Spaces and Places is a studio of 11 architecture students under the instruction of Ludwing Vaca and Jeffery Roberts at
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas. The work presented in this book was produced over the course of the fall 2017 semester. The studio’s focus was on Transit-Oriented Development (T.O.D.) along Maryland Parkway. This type of development is fueled by the regional transit commission’s recent proposal for the city’s first light rail system that will connect McCarran International airport with the Bonneville transit center via Maryland Parkway. The studio saw this as an opportunity for exciting research-based design and began the semester by conducting an urban inventory composed of diagrams and photographs. From there, students extracted that research and began to design with the urban context in mind.
