PWD (R&B) Wokha informs DIMAPUR, SEP 6 (NPN): In view of the unstable and weak condition of Mikhe Bailey Bridge (steel bridge), located 52km from Wokha town along Wokha-Bokajan road, the Public Works Department (Road & Bridges) Wokha has advised the commuters to take precautionary measures while travelling along that bridge especially heavy vehicles above four tons. In a press release, PWD (R&B) Wokha executive engineer, Amyingo N. Ngullie, cautioned that the department would not be held responsible for any untoward incidents/accident that could occur on violation. Meanwhile, the PWD (R&B) Wokha has requested the public to bear with the inconvenience.
station demanding that all accused be handed over to them. The vastly outnumbered police at the P.S. could not stop the huge crowd from entering the police station premises. However, situation was brought under control only after members of the All Nagaland Taxi Association (ANTA) intervened. According to various accounts, late Swuduve leaves behind his wife and children. The victim was re-
plice, Daniel Yimchunger then joined Toishe and hit Nakro on the head with a club made of bamboo root and killing him. The duo later dumped the body below the marketing shed and proceeded towards Tseminyu. While on the way, Daniel called-up Avito Khotso, who was in Kohima at that time, to come to Tseminyu. After Avito’s arrival, all three accused proceeded towards Satakha where Toishe stayed back with local taxi and the other two-Daniel and Avito returned to Kohima on September 3, police stated. During the search operation in Kohima, police also seized 83 numbers of blank demand notes of vehicle Tax (2017-2018) and three numbers of detached blank information slips for union traders and contractors (yearly tax of 20172018) both issued by NSCN (K) from the house of Daniel Yimchunger. Further, one Maruti Alto 800 (white colour NL01H/9287) belonging to the third accused Avito Khotso used for proceeding to Satakha and back to Kohima was also seized. (Cont’d on p-8)
end of a rash of violence unleashed by lynch mobs, especially in the northern States. The court directed the Centre to respond to a submission by senior advocate Indira Jaising for Gandhi that the Centre cannot wash their hands of its constitutional responsibility under Article 256 to instruct the States to take “necessary” steps in law to save innocent human lives from fury of the mobs. The court said the Centre should reply to this argument made by Gandhi in the spirit of “co-operative federalism”. “Non-violence is the founding faith of this country. The Centre cannot turn its back on the violence. The States have the responsibility to lodge FIRs against these vigilantes,” Jaising submitted. “You have to stop it (violence),” Chief Justice Misra told Additional Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the four northern States. The court asked Mehta to take instructions from the Centre, to specify its role under Article 256 and the steps it would take from its side to prevent any future incidents
of violence. Pointing out that most of the violent incidents had occurred on highways, Jaising said the States should take steps to initiate highway patrolling. The court directed the Chief Secretaries and the Directors General of Police of States to consult each other and respond to the court. The Centre shall also indicate its views on this issue. The court posted the case for hearing on September 22. In the previous hearing, the Centre said ending vigilantism and violence by cow protection groups is a ‘State subject’ and the Centre has no role to play, though it condemns all forms of violence. A bunch of petitions led by Congress activist Tehseen Poonawalla had sought criminal action against cow vigilante groups whose recent rampages and lynchings have seen communal tensions rise in the country. The petitions had also sought a direction to the Central and State governments to pull down all the videos of violence uploaded by cow vigilante groups from social media sites.

NEW DELHI, SEP 6 (AGENCIES): The Supreme Court on Wednesday asked all States and Union Territories to appoint nodal police officers district-wise to crack down on and prosecute cow vigilante groups that engage in violence and mayhem, reports The Hindu. Four BJP-ruled States — Haryana, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Gujarat — accepted the apex court’s suggestion to appoint dedicated nodal police officers in the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) to prevent cow vigilantes or gau rakshaks, as they call themselves, from “taking the law or becoming the law unto themselves.” A three-judge Bench of Chief Justive Dipak Misra, Amitava Roy, and A.M. Khanwilkar was hearing an intervention by Mahatma Gandhi’s great-grandson, Tushar Gandhi, about the lack of responsibility and accountability shown by the Centre and State administrations even as cow vigilantes wreaked havoc and resorted to murder in broad daylight in the name of the cow. both Air India and IndiGo airlines to consider having additional flights and to ensure that the flights were operated without any disruption. CMD Air India, Rajiv Bansal assured that Dimapur–Kolkata flights would be operated without any disruption while adding that he would look into the feasibility of operating another flight to Delhi via Guwahati. Zeliang further pointed out to the IndiGo officials that the discon-
tinuation of Dimapur-Delhi flight via Kolkata has caused immense hardship to passengers from Dimapur. Passengers are made to change flights at Kolkata which causes inconvenience and wastage of time, he told the IndiGo officials. The IndiGo officials while appreciating the chief minister for the continued support to IndiGo air operations, assured that the direct return flight would be resumed by end of September. Both Air India CMD and IndiGo officials assured that they would do everything possible to improve the services for Nagaland. Later, the chief minister also visited the newly constructed Nagaland House building at RK Puram, New Delhi and interacted with the construction firm, Confoss Constructions. The construction is expected to be completed soon.
DIMAPUR, SEP 6 (NPN): Nagaland Governor, PB Acharya, on Wednesday called upon the citizens to become nodal agents of change and also to be the change. Speaking on the occasion of the 24th Foundation Day celebration of the Nagaland University (NU) at Lumami Headquarters, Acharya, who is also the chief rector of NU, called upon the gathering to introspect and retrospect how far the university has reached. According to an official bulletin, Acharya said the university was conceived and established with vision by leaders for brighter and greater future. In this regard, the governor asked whether the vision was on the right track and said if not, then, it was time to change the mindset and go for more research in order to develop and prosper in peace.
Maintaining that the fruit of prosperity should reach everyone equally, the governor reminded the students that knowledge once acquired should be passed on. He also asked the students to connect with the people as knowledge achiev-
ers should also be givers. Acharya also stressed on the government’s Look East Policy and said it was for more development of the north eastern states of the country, adding Nagaland was also one of the beneficiaries. Earlier, NU vice chan-
cellor, Prof. Pardeshi Lal, delivered welcome address. Short speeches were also given by Nagaland University Teacher’s Association (NUTA), Nagaland University Non-Teaching Association and Post Graduate Students Union [PGSU (L)]. (Cont’d on p-8)

office of the chief minister in 2014, appeared to have been “suffering from an endless bout of delirium replete with hallucination with a large dose of fantasy added regularly.” Further, alleging that Rio also seemed to have “amnesia”, the NPF central media & press bureau said if he could remember his experience of 2015, Noke Wangnao would have been the president of the NPF if majority of legislators of the party were competent enough to appoint the president of the political party they belong to; and Kaito Aye would have been the chief minister with Kuzholuzo Nienu as the chief whip of the NPF if majority of the legislators had the authority to elect the whip of the political party they belong to. The M&PB further went on to remind Rio that the NPF Central party was
a responsible political party duly registered with the Election Commission of India (ECI) and functions according to laid down Constitutional norms, and not at one’s whims and fancies. It stated that the office bearers of the party, including the president, were appointed according to the provisions of the constitution of the party. As far as the party and Election Commission of India were concerned, M&PB said the NPF president was Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu and “not a charlatan unable to decide whether he is of the Democratic Progress Party or would like to cling on to the political party from which he has been suspended.” NPF central also stated that the “unconstitutional government” headed by TR Zeliang was on borrowed time and surviving
through the “mercy and largesse” of the BJP government at the Centre. However, NPF said that the Courts of Law would not be so generous because of the “flagrant violations of rules and procedures” the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Speaker and Nagaland Governor resorted to in their hurry to install the TR Zeliang government. NPF central alleged that the “unholy duo” of TR Zeliang and Rio, having failed to convince the legislators supporting them to merge with the BJP, may not find it “very comfortable to convince the BJP High Command that everything is honky dory.” It stated that the “bigger charade” they had to pull off – convincing the Courts that “they can fool everyone all the time” – lay ahead of them in the weeks to come.
