2020 Vision Project Ground-Breaking Thanks to generous support from the community, ground was broken for the new East Building that will provide much needed classroom space for the sciences and arts, along with several multi-purpose spaces including the Multi-Purpose Hall, which will be used for a variety of functions, such as physical education, performing arts, and school assemblies. Special thanks to the many corporations and individuals who helped us get to this point! July, 2019

From The Head of School A Year of Consolidation and Growth 強化と成長の一年

Welcome to the NIS Annual Report for the 2018-2019 school year. We hope that through these pages, the ways in which we have worked to inquire, inspire, and impact will become readily visible to our community. We began the 2018-2019 school year with student enrollment projected to be at our highest point ever and this quickly became a reality as enrollment exceeded 500 students for the first time in our history.

Matthew Parr Head of School

These rising student numbers increased the urgency for us to start on our new building project and so 2018-2019 signaled the start of a public capital campaign in support of the ‘2020 Vision’, a capital project designed to deliver exceptional learning spaces for the students we serve. The 2018-2019 school year also saw NIS undertake a rigorous accreditation process through CIS (Council of International Schools) and WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges). We were happy to receive positive endorsements alongside full reaccreditation from both organizations, a testament to the quality of learning and well-being on offer at NIS. Financially, NIS is able to report a positive fiscal year-end result, commensurate with financial planning which aims both to support the timely and effective delivery of the 2020 Vision building project as well as to ensure the day-to-day quality and long-term sustainability of the school and its operations. Most importantly, again, NIS students, teachers, staff and parents were the people who shaped our school year. From pre-school through high school, we have lived the mission. It takes a caring and committed community to support a school like NIS. Thank you!

Community Support Community Raffle • Parent Partners NIS is extremely grateful for the support of our community. As a community-school, that support helps sustain our mission and ensures that the school moves forward to better serve our students. With the support of the PTA, the annual Community Raffle raised over 2.6 million yen in support of the 2020 Vision Project at the Holiday Bazaar. Special thanks to our many supporting corporate and parent donors for donating the prizes! The NIS Parent Partners were active in 2018-19 with many activities, helping to spread the word about NIS, help families considering NIS, and welcoming families new to our community.

Annual Giving Fund The Annual Giving Fund continues to help the school fill the gap to support our operational budget, so crucial for a non-profit school. Thanks to both corporate and individual support, over 13 million yen was raised during the 2018-19 school year.
