the MLA Ibomcha
who represents Keishamthong A/C of Imphal West has reportedly received no objection from his workers but Congress workers of the constituency is reportedly objecting bringing the sitting MLA within the party fold. Congress councillors of Imphal Municipal Corporation, including the mayor, called on the MPCC president TN Haokip on Friday and told the state Congress chief not to allow entry of NCP legislator to the Congress. The councillors including the incumbent mayor reportedly threatened the party chief that they would leave the party and shift loyalty to other political entity, in case Ibomcha joins INC. The MPCC chief was reminded that if they part ways from the Congress such a move will eventually be helpful to the BJP in taking over the corporation,, adding that trio’s insistence has put Congress leaders in a fix. Regardless of uncertain situation prevalent in the Congress organisation, the ruling party is planning to bring in no less than two MLAs from other political outfits.

Defamation complaint against Rahul Gandhi
Cauvery issue: TN BJP to call on Amit Shah; opposition stir on
Chandauli, Oct 8 (PTI): A complaint of defamation was today lodged in a court here against Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi for his ‘dalali’ remark targetting Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the surgical strikes. Local lawyer Sadanand Singh moved the application under IPC Section 500 (Punishment for defamation) in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate which fixed the hearing for October 25. The complainant alleged that the ‘dalali’ remark made by Gandhi against the Prime Minister has extremely hurt him as well as the countrymen. Singh also alleged that at a time when soldiers are sacrificing their lives in honour of the country, such leaders are indulging in cheap politics by making these controversial remarks. In his complaint, Singh termed Gandhi’s remark as unfortunate which has been made to “harm the popularity” of Modi.
Chennai, Oct 8 (PTI): Facing flak in Tamil Nadu for the Centre’s stand against setting up Cauvery Management Board, BJP’s state unit Saturday said it would call on party chief Amit Shah tomorrow on the issue, even as Opposition parties continued to hold protests against the union government. “We will meet our party chief Amit Shah tomorrow on the Cauvery issue and apprise him of Tamil Nadu unit’s views on the CMB,” BJP state president Tamilisai Soundararajan said. Soundararajan said she would lead a delegation of state party leaders, including Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan and Rajya Sabha MP elect L Ganesan to meet Shah. Explaining the procedural aspects of setting up the Board, which includes getting Parliament’s approval, she claimed that “BJP has always been protecting the interests of farmers of Tamil Nadu and will continue to do so.” Stating that the state unit was all for setting up the CMB,
she said all steps would be taken to get it done. Meanwhile, Opposition parties in Tamil Nadu continued to stage protests against the Centre on the Cauvery issue. PMK and Tamil Manila Congress (Moopanar) held agitations here and in Ariyalur today, seeking constitution of CMB to protect the farmers’ interests. Slamming the BJP-led Centre for its “betrayal of Tamil Nadu” by not coming forward to set up the Board, PMK chief S Ramadoss said his party would continue to protest peacefully against the Union government on the river water issue. “We see the BJP-led Centre as a party which has committed a big betrayal against Tamil Nadu on Cauvery issue. It is an unpardonable betrayal,” he told protesters. He alleged that the Centre had taken a stand against setting up the Cauvery Management Board with an eye on the Karnataka Assembly election, which is due in 2018. “This is injustice against
the people of Tamil Nadu,” the PMK chief said, adding his party would continue to fight against the Centre on the Cauvery issue through peaceful means. Ramadoss said his party’s executive committee will decide on the mode of protest against the Centre. It may include protests like waving black flags during visits of Union Ministers and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Tamil Nadu. The protest demonstration was to urge the Centre to immediately set up the CMB. Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) party chief G K Vasan led a protest demonstration at Ariyalur. Blaming the central government, he said it had “tilted from its neutral position” and sided with Karnataka by opposing the CMB. Stating that the plea to set up the CMB was a long time demand of farmers to ensure adequate inflow of Cauvery waters, he said the Centre’s stand “is against Tamil Nadu and its farmers and is a betrayal.”
Our decisions being rendered No party can use public funds null and void: Arvind Kejriwal for propagation of its symbol: EC New Delhi, Oct 8 (IANS): Slamming Delhi Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday said all the decisions taken by the Delhi government in the last one and a half years are being rendered “null and void”, leading to chaos. “This will have serious ramifications for the city and it will send Delhi back by almost two years. But unfortunately, that is exactly what is happening in Delhi,” he said while addressing a press conference here at his residence. Kejriwal’s remarks come a day after the LG declared Mehboob Alam’s appointment as Delhi Waqf Board CEO illegal and dissolved the religious body on Friday. Jung has also asked the
Arvind Kejriwal Delhi government to withdraw its last year’s notification of increasing circle rates of agricultural land in Delhi. Kejriwal said if there is corruption involved in all those decisions, then the Lt. Governor can get them investigated, but they should not be made null and void just because his
consent was not taken. “We have made many flyovers, now will they be demolished? We constructed 8,000 classrooms. Will they have to be demolished as well,” he asked. Kejriwal said before the August 4 High Court order, the government took various decisions “legitimately” believing that LG’s consent was not needed for some issues. The Delhi High Court on August 4 had held that the LG had primacy over the Delhi administration. “However, LG believed that his consent was needed. Our intention was not wrong while taking those decisions. The court case was going on and now there’s the interpretation that his approval is needed,” Kejriwal said.
N E W D E LHI , O CT 8 (AGENCIES): Election Commission (EC) has directed that no political party would be allowed to use public funds and government machinery to carry out activities that amount to advertisement for it, a move which comes amid allegations that Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) put up statues of elephants, its election symbol, in public places when it was in power in Uttar Pradesh. The Election Commission issued the orders following a judgement of the Delhi High Court which had in July remanded back to the poll panel a plea seeking cancellation of BSP’s Party symbol ‘elephant’ for alleged misuse of public funds by the erstwhile Mayawati government in installing its statues across the state.
“... The Commission has directed that no political party shall henceforth either use or allow the use of any public funds or public place or government machinery for carrying out any activity that would amount to advertisement for the party or propagating the election symbol allotted to the party. “It is clarified that any violation of the... directions would be treated as violation of a lawful direction of the Commission,” the EC said. The order of the Delhi High Court had come on the plea of an NGO which had claimed that putting up elephant statues in public places “disturbs the level-playing field” in an electoral contest as it stands on the same footing like the display of a photograph inside an office.

here is no doubt that Nagaland is in dire need of an all weather, motorable and smooth road linking the state capital with other parts of India ; even as other states in the north east today have constructed beautiful, high quality and wide roads besides smooth road networks linking every district. The National Highway 29 constructed during the Second World War by the British, which links Kohima with Imphal and Dimapur has been serving the purpose beyond expectations. It is very unfortunate that this highway which is a major link, is not what it should have been.It may be recalled, that the ministry of surface transport during 2000, had okayed proposal to turn the double-lane NH 29(erstwhile NH 39) to a four-lane highway, especially along the Dimapur-Chumukedima stretch. Following the decision of the surface transport ministry, the state government had issued notifications reaffirming the National Highway Act 1988 wherein 75 feet from the centre of the road on either side, was deemed to be the road reservation area. This was to facilitate construction of the four-lane highway. Far from it the road has instead become narrower due to rampant encroachments. The most befitting lamentation came from Atal Behari Vajpayee the then prime minister during his road travel from Dimapur to Kohima on October 27 for a two-day visit in 2003. When asked how he found the travel, Vajpayee remarked that if the NH 39 was Nagaland’s best roads; then he could well imagine the condition of its other roads. As a measure of his concern, Vajpayee announced around Rs.400 crore for converting the highway to four-lane from Dimapur to Chumukedima. The proposal was greeted with much glee and raised hopes that, finally, Nagaland would be among the few states then, to have a four-lane expressway. A decade later, the particular stretch of the road from Purana Bazar to Chumukedima, has instead, become narrower. The widening the NH 29 into a four-lane highway has at long last become a reality after the project was approved by Nitin Gadkari union minister of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and shipping. The four-lane road from Dimapur-Kohima Road ( from Km 123.840 to Km 138.775, Km 138.775 to Km 152.490 and Km 152.490 to Km 166.700) covering a total length of 42.48 Kms was approved at a cumulative cost of Rs 1199.11 cr. The work has been reportedly cornered by M/s Gayatri-Maytas JV, the same firm that had abandoned the four road projects in Nagaland under Special Accelerated Development Road Project for North East(SARDPNE). The four roads- Chakhabama-Zunheboto (118 km), Pfutsero-Phek (74 km), Mon-Tamlu-Merangkong (105 km) and Changtongya-Longleng (32 km) – were to be expanded to two-lane and clubbed and awarded to a single Joint Venture. However the project was abandoned after very little progress as the firm had asked for hike in estimates from Rs.1296 crore to 2988 crore. The Nagaland Contractors and Suppliers Union(NCSU) had objected Gayatri-Maytas being given the work by insisting that it must first complete the abandoned SARDP roads before taking up the four-lane project. It was strange, that the commissioner and secretary PWD National Highway went to the defence of G-M when so much has been exposed about the controversial projected hike in the DPR. The firm should answer to the state on behalf of the people, instead of the state acting like a defence counsel for the firm.
DailyDevotion Coming to Jesus Come to Me… —Matthew 11:28 Isn’t it humiliating to be told that we must come to Jesus! Think of the things about which we will not come to Jesus Christ. If you want to know how real you are, test yourself by these words— “Come to Me….” In every dimension in which you are not real, you will argue or evade the issue altogether rather than come; you will go through sorrow rather than come; and you will do anything rather than come the last lap of the race of seemingly unspeakable foolishness and say, “Just as I am, I come.” As long as you have even the least bit of spiritual disrespect, it will always reveal itself in the fact that you are expecting God to tell you to do something very big, and yet all He is telling you to do is to “Come….” “Come to Me….” When you hear those words, you will know that something must happen in you before you can come. The Holy Spirit will show you what you have to do, and it will involve anything that will uproot whatever is preventing you from getting through to Jesus. And you will never get any further until you are willing to do that very thing. The Holy Spirit will search out that one immovable stronghold within you, but He cannot budge it unless you are willing to let Him do so. How often have you come to God with your requests and gone away thinking, “I’ve really received what I wanted this time!” And yet you go away with nothing, while all the time God has stood with His hands outstretched not only to take you but also for you to take Him. Just think of the invincible, unconquerable, and untiring patience of Jesus, who lovingly says, “Come to Me….”

Post-mortem Haiti’s new catastrophe HbA1c in diabetes management H D
iabetes mellitus(DM) is a group of metabolic disease in which there are high blood sugar levels over a prolonged period. Symptoms of Diabetes include frequent urination, increased thirst and increased hunger. If left untreated, Diabetes can cause many complications. Acute complications can include Diabetes ketoacidosis, nonketotic hyperosmolar coma or even death. Serious chronic complications include heart disease, stroke, chronic kidney failure, Diabetic foot ulcers and damage of the eyes. There are three main types of Diabetes mellitus:1. Type 1 DM – Results from the pancreas failure to produce insulin. Earlier it was known as insulin-dependent DM (IDDM) or juvenile diabetes. The cause is unknown. 2. Type 2 DM – A condition in which cells fails to response to insulin properly. This type is also known as non-insulin dependent DM (NIDDM) or adult onset DM. The primary cause is excessive body weight and not enough exercise. 3. Gestational diabetes – occurs in pregnant women with no previous history of Diabetes develops high blood sugar. This type becomes normal after delivery. PREVENTION AND TREATMENT Maintaining a healthy diet, regular physical exercise, a normal body weight and avoiding use of tobacco. huuuud....... dhuuuuuud....... dhuuuuuud..... Zoom passed the Royal Enfield, leaving me stunned with the sound and shocked to see a young boy in school uniform riding the heavy 350cc bike without helmet. He is really a lucky boy to have parents who have gifted him such a manly thing to ride........... Memories flashed in my mind about my past and I just smiled ----The days when I walked along with my friends or sometimes were cycling to school. The day when I asked my father his Bajaj Super Scooter for first time to go to college. The days when I have to cut my pocket money for petrol. The days when my father warned me not to ride without driving license............. until I got it and showed to him as proof. Those were the days and gone now......memories still linger. These days I see lots of talented and skilled young boys and girls riding two wheelers in their matching school and college uniforms. They zoom pass under various traffic points of the town with earphones plugged in the ears.......!

sugar monitoring along with HbA1c levels (Glycosylated hemoglobin) are important. What is HbA1c or glycosylated hemoglobin ? HbA1c is a form of hemoglobin that is measured to identify the three months average plasma glucose concentration. The test is limited to a three months average because the life span of Red blood cells is about four months only. What is the normal level of HbA1c ? In healthy people HbA1c levels should be less than 6% of total hemoglobin. Normal range 4-6%. HbA1c level of 6.5% signals that Diabetes is present. HbA1c levels should be kept below 7%.Studies have demonstrated that the complications of Diabetes can be delayed or prevented if HbA1c levels are kept below 7%. It is recommended that treatment of Diabetes be directed at keeping the individual HbA1c levels as close to normal as possible (<6%) without episodes of hypoglycemia (Low blood sugar levels). When should HbA1c levels be tested? - Known Diabetic – Fasting blood sugar along with HbA1c levels should routinely measured every three months. - People with family history with elevated blood sugar. - If you are curious. How a person can lower HbA1c levels ? Following Diabetes management plan can help lower your HbA1c levels such as - Dietary modifications - Physical activity
Wow.....! They really have maneuvering skills even at the speed of 60km/h, just racing even between the small passages of the busy highway. The heavy Royal Enfield, the KTM bikes, and other classic and sporty bikes (even don’t know the names of the bikes....lol) which cost more than a second hand car are today’s new generations passion or can say style statement. But.....but....but! Is not the school going kids underage to ride or drive.....? Do the school going kids have license to ride or drive.....? Is it safe for them to be without helmets on for safety......? Are not the live of our children precious to us........? Is it not the duty of the school administration to check or guide the young children about the traffic regulations.....? We all do love our children but will it be correct to fulfill their demands for bikes, scooty and cars at such young and tender age. Let’s all think and answer ourselves............ Dharmadhaj Sonowal, Dimapur.
- Following proper medications of your Doctor - A combination of the above. A normal or only slightly elevated HbA1c levels is an indicator that your Diabetes is under control. If HbA1c levels remains increased following treatment your Doctor can change your medications. How is HbA1c levels measured ? HbA1c levels can be measured by many instruments in laboratories but recently a new machine called D-10 is found to accurately measure HbA1c levels.D-10 is a fully automated system from Bio-Rad Laboratories, USA that combines both Diabetes monitoring & abnormal hemoglobin testing on a single platform. The D-10 High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) system sets a new standard of performance for comprehensive hemoglobin testing. What this D-10 system can test ? 1. HbA1c or glycosylated hemoglobin for monitoring of Diabetes mellitus. 2. Hemoglobin variant analysis for testing Hemoglobinopathies or inherited abnormal hemoglobin disease such as thalassaemia, Hemoglobin E disease, sickle cell disease etc. In conclusion measurement of HbA1c in monitoring of Diabetes mellitus is of immense importance to avoid serious complications. meanwhile, need to answer the urgent appeal for relief aid, and then deliver on their promises. The United States government has another responsibility, beyond humanitarian relief: The Department of Homeland Security should immediately reinstitute temporary protected status for Haitians in the United States, and suspend efforts to deport unauthorized immigrants back to the disaster zone. People who are moved to help should temper generosity with caution, and consult guides to effective, reputable charities. Hard experience shows how donations go astray: The Red Cross raised $500 million in appeals after the Haiti earthquake, but reporters for NPR and ProPublica, in an exhaustiveinvestigation, searched in vain for where all that money went. The looming damage from the storm takes on an extra dimension in Florida, the epicenter of American political disasters. Gov. Rick Scott, a Republican, deserves credit for taking Matthew seriously — his calls to Floridians to flee the storm were strong, clear and utterly appropriate. But he has also sought political advantage in the wreckage. He has rebuffed sensible calls to extend voter-registration deadlines, which means thousands of evacuees will risk losing not just their homes, but also their voice in the presidential election. “Everybody has had a lot of time to register,” Mr. Scott told reporters, a dubious judgment that neatly benefits his role as the leader of a “super PAC” that supports Donald Trump. (Gov. Nikki Haley of South Carolina has extended deadlines in her state.) Maybe before the winds die down, Mr. Scott could come to his senses on Floridians’ right to vote. And when the skies clear, maybe his levelheaded response to the reality of Matthew’s deadly winds and rain could also lead him and his fellow Republicans to confront the reality and consequences of climate change, a subject he refuses to acknowledge, and the likelihood of even more powerful storms and rising seas. Whether he and his party admit it or not, something very real has been causing parts of his state to keep sinking and other parts, from time to time, to get blown away. The NY Times Editorial Board

he recent termination of employees by the department of Rural Development on the ground of absentees, double job and non-performing workers is a welcome sight. In a competitive and demanding world Gover nment need to do away with employees who still believe in the culture of “No work draw salary” or who does not have a drop of guilt to hold double job at one time. such unethical, inefficient, immoral, dishonest practices in Government sectors should be check and in this regard the drastic step taken by the RD department is a ray of hope that wheel of change for good has started. Hope other departments will also do a check and do the needful before the disease paralyze their department and subsequently our society. The need for termination of bogus government employees or on the ground of absentees or double job is not for the benefit of any particular tribe, district or political parties but such drastic step is needed for the greater good of people
Do commas still matter?
y favorite bumper sticker I’ve never seen: Commas matter. So I’ve always thought, and do still believe with the passion of one whose knuckles were rapped for grammatical errors. I mean this only metaphorically — no bloody fingers — but using incorrect grammar was the eighth deadly sin in my childhood home. How grateful I am that this was so. And now I have a confession: I’ve begun to forget the rules. What used to come naturally has become a test of recall. Does a comma go here? Should I use the Oxford comma? I don’t think this is singly attributable to the aging process (shut up) but rather to our increasing sloppiness in new ways of communicating. We may as well blame social media for this, too, especially Twitter. When you only have 140 characters to make a point, why waste one on a comma? Fortunately, I have editors to sweep up behind me and make sure all my commas are in order, though even they (and I, obviously) occasionally miss something, even (gasp!) recently a subject-verb disagreement. Of all things! Yes, that was a sentence fragment, deliberately incorrect in the service of KP style, as opposed to AP (Associated Press) style, which is the final word for most newspaper copy editors. In my personal stylebook, developed over almost 30 years of column writing, it’s fine to misuse grammar intentionally. But it’s not all right to misuse a word, such as “over,” where one should use “during.”
urricane Matthew battered Florida and points north on Friday, having already wreaked deadly havoc in the Bahamas, Jamaica, Cuba and Haiti. All those along its path need aid and protection and, when the wind and rain end, swift help in rebuilding. But Haiti needs it most. The southwestern part of the country, already isolated before being cut off by the storm, has been ravaged. In the city of Jérémie, about 80 percent of the buildings were flattened. The aerial photographs are heart-wrenching: What last week was an urban grid is now a smear of sticks, bricks and mud. The rough estimates of the nationwide death toll on Friday fluctuated — 200, 500, 800. All that seemed certain was that the number would rise. Natural catastrophes are tragically familiar in Haiti, which was devastated by an earthquake in 2010 — an acute emergency laid cruelly upon chronic poverty and underdevelopment. But equally familiar is the tragically misguided disaster response. Charity flows in all directions, many of them wrong. It is sent to organizations with shallow connections in the country, to be managed by and for the benefit of non-Haitians, soaked up in overhead or misspent on projects that languish and development that never comes. Much pledged aid never arrives. The pressing needs now, before the rebuilding, are clean water, food and health care. Among the most fearsome imminent dangers is the spread of cholera, the disease that the United Nations inflicted on Haiti, through the recklessness of its troops, then spent years shrugging off its responsibility for. With more than one million Haitians affected by the hurricane, theUnited Nations Population Fund has also been calling attention to the needs of pregnant women, more than 8,400 of whom are expected to give birth in the next three months. The man who is expected to take over as United Nations secretary general, António Guterres, will inherit a special obligation to develop and fully fund a plan to bring clean water and sanitation to Haiti, and to revive a languishing effort to eradicate, not just contain, cholera. The organization’s member nations,
If you’re lucky (and probably older), you learned these things in school, along with the multiplication tables. They’re imprinted on your brain so that the correct answer comes relatively quickly and accurately. Not so for younger generations, who’ve had the dubious benefit all their lives of spelling and grammar checkers, as well as handheld devices. It may not matter how one produces a sum or a sentence, but it’s my pleasure to worry about such things. The quick mental function that says 9 times 9 is 81 without benefit of a calculator, besides being strangely satisfying, provides periodic reassurance that the brain is sufficiently oxygenated. Whatever synapses are involved in that precise if rote calculation must besides do something good for the noggin. Calisthenics for the brain, perhaps? What, then, is failing to occur in minds that are deprived of these daily exercises? The correct answer is a Google away, but I’ll leave this to the dear readers while I return to the question of grammar. Does it matter, really? Yes, please. It matters because good grammar conveys a great deal about a person. Quality is in the details — and attention to commas, semicolons, dangling participles, gerunds and the proper placement of quotation marks says to the reader that this person is careful, considerate (because bad grammar is painful to the discerning eye), and (there’s that Oxford comma) competent. “Grammar is credibility,” says Amanda Sturgill, an associate professor
of Nagaland and India as a whole. Any institution whether private or government, employees salary is based on the working hours and according to the nature of their work and if an employee is not willing to fulfill those commitments, government has every right to terminate those employees as 21st century society requires efficient and dedicated employees to face and solves the complex challenges and demands of our society and such employees who still believe in “No work draw salary” or who still try to find ways to hang on to double job should have no place in the crucial government machinery as such people put their narrow interest first then the greater good of the society. Further jobs are becoming rare in Nagaland compared to the large number of efficient and dedicated educated youths, so why should the government be hesitated to terminate those people who does not want to come for work and why should someone be allowed to have two jobs when
of communications at Elon University, where I recently spoke. “If you’re not taking care of the small things, people assume you’re not taking care of the big things.” Sturgill, who devotes an entire day of class to the lowly comma, says that most students have a limited appreciation of the nuances of comma usage. Most have been taught that you insert a comma when you would naturally pause in speaking or where you would take a breath. As Sturgill makes clear in her 14 points of comma usage, there’s more to it — and not just grammatically. In April, journalist Mona Chalabi made a little splash in a video commentary for the Guardian when she averred that grammar snobs are patronizing, pretentious, censorious — and a bunch of other stuff. Oh, and also probably racist. This is because, wait for it, most people who correct others are older and white. She claimed that grammar-mongers effectively silence voices straining to be heard. It’s an interesting point, but do people really go around correcting strangers’ grammar? One could stay quite busy doing this. I suppose I’m one of those snobs even if sometimes I, too, err. But we do no favors to rising generations to pretend that it’s only the thought that counts. Better than finding excuses — or implying that good grammar is an attitude of old white folks — our efforts might be better directed at teaching the rules by which the real world abides. Kathleen Parker Opinion writer (The Washington Post)
people are struggling to get even one job. Such behaviour among public servant is unprofessional, unethical and morally wrong. Our Nation is working hard to become a global power but one thing that is hurting our ambitions is corruption especially in the government sectors and the recent step taken by the RD department should be appreciated, applauded , supported and encourage by all regardless of any “ism”. One of the good thing about the present NDA government is that there is a check on unnecessary freebies for the state governments which were earlier considered as guaranteed. Now most of the state governments has to earn it. such drastic measures is a necessary step as money is not grown in trees and every schemes are funded from tax payers money, thus it becomes necessary that there should be a check on unnecessary expenditure in the name of welfare of the poor people. The recent imitative by
the central government on black money saw a sum of more than ₹ 65000 crores being recovered according to the government data. Similarly such drastic step also need to be taken at the state level because it is not that we do not have money or resources to become one of the most developed state but it is because of the unnecessary burden which the government is carrying in the form of mass undeserving bogus extra government employees which are emptying the Nagaland treasury with such burden no matter how hard we try no state can developed. We have long been blaming the underground factions or the unresolved Naga political crisis for lack of development that we are witnessing in our society but more than that it is also the bogus and ghost government departments which should also need to be blamed for the continuous pathetic state of our society. NEW DELHI, OCT 8 (PTI): Gold continued to fall for the fourth straight day at the domestic bullion market and lost Rs 80 to trade at over threemonth low of Rs 30,240 per 10 grams owing to slackened demand from jewellers even as the metal rose overseas. Silver, however, staged a rebound by gaining Rs 370 to Rs 42,300 per kg on increased offtake by industrial units and coin makers. Marketmen said tepid demand from jewellers and retailers at domestic spot market at prevailing levels mainly kept pressure on gold prices but a firm trend overseas capped the losses. Globally, gold rose 0.19 per cent to USD 1,257.60 an

“What’s been going on in India is fantastic. Billions of dollars have been saved because of focus on bank accounts. India is a fantastic example of how we can spread benefits of unique identification,” Kim said. Earlier, the Finance Minister along with Shaktikanta Das, Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), Ministry of Finance, participated in the 2016 International Monetary Fund (IMF)-World Bank Annual Meetings Plenary, which was held here on Friday. On the sidelines of an-
the near-term rupee outlook is positive,” Madhavani said. “The key risks will be volatility that may emanate from upcoming FCNR B (Foreign Currency Non Resident (Bank)) payments and shifts in risk appetite.” According to Anindya Banerjee, Associate Vice President for Currency Derivatives with Kotak Securities, the Indian rupee can range between 66.40 and 66.80 to a US dollar in the very near-term. “Over the next week, US dollar is expected to trade within a range of 66.40-66.80 on spot,” Banerjee said. “Indian rupee is expected to benefit from the inflows in the local debt and stock market.” The provisional figures from the stock exchanges showed that the week ended October 7, witnessed an appreciable inflow of Rs 1,031.40 crore in foreign funds. Figures from the National Securities Depository (NSDL) disclosed that foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) were net buyers of equities worth Rs 1,444.87 crore, or $217.06 million from October 3-7.

nual meetings of the IMF and the World Bank, Jaitley also held bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Sri Lanka, China, and Iran. The discussions mainly focused on the areas of mutual co-operation and commonality of positions in various multilateral fora. Das participated in the World Bank Development Committee meeting, during the afternoon, wherein he spoke about the wide-ranging economic reforms undertaken in India which are transforming the business environment for Indian and global investments. He also met the president of the New Development Bank and the CEOs of the Luxembourg Stock Exchange and Scotia Bank. Jaitley is currently on official tour to Washington to attend the annual meetings of the IMF and the World Bank and other associated meetings. He is accompanied by Reserve Bank of India Governor Urijit Patel, the Indian government’s Chief Economic Adviser Arvind Subramanian and other officials.
MUMBAI, OCT 8 (IANS): Global cues and healthy foreign fund inflows into the debt and equity markets are expected to keep the Indian rupee on an upward trajectory during the upcoming week. “Lower US non-farm payrolls and consequent weakness in dollar trajectory will support the rupee’s movement,” Bansi Madhavani, analyst at India Ratings and Research, told IANS. On Friday, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the total non-farm payroll employment increased by 156,000 in September, whereas the unemployment rate was little changed at 5 per cent. The data assumes significance as it acts as a gauge on the likelihood of a rate hike by the US Federal Reserve in December. A rate-hike can potentially lead FPIs (Foreign Portfolio Investors) away from emerging markets such as India, and is also expected to dent business margins as access to capital from the US will become expensive. “While the US Fed rate hike bets build for December,

WASHINGTON, OCT 8 (IANS): Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has said that 80 per cent of the 240 million new accounts opened under the Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana are now functional with cash balances. “Today, we have been able to connect 240 million people additionally to the banking system. About 80 per cent of them are today functional with cash balances,” Jaitley said at a panel discussion on ‘Financial Inclusion not Exclusion: Managing De-Risking’ here on Friday. “Eighty per cent of these accounts didn’t have money, in the first instance. So all government programmes -- from central to regional to local bodies which give assistance to the weaker sections -- now transfer payments in these accounts. The payments come from schemes like rural employment guarantee scheme and subsidies on fuel, food and ferlilisers,” he added. Talking about the Jan Dhan programme, he said the government undertook it with a mission mode. The entire banking system, including government banks, coordinated and we were able to bridge the gap substantially in 100 days, he said. On another important government initiative of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the Finance Minister said it has been able to cover a billion people in India, that is, 98 per cent of the adult population. The biometric identity (Aadhar) helps the government to identify people who are entitled to state support and exclude those who are not, he added. “Collectively we have been able to bring a lot of people under financial inclusion, but it is still a work in progress,” Jaitley said. World Bank President Jim Yong Kim lauded India’s efforts on financial inclusion and UIDAI.

Hurricane Matthew kills over 800 in Haiti
PORT-AU-PRINCE (HAITI)/DAYTONA BEACH (FLORIDA), OCT 8 (IANS): “Monster” Hurricane Matthew, the most powerful Caribbean storm in a decade, killed more than 800 people and left tens of thousands homeless in Haiti before it churned northwards off Georgia and South Carolina in southeast US early on Saturday, but spared Florida a direct hit. The storm, which has been downgraded to Category Two, has caused flooding, wind damage and power failures in North Florida. Matthew, with winds of 105 miles per hour, is expected to move to North Carolina by night. The storm surges are likely to reach six to nine feet above high tide from Jacksonville, Florida, up through Charleston, South Carolina, reports said. Haiti has borne the brunt of the storm with nearly 30,000 homes destroyed and 150 lives lost in just one part of the country’s southern peninsula.
Image provided by the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti shows the debris left by Hurricane Matthew in Jeremie city, Haiti. In many areas, the sugar, banana and mango crops were flattened. Rescue efforts were hit by the massive destruction all around, with trees and buildings felled and floodwater marooning remote areas. The UN has warned that it could take days for the full impact of Matthew in Haiti to emerge. Haiti’s Civil Protection Agency on Friday doubled the
death toll from the hurricane from 400 to more than 800. World Food Programme’s Haiti Director Carlos Veloso said some of the hard-hit towns in Haiti can be accessed only by air or sea. Matthew battered Haiti’s western peninsula on Tuesday with 145 miles per hour (233 km per hour) winds and torrential rain. More than 61,500 people are in shelters, officials
Pakistan likely to replace ISI chief: Media report
Russian missiles at NATO doorstep: Lithuania
I sla m abad, O ct 8 (IANS): Pakistan is likely to replace the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief, Lt. Gen. Rizwan Akhtar, within the next few weeks -- cutting short the traditional three-year term -- and shift him as the Karachi corps commander, The Nation reported. A security official, privy to the development, confirmed the impending change of command at the nation’s powerful spy agency and said preparations were underway for the transition. Lt. Gen. Akhtar was appointed the ISI head in September 2014 and took office that November. The Karachi corps commander, Lt Gen Naveed Mukhtar, is most likely to replace him, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
Another senior security official, who also spoke on condition of anonymity, said Lt. Gen. Akhtar - who has already served in Karachi as Director General, Sindh Rangers -- knows the challenges in Karachi and “the swapping makes sense”. The official was, however, more circumspect about the timing of the change and said: “It depends on whether the army chief, Gen Raheel Sharif, gets an extension or retires as announced.” “I don’t think the notification of other changes in military command will come before that,” he said. “There are a lot of variables involved.” Gen Raheel Sharif had announced earlier this year that he is not seeking an extension and would retire in November.

VILNIUS, OCT 8 (AGENCIES): Russia is again deploying nuclear- capable Iskander missiles into its Kaliningrad outpost that borders two NATO members, Lithuania said on Saturday, warning the move was aimed at pressuring the West into making concessions over Syria and Ukraine. “Russia is holding military exercises in Kaliningrad, and its scenario includes deployment of Iskander missile systems and the possibile use of them. We are aware of it,” Lithuanian foreign minister Linas Linkevicius told AFP. He said modified Iskander missiles had a range of up to 700 kilometres which means they could reach German capital Berlin from the Russian exclave, which is sandwiched between Poland and Lithuania.
said, Mobile phone networks are down and roads flooded, making it difficult for aid to reach hard-hit areas in Haiti. The Mesa Verde, a US Navy amphibious transport dock ship, was headed for Haiti to support relief efforts. The ship has heavy-lift helicopters, bulldozers, fresh water delivery vehicles and two surgical operating rooms. At least one major town in the south - Jeremie - has been 80 per cent destroyed, with aerial footage showing the scale of destruction with hundreds of flattened houses. The storm passed directly through the Tiburon peninsula - encompassing Haiti’s entire southern coast - driving the sea inland and flattening homes with winds of up to 230km/h and torrential rain, BBC reported. The Red Cross has launched an emergency appeal for $6.9m, “to provide medical, shelter, water and sanitation assistance to 50,000 people”. There have been concerns over a surge in chol-
era cases, with at least seven deaths reported.. After slicing through Haiti and Cuba, Matthew pounded the Bahamas on Thursday but no fatalities were reported there. Four people died in the neighbouring Dominican Republic on Tuesday. As it approached Florida, the storm swept past the coast with winds of up to 120 mph (195 kph) but did not make landfall in the state. The US National Hurricane Center (NHC) downgraded the storm to Category 2 on the five-step Saffir-Simpson scale as its sustained winds dropped to 110 mph. Category 5 is the strongest. Four storm-related deaths were reported in Florida but no immediate reports of significant damage in cities and towns where waves swept through streets, toppled trees and knocked out power to more than 1 million people, the Telegraph reported. More than two million people had been ordered to evacuate the area.
US lifts economic sanctions on Myanmar WASHINGTON, OCT 8 (IANS): US President Barack Obama has issued an executive order to lift economic sanctions on Myanmar. The move came on Friday after Obama’s announcement that the US was ready to lift sanctions on the Asian country during Myanmar State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi’s visit to Washington last month, Xinhua news agency reported. In a letter to Congress, Obama said he has determined that “it is necessary to terminate the national emergency” with regard to Myanmar. “I have determined that the situation that gave rise to the national emergency with respect to Burma (Myanmar) has been significantly altered by Burma’s (Myanmar’s) substantial advances to promote democracy,” Obama said. The Treasury Department said that as a result of Obama’s announcement, the economic and financial sanctions administered by the Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control were no longer in effect. Myanmar
Barack Obama has made significant strides in recent years, “including choosing a civilian-led, democratically elected government”, said Adam Szubin, acting US Under Secretary of Treasury. “Lifting economic and financial sanctions will further support trade and economic growth, and treasury will continue to work with Burma to implement a robust anti-money laundering regime that will help to ensure the security of its financial system,” Szubin said. Last month, Obama announced his intention to reinstate preferential treatment
for Myanmar under the Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) programme, a preferential tariff system. In May, the US lifted some of the sanctions on Myanmar to show support for the country’s political reforms and economic growth and to facilitate trade between the two sides. The move eased restrictions on Myanmar’s financial institutions, allowed certain transactions related to US individuals living in the country, and removed seven state-owned enterprises and three state-owned banks from the US blacklist.
Dangerously biased: the liberal media in America N ew Y or k , O ct 8 (AGENCIES): It’s no secret that the mainstream media is a giant liberal cesspool willing to do and say anything to make sure their Democrat candidate gets elected. In this case it’s Hillary Clinton. Yet in the midst of two consecutive email scandals, her record of failure, including letting four Americans die in Benghazi, and having the father of the terrorist responsible for the worst attack since 9/11 sitting behind her at a recent rally, all the media can report is, “Hey, look, Trump said something distasteful again!” In the compilation video , the YouTube channel “Centipede Productions” has amassed 10 minutes worth of CNN claiming technical difficulties, shouting down guests, to speak the facts pertaining The video begins with and flat-out cutting the micro- to Hillary Clinton’s scandal- a correspondent having her phone of people who attempt ridden past and present. live feed cut off just as she’s
detailing Clinton’s record on supporting laws that the Left now believes unfairly targeted minorities in the 90s. It moves on to a hilarious moment where a CNN host throws to a clip she thought would be angry African Americans protesting Trump, but turns out to be a black pro-Trump supporter talking about the racial unity he’s found at the rallies and the media’s determination to race-bait, which is exactly what that host was trying to do. Hi-lari-ous! Another host slams a conservative guest as lying when in reality she was repeating the talking points of FBI Director Comey’s press conference about Hillary’s secret-home email server, which was filled with classified information she denied was ever there. king of all intolerant CNN hosts, Don Lemon, who will cut the mic on anyone who dares speak a fact about Clinton (or Obama) that he doesn’t agree with. In this clip, he cuts the mic of a guest who dared bring up that Hillary was complicit in the many sexual harassment situations her husband is famous for. The final portion is host Anderson Cooper cutting off a guest who once again dared to speak facts about Hillary that were already reported on CNN and many other news outlets, but were clearly not what the host wanted to hear. Specifically, the guest was bringing up the point that Hillary, who’s campaigning on being a woman who is “for women,” was caught on tape bragging about how she got a child rapist off on a technicality.
Dhaka cafe attack: 11 suspected militants killed DHAKA, OCT 8 (AGENCIES): Bangladeshi security forces killed 11 members of an Islamist militant group on Saturday, most of them dying in a three-hour gun battle on the outskirts of the capital. Authorities said the dead were believed be members of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), blamed for an attack on a café in Dhaka in July in which 22 people were killed, mostly foreigners. The militants were killed in three separate raids on hideouts on the outskirts of Dhaka, Bangladesh Home Minister, Asaduzzaman Khan told reporters. Seven militants were killed in one raid after police was tipped off that the JMB’s Dhaka unit chief and his associates were there. “We requested them to surrender but they opened fire at our officers instead and also exploded grenades, which prompted them to retaliate,” Khan said, adding the threehour gun battle left seven militants dead. “The dead militants include JMB’s Dhaka military commander Akash, which is his organisational name. We are trying to find out his real identity.”Explosives, weapons and machetes were recovered from all three hideouts and three police officers were injured, police said. The 1 July 2016 attack in Dhaka’s diplomatic quarter was claimed by Islamic State militants and was one of the most brazen in Bangladesh, which has been hit by a spate of killings of liberals and members of religious minorities in the past year. Bangladesh police has killed more than three dozen suspected militants in shootouts since the Dhaka café attack, including its presumed mastermind, Bangladeshborn Canadian citizen Tamim Ahmed Chowdhury. Chowdhury is reported to have been the subject of a profile in an Islamic State journal called Dabiq that identified him as its top operative in Bangladesh. The Syria-based militant group also published “selfie” photos of the café attackers on its propaganda channels while the hostage crisis was continuing. K

Iggy Pop reveals why he never wears shirts
I
ggy Pop has revealed what inspired him to always perform shirtless. The Stooges frontman has famously kept up his habit of only appearing topless onstage for decades. Pop was asked what prompted him to stop wearing shirts in an interview at Red Bull Music Academy in Montreal. “When I dropped out of college to start the band, I kept my library card. I’ve always had a student mentality, so I would go to the library, and take books. Cult books about culture and religion, and think about how I could apply those, and I kept seeing these pictures of the Pharaoh. He never wore a shirt,” the 69-year-old said. “That just looks about right, you know? I don’t know why. I feel lost in a shirt. I just get lost.” The extensive, 90-minute long interview covers a host of topics including Iggy Pop’s early avant-garde music, his time recording with the Stooges and later solo records. Pop, who released an album ‘Post Pop Depression’ made together with Josh Homme earlier this year, also gave his thoughts on the current state of the music industry. “I don’t know how the form is going to last either,” he said. “I mean, I’ve noted that when Rihanna makes an album now the big focus tends to be on the streaming of a single number, so that’s a step more in the direction of the early Sixties. Pune City FC’s Ndoye celebrates after scoring a goal.
the hands of diving keeper Laxmikant Kattimani and the rebound came to Arata Izumi who slotted home in the 25th minute. FC Goa found the equaliser in the 33rd minute. Goalkeeper Kattimani sent a long ball from his own half for Joffre Gonzalez who headed the ball towards rival box. Rafael Coelho then got the better of rival defender Gouramangi Singh before slotting the ball into the Pune net. Zico made a change in second half, bringing in midfielder Romeo Fernandes in place of defender Fulgaanco Cardozo and the move paid off as the home team controlled the midfield. FC Goa continued to pile pressure and substitute Romeo Fernandes had the glorious chance to score but he shot wide off the target from close range. Goa did the bulk of attacking but it was Pune who scored the winner from a counter attack in the 90th minute to secure their first win. Lucca split the defence with a through pass to Ndoye who got the better of Lucio and then essayed a firm left-footer that found the far corner of the net.

Margao, Oct 8 (PTI): A last-gasped goal by substitute Momar Ndoye helped FC Pune City beat FC Goa 2-1 and secure their first win in the Indian Super League football at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here today. Ndoye struck the matchwinner in the 90th minute after FC Goa’s Rafael Coelho (33rd minute) had cancelled out Pune side’s 25th minute goal by Arata Izumi. As usual, FC Goa dominated the second half and they had chances to take the lead after the two sides were locked 1-1 at the breather, but Zico’s boys failed to put the ball
into the opposition goal. The visitors, who were back on the wall, capitalised on a rare chance they had in the second session through Ndoye to secure the winner. In the first half, the visitors had more control and better ball possession. Their defence looked solid and thwarted the moves whenever the home team tried to penetrate into the box. Man of the match, Jonathan Lucca, who was the driving force for the visitors, caught the home team napping on a couple of occasions. He fired a shot from the top of the box from a quick build up and the ball hit the post after brushing

Kohli, Rahane power India to 267/3 on Day 1 Indore, Oct 8 (Agencies): Virat Kohli struck form with a gritty century as India ended the opening day’s play on a commanding 267 for three against New Zealand in the third and final Test in Indore on Saturday. The hosts, who elected to bat first, rode on an unbeaten 167-run partnership between Kohli (103) and Ajinkya Rahane (79) to gain control of the innings after early losses. Kohli recorded his 13th Test ton in 48 matches after a string of low scores in his last seven innings since his first Test double hundred against West Indies in July. The top-order batsman, who tackled the New Zealand bowlers with excellent footwork, hit the ball to all parts of the Holkar Stadium. Rahane, who seemed to gain confidence from the freeflowing Kohli at the other end, brought up his fifty -- the tenth of his Test career -- with a six off Jeetan Patel. The 27-year-old Kohli worked hard in the initial part of his innings but grew in stature after getting past fifty and his assured stroke-making soon dominated the New Zealand bowling. Kohli tapped a rising delivery from Matt Henry to run a quick single that saw a direct hit at the non-strikers end but the star batsman scampered home and celebrated his hundred. Brief scores: India 267/3 in 90 overs (Kohli 103*, Rahane 79*) vs New Zealand (Boult 1/66)
M o ko kc h u n g, O c t 8 (NPN): The last second round of league matches of the ongoing MDFA Trophy 2016 witnessed three spirited matches between six teams who were playing in a do or die matches to make it to the pre-quarters (or the last sixteen) that will start from October 11. In the first match, played between Alempang Youth Association and Telongjem FC; the match ended 0-3 in favour of Telongjem FC. The match was evenly contested and the first half of the match ended in a draw. The second half also saw equal competition, however towards the end of the match, an unlikely Telongjem FC defender, Nighatu (Jersey No 4) found a perfect breach in the Alempang defense lines; Nighatu dribbled the ball amidst the Alempang defense lines and finally scored the first goal in the 50th minute. A rejuvenated Telongjem FC found another two goals through striker Ngul Goulal (Jersey No 10) at the 61st and 64th minute.
In the second match, the Mongsenbai Youngsterz FC defeated Monanungsang Memorial SC 2-1 in an exciting match. Moanungsang MSC came quite strong in the first half of the match. Though the first goal came in the 5th minute for Mongsenbai YFC through Yunaba (Jersey No 8), the Moanungsang MSC equalized the goal in the 21st minute through Jungshiwati (Jersey 15) through a perfect header after receiving a cross from his teammate. The second half started, and within minutes of the referees whistle signalling the start, Sedevilie Kire (Jersey No 9) of Mongsenbai YSC breached the defense line and scored the second and final goal for the MYSC in the 36th minute. Moanungsang MSC tried their best to equalize the goal but to no avail. The last match of the day was the most spirited of all as Stardom United FC played against Mongolian United FC for a berth in the pre-quarters in the Group B Pool. Both
the teams played evenly, with vigour and with dedication. The first half ended in a draw 1-1. The tempo was upped in the second half of the match as both the teams tried their best to triumph at the end. In the 36th minute, Mongolian United FC scored the second goal for the team through Bendangtoshi Jamir (it was his second goal, since he scored his first goal for his team in the 6th minute). However, the counter attack by stardom was vigorous and their relentless efforts were rewarded in the 62nd minute when Lipokyanger scored the equalizer. The next few minutes played on, but the final whistle was blown and the match ended in a draw 2-2. The last round of the league matches will be played on Monday.
