NEW DELHI, SEP 3 (IANS): On the eve of an all-party delegation’s Kashmir trip, the government on Saturday said members were free to hold talks with anyone, including separatists, but urged them to speak in one voice during their two-day visit to the Valley, which has witnessed nearly two months of unending violence. Opposition leaders made a strong case for holding talks with the separatist Hurriyat Conference, an immediate ban on use of pellet guns and withdrawal of the controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from civilian areas in Jammu and Kashmir. Home Minister Rajnath Singh held a preparatory meeting with delegation members here to discuss their engagements in Kashmir, official sources said. Senior home ministry officials briefed the delegation and shared the roadmap for the visit that begins on Sunday.
The delegation of about 28 members includes leaders of over 20 political parties. These include Congress’ Ghulam Nabi Azad and Mallikarjun Kharge, CPI-M’s Sitaram Yechury and AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi. Saturday’s meeting also took note of possible individuals and groups with whom the delegation may interact. The sources said that a group of MPs from major opposition parties could also meet some groups separately. “The gover nment seemed to favour strongly that all-party delegation not only show single-minded determination to bring peace in Jammu and Kashmir, especially in the Valley, but it also wants that the members of the delegation speak in one voice,” a source said. DIMAPUR, SEP 3 (NPN): Naga People’s Front (NPF), taking note of the ill effects caused by promulgation of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) on the ‘day-to-day’ life of the people, stated that the party had taken up the matter at its Central Executive Council (CEC) meeting with utmost concern, and reiterated the demand by a resolution, for revocation of the Act from entire Naga areas. The media & press bureau in a press note informed that the NPF president, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu had on August 31, 2016, dashed a letter to the secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, apprising him of the impact of AFSPA in Nagaland and other neighboring states. Dr. Shürhozelie told the secretary that the people of the state were being kept under fear psychosis for all these years, the press bureau stated. “Nagaland is now in peaceful atmosphere. Such act, which creates fear to the innocent citizens, should be done away with at the earliest. Your office is, therefore,
the boil since the July 8 killing of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani. At least 73 people, including two policemen, have been killed in the weeks of violence. CPI-M leader Yechury suggested that confidencebuilding measures should be announced during the visit of the delegation. The government has said while the members of the delegation are free to meet anyone, including separatists, delegation leader Rajnath Singh’s meetings will be “restricted” and he will meet only those who are ready to resolve all issues within the framework of the constitution. Azad, also a former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, said his party and other constituents of the UPA want “dialogue with all stakeholders”. “It is important the centre and the state government identify the stakeholders,” Azad said. Yechury said the govern-
requested to initiate necessary steps for revocation of AFSPA from the entire Naga area at the earliest, for betterment of its citizens and to enable them to live in peace and harmony.” Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu stated in his letter. Another letter addressed to Nagaland chief minister, with regard to Amendment of Nagaland Municipal & Town Council Act and Panel Discussion on “Vision Document 2030”, the press bureau said Dr. Shürhozelie reminded the chief minister of the CEC’s resolution, for necessary action. The The press bureau said following were the resolutions adopted-- Central Executive Council resolution No. 5: Endorsed the decision of the Cabinet for 33% Women Reservation in Municipal and Town Councils election; reminding that- the CEC, meanwhile suggested that certain provisions of the “Nagaland Municipal & Town Council Act” be reviewed. ment “should invite Hurriyat for talks with the all-party delegation.” He also insisted that the government must ban pellet guns and withdraw AFSPA from civilian areas as also adequate rehabilitation and compensation for the families of those who lost their lives in the recent violence. The government representatives maintained that all efforts will be made to implement Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement of taking the peace initiative to the trouble-hit state on the basis of “insaniyat, jamhuriyat and Kashmiriat”. Rajnath Singh said the delegation would chalk out a list of suggestions and recommendations for the government based on their inputs from the meetings in Kashmir. “On return, the delegation will meet in Delhi and submit the recommendations. Subsequent government actions will be based on their suggestions,” an official source told IANS. Surprisingly, two major Uttar Pradesh-based parties, Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party, said they would not nominate any party leader to go to the valley. The parties have, however, supported the move to send the delegation to Kashmir. NDA constituent, Akali Dal leader Prem Singh Chandumajra, said the “state needs a political framework. NTC slams state govt. for its ‘callous attitude’
DIMAPUR, SEP 3 (NPN): Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) has slammed the state government for its “callous attitude” towards indigenous inhabitants of Nagaland and for failing to protect the rights of the people. In a press note, NTC media cell said “the pioneers of the country and of the state of Nagaland adequately provided protective laws in the constitution of India for perseverance of our culture, tradition, customary and our natural resources”. H owe ve r, N TC e x pressed dismay that the “present day Nagaland government has been miserably failing to uphold those laws due to its callous attitude towards indigenous inhabitants”. It said “Rongmei recognition as an indigenous tribe in Nagaland is the overriding and suppressive precedent which has seriously infringed on the inherent rights of the Nagas of Nagaland”. NTC questioned the government that when “the Rongmeis do not have ancestral land in Nagaland how could they become equals to that of the indigenous tribes of Nagaland?” While lauding the three tribes-- Ao, Lotha and Sumi under the aegis of Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC), for demonstrating the “people’s might and uncompromising stand to defend our rights over land and its people”, NTC said the orga-

The council has called upon all citizens to rise above petty obligations, inhibition and obsession and to take clear stance on the rights and privileges of the indigenous people of Nagaland and to collectively fight against nefarious designs prevailing in the state while steadfastly committed to the fraternal relationship and mutual coexistence with the neighbors for all times to come. NTC reiterated its earlier stance that the land and its people are but one and inseparable. The council further stated that “Naga Integration should therefore evolve the coming together of the Nagas with their lands to live in a single State and any attempt to recognize tribes without the natural process is unacceptable under any circumstances”.

in 1963 and who are eligible to be treated as Indigenous Inhabitant of the state in terms of Notification dated 28th April, 1977, and sought the views as to; (b) Whether members of the Rongmei community who had settled in the state prior to the formation of Nagaland state in December, 1963 and who are eligible to be treated as Indigenous Inhabitant of the state in terms of the above Notification should be counted as one of the Indigenous Naga Tribe or Whether they could be counted as one of the nonNaga Indigenous Tribes of Nagaland. The Hoho said that views and the opinion sought by the government in the said subject were deliberated/discussed in the Naga Hoho presidential council meeting held on September 5, 2008 at Hotel Japfü Kohima as the executive council members alone could not take the decision for such contentious issues. Ao Senden was represented by its general secretary Temjen Paul, Sumi Hoho president Hokishe Yeptho and Yansathung Jami, president of Kyong Hoho and host of representatives from APO, CPO, Zeliangrong Baudi and UNC. At that Naga Hoho presidential council meeting, NH said it was collectively viewed that Rongmei community was eligible to be recognized as desired by the state government basing on the fact that the Kukis, Garos and Kacharis were enjoying the privilege of the Indigenous inhabitants of the State in terms of Government Notification No. AR-8/76, Dated, 28th April 1997. The house had also taken cognizance that the Rongmei community was recognized by the Government of India long before, as one of the tribes in India, it said. (Cont’d on p-7)

tive of curtailing cross-border crime, including goods, arms and counterfeit Indian currency smuggling, drug trafficking, and insurgency, India government had started erecting fencing at Manipur sector of the border. The fencing erection work was done after both the governments conducted a joint survey before erecting the fence. Being unable to contact Shri. Chenirao Jami, A/President, LLRPO despite our efforts, we requested the clan elders at Dimapur to arrange a meeting at the residence of ex-parliamentarian and elderly clansman Shri. Nkhao Lotha alongwith some elders and office bearers of the clan’s Union to mediate on the issue. There was no communication whatsoever with him on that day (i.e. 11-04-2016) hence the claims of A/president conveying his inability to attend the meeting to meet the mediators, as it was not his personal issue but that it pertains to LLRPO does not arise. 2. The allegation “giving false report to Lotha Hoho” does not hold water as he did not even attend the meeting. As such, the statements made against us are fabricated and devoid of any truth and facts but just to defame, tarnish and malign our image which is nothing but character assassination by the then LLRPO officials. 1. The meeting of the Collegium was called off due to the development.

NEW DELHI, SEP 3 (PTI): President Pranab Mukherjee today called Mother Teresa a “messiah” of the poor and a pillar of support for the weak as he said every Indian will take pride on her canonisation tomorrow. In his message on the eve of the canonisation ceremony to be done by Pope Fracis at Vatican City, Mukherjee said Mother Teresa was an embodiment of compassion. “She dedicated her entire life to serving the poorest of the poor as well as the destitute and forsaken. Mother Teresa saw herself as ‘small pencil in the hands of the Lord’ and went about her work quietly, offering smiles and warm human gestures. “Always dressed in a simple white, blue border sari, Mother Teresa undertook her work with great love and commitment. Mother Teresa provided dignity and respect to those who had been defeated by life. She was a messiah of the poor and a pillar of support for the weak and suffering. Her simple manners touched the hearts of millions of people of all faiths,” he said. The President said her message of love continues to inspire millions of people around the world. “Every citizen of India will take pride in the recognition being accorded to Mother Teresa for her service to humanity and God through this Canonisation. Let the example of Mother Teresa inspire all of us to dedicate ourselves to the welfare of mankind,” he said. He said Mother Teresa established the Missionaries of Charity in 1950 with the mission of caring for “the hungry, the naked, the homeless, the crippled, the blind, the lepers, all those people who feel unwanted, unloved, uncared for throughout society, people that have become a burden to the society and are shunned by

She alleged that Kumar had offered her a spiked drink and, when she fell unconscious, she was taken to his house adjacent to the office and raped. The woman alleged that Kumar had told her that he will get a ration card for her and also ensure jobs for her children. Kumar has been booked under IPC sections 376 (rape), 328 (Causing hurt by

She glorified her life with the dignity of humble service. In recognition of Mother Teresa’s selfless and dedicated services, a grateful nation conferred on her India’s highest civilian award ‘Bharat Ratna’ in 1980,” he said. Remembering her words, the President said Mother Te-
resa often said: “What the poor need most is to feel needed, to feel loved. There are remedies and treatments for all kinds of illnesses but when someone is undesirable, if there are no serving hands and loving hearts, then there is no hope for a true cure.” Mother Teresa will be declared a saint by Pope Francis of the Roman Catholic Church in a canonisation ceremony in Vatican City on Sunday in the presence of her followers from all over the world. A 12-member central delegation led by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and two state government-level delegations from Delhi and West Bengal led by Chief Ministers Arvind Kejriwal and Mamata Banerjee, respectively, will attend the ceremony.

NEW DELHI, SEP 3 (IANS): The Congress on Saturday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of misleading the country by misrepresenting facts related to the economy and distorting facts and figures of the GDP, FDI, National Saving Rate and National Investment Rate and dared him to come out with a White Paper on the economic situation bequeathed by the UPA government. “Today our economy is in a worrying situation. Key parameters like National Saving Rate & National Investment Rate have fallen,” said senior Congress leader Anand Sharma. “For the first time the investment rate has fallen below the saving rate,” he said, at a press conference here. Criticising Modi’s interview in which he had outlined a dire scenario when he took over, Sharma, a former Union Minister, said: “The questions and answers appeared to be prepared by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).” Modi, in an interview to CNN News18 on Friday said there was “huge disappointment” in India before the BJP-led NDA government was formed in 2014. The newspapers would be full of stories on corruption in those days and he wanted to bring a White Paper on the economic situation in the country before his government presented its first budget in 2014 but opted against it in the national interest, even at the risk of political damage. To this, Sharma said: “After being in power for 27 months, these excuses are not expected. Instead of making comments on the previous government, Modi should talk about all of his electoral promises which have remained unfulfilled. “Jobs have not been created. And we challenge the government to come out with a white paper to tell the country about falling investment rate to $261 million.

Vietnam had earlier Comprehensive Strategic Partnership only with Russia and China. “I am also happy to announce a new Defence Line of Credit for Vietnam of USD 500 million for facilitating deeper defence cooperation,” Modi said after the signing of the agreements. The 12 agreements were signed in a wide range of areas covering defence, IT, space, cyber security and sharing white shipping information in presence of Modi and Phuc. “The range of agreements signed just a while ago point to the diversity and depth of our cooperation,” he said, adding the agreement on construction of offshore patrol boats is one of the steps to give concrete shape to the bilateral defence engagement. Later in a joint statement, both India and Vietnam also called for “peaceful” resolution of the South China Sea issue
the seas and oceans,” it said. China is involved in a raging dispute with the Philippines, Vietnam, Taiwan, Malaysia and Brunei over ownership of territory in the South China Sea (SCS), a busy waterway through which India’s 50 per cent trade passes. India and the US have been calling for freedom of passage in the international waters, much to the discomfort to Beijing, whose claim over SCS was recently struck down by an international tribunal in favour of the Philippines. China has also objected in the past to India’s Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) undertaking exploration at the invitation of Vietnam in the SCS, which is believed to be rich in undersea deposits of oil and gas. “Our common efforts will also contribute to stability, security and prosperity in this region,” Modi said. He described his talks with Vietnamese counterpart as “extensive and very productive” and said they covered the full range of bilateral and multilateral cooperation. “We have agreed to scale up and strengthen our bilateral engagement. As two important countries in this region, we also feel it necessary to further our ties on regional and international issues of common concern,” said Modi, who is here on a day-long visit. “We also recognised the need to cooperate in responding to emerging regional challenges,” the Prime Minister said, without naming any country. Vietnam has shown a keen interest cooperating with India in air and defense production. India’s L&T will build offshore high speed patrol boats for Vietnamese Coast Guards, while a pact was signed on cooperation in UN peacekeeping matters.

HANOI, SEP 3 (PTI): India today extended a USD 500 million line of credit to Vietnam to deepen their defence cooperation and signed 12 agreements including a deal to construct offshore patrol boats, amid China’s muscle flexing in the disputed South China Sea and “emerging regional challenges”. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who held wide-ranging talks with his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Xuan Phuc here, said the two countries have decided to elevate their strategic ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to provide it a new momentum. “Our decision to upgrade our Strategic Partnership to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership captures the intent and path of our future cooperation. It will provide a new direction, momentum and substance to our bilateral cooperation,” said Modi, who arrived here yesterday on his maiden visit to this key south east Asian

The west’s Trojan horse
W
hat is happening in the promiscuous, liberal and capitalist-driven societies of the West as accentuated by recent happenings in France, a nation that prided itself as being the global capital of civilisation with highly developed arts, social and literature culture; rings another of several wake up calls to the democratic societies. The recent ban in France, on a cumbersome looking dress that goes by a funny sounding name ‘burkini’(or burkha-bikini) developed by an Australian Muslim woman, has caused huge uproar among left-liberal groups and human rights activists in both France and other western countries. The French by an overwhelming 69% favour the ban despite the French Supreme Court striking down the ban in Nice. A muslim woman was banned from wearing the burkini the so-called bathing suit that was recently criminalized in 15 French cities. The burkini is not a bikini by any stretch of imagination and can also not be called a swim suit but adherence to Muslim dress code for women and practically symbolising the laws of a religion. The radicalisation of Islam, as it is often described by the western left-liberal media, is not a new thing. Islam is clear about what its followers must be and there are no two opinions about it. The code of conduct for every genuine believer of Islam is clearly dictated by the Sharia and without it, no person supposedly following the faith, is deemed to be a true follower. Followers of Islam believe they are the only righteous people on earth and the only nation who hold the truth. Muslims believe Islam is the only true religion. There are millions of muslims in the west, whose parents or grandparents migrated to the country where they are citizens today. Most had left the muslim countries of their origin because of the harsh rule through edicts imposed by the clerics in totalitarian or despotic regimes. Some migrated for economic reasons and some for study etc. They immigrated to the western countries but continue to hold the same belief system that had turned their lives to hell back in the countries of their origin. These western-borne, bred or educated muslims have only shown what their faith teaches as they reassert the exclusive hegemony that transformed their countries into war zones of endless conflicts. Lakhs of Muslim immigrants who have been rendered homeless and who are desperately flooding to the western countries, have insulated themselves from the ‘decadent western culture’ and feel they should bring a change. Islamic scholars, liberals in the west and scores of apologists (including women appearing on TV with Burqa and Hijab) make strong claim that their religion is democratic, treats everyone equally and espouses peace among all. The liberals including liberal media argue that ordinary muslims(if there is any such) only demand tolerance, but they don’t tolerate anybody else in other societies or faiths. Muslims immigrate to western countries and think it’s the duty of the western society to integrate to them, not the reverse. The severance of Judeo-Christian ethics in the liberal west and chiefly brought about by left-liberal ideologies, has unfortunately given rise to extreme Islam in its true form. The Islamization of Europe and America is inevitable. Indeed, only two outcomes are possible: either Europe will rediscover its Christian identity and survive, or the continent will become Muslim. The next decade will be decisive.
DailyDevotion Pouring Out the Water of Satisfaction He would not drink it, but poured it out to the Lord. —2 Samuel 23:16 What has been like “water from the well of Bethlehem” to you recently— love, friendship, or maybe some spiritual blessing (2 Samuel 23:16)? Have you taken whatever it may be, even at the risk of damaging your own soul, simply to satisfy yourself? If you have, then you cannot pour it out “to the Lord.” You can never set apart for God something that you desire for yourself to achieve your own satisfaction. If you try to satisfy yourself with a blessing from God, it will corrupt you. You must sacrifice it, pouring it out to God— something that your common sense says is an absurd waste. How can I pour out “to the Lord” natural love and spiritual blessings? There is only one way— I must make a determination in my mind to do so. There are certain things other people do that could never be received by someone who does not know God, because it is humanly impossible to repay them. As soon as I realize that something is too wonderful for me, that I am not worthy to receive it, and that it is not meant for a human being at all, I must pour it out “to the Lord.” Then these very things that have come to me will be poured out as “rivers of living water” all around me (John 7:38). And until I pour these things out to God, they actually endanger those I love, as well as myself, because they will be turned into lust. Yes, we can be lustful in things that are not sordid and vile. Even love must be transformed by being poured out “to the Lord.” If you have become bitter and sour, it is because when God gave you a blessing you hoarded it. Yet if you had poured it out to Him, you would have been the sweetest person on earth. If you are always keeping blessings to yourself and never learning to pour out anything “to the Lord,” other people will never have their vision of God expanded through you.

Post-mortem
Innovative teaching methods F A
s the country observes Teachers’ Day today, I wish to participate in the celebration by presenting a few new teaching methods I developed over several years of teaching. They are based purely on my own experience in the classroom, and I report this for the benefit of teachers in the Undergraduate level. The methods have been successful in our college condition and I hope that it will be applicable in other colleges too. Here are a few of the new teaching methods which may be called Innovative Teaching Methods; 1. Road-mapping: It is important to make an individual roadmap of teaching in the beginning of each academic year or semester. This must be done by consulting the Holiday List or Calendar of Events of the institution for the academic session, to ascertain the number of working days, know the dates of working and non-working days etc. Then we can divide the Units of the Syllabus among the number of working days we have in hand to complete the course on time. Such exercise helps us to keep ourselves on track of what has been done and what more is to be done within the limited time frame. This practice make us alert all the time and it enables us to teach the course in a systematic manner. 2. Advance Reading: Under this method, the teacher may introduce a topic to the class one or two weeks in advance. While doing so he should pick out only the most interesting part of the lesson and give a very short introduction of the concept just to generate certain amount of interest in the students’ mind. He may then announce a future date, time and place where the lesson would be discussed in detail. During this interim period the students are encouraged to read the lesson in advance by providing references with the name of the book, authors, chapters and pages etc.. Experience show that
on the appointed day as the teacher unravels the topic the students take more interest in the lesson. Questions and counter-questions follow that make the class very interesting. The teacher comes in off and on for supplementations and moderation only. Definitely 45 minutes is not enough. This method is becoming more successful these days as more and more smart students are joining the College in recent times. 3. Documentation of Teaching materials: Each teacher is expected to prepare the lessons before going to class irrespective of whatever level he teaches in. At undergraduate level it is unthinkable to enter classroom without preparation. And so whatever preparation we make over the years must be well documented. If possible such materials should be computerized and archived for future reference. This becomes handy for helping the needy students as well as for easy preparation of the same or related lesson in the future. This also helps us to teach the lesson in a systematic manner. 4. Whatsapp group: With the coming of Smart Phone and introduction of Whatsapp application, teaching has become very interesting. The moment I am allotted a class, I open a Whatsapp group for the particular class and enroll all the students in it. In order to cover those students who either don’t have a Smart Phone or any other mobile phone I divide them into groups making sure that every sub-group has a student with a Smart phone. Using this application I communicate with them on regular basis supplying reading materials, giving assignments, mark scores, clearing their doubts and providing any other information pertaining to the class. The students really look forward to using this method in learning their lessons. This method comes handy
for subjects like mathematics where regular class period are not enough to work out various problems in the classroom. Further it virtually enables a teacher to take class even during holidays and Sundays using this application. 5. Class Works: Recently I have tried another method which is to introduce a few topics in the class simultaneously and then allow the students to disburse for thirty minutes within which they are made to produce a short write up on any of the topics. They are sent to the Library or consult any material from their text book to do the write up. At the end of the period the write ups would be collected and examined by the teacher like any regular assignment. This method generates a lot of enthusiasm among the students. 6. Provision of additional study materials to the students: Since last year I have started another practice by opening a separate folder in the Library Computer where I would upload the study materials like MP4 videos and worked examples of Mathematics for Economists which are not transportable through Whatsapp application. I would then make announcement in the class so that interested students may download them from the Library. The above methods are all in trial and error stage and no method is foolproof and equally applicable in all situations. Accordingly these methods are only indicative in nature and in way is it claimed as non-exhaustive. A teacher knows the best and can read the best on the ground situation. Accordingly, he is expected to take his own decision and apply any tactic based on his experience and intuition. Nevertheless one must realize that in teaching, creativity does pay rich dividends. Diligent in business
irst of all, we can all agree that the Bible does not prohibit making money. The Apostle Paul worked as a tent maker to provide his personal needs (Acts. 18:1-3/2 Thes 3:8). He taught the Thessalonians that if a man was unwilling to work, then he should be allowed to go hungry (2 Thes. 3:10) without question the Biblical emphasis is that a man should work diligently for the supply of his needs and the needs of his family. The Bible condemns no one for being rich. Some of its characters Abraham, Joseph, Job, Joseph of Arimathea were wealthy people. - Certain statements, a true believer need these kinds of Reservations. 1. His work should not be allowed to take precedence over the things of the Lord. His paramount obligation is to seek the kingdom of God and his Righteousness (Matt 6:33). Worship and service should not suffer because of the pressure of Business. 2. His family obligations must not be neglected (1tim.5:8). Ordinarily the more money a man makes, the less time he has for his wife and children. He cannot compensate for this by lavishing luxury and wealth on them; this only adds to their spiritual and more decay. They need companionship and guidance of a godly husband and father for more than they need a bulging Bank account. 3. His money should be made in a business that is reputable (Prov.1016). This should go without saying it’s a Questionable for a Christian to give his time to the production, distribution or advertising of commodities that endanger health or contributed to the lowering of morals. Neither should a Christian spend his life entertaining people who are on the highway to Hell. Work should be constructive and for the common good. 4. The Believer should be sure that he is making his money honestly
(Prov. 20:17). His Business may be reputable enough but his method may be crooked for instancea) Falsifying income-tax returns (Prov. 12:11) b) Cheating on weight and measures (Prov.11:13) c) Bribing Local inspectors (Prov.17:23) d) Advertising differences in products when no such difference exist (Prov. 20:6) e) Exaggerating the expense Account (Prov.13:5) f) Speculating in the market or on the stock exchange just another form of gambling (Prov. 13:11) g) Paying inadequate wages to employees (Prov.22:16) The Christian may make as much money as he can without imperilling his own health. His body is the temple of The Holy Spirit (1 Cor.6:19). He should not squander his Health in the acquisition of wealth. It is time the Church woke up! Speak to educated young people from all over the world! Here their criticisms of Christianity! They are not opposed to the ethics of Jesus, but they are violently opposed to wealth of the Church and Christians in a world of grinding poverty. - Someone once said that when the golden slippers climb the staircase, the Hob-nailed boots are not far behind. Let the Church listen. - Perhaps some will say that preachers should be poor, but not necessarily all Christians. But where does the Bible teach a different economic standard for preachers and for others, for missionaries and for folks at home? - The love of money may be a source of Evil. But money can also be a tool with great potential for doing God’s work. Let us utilized it properly. D.A. Achumi, 27/7 Chain of Prayer Ministry
‘Make Nagas great again’- Case for a Naga Donald Trump! (From previous issue) We need a Naga Donald (or NagaDon, for short!) to erect the IBI WALL (ILP)and stop illegal immigrants from entering the State; in our case, the Wall of ILP should be extended to Dimapur district. The Manipuris too want their own ILP Wall. The East Europeans have built their barbed wire Wall. The latest instance of a suspected IBI attempting to rape an Angami woman in Kohima heralds the finality that Nagas are no longer safeor feared. The NagaDonald should erect another Wall- by enforcing the 1978 Land Act which bars sale of lands to outsiders. Meghalaya has such a strictly enforced law. We have had enough of our mainstream politicians thumping their fists against Illegal immigrants during official functions only to actively solicit their donations during elections. The Angela Merkels should be banished to political wilderness. For once, Hillary is right; there’s a rise in Right-wing politicians all over the world led by the genius, Putin of Russia. The NagaDonald should be Right-wing; no different from Putin, or PM Modi. The American Donald has constantly attacked Hillary for being under the control of Wall Street bankers and unethical Corporations. Mexican illegals in the US are also accused of taking jobs away from American patriots. The IBIs cannot have their free run anymore. The NagaDonald should systematically and legally dismantle all the syndicate and illegal businesses. The Hillary Clintons of Nagaland enriching themselves from

n a democratic state the elected government, elected through sacred ballot system is the head of the state. The point is simple and free from puzzle. Today our Nagaland state is full of puzzle and like a game of puzzle, we can only find out the head after lengthy struggle just like it takes serious efforts to win in a game of puzzle. The situations in Nagaland forced me to raise a question; are we really in the position to practice democratic values and principles. When we all have a characters of a dictators. It’s true whether you agree or not. Truth is always bitter; when we check ourselves we are one of the last races on earth to avail the benefits of modern civilization. Other society has already lived under a government for hundreds of years while we fully start to live under a full pledge government only in the year 1963. Till 1963 we can say that only 5% of the whole Naga population has received a quality education. Few will be a holder of bachelor degree and many matriculates or below. These few early educated were man of principles and values, some elected to govern the state governed the state with principles and it is an undeni-
Wall Street should be identified and defeated. Most mainstream Naga politicians are under the control of our own Wall Street giants, owners of counterfeit businesses run by flyby-night operators. No longer should the Naga Donald entertain interests; where, the idea of business is to bribe and then flood the State with illicit, spurious alcohol; where, their sense of business is to supply chalk that turns yellow after a week; where, their idea of corporate responsibility is to siphon off rice and wheat meant for poor beneficiaries in the state from Kolkata itself;where, the motive for running a government licensed kerosene agency is to destroy our vehicles with diverted kerosene mixed in our fuel; and where, the idea of goods supply is to resupply the department with leaky old pipes bought from the department itself after repainting it!The NagaDonald should also destroy all the phony 10% interest (Naga Interest) societies! The rather inconvenient truth is that we have reduced ourselves to an undignified existence - a “PURCHASABLE RACE” in all aspects. One cannot be but aghast when the wheeler-dealer mobile phone retailer feels self-exalted enough to proposition our women for gratification in exchange for a brand new phone and the deal gets done, easily. Judas Iscariot was the author of the indignity called “30 pieces of silver,” but most Nagas haven’t tottered far from the tree where he hanged himself. The NagaDon should build up the Naga economy. China is extensively flayed by the Donald for
taking away jobs from America. The promise to “Make America Great Again” is primarily on the economic front. While our own work culture is truly missing, the state government is much guilty of doing nothing. The NagaDonald should be a visionary. He should identify our core competencies, such as, agriculture, horticulture and floriculture to name a few, and in sports, archery, wrestling, boxing, taekwondo, shooting, and football, etc. Team GB excelled in both London and Rio Olympics by concentrating on their competencies. He should engage in full-border trade with Myanmar (Unlike the hardy Meiteis, most of us would perish in case Assam decides to starve us! Check out the mad scramble in Breeze bakery during single bandh days!).In our case, the fiery dragon China is the Lahorijan-Khatkhati sector which is fast developing into a major trading hub. In 20 years’ time at present pace, it should rival Dimapur. Strategically speaking, the NagaDonald should have a Lahorijan-Khatkhati containment policy. The American Donald is less clear on the morality front. While he is pro-life, he has been sending mixed signals on family, gays and lesbians. The NagaDonald should be clear with his Christian Worldview. So what is this Christian World view? The Christian Worldview believes in a moral order which is the undergird of every cultural proposition, such as, polity, economy, arts and culture, music, governance, media, etc., in the secular world. Without amoral order or a moral compass referencing

able fact that early legislatures could run the state in a proper direction where they could implement the developmental schemes into reality and where deficits and scam were unheard of. The pioneers laid a foundation on principles and oneness where any Naga tribe was also accommodated in service. The journey was smooth for some time and almost all educated Nagas knew from where it all went wrong and how it went wrong. I don’t need to present again in details but interested and future oriented students can do proper research to find out from where the successive government turn into a looters of our state exchequer. I am fortunate that those legislatures who looted the state exchequer were neither from my family nor close relatives, blessing in disguise for not having resources to be legislature. It is a pity for every individual to hear names of their father or uncles and grandfather as looters, thief etc. but we Nagas don’t care about principles or honor as long as we own a bungalow or drive an expensive car. Principles and honor is long kicked out from our dictionary and only archaeologist with the help of carbon dating can give an approximate date we
erase principles from our dictionary. When we are lead by man of principles we can share little thing we have while lead by man of no principles we are bound to employ various scheme and propaganda to have a lion share in everything. Born in 1989 I can say that I was born after the era of Naga leaders with principles. Because after acquiring thinking and analyzing ability thanks to education, I only came to read of accusations and counter accusations, scams, backdoor appointment and power struggles among our leaders without principles. Not only this elected leaders but leaders of civil organization are key players issuing dictates and warning if govt. policies are not in their liking. Inter tribe conflicts are still lurking behind as our shadows. Recently I came to read of a village chairman visiting his neighbor village with a sole aim to apologize for any misgivings done intentionally and unintentionally not only his misgiving but of his ancestors too, a good start for a leader and his followers. How many leaders are left to do exactly like him, we are good in accusing others not apologizing, think we inherited it from our ancestors. We need leaders who can

When parents in England ‘strongly support’ their 11 year old daughter for a sex change, we don’t doubt the sanity of the parents, but wholly agree that when the parents themselves have grown up in a secular and liberal world view peddled with heavy doses of John Lennon’s “ ‘Imagine’ There’s No Heaven” song; and peppered with massive counterChristian Worldviews advocated by hippie, pot-smoking Oxford and Cambridge university professors rebelling against the established moral culture; their child’s abnormal orientation is bound to be accepted as normal and acceptable; and the people questioning the child’s upbringing as retards! When newspapers in Nagaland carry stories on lesbian marriage, or the transgender community on its front page or entertainment section, it’s not just a story- it’s advocacy, that there is no right or wrong anymorea Worldview, as opposed to absolute truths. Nagas were never strongly equipped enough in the Word to handle moral questions. No wonder our state has always been an excellent breeding ground for other Worldviews. This is in sharp contrast to the immigrant musalman French woman, who, despite being a racial and religious minority group, bared her fangs, carried her Worldview, and defied the law and ethos of France- the French Worldview, and wore burkini- the Muslim version of full-body bikini complete with headscarf, in a beach courting arrest! It’s a sharp contrast to
apologize since we are human. We make mistakes and if we don’t see our mistakes how can we see only other mistakes and pinpoint. Former PM of United Kingdom apologize for involving Uk in Iraq War. He gave sincere apologies. While here in Nagaland we have no Tony Blair but only dictators whose words are laws. Any Naga leaders who stood for oneness of all Naga will be ridiculed by his fellow tribesman as fools for going against his tribe interest. Sadly I knew only one Leader who always stood above his tribe interest out lakhs of Naga population in Nagaland we have only one leader like him. This is the reason we are lacking behind in everything. USA will not be USA today if leaders like our leaders from Nagaland lead America. For America is home to different race leave aside ethnic groups here in our state only one race, one ethnic group but no oneness. Why? Who to blame parents or children’s. Naga society need loving parents for apple don’t fall far from the tree. All this happens when we don’t know who the head is? Pakinrichapbo, Samziuram village Peren
our ethos, where,a procession of alien Worldviews in the form of Western liberal thoughts- atheism, gay and lesbian activism are all extensions of it, Japanese Anime, satanic worship-another cultural import, patriarchy-bashing feminism (actually patriarchy has no connection with women suppression as made out by some women/rights groups in the state), etc., have all found gospel truth acceptance in our society. No wonder, there’s a moral paralysis in the state; another reason why eyebrows aren’t raised when our leaders pimp influential Union Ministers in the hope of getting ‘precious departmental funds’. Rather, para-manu is that exalted man who has looted the entire state treasury. Of late, our kids are growing up as transvestites, bisexuals, gays and lesbians, thanks to un-parenting, the rather bizarre liberal World view peddled around that every individual is inherently good, and therefore all children should be allowed to grow at his/her own choice. The NagaDonald is called to provide a strong moral foundation for the Nagas and shepherd us. The current crop of leaders has failed us and will ultimately lead us to abysmal level of frustration and possible civil war if we ourselves don’t take control of our own existence. But who shall be the Naga Donald? For the sake of “In God We Trust” and “Nagaland for Christ” both, theDonald is the need of the hour. BRING UP THE WALL! (Concluded) Joel Nillo Naga, Dimapur

Sir,
SKK on RTI and fight against corruption
The All Sumi Students’ Union (SKK) applaud the bold initiative of its former president against all the rampant corruption that involve in the future of stakeholders for a long time. Yet, never too late, the concern leaders rightly stood up, opening the eye of Nagas in general to fight against corruption in phase manner by seeking information through Right to Information (RTI) is a long cherished hope. The SKK endorses its support and affirm to fight “tooth and nail.” It also assure to the investigating authorities for all out co-operation and also appeal to expedite the investigation process and bring out justice in public domain by fixing responsibilities on errant officers/individuals. Since, such practices have enveloped the developmental activities, and also have encouraged anti-social elements which is in its height. Besides, many evidences have proved that Nagas are going on without ‘vision’ in development activities by not concerning the state but constituencies and tribal line which has marginalised many districts and has overlooked the talented individuals or groups where Nagas cannot promote with other state/countries even in 2/3 centuries. It therefore advocates for balance development on priorities and result oriented basis. Therefore strongly, urge upon other social organisations and particularly the tribal student organisations to join the movement to ventilate ways and means for brighter future of Nagas. Govt nurses call off nationwide strike
Striking nurses of Lok Nayak Hospital stage a demonstration to press for their demands in New Delhi, on Sept 2, 2016. (Photo: IANS) NEW DELHI, SEP 3 (PTI): Nurses in government hospitals across the country today called off their indefinite strike after reaching a compromise with the Centre, in a major relief for Delhi and some other cities battling rising cases of dengue and chikungunya. The strike called by the All India Government Nurses Federation (AIGNF) yester-
day had severely crippled health services at hospitals in the national capital and some other cities in the last two days. After the strike began, Delhi government had invoked the stringent Essential Service Maintenance Act (ESMA) and declared the stir as illegal. Two male nurses of Dr Ambedkar Hospital in outer Delhi were today
arrested under the Act. “We have been given assurance by the central government that our outstanding issues would be resolved by September 12. Also, the Delhi Chief Secretary has assured us that the police cases against the two nurses would be withdrawn and they would be released. So, we are calling off our nationwide strike,” AIGNF spokesperson
Liladhar Ramchandani told PTI. The Centre has constituted a committee headed by the Finance Secretary to look into the outstanding demands which has invited the nurses federation on September 12 for talks. “We received a call from Union Health Minister J P Nadda and he asked us to withdraw the strike as Delhi and many other cities are grappling with rising cases of dengue and chikungunya. This health crisis was one of the major reasons we decided to call off the stir,” he said. The nurses have been demanding revision in pay and allowances for quite some time now. Earlier in the day, Delhi hospitals, hit the hardest by the strike, managed with contractual nurses and interns to make up for the shortage of nursing, while Centre and the nursing federation held talks to find a way out of the crisis. “We had talks with the government till late night. Members of the nursing federations discussed the issue with the Joint Secretary at Nirman Bhawan after talks with the nursing advisor earlier in the day,” Ramchandani said.
CNTC statement totally misguiding: NH Organisations formed by members of various Naga Tribes collectively or otherwise not affiliated to the Naga Hoho shall remain as sub-ordinate body(ies) to the Naga Hoho”. NH said the door was open if any newly formed Naga organisations or otherwise was willing to become the sub–ordinate bodies of Naga Hoho in line with the motto and directive principles of the Naga Hoho. However, Naga Hoho said it cannot force any organisation to be a part and parcel of the Hoho in case they were not willing to cooperate with Naga Hoho. NH stated that the newly formed CNTC did not communicate to the Hoho officially about its formation and their objectives till date although the three constituent units/tribes-- Ao, Sumi and Lotha were directly affiliated to Naga Hoho. Unfortunately, it said the Lotha Hoho was currently not affiliated to Naga Hoho because of differences within their community. NH said the erstwhile Kyong Hoho was the only recognised Lotha apex organisation under Naga Hoho until the mass resignation of its officials on
October 14, 2015. Naga Hoho it was very clear that any organization/ Council/Union etc follow guidelines and certain decorum to be adhered to when it comes to working relationship either with counterparts or different government machineries. NH said the ultimatum served on it by CNTC in written and through media cannot be acknowledged, as the Naga Hoho was not answerable to CNTC except to Ao Senden and Sumi Hoho. Above all most importantly, NH said recognizing or rejecting granting of Indigenous Naga tribe to Rongmei Community was not in its hands since it was solely under the prerogative of the state government. Therefore, NH said the question of CNTC’s disassociation from Naga Hoho over the recognition of Rongmei tribe “does not arise as highlighted in the local media on 1st September 2016.” “Our valued Federating Units who are trying to tarnish Naga Hoho through undemocratic and unethical means shows lack of far sightedness,” NH said. Further, the Hoho stat-
ed that “issuing diktat” by CNTC on behalf of the entire Ao and Sumi community and further directing the Naga Hoho officials from the three tribes to “exit immediately” was “beyond our comprehension.” The Hoho said it “strongly feel’ that Aos and Sumis must take consensus decision through general body meeting either to disassociate /withdraw from the membership of Naga Hoho. Sensing that the “Rongmei” issue had become a bone of contention among various sections of the Naga Society, Naga Hoho said it had notified on August 27, 2016 through media that Naga Hoho Federal Assembly would be held on September 28, 2016 at Kohima where “Tribe Recognition” issue would be one of the main agenda. In this regard, the Naga Hoho has fervently appealed to Ao Senden and Sumi Hoho to attend the scheduled Federal Assembly and share their opinions and grievances democratically “so as to enable us to come out with an acceptable decision in the best interest of our Naga people.”

Women quota: NCD reaffirms stand on public resolution (From p-1) Nagas must be ready to adopt its own system to accommodate women in governance till such time women reservation becomes an enforceable law with its own regulation. NCD stated that pending such laws, women reservation in the municipal and town councils should be on the basis of nominating by certain percentage in all the administrative set up in Nagaland. Accordingly, the council stated that the chief minister’s proposal of 25% reservation with voting right should be implemented in true spirit. “Otherwise recent
33% reservation for women passed by state cabinet was premature and not at the right time,” NCD stated. Further, it stated that section 23A of the Municipal Act contradicted with the Naga customary law and practices granted by the Article 371A of the Indian constitution. Therefore, the council stated that section 23A should be repealed first in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly. “The amendment is necessitated in accordance to stand state government to preserve constitutional implementation referred to Article 371 A,” NCD stated.

(From p-1) Accordingly, NH said the opinion of the Naga Hoho was communicated to the government vide Letter No. NH/Corr/2008-11 dated 22-9-08 and further appealed to the government that “the committee should examine with all seriousness in regard to conduct of enumeration and include only the eligible people belonging to Rongmei community who had settled in Nagaland prior to the formation of Nagaland State so as to evade communal ramification in days to come”. NH said the letter dated September 22, 2008 to the state government contained just the opinion and views of the Naga Hoho and not “endorsement” as alleged. In fact, the Hoho said opinion and views contained in the letter dated September 22, 2008 was arrived in presence of the representative of other Tribal Apex Bodies, and at in point of time, the Ao Senden or the Sumi Hoho and other tribal bodies consulted the Naga Hoho to withdraw their earlier views and opinion conveyed to the government. It said sur prisingly CNTC gave direction to the Naga Hoho to withdraw its views and opinion without observing procedural lapses and formalities by giving 30day deadline, which expired on August 31, 2016. In this context, NH said the executive council cannot overrule the decision of either Presidential Council or Federal Assembly of Naga Hoho. It said Article 7 of the Naga Hoho Constitution clearly states that “Naga

the rise in such cases was only marginal. Other crops like cotton, sugarcane and jute, on the other hand, recorded a decline as compared to 2015. Overall, the total sown area for all kharif crops together stands at 1,033.99 lakh hectares on Friday as compared to 997.11 lakh hectares at this time last year, an increase of a mere 3.7% over 2015, which was the drought year. Sowing of kharif crops begins with the onset of southwest monsoon from June and continues till mid-September. Harvest generally starts in October, mainly for the crops which are sown in June.

it recorded an increase of over 39% this year. Arhar (tur dal or pigeon pea) which recorded the maximum price rise has, in fact, led the pack of pulses in terms of coverage. Experts believe that the enthusiasm of farmers towards pulses can be attributed to an increase in minimum support price (MSP) as the cultivators see the prospect of better returns. As a result of good sowing season, the agriculture ministry expects a record production of pulses (20 million tonnes) in 2016-17, the highest since 1957. Though the country will still have to depend on import to meet the domestic demand, higher production is expected to soften retail prices. Though the other kharif crops, rice, coarse cereals and oilseeds, too recorded increases in their respective sown areas,

MUMBAI, Sep 3 (Agencies): Those looking to buy property in overseas destinations like Dubai will have less headroom to consolidate remittances from family members. The RBI has said that a property purchased overseas has to be in the name of all the members who are making the remittance. Despite a current account deficit, Indians have been allowed to send money abroad since 2004 under the Liberalized Remittance Scheme. The limits have been raised over the years from $25,000 annually to $2,50,000 a year now and individuals are allowed to do almost anything with the money, including buying immovable property, shares or simply gifting them to foreigners. Brokers have been marketing apartments in international destinations like Dubai, Singapore, London and New York, citing high rentals as an investment opportunity. The annual limit of $2,50,000 translates into Rs 1.67 crore per annum for an individual.

Russia. India has initiated talks with EU, as UK deciding to exit the EU, a separate FTA need to signed with the country, and others for FTAs. “Exports will grow. I wont say it will grow fast, it will grow but slow and steadily. I cannot speculate on the level (growth per centage) because the global demand is not picking up. We can only hope it will increase,” said Sitharaman. She said that many FTAs are pending and the government is in discussions with various countries. Commenting on growth in manufacturing, the initiatives which were taken under Prime Minister’s Make in India programme, has started yielding results. The manufacturing growth in 2015-16 was 9.3% as against 5.5% in 2014-15, 5.6% in 2013-14 and 6% in 2012-13. Quoting a report, she said that India is ranked as third prospective host economies for 2016-18 and as far as global competitiveness concerned the country improved by 16 positions.

Chennai, Sep 3 (Agencies): The Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday said that growth in exports will not increase substantially, but it will be slow and steady. The growth drivers would be new markets, as traditional markets have started slowing down. Speaking at the Regional Editors Conference, organised by Press Information Bureau (PIB) in Chennai, she said that in 2015-16 export was valued at $262.3 billion, lower by 15.5%. However, from June this fall was arrested and she attributed this to key developments, which was took in September last year. These are interest subvention scheme and government provided performance based incentive schemes for merchandise and services. Exports to the top 15 destinations, which are catered by Indian exporters, dropped. These includes, US, UAE, China, UK, Singapore, Germany, Belgium, France and others. the country,” he said. Rajan said macroeconomic stability is of paramount importance for India and also, the central bank must have the resources, knowledge and professionalism to act when the situation warrants. India, he said, needs a strong and independent RBI to ensure macroeconomic stability. Rajan said when the responsibilities of the RBI are fuzzy, its actions can continuously be questioned. “Instead, if the constitutional authorities outline a framework for the responsibilities of the RBI, it can take actions consistent with those responsibilities and be held to outcomes,” he said. He cited the example of recently outlined inflation target. “The inflation objectives recently set for the RBI by the government are an example of what is needed. meetings for a reason. “It is the central bank governor, unlike other regulators or government secretaries, who has command over significant policy levers and has to occasionally disagree with the most powerful people in the country.” “It is dangerous to have a de facto powerful position with low de jure status,” he said adding the RBI governor has the salary of the Cabinet Secretary and he or she is appointed by the Prime Minister in consultation with the Finance Minister. The governor’s rank in the government hierarchy is not defined but it is generally agreed that decisions will only be explained only to the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister. There is an informal understanding in India that the RBI governor has the room to make needed decisions. “In the interests of macroeconomic stability, none of this should be changed, though if these issues are ever revisited, there may be some virtue in explicitly setting the governor’s rank commensurate with the position as the most important technocrat in charge of economic policy in

walk alone. But thank God, the Reserve Bank exists,” the outgoing RBI governor said. He fur ther said that freedom to take operational decisions is important for the central bank. “However, there are always government entities that are seeking oversight over various aspects of RBI’s activities. Multiple layers of scrutiny, especially by entities that do not have the technical understanding, will only hamper decision making,” he said. Instead, the governmentappointed RBI Board, which includes ex-officio government officials as well as government appointees, should continue to play its key oversight role. “In this regard, all important RBI decisions including budgets, licences, regulation and supervision are now either approved by the Board or one of its sub-committees. Vacancies in the RBI Board, which have remained unfilled for many months now, should be filled quickly so that the full expertise and oversight of the Board can be utilised,” he said. NEW DELHI, Sep 3 (Agencies): It may take time for India to be self-sufficient in meeting its domestic demand of pulses, but the ongoing kharif sowing season has sent a reassuring signal as farmers have opted for their cultivation in a big way in many parts of the country. Latest figures, released by the Union agriculture ministry on Friday, show a significant jump in coverage area under pulses, an indication that the price of the most popular source of protein in India is set to fall post-harvest when higher production compensates for the supply side shortfall. Total sown area under pulses has increased from 106.92 lakh hectares at this time last year to 142.02 lakh hectares as on Friday, a rise of nearly 33%. If compared to the usual average sown area under pulses at this time of the season (102.01 lakh hectares),

New Delhi, Sep 3 (PTI): A day before demitting office, Reserve Bank Governor Raghuram Rajan today said the RBI’s ability to say ‘no’ to highest echelons of government has to be protected as the country needs a strong and independent central bank. Delivering a lecture on ‘independence of the central bank’ at the St. Stephens College here, the outgoing governor said the central bank cannot be free of all constraints as it has to work under a framework set by the government. Recalling his predecessor D Subbarao’s comments on policy differences with the government, Rajan said he “would go a little further” as he believes that “the Reserve Bank cannot just exist, its ability to say ‘no’ has to be protected.” “In this environment, where the central bank has to occasionally stand firm against the highest echelons of central and state governments, recall the words of my predecessor, Dr. Subbarao, when he said “I do hope the Finance Minister will one day say, ‘I am often frustrated by the Reserve Bank, so frustrated that I want to go for a walk, even if I have to

CHENNAI, Sep 3 (Agencies): In a welcome move the IRDAI, has now said that policyholders will be able to revive unit-linked insurance plans (ULIPs) even two years after the policy has lapsed. The earlier regulation insisted on payment within 90-days, following which the ULIP would lapse. The new regulation makes ULIPs on par with traditional plans, which have always enjoyed a two-year grace period for payment. Lapsed policies are a huge cost and concern for both insurers and policyholders. For 2014-15, LIC had set aside as reserve for lapsed ULIPs unlikely to be revived at 8,221.44 crore. Private insurers like Max Life and ICICI Prudential had set aside amounts of 78.24 crore and 17.74 crore respectively.

Dhaka cafe attack accomplice shot dead in B’desh Dhaka, Sep 3 (PTI): Bangladesh police today raided a militant hideout here and killed a top Islamist extremist who helped plan the Dhaka cafe siege and was the deputy of attack ‘mastermind’ Tamim Ahmed Chowdhury. The militant was killed during a raid on a house in Dhaka’s Rupnagar area and the terrorist was identified by police as top Neo-Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) leader Chowdhury’s ‘second-in-command’. Detective Branch Additional Deputy Commissioner Sanwar Hossain identified the deceased as ‘Murad’ or ‘Major Murad’ as referred to by the members of his outfit. “We raided the house on information that he had rented it,” Hossain was quoted as saying by BD News. Joint Commissioner Abdul Baten said police raided the house around 9:30 PM local time. Three policemen, including the officer in charge of the nearby police station, were also wounded in the gunfight with the terrorist.

Hanoi, Sep 3 (PTI): Vietnam’s top leaders today lauded India’s position on the disputed South China Sea (SCS) and sought its participation in oil and gas sectors of the Communist nation, as they hailed the upgradation of bilateral ties to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Vietnam appreciates India’s principled position on the South China Sea issue, Communist Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong told Prime Minister Narendra Modi when the latter called on him, sources said. “We must also intensify our coordination in regional and multilateral fora,” he told Modi, who reiterated that India always stood as a friend with Vietnam throughout history. “It would be rare to find such a relationship which has lasted 2,000 years,” he told Trong and recalled the Vietnamese leader’s visit to India in 2013. China is involved in a raging dispute with the Philippines, Vietnam, Taiwan, Malaysia and Brunei over ownership of territory in the SCS, a busy waterway through which India’s 50 per cent trade passes.
Two Balkan countries contest over Saint Teresa’s heritage Skopje, Sep 3 (AFP): When Pope Francis canonises Mother Teresa tomorrow, two Balkan countries will be celebrating the sainthood of a woman they both fiercely claim as their own. While she is famed for her work with the poor in the Indian city of Kolkata, the late missionary’s origins have been hotly disputed in southeastern Europe, where she grew up. Born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu in 1910 in multi-cultural Skopje - then part of the Ottoman Empire and now capital of the Republic of Macedonia - Mother Teresa had an ethnic Albanian mother whose family came from Kosovo. Her father’s roots are more debated: most people, especially in Albania, say he too was ethnically Albanian, although some Macedonians have argued he was a Vlach, another Balkan ethnic group. The squabble exposes old ethnic rivalries in the Balkans, with neighbours Albania and Macedonia taking competitive pride in the Nobel Peace Prize winner - both countries have statues, roads, hospitals
G20 summit to focus on economic growth, trade Hangzhou, Sep 3 (PTI): Global economic slowdown, raising protectionism, structural reforms to expand global trade and creation of jobs, innovation, inclusive growth and climate finance are the key topics to be discussed at the two-day G20 summit starting in this picturesque Chinese city tomorrow. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will join US President Barack Obama, Chinese President Xi Jinping along with other top world leaders to discuss global efforts needed to boost economic growth and trade. “India will engage constructively on all the issues before us and work towards finding solutions and taking forward the agenda for a robust, inclusive and sustainable international economic order that uplifts the socio-economic conditions of people across the world, especially those who need it most in developing countries,” Prime Minister Modi has said in his tweet on the G20 summit. Modi, who is in Vietnam on a maiden visit, will arrive here tonight to attend the summit. Ahead of the G20 summit, leaders of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) will meet to finalise their strategy for highlighting issues exercising emerging economies. Heads of the five countries will also be meeting in Goa next month during the BRICS summit to work more coordinated strategy in the face of global economic slowdown and to counter protectionist measures.

On more than 2,000 occasions classified material was exposed on her private server, including highly sensitive Top-Secret information and intelligence,” said Jason Miller, senior communications advisor to the Trump Campaign. “Clinton’s reckless conduct and dishonest attempts to avoid accountability show she cannot be trusted with the presidency and its chief obligation as commander-in-chief of the US armed forces,” Miller said. The FBI has now closed its investigation into her using personal email hosted on a private server as secretary of state during the first term of Barack Obama administration.

Despite the political differences, emerging economies - India and China - are trying to work out more closer cooperation to oppose protectionism from the developed countries, increasing globalisation and expansion of global trade through structural reforms to create more jobs for their massive populations. “I see a very good opportunity for a coordinated action between India and China,” Secretary Economic Affairs Shaktikanta Das told his Chinese counterpart Vice Minister for Finance Shi Yaobin during the last month’s India-China Finance Dialogue. “It is very important to point out that the idea of inclusiveness has been retained and has been given greater focus in G20 agenda under Chinese Presidency,” he said. “Very rightly and in a timely manner, the Chinese Presidency is also giving importance to new industrial revolution on innovation as main drivers of economic growth in the current century,” said Das, who took part in several G20 meetings. While the Chinese security agencies mounted a massive security operation including heavy scrutiny of the guests in top hotels, the majority of the city’s over nine million population either left for holidays out of the city or stayed indoors reportedly on instructions to ensure a smooth summit. In many parts of the city, only the authorised G20 vehicles were seen plying on the well laid out roads besides few other vehicles.
and other monuments in her name. “Mother Teresa was born in Skopje but she never declared herself a Macedonian,” said Albanian historian Moikom Zeqo, author of a study on the nun’s links to Albania. She “always spoke about her Albanian origins and her universal mission,” Zeqo told AFP. Macedonians, however, suggest her birthplace is all important. “We call her ‘Skopjanka’ (citizen of Skopje) because we know she is ours,” said Valentina Bozinovska, director of the national commission for relations with religious communities. The region changed dramatically in Teresa’s lifetime, with the end of Turkish rule, two world wars, the rise and fall of communism and Yugoslavia, and the nationalistic Balkan wars of the 1990s. Teresa was baptised Roman Catholic, a minority religion in Skopje, where she spent her childhood and decided early on she would take up a religious life. She left home aged 18 for a spell at an Irish
abbey before travelling to India in 1929. In the 1930s her mother and sister moved to Tirana in Albania, where communist dictator Enver Hoxha barred Teresa from visiting. She eventually made her first of three trips to Albania in 1989, after Hoxha’s death and a year before communism began to fall, to visit the graves of her family and the house where they lived for many years. Genc Zajmi, 78, still resides in the building and recalls Teresa’s loving letters to her mother, insisting the nun never forgot her Albanian roots. Muslim-majority Albania celebrates a public holiday on the anniversary of Teresa’s beatification in 2003. As for Teresa, she was quoted describing herself both as a “Skopjanka” and as an Albanian “by blood”, but insisting she belonged to the world. Her adopted home country of India - which gave her citizenship in 1951 - flatly refused Albania’s request in 2009 to hand over her remains, saying she was “resting in her own country, her own land”.
India supports freedom of navigation and over flight, and unimpeded commerce, based on the principles of international law, as reflected notably in the UNCLOS (United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea). I n d i a b e l i eve s t h a t states should resolve disputes through peaceful means without threat or use of force and exercise self-restraint in the conduct of activities that could complicate or escalate disputes affecting peace and stability. The Prime Minister said areas such as cyber security and information technology would benefit from the creation of a task force and help the two sides solve future problems. Trong agreed that IndiaVietnam relations were time tested and very durable. He said he had visited India twice in 2010 and 2013 and both visits had left very good impressions. Noting that India is a major country with unique and age old civilisation and culture, he said Vietnamese people had never forgotten India’s strong support during Vietnam’s struggle for independence, sources said.
Pak ex-minister blames India for Balochistan Islamabad, Sep 3 (PTI): India has created “an East Pakistan like situation” in Pakistan’s restive southwestern province of Balochistan by helping the separatists active in the resource- rich tribal region, former interior minister Rehman Malik has alleged. Rehman who was minister from 2008-13 in Asif Ali Zardari’s Pakistan Peoples Party government told media that India was helping separatists in the province. “I feel that an East Pakistan-like situation is being created in Balochistan as the role of Mukti Bahini is being played by India in collaboration with Afghanistan and duly backed by the West,” he said. Rehman said the role of India in the unrest in Balochistan “is not a hidden story,” and the previous PPP government had taken up the issue of Balochistan with India. “We had taken up the matter with former Indian home minister P Chidambaram and he had assured us that they would take notice of it, but later the five-year term of our government ended and we could not pursue the matter,” he said.
Samarkand (Uzbekistan), Sep 3 (AFP): Uzbekistan bade farewell to President Islam Karimov at a high-security funeral today, after his death plunged the country into the greatest period of uncertainty in its post-Soviet history with no clear successor to the ironfisted ruler. Karimov, 78, was pronounced dead late Friday after he suffered a stroke last weekend and fell into a coma, authorities said, following days of speculation that officials were delaying making his death public. The Islamic funeral for the strongman -- who dominated the ex-Soviet nation for some 27 years -- was being held in his home city of Samarkand, southwestern Uzbekistan, on Saturday and the country will begin three days of mourning. An AFP journalist in the famed Silk Road city -- which houses the mausoleum of feared 14th century warlord Tamerlane -- said police had cordoned off the centre and were not letting ordinary citizens or cars through. Despite his brutal quarter-century rule, which earned him a reputation abroad as one of the region’s most savage despots who ruthlessly

Three security guards were also wounded. In a statement, the Van governor’s office said the condition of those in hospital

Thirteen PKK fighters were killed by Turkish jets around Tendurek mountains in Van province, the office said, while Anadolu reported that the operation supported by the air force continued. Obama arrives in China for final visit as president
Barack Obama Hangzhou, Sep 3 (AFP): US President Barack Obama arrived in China today for his final visit as president, intent on cementing the “pivot” to Asia undertaken during his administration. Obama was welcomed by an honour guard as Air Force One landed in the eastern city of Hangzhou, which is hosting the G20 summit of global economic powers. tight security, with a quarter of its residents encouraged to leave and potential troublemakers detained as the ruling Communist Party takes every measure to prevent any possible wrinkles. Later, Obama will hold private talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the city’s picturesque West Lake, dotted with islands and a favoured subject for Chinese artists. The meeting is expected to focus on the fight against global warming, after China today ratified the Paris climate accord and with the US tipped to follow suit, taking the pact a giant step forward. Tackling climate change has become a bright spot in often difficult relations between the two powers. But Xi and Obama will also discuss tensions in the South China Sea, where Beijing’s territorial claims, and its construction of artificial islands in disputed waters, have set the region on edge. Tomorrow, Obama is to hold talks with Theresa May for the first time since she became British prime minister in the wake of the landmark vote to leave the European Union.

Authorities said Karimov’s coffin would be displayed in a city square for people to pay their last respects before he is buried in a nearby cemetery later Saturday next to other family members. Eyewitnesses told AFP that they had seen the vehicles carrying the coffin head towards Samarkand’s UNESCO World Heritage site centre but that the event was open only to guests with official invitations. Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev flew in for the funeral, along with leaders from former Soviet republics including Tajik President Emomali Rakhmon, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov and the prime ministers of Kyrgyzstan, Belarus and Kazakhstan. Loyalist Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyoyev heads the organising committee for the funeral, in a sign that he could be the frontrunner to take over long-term from Karimov. Under Uzbek law, senate head Nigmatulla Yuldashev has now become acting president until early elections are held.
Islamic militants blamed for deadly Philippine blast Davao (Philippines), Sep 3 (AFP): Philippine authorities today blamed a notorious group of Islamic militants for the bombing of a night market in President Rodrigo Duterte’s home town that killed at least 14 people. An improvised explosive device tore through the bustling market in the heart of Davao city and close to one of its top hotels just before 11:00pm (local time) yesterday. Authorities said the Abu Sayyaf, a small band of militants that has declared allegiance to the Islamic State group, most likely carried out the attack in response to a military offensive launched against it last week. “The office of the president texted and confirmed that was an Abu Sayyaf retaliation. For the city government side, we are working on that it is an Abu Sayyaf retaliation,” Davao mayor Sara Duterte, who is also the president’s daughter, told CNN Philippines. National Defence Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said the Abu Sayyaf had struck back after suffering heavy casualties on its stronghold of Jolo island about 900 kilometres from Davao.

T
heatre is a par t of human civilization and this practice has preserved the tradition and culture in all society. For example, our practice of rituals, hunting, celebration of various festivals, making our unique costumes etc is a skill. These practices, being a part of our everyday life, we may not look and consider it as a theatre. But all these are an expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, which is a theatre in itself. Today, many contem-
porary performing arts have emerged over the centuries and conserve our culture according to the changing trend of time. Theatre has added life, character and colour to the traditional values. Theatre as a performing art has not been explored in Nagaland in the real sense. Theatre culture is very strong in our neighboring state such as Assam and Manipur. It has been one of the main tools in preserving their rich ethnic culture. In Nagaland, performing art or theatre is
still limited to dance, music, fashion and other alien culture. This is due to the lack of both theoretical and practical knowledge on theatre. If developed, Naga Theatre has so much of potential to weave all the art forms and evolve a theatrical arena to preserve and refine our rich culture. This production oriented workshop aims to develop a theatrical language through the famous legendary Ao folklore Etiben and Jina, which is the Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet of the Ao Naga tribe.
Every ethnic community has their own beauty of narration and uniqueness in its form and oral tradition elements. The production will device a production on the Etiben and Jina story using the rich folk songs, dance ballads, etc and showcase our culture. It will also incorporate all the theatrical elements such as light, sound, costume, make-up and other advance theatrical equipments. It aims to encourage theatre in Nagaland and to the other regional theatre and to connect to the main stream theatre. Over the years the Naga tradition values is fading and theatre as an art form has the potential to revitalize by evolving a contemporary language. There by, carrying on our tradition with change of time. The workshop will also invite different cultural experts of different tribes and create space to interact, learn and engage with eminent personality. Alongside, conserving out traditional performances the workshop will initiate the participants/students to discover their inner being, create space to explore their skills and to develop and nurture it. The workshop is organized and sponsored by NEZCC in association with Hill Theatre, Nagaland.

The AIMPLB on Friday defended the practice of triple talaq and polygamy, professing that polygamy is a social need and a blessing and not a curse for women. “I condemn Muslim personal law board in the strongest words for justifying instant divorce. They are the worst enemies of their own community,” he tweeted on Saturday. Saying that “polygamy is a blessing, not a curse for women”, the AIMPLB, in its affidavit filed in the Supreme Court on Friday, said that if the option of polygamy was not available to a husband, then he may divorce his existing wife or indulge in illicit affairs.

India beat Puerto Rico 4-1in friendly of his Jacob Conde and found Jeje inside the box. However, the Chennaiyin FC striker’s shot went inches over. he did have to leave Arsenal, go to a big club like Roma. Get some experience abroad, I think that would have been great for him and would have been great for the England team as well,” Scholes was quoted as saying by Sky Sports. “Just because he is going to Bournemouth, doesn’t mean he is going to play all the time. He has to perform whatever club you are at, whether you are at Bournemouth, Arsenal, Manchester United or Roma,” he added. “You still have to perform to play first team football. I’m sure there are other players at Bournemouth who are saying ‘I’m going to be playing instead of Jack -- I want his place’.” The legendary defender further added saying, “It always comes back to whether he is fit. I don’t know how his ankles are -- I know he struggles with them. “If he stays fit then there is no doubt he is the top player there. But he should be playing for a top three or four club in England and that is what he should be aiming for. I just worry a little that he has set his sights too low.”

London, Sep 3 (IANS): Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has questioned Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere’s ambition after his deadline day loan move to English football club Bournemouth, despite receiving offers from Italian Serie A clubs. Wilshere’s career has been dogged by injuries over recent years, keeping him out of all but three of Arsenal’s English Premier League (EPL) games last season. He still managed to make England’s squad for Euro 2016, though, as an errorstrewn substitute cameo in the humiliating last-16 defeat to Iceland did little to justify the 24-year-old’s selection. However, the 24-year-old was left out of Sam Allardyce’s maiden World Cup qualifier against Slovakia this week. Scholes lamented the fact that links to a move to Serie A did not come to fruition for Wilshere, who he warned should expect no guarantees under Bournemouth coach Eddie Howe. “I would have liked to have seen him, if

New Delhi, Sep 3 (Agencies): Some of India’s premier athletes now find themselves in the middle of a fresh controversy. According to a report in the Hindustan Times, Li Ning (official apparel sponsor of the Indian contingent) has brought it to Indian Olympic Association’s notice that several Indian athletes violated a sponsor agreement during the recently concluded Rio Olympics. The list includes silver medalist PV Sindhu, gymnast Dipa Karmakar and Yogeshwar Dutt. Dipa wore a Shiv Naresh kit for her routines but then switched to Li Ning after being informed by her team about the violation. Wrestler Dutt’s singlet too featured a SAIL logo during his only bout at the event. Li Ning had signed a deal of over Rs 3 crore with IOA for the Rio Games. “I’ll not blame the players, but we have written to the IOA about these violations,” Mahender Kapoor, Li Ning’s managing director (South Asia) told the newspaper. “We have received complaints from Li Ning about a few violations. We had spoken to the federation (Badminton Association of India) about the complaints. We did our job as we informed the federation.

Mumbai, Sep 3 (Agencies): Mumbai Football Arena was witness to one of the best displays by India as they thrashed the higher ranked Puerto Rico side 4-1 with goals from Narayan Das, Sunil Chhetri, Jeje Lalpekhlua and Jackichand Singh. Emmanuel Sanchez had put the visitors into the lead from the spot in the eighth minute. It was a commanding display from the home side as they bounced back after conceding an early goal to Emmanuel Sanchez and produced a scintillating display of football in the financial capital which hosted its first international friendly in over 60 years. Chhetri won a free-kick in the 24th minute when Emmanuel D’Andrea was stopping the striker from getting to the ball. The Bengaluru FC striker’s free-kick struck the inside of the far post and went in, much to the delight of the home fans, as goalkeeper Santana was left stranded. MUMBAI, Sep 3 (Agencies): Firm in its belief that the financial value of bilateral series between full member boards is fast diminishing, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has put the idea of a twotier Test structure on its agenda for its meeting in Dubai on Sept 6.The BCCI, along with five other Test-playing nations, are likely to reject the proposal. The ICC will convene a special meeting at its headquarters On Sept 6 and 7 to continue the discussions that took place at its annual general meeting in Edinburgh this July . The proposal to “shake up” the structure in which Test cricket is currently played involves setting up a two-division league system which will comprise seven teams in the top tier and five in the bottom, with Afghanistan and Ireland set to be involved as leading Associate teams. At Tuesday’s meeting, the proposal is likely to see the BCCI pitted against the likes of Cricket Australia, New Zealand Cricket, Cricket South Africa and the England Wales Cricket Board.
“We will field a strong team. And we will win,” he insisted. Home qualifiers against Czech Republic and Northern Ireland, a friendly away to Italy and a trip to minnows San Marino will follow in October and November. Neuer said four wins from their four qualifiers in 2016 are expected. Loew has an embarrassment of young riches waiting in the wings. Rising stars like winger Leroy Sane, for whom Manchester City reportedly paid £37 million ($48m, 43m euros), and Borussia Dortmund’s defensive midfielder Julian Weigl are also still only 20. The same goes for Schalke’s attacking midfielder Meyer, who captained the Germany team in Rio and scored the senior side’s opening goal against Finland. He turns 21 on September 18. Of Loew’s trusted core, Toni Kroos and Thomas Mueller are still only 26, while Jerome Boateng, Mats Hummels and Mesut Ozil are 27. Of the other World Cup winners, only Benedikt Hoewedes, Sami Khedira and Neuer will be the wrong side of 30 when the next World Cup kicks off in June 2018.

Djokovic wins in 32 minutes; Nadal breezes
Novak Djokovic
NEW YORK, Sep 3 (Agenc i e s ) : N ova k D j o k ov i c reached the US Open last 16 in just 32 minutes Friday when Mikhail Youzhny retired injured before fellow two-time winner Rafael Nadal also made the fourth round for the first time in three years. Defending champion Djokovic was 4-2 ahead in the first set when Russian 34-yearold Youzhny called it quits suffering from a left hamstring injury. The outcome completed a bizarre first week for world number one Djokovic. After labouring over four sets to beat Jerzy Janowicz on Monday, he was handed a walkover into the third round when Czech opponent Jiri Vesely withdrew from their second round clash with an arm injury. “I have never had this happen before in my Grand Slam career, getting a walkover and the next match lasting just half an hour,” said Djokovic.
DDTTA informs Dimapur, Sep 3 (NPN): Dimapur District Table Tennis Association (DDTTA) will organize selection camp for table tennis players for the forthcoming Nagaland Open and Inter-District Table Tennis Championship from September 28 to October 1 at the Multi-purpose Indoor Stadium from 4 p.m. onwards. The players will be selected for the following categories: junior, youth, men’s, women and team events. DDTTA has informed all interested table tennis players within Dimapur to get themselves registered with the Association to be eligible to participate in the selection camp and also to participate in the tournament. They can contact the technical secretaries for the same in the stadium from 4 p.m onwards and collect the registration forms and register themselves by paying the prescribed registration fees.
The top seed next faces Britain’s world number 84 Kyle Edmund who stunned John Isner of the United States 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7/5) to make a Slam fourth round for the first time. Nadal reached the fourth round for the first time since 2013 -- the year of his last New York title -- with a 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 win over Russia’s Andrey Kuznetsov. “Andrey is always a tough opponent, he returns well and has good shots from the baseline,” said fourth seed Nadal who faces France’s Lucas Pouille for a quarter-final slot. “I had a fantastic first set, a little trouble with my serve in the second but the third was key so I’m very happy.” Djokovic’s very brief encounter had been preceded on Arthur Ashe Stadium by women’s eighth seed Madison Keys pulling off an epic comeback to beat Japan’s Naomi Osaka. the tournament on Monday when she completed victory over compatriot Alison Riske at 1:48am. On Friday, the 21-yearold was involved in more drama when she rallied from 1-5 down in the final set to defeat Osaka 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (7/3). The 18-year-old Osaka was so traumatised by her failure to convert her dominance into victory that she broke down in tears as she twice tried and failed to serve for the victory. Jack Sock, the American 26th seed, reached the fourth round for the first time by knocking out 2014 champion Marin Cilic 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 in tie where he did not face a single break point. The 23-year-old Sock, whose last two appearances at the US Open had ended in retirements, goes on to face French ninth seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Tsonga, a two-time quarter-finalist, made the last 16
UEFA announces candidates for presidential election Geneva, Sep 3 (IANS): The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has announced its final approved list of three candidates running for the presidential post in Europes governing body of football. “UEFA has been informed by the FIFA Review Committee that all of the candidates running for election at the UEFA Congress on September 14, 2016 in Athens have successfully passed the eligibility checks conducted by FIFA,” UEFA announced in its statement on Friday. “Aleksander Ceferin, Michael van Praag and Angel Maria Villar -- who will be running for the position of UEFA President and would thus automatically become FIFA vice-president -- have all complied with the eligibility requirements,” the statement added. While van Praag is the president of the Royal Dutch Football Association, Villar
serves as the Spanish football body president. Villar is also the acting UEFA president. UEFA will be electing its new president on September 14 in Athens and all candidates wishing to run for the presidency had to submit their applications by July 20, reports Tass. Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko, who is also the president of the Russian Football Union (RFU), announced in June that the RFU would vote for the candidacy of Ceferin, the head of the Football Association of Slovenia. Frenchman Michel Platini, who is considered to be one of the greatest footballers of all time, had been at the helm of UEFA since 2007 until he was suspended earlier this year. Kerber crushes Bellis to progress
Angelique Kerber, enjoying a breakout season that has her challenging for world number one, crushed 17-yearold American qualifier CiCi Bellis 6-1 6-1 to reach the fourth round of the US Open on Friday. Bellis, the second youngest player in the women’s field, won three qualifying matches and beat two players within the top 65 in the main draw but her dream run ended in a flood of Kerber winners and a rash of errors from the over-hitting teenager. The second-seeded German took 55 minutes to close out the Day Five program at Flushing Meadows, nearly doubling the 33 points won by Bellis as she notched her WTA Tour-leading 50th match win of the season.
Delhi Dynamos sign defender Ruben
New Delhi, Sep 3 (IANS): Delhi Dynamos on Saturday announced the signing of former Celta Vigo and Real Madrid defender Ruben Gonzalez as their second marquee footballer for the third edition of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL). Ruben was part of the Real Madrid squad that won the Champions League in 20012002 and he then went on to win the Spanish La Liga in 2002-2003. He played more than 70 matches for Celta. On signing for Delhi Dynamos FC, 34-year-old Ruben said: “I am really excited to join Delhi Dynamos, having played for most of my career in Spain and Germany, I am looking forward to playing in Asia for the first time.” Speaking on Ruben’s signing, Dynamos Head Coach Gianluca Zambrotta said: “We are glad to have Ruben Gonzalez in our team. He will strengthen our defence and he will definitely be one of the leaders on and off the pitch for the club.
“Congrats to CiCi. She played a great tournament and for sure she will have a great future,” the gracious Kerber said in an on-court interview at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Bellis was far from dejected after the one-sided defeat that came after victories over Viktorija Golubic of Switzerland and fellow-American Shelby Rogers. “I think today was the best experience I’ve ever had in tennis, playing her today on Arthur Ashe Stadium,” the Californian said. “She’s one of the best, I mean the best player right now on the tour besides Serena. “Her ground strokes are perfect. I hope to one day be able to play like her.” Next up for Kerber is Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic, a 6-3 6-4 winner over 22nd seed Elina Svitolina of Ukraine. Kerber and Kvitova have split their eight career meetings. Outside of the Williams sisters, Petra Kvitova is the only multiple women’s Grand Slam title winner in the US Open and is pursuing a third major on a diet of movies, napping and as little practice as possible. The big-hitting Czech, who captured the Wimbledon crown in 2011 and 2014, is in the second week of a major for the first time this year. It’s been achieved without dropping a set and by studiously avoiding as often as possible the sometimes tortuous trip from Manhattan across the East River to Queens. It was a plan which worked well for Kvitova 12 months ago when she made the quarter-finals, her best run by far in New York, a city which has taken its time to convince her of its charms.

4th NE Zone Shooting C’ship concludes
4th NEZSC organizing committee members, judges and officials during the closing ceremony at Aries Sports Complex, Bamunpukhuri-I, Dimapur, Saturday.
Staff Reporter DIMAPUR, SEP 3 (NPN): The 4th North East Zone Shooting Championship (NEZSC) which begun on August 29 concluded following the prize distribution and closing ceremony held at Aries Sports Complex, Bamunpukhuri-I, Dimapur, Saturday. Speaking as the chief guest, Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission for Manipur and Mizoram secretary-Richard Zothakima, said shooting was such a game where an individual player could win numerous medals as the game has a host of categories. Challenging the gathered shooters, Richard said, “If Abhinav Bindra can win gold, why not you”. He added that the North East must produce gold medal winners.
Referring to the officials and judges as facilitators, he said the shooters were the VVIPs and the ‘seeds’ for great shooters of tomorrow. Schweinsteiger not part of United’s Europa plans Manchester, Sep 3 (IANS): A day after Bastian Schweinsteiger was included in Manchester Uniteds English Premier League (EPL) squad for the first half of the season, the just-retired Germany international was on Saturday left out of Uniteds Europa League plans. Schweinsteiger, 32, is the only player named in United’s EPL squad who has not been included for European football. The 2014 World Cup winner is yet to play a single minute of football for the club since Jose Mourinho took over as manager but opted to stay at Old Trafford rather than leave during the transfer window. “Of course, my absolute dream would be to play for Manchester United and help them reach the goals they have,” Schweinsteiger said earlier this week. “Of course, we have had talks and I have no problem
with Jose Mourinho. We had a good chat and he told me his side of things and I also know what I want. We’ve got to wait and see how things go in September and October, but there is respect between us and that’s important for me. I’m certainly not going to stop playing football.” Schweinsteiger missed out because 21 places are ava i l a b l e f o r n o n - ” c l u b trained” players in a Europa League squad. Man United have 22 with the former Germany international. United are able to name only two “club trained” players -- those who have spent three years at the club between the ages of 15 and 21 -- in their A squad. Wayne Rooney and Jesse Lingard fall into that category, which means United can only name 23 players in their A squad. First team players Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw qualify for the B list
Bastian Schweinsteiger
-- players born after 1994 who have been registered for a continuous period of two years. United have been drawn in Group A alongside Fenerbahce, Feyenoord and Zorya Luhansk. They begin their campaign away at Feyenoord on Sept. 15.
A List: Bailly, Blind, Carrick, Darmian, De Gea, Depay, El-Fitouri, Fellaini, Herrera, Ibrahimovic, Johnstone, Jones, Lingard, Martial, Mata, Mkhitaryan, Pogba, Rojo, Romero, Rooney, Schneiderlin, Smalling, Valencia, Young
Hamilton takes Italian GP pole BCCI miffed as ICC allocates $135 mn for CT in England
Lewis Hamilton (C) celebrates after setting the fastest time with second placed Nico Rosberg (L) and third placed Sebastian Vettel. (AP/PTI) Monza, Sep 3 (Agencies): Lewis Hamilton will start the Italian Grand Prix on pole position, but his advantage could be compromised by starting on a damaged tyre. Hamilton set the fastest time in Q2 at Monza on Saturday, but flat-spotted his front-right tyre and was unable to set a quicker lap in the session — which determines which rubber drivers will start the race with. Leading the championship by nine points, Hamilton could apply to replace the tyre if it is seriously damaged — as he did successfully earlier this season in Baku — but his opening stint could be compromised if stewards decide safety is not an issue. The Silver Arrows were in a class of their own at the
‘Temple of Speed’, easing to the top of the timesheets on harder compounds than their main rivals Ferrari and Red Bull in Q2 and Sunday will surely be a straight shootout between Hamilton and Rosberg. Hamilton may well be on even another level to his stable-mate, clocking a fastest time of one minute, 21.135 seconds, almost half a second quicker than Rosberg, and taking top spot in every session. The omens are strong for Hamilton, who has won from pole in each of the last two seasons — the streak of pole-sitting victories at Monza stretches back to 2010. Behind Mercedes come Ferrari duo Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen, with the Scuderia desperate for a strong
weekend in front of their passionate fans in the midst of a dismal season so far. A strong start could put the red cars ahead off the line, but Vettel and Raikkonen need errors from Hamilton or Rosberg if they are to have a hope of victory. Mercedes power helped Valtteri Bottas take fifth ahead of Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen - who should be well out of the way of Vettel and Raikkonen after their squabbles in Belgium last week. The Mercedes-assisted Force India pair of Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg are next on the grid, with Esteban Gutierrez to start 10th after taking a Haas car into Q3 for the first time in their short F1 history.
NEW DELHI, Sep 3 (PTI): The BCCI has expressed its reservations with the International Cricket Council’s decision to earmark a budget of USD 135 million (approx) as the organisational cost for Champions Trophy scheduled in the United Kingdom from June 1-18, next year. The budget is a three-fold increase from the USD 45 million that was allocated to the BCCI by the ICC for the World T20 held from March 8 to April 3, earlier this year. Whenever ICC conducts any tournament, a certain budget is allocated to the host country. The host country appoints LOC (Local Organising Committee), which is responsible for all the expenditure that may occur while hosting the tournament. What many in BCCI find baffling is the huge cost escalation for a 19-day tournament in UK considering it will host only 15 matches compared to the World T20 in India which was a 27-day event with 58 matches in all (35 men’s and 23 women’s matches). Also there are reports that the ICC will be building an office in London which will be handed over to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) once the tournament is over. The draft budget for Champions Trophy 2017 was circulated by ICC to its members for review at the ICC Annual Conference held in Edinburgh in May-June.
Accordingly, the BCCI has sent a letter to the ICC “expressing their reservations about the budget” and the matter is expected to be discussed on the sidelines of the ICC Chief Executives meeting to be held in Dubai on September 6 and 7. A senior BCCI official, who played a significant role in organisation of the 2011 World Cup and ICC World T20 in 2016, told PTI: “It is strange but when the ICC World T20 was held in India, the BCCI organised a tournament of longer duration at 1/3rd cost. “Even if we take into account that the costs will be more in UK as expenditure will be in GBP (Pounds) but in India, there are more overheads including logistics as you need to take flights from one city to another which is not the case in England.” The construction of a new office is also something that is being questioned. “Every member has right to ask as to why all members should pay for office of one member. Looking at the far bigger picture, every penny saved is every penny earned. This money should be used judiciously for development of cricket.” As per trends of the various major ICC tournaments that have been held in the past decade, BCCI has found that budget allocation has been significantly less compared to what the countries have got.
