EPO to impose indefinite bandh from Sept 26 DIMAPUR, SEP 24 (NPN): Emlo-To Public Organization (EPO) has called for indefinite bandh on vehicular movement from Pukhobokita to Kithsakita (Coco-Doyang road) from September 26 onward. Administration, police para military and medical emergencies have been exempted from the purview of the bandh. In a statement, EPO chairman Abeto Shohe and general secretary Vikato I Chishi said that despite the expiry of the 15-day deadline on September 15, the organization in good faith kept its deadline in abeyance and waited for the government to respond. However, there was no positive response from the government, which compelled the organization to call the bandh. The demand of EmloTo Public Organization was that state government should take up immediate maintenance of CoCoDoyang road. In view of the above, Emlo-To Public Organization has appealed to the public to extend cooperation and bear with the inconveniences.

tion to India while alleging she was a victim of pellet guns in Kashmir. Exercising her right to reply hours after External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj blasted Pakistan for its support to terrorism, Lodhi, on the floor of the UN General Assembly, held up a photograph of a woman whose face was peppered with alleged pellet gun wounds. “This is the face of Indian democracy,” Lodhi claimed. The woman in the photo is Rawya abu Jom’a, who was injured in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza
City in 2014. The criticallyacclaimed photo of a then 17-year-old Rawya was taken on July 22, 2014 by award-winning photojournalist Heidi Levine, who is based in Jerusalem. The picture is available on multiple news websites. “Rawya abu Joma’a, 17, at the Shifa hospital in Gaza City. Rawya was wounded when two Israeli air strikes hit her family’s apartment. Three of her cousins and her sister were killed in the strike,” says the caption of the photo on the website of the UK’s Guardian newspaper. Quite evidently, the picture has no connection with Kashmir. Lodhi, who is quite active on social media, including on Twitter, was silent after it emerged that she posed a fake picture during her right of reply at the UN General Assembly. The Permanent Mission of Pakistan to the UN also did not immediately respond to a PTI query on Lodhi’s apparent use of such a picture.

overall fragmenting status. NEW DELHI, SEP 24 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday asked people to promote tourism spots in their states and also to visit the numerous tourist sites within the country instead of getting attracted by “superficial glitter” abroad. “It is a matter of concern when we do not see our own country, we do not know about its diversities nor do we understand them. Impressed by mere superficial glitter, we have started enjoying touring foreign countries,” Modi said in his Mann Ki Baat radio programme. “I have no issues if you travel around the world but have a look at your own country too,” the Prime Minister added. Modi urged people to visit the seven best tourist destinations in their state and promote them by posting pictures from there on

social networking sites with hashtag ‘Incredible India’. Urging people to travel like a student and observer, Modi said he had visited more than 500 districts in the country. This had helped him to understand things better.“In order to promote tourism, every Indian must know about the best tourist destinations in your state,” Modi said. Lakhs of photographs received from every corner of India will actually become a treasure for the tourism sector, he said. He asked people to
write good travelogues and post information about architecture, natural beauty and daily life of various places. Based on the inputs, the government would prepare publicity material, Modi said. Observing that October to March was a suitable time for tourism, he asked people to travel to different parts of the country as it was full of “myriad diversities” instead of visiting foreign countries. He said Mahatma Gandhi, Lokmanya Tilak and Swami Vivekananda travelled widely in India. This developed their understanding of the country. “Can we make an effort as a student to learn, understand and try to live as per the traditions, culture, attire, eating habits and beliefs of different states, different societies, different groups of our country?” Modi asked.

every stake-holder. NTC also appreciated the Interlocutor, R.N. Ravi for tirelessly and determinedly working to bring everybody to the path of peace. “We find that the Interlocutor is dependable as he remains firm and true to what he talks,” it said. Rapid spread of ‘super malaria’ global threat: Scientists HOB opposes laying of foundation LONDON, SEP 24 (PTI): The rapid spread of “super malaria” in the South East Asia is an alarming global threat and there is an urgent need to eliminate it before the drug-resistant strain of malaria becomes untreatable again, scientists have warned. The dangerous form of the malaria parasite which cannot be killed with the main anti-malaria drugs emerged in Cambodia but has since spread through parts of Thailand, Laos and has arrived in southern Vietnam. Researchers at Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit in Bangkok in a letter, published in The Lancet Infectious Diseases, detail the “recent sinister development” that has seen resistance to the drug artemisinin emerge. “We think it is a serious threat. It is alarming that this strain is spreading so quickly through the whole region and we fear it can spread further
and eventually jump to Africa,” Arjen Dondorp, professor at Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit was quoted as saying by the BBC. The first choice treatment for malaria is artemisinin in combination with piperaquine. But as artemisinin has become less effective, the parasite has now evolved to resist piperaquine too, researchers said. There have now been alarming rates of failure. The treatment was failing around a third of the time in Vietnam while in some regions of Cambodia the failure rate was closer
to 60 per cent, Dondorp said. Resistance to the drugs would be catastrophic in Africa, where 92 per cent of all malaria cases happen, researchers warn. About 212 million people are infected with malaria each year. It is caused by a parasite that is spread by blood- sucking mosquitoes and is a major killer of children. In countries like Africa, South and Central America and Southern Asia, it is important to take extra care to avoid mosquitoes, or take antimalarial medication to prevent infection. Malaria is treated
with drugs known as anti-malarials and vary depending on the type and severity of the disease. If quickly diagnosed and properly treated people with malaria can usually expect to make a full recovery. But the severe form of the disease can progress at a terrifying speed and can kill a person within hours or days. Though if they can overcome the disease, most people beat it for good, but some can experience reoccurring symptoms through their life. It may also be noted that the Nagaland Health and Family Welfare department had also issued a notification to healthcare providers, NGOs, civil society partners and other stakeholders to inform every malaria case to the chief medical officer, district vector borne disease officer and state programme officer to enable epidemiomogical assessment and institution of preventive measures as required.

DIMAPUR, SEP 24 (NPN): Hukphang, Orangkong and Bhumnyu (HOB) youth organisation, Longleng has objected the move of the government to go ahead with the foundation stone laying programme of government polytechnic at Yungho Yongnyah Longleng on September 26, saying that the proposed programme has been haphazardly organized. In a letter addressed to Director, Technical Education, Kohima, the HOB youth organization president, Longkei and general secretary Ngalam reminded the department that haphazardly organising the proposed programme was tantamount to invite serious confrontation and would create serious law and order problem. Therefore, for any eventuality, HOB warned that the department would be solely held responsible. pugned judgment and order passed by the single bench of the Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench before higher judiciary for justice. Also, irrespective of the judgement and order dated September 11 passed by the Gauhati High Court, HOB has asked Phom Peoples Council to take up the matter immediately in order to avoid conflict. Failing which, HOB youth organisation, apex HOB council along with aggrieved 22 villages under Longleng circle will not co-operate with the PPC, the statement added.
