BHAVNEET KAUR Educator , Ex Principal , Poet , Trainer NAVRATRI CELEBRATION Shubho Bijaya Greetings are exchanged or known as Dussehra in the north of India is a well-known Hindu festival that celebrates the victory of good over evil. This day culminates with a nine-day fasting period of Navratri .But in the east we celebrate from the 6th day namely Sasthi, Saptami ,Astami, Nabami and Dashami is celebrated in West Bengal. On this day of Dashami or Dussehra also coincides with immersion of the idol of Goddess Durga and women bid adue to their adorable daughter Durga with her family of her sons Ganesha Kartick and her daughters Saraswati and Lakshmi. This day is celebrated to commemorate the killing of Ravana by Lord Rama. People celebrate Dussehra by putting vermillion on each others faces and head . On Bijaya Dasami or Bijoya Dashomi, immediately after the day of Dashomi or People celebrate Dussehra by putting vermillion on each others faces and head .On Bijaya Dasami or Bijoya Dashomi, immediately...

after the day of Dashomi or the tenth day of Navaratri, marked by a some procession where the clay statues are ceremoniously walked to a river or ocean coast for a solemn goodbye to Durga. Many mark their faces with vermilion /Sindoor wear traditional saris . It is an emotional day for some devotees, even for many atheist Bengalis as the congregation sings emotional goodbye songs. When the procession reaches the water, Durga is immersed, the clay dissolves, and she is believed to return to Mount Kailasha with Shiva and to the cosmos in general. People distribute sweets and gifts, visit their friends and family members. Afterwards the celebrations are followed by the religious ritual of burning an effigy of Ravana. The festival of Dussehra, is also known as Dasshara or Vijaya Dashami at West Bengal and in different parts of India, is a popular festival among Hindus as it signifies good winning over evil. The word Vijayadashami is made up of two words-- Vijaya meaning victory and Dashami meaning the tenth. Bhavneet Kaur OCTOBER 2020 - 006

NAVRATRI

This has been my favourite song since childhood. Whilst I write this article, it brings a smile on my face as I go into flashback and reminisce my younger days when we enjoyed navratri for all nine nights, until the wee hours of the morning. NAVRATRI: a much awaited festival of the year and enjoyed by almost everyone, irrespective of the person belonging to any cast or religion. It's that time of the year where spirits are at its highest peak and boys, girls, men and women, all eagerly participate with zeal and enthusiasm. Navratri : meaning 'nine nights', also called Durga Puja, in Hinduism, a major festival held in honour of the divine feminine. Navratri occurs over nine days during the month of Ashvin. It often ends with the Dussehra (also called Vijayadashami); celebration on the 10th day. A large number of people across the nation

observe it differently. For many it's a religious obligation of fasting, pooja and arti and others it is dancing, feasting and generally merry making. The festival is connected to the famous battle that took place between Maa Durga and the demon Mahishasura which celebrates the victory of Good over Evil. Each day of Navratri is dedicated to the incarnation of Goddess Durga. For these nine days, people worship nine different avatars of the Goddess. People believe that each of these nine goddesses has tremendous power and they all combine to form Maa Durga. People worship Maa Durga in various forms of Shakti or Power all throughout Navratri. They are: Durga, Bhadrakali, Amba, Annapoorna Devi, Sarvamangala, Bhairavi, Chandika, Lalita, Bhavani, and Mookambika. Now let's talk about the fun and excitement during Navratri. Pandals are decorated, the streets are illuminated with bright lights and music is in the air. Not only our feet, but even our hearts are dancing to the tunes of traditional folk songs. Navratri Utsav Special Edition

Showrooms and shops in malls are embellished with mannequins, posing in colourful chaniya choli for girls and kediyu for boys and young men. The embroidery on them is also not of any ordinary type. It's the speciality of Gujarat. Embossed with mirror work, abhla, ghoghri and shells. It's a sight for sore eyes. You'll find street vendors on every nook and corner, screaming their lungs out, calling customers and selling dandiya sticks, rangoli colours, stickers and decorated diyas. And of course how can we forget the long looms of marigold flowers!

Even if you don't want to buy anything, the ambiance of the world outside the home is so colourful and full of life, that you are compelled to step out and relish the beautiful environment around you. All said and done, I strongly believe that Navratri is the festival that binds people together. “Unity in diversity, India is known for this motto all over the world and Navratri is the festival which defines it to its epitome.

Why do we celebrate " NAVRATRI " ? By the way, there are 2 stories about Navratri 1) Pleased with the penance of Mahishasura, the gods gave Mahishasura the boon of being Ajay. After that Mahishasura started to use that boon away and made a step from hell to heaven. Mahishasura took away all the rights of the gods and became the master of heaven, then the gods created Durga Maa, they dedicated all their weapons to Sastra Durga ji, so that Durga Maa became more powerful then the war of Mother Durga and Mahishasura Lasted for 9 days. After 9 days, after killing Mahishasura, Mother Durga was called "Mahishasuramardini". 2) When a war was going on between Lord Rama and Ravana, in order to kill him, Bhramdev told Lord Rama to worship Chandi Devi. The rare 108 nil lotus flower was also arranged for havan and for the worship of Chandi, and on the other side,Ravana also started reciting Chandi

forimmortality. In this way, Ravana in his elusive way disappeared a Neel Kamal from the place of worship. Then Lord Rama remembered that he was also called " Kamalnayan-navakanjalochan ". Then he took out his eye and thought of going to worship, as soon as Lord Ram was coming out of his eye, Durga Devi was pleased and gave the blessing of being Ajay. On the other side, Hanumanji disguised as a Sadhu and sat there chanting Chandi. He used the word " Karni " instead of " Harani " in shloka and he was angry and cursed that " May you be destroyed " ... Let friends also know that why Navratri is celebrated twice a year? Navratri is a celebrated 2 times in 1 year. 1st Navratri in Chaitra in the beginning of summer and 2nd Navratri in the month of Ashwin on the beginning of Winter. Sun energy affects us the most during the summer and cold seasons because such life etc. are used during harvesting, changing condensation for rain and giving relief from cold. That is why this time is considered to be the best for worshiping the powers and due to change in nature, our body, mind and brain also undergo changes. That is why we keep fast and worship Shaktis for physical and mental balance. It is celebrated once a year for the victory of truth and religion and at other times it is celebrated as the birth of Lord Shri Ram … Jeet Panchal “ िदल से कलम तक “

But to beat her abusely at her home? Is it fair to say her "Annapurna", Even though she lacks food and give her trauma? To this world, to this society, I wanna say that, A woman always living in anxiety, Is it really fair? So save woman, Respect woman. Niti Sejpal ( Titli )

Pratiba Sopori Sr.Academic Coordinator Springdales School, Jammu Respect For Women Love and respect woman. Look to her not only for comfort, but for strength and inspiration and the doubling of your intellectual and moral powers. Blot out from your mind any idea of superiority; you have none. "GIUSEPPE MAZZINI" Respect is frequently invoked as an integral aspect of ethics and While we recognize that there are many reasonable ways to think about and use the term ‘respect’, in this paper, we develop a conception of respect that imposes a distinct moral duty on everyone. Women like to be treated in a certain way; they want to be treated with respect. A lot of men, in this culture are taught by movies and even friends to treat women like they are objects. This, however, is very wrong. Women are people just like us. God calls us to respect all people, especially women. We are all made in the image of God; so we are all equal. She is your sister, your classmate, and friend. She is thin, tall, short, chubby, fair, dark-skinned, or brown-skinned. She may have freckles, pimples, or clean, unblemished skin.

No matter who she is or how she is, every woman deserves respect and to be treated kindly, just as a men does. To respect a woman is to accept her as she is, with all her flaws and strengths. It also means to consider her opinions and ideas and be considerate of her feelings and beliefs. Respect is not a luxury or a favor that you offer to a woman. It is the bare minimum that she deserves and expects. When people respect someone as a person, they admire her. When they respect her as a friend, they love her. When they respect her as a leader, they follow her.No man succeeds without a good woman behind him. Wife or mother, if it is both, he is twice blessed indeed. Women are as human as any men, as good, or as flawed as anyone else. So why can’t we respect women for the right reasons? I don’t know how many times I have come across posts or statements, asking men to respect women because ‘they are also someone’s sister or mother or daughter or wife‘. (Ma, Beti, Behen, Biwi!) This is ridiculous idea. It is like saying don’t damage that car because it belongs to somebody and you will hurt that person it belongs to by damaging his property. Women are not property. Women must be respected for their own sake, and not just for what they mean to their family or society. Women should not be defined in terms of their relationship to men or family or society. Those are incidental. They may be great relationships and may bring great joy to the women concerned. But they do not make the woman. OCTOBER 2020 - 018

Navratri Utsav Special Edition

A woman has an identity of her own. She has her feelings, opinions, thoughts, talents and concerns. She is an individual. She is not an extension of some family member and she does not belong to anybody. The problem is, often people making these statements, do not even realize they are sexist. In fact, people making such statements, often think they are helping the cause of gender equality. Here lies the problem. Many issues women ace, is a result of the age old idea, that a woman is just some man’s property. This idea has caused the subjugation of women for centuries. It is at the root of all the injustice and inequality women face. It has enabled fathers, husbands and brothers, to impose their will on women and

deprive them of education and a voice. So it is important to eliminate this idea. Using it to garner respect for a few women, can only backfire. We want to move forward in getting freedom, equality and meaningful respect for women. Not backward. Such a dangerous idea should not be allowed to sneakily creep in to our thinking again. So don’t respect women or show consideration towards them because they are someone’s sister or mother or wife. Just do so because respecting and being considerate towards another human being is the right thing to do. PRATIBA SOPORI

RANAK VAJRA VEER SINGH JAMWAL Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 2 Jammu Cantt

Jammu And Kashmir SAVE GIRL CHILD ‘Right to Life’ is one of the most fundamental right guaranteed to us in our constitution. All of us know that. We even have the power to protest for it. But have you ever thought that killing of a Girl in her mother’s womb, or assaulting her , is also a violation of her VERY BASIC AND FUNDAMENTAL RIGHT? This has been debated by different people at various stages and platforms, but still, there are many people in our country, whose mindsets regarding this issue still remain stagnated. In the 1980’s, it was a suspicion, in the 1990’s, it was a near certainty and in 2011, it became an indisputable fact that Indians don’t want girls to be born or rise up in life. Though many people have campaigned and condemned against the mentality that girls are a burden, we have not been fully able to get rid of this thinking. Many movies, TV shows, serials have been made on this topic. But do we even bother to imbibe the moral, instead of just applauding or criticizing the visual? Well the answer is a big NO! No day passes by without a crime happening with a girl,

which threatens her as well as the lives of other girls too. Though laws on sex determination and abortion have been made, but we can see that they are being flouted. Till this date, some private and even some government hospitals tend to violate these rules for money or other favors. This results in people performing foeticide, or abandoning their girl in dumps, rail tracks or on roads. We worship many goddesses, but by not respecting the goddess of the home, i.e. a girl, we are just singing prayers, which won’t even fall on the goddess’ ears. Well, rather than just talking, let us look at some examples, which show that what would have happened if their parents had killed them in the womb only, or did not give her a chance to do something in life, then how would they have been able to make the country proud of them and shine1. Famous fashion designer Ritu Kumar, who in lack of educational opportunities left her home to study in Shimla. 2. Nicknamed as Dhing express, sprinter Hima Das holds the Indian national record in 400 metres with a timing of 50.79 s that she clocked at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia, came from a very humble background. 3. Famous Athlete Dipa Malik, is the first Indian woman to win a medal in Paralympic Games and won a Silver medal at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in the shot put. She has also won gold in the F-53/54 Javelin event at the para athletic Grand Prix held in Dubai in 2018. Had she been regretting of her paralysis, no one would have known her name. 4. Kiran Bedi, the first female IPS officer of India and the Current Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry. 5. Gunjan Saxena, the first female fighter pilot of India, enthusiastically supported by her father, an army personnel. Anything done wrong with girl is a crime, from teasing her to not educating her, from not giving her a chance to breaking her trust, and from not letting her come into this world to sexually assaulting her. It is inevitable that if a girl is nurtured , given care and love, she will not only bring

happiness, prosperity and respect to the whole family, but to the whole nation. The need of the hour is not only to make laws practicable and strict, but also to shift the mindset of the people to the opinion that girl child is important, because our thinking affects our actions. At the last I would only like to say that‘’A prince will become a king if he is born. And the prince will be born , if the Queen is born.’’ RANAK VAJRA VEER SINGH JAMWAL

Amritsar - Punjab SAVE GIRL CHILD The existence of human life on this earth is impossible without equal participation of both woman and man. They are equally responsible for this human race on earth. They are also liable for development and growth of our nation. However, the existence of women is far more important than man because without her we can’t image our existence. Today India is growing dynamically in every field. The boom in the economy, innovative technology and improved infrastructure has became nation’s pride. In India dynamic and vibrant universities, IIT, Schools and Collages were setup in changing the global tends. Our country has witnessed an advancement in all fields but a bias against a girl still prevailing in India. In order to improve this condition, many NGO’S, State govt. and Central govt. have launched many laws one like Girl Child Campaign to arrest the declining sex ration. But to save Girl Child it is essential to ascertain the root cause of the backwardness of the society. Being a male dominant society, family’s....

desire for a male child to carry forth the ancestral heritage. The first question parents ask at the birth of a child, in all society all over the world is always the same “is it a boy or girl”. If boy the whole family celebrate that day with great zeal and for a girl child wise – versa. After marriage woman has limited role to play in the business affairs of a narrow minded traditional family and hence her talents gets wasted. The Indian law has always been forceful in implying the privileges of Lady members of the society. But girl child can only be saved if the mentality of common man towards girl change. So to save humans from extinction we need to save girl child. Mostly it has been seen that people abort or kill girl child before her birth. Over years norms of both men and women have changed as far as now being their acceptance in the business. In addition also she has her household responsibilities but even then female feticide still exist. A girl child deserves a life where she is treated equally to boy and she should be loved and respected like others. Girls are very strong and determinant and can take care of themselves. In Indian society what we want is an ideal wife, mother, sister and a lissome (synonym of beautiful) girlfriend even but they never want a girl as a blood relative. It has been truly said by Mao Zedong “Woman hole up half the sky”. With there pure passion for their work and there good deeds, woman are a true inspiration for everyone. Woman empowerment had became one of the biggest movements in India nowadays and many Indian women have proven to be the building blocks of the movement. Most of them are known and respected throughout the world and some of them are historical figures and most definitely all of them will be remembered forever. OCTOBER 2020 - 021

Following are the examples of woman who achieved heights in there field and if there parents would have killed them these achievements would not have been made Njeze Gonxhe Bojaxhiu is one of the biggest names in the history. She is honored in the roman catholic church as Saint Teresa. She is known for being one of the most selfless human beings in the world. Other prominent figures from the history book – Indira Gandhi the only female president in the history of India and this says a lot about her

Kalpana Chawla was true example of bravery as she was the first Indian woman to go in space. The story of her excellence and bravery is still remembered by everyone and inspires every woman in the world. Besides, there are also other social evils in society that prevent parents from having a girl child. Female feticide, dowry deaths are other factors. Golu Bommai

To live long and happy in the world,

Oh! It is the time for a holy celebration,

There are many mythological tales to be told:

With the wishes to get good vibration---

From the ancestors of our Indian culture,

Worship of tri-Goddesses paves the way:

We get worthy names in the nomenclature;

Parvati, Saraswati and Lakshmi rule the day,

To begin it, “Navratri” means nine nights,

By the valour, literature and wealth to yield,

“Vijayadhasami” is the end of all our fights---

And protect every generations as a shield.

The day of wisdom to enroll children in schools,

Pooja celebrations start with sound of bell,

After wars, Pooja for all the victorious tools!

That opens the soul of devotee from its shell; Sun rise as the vermilion on Her forehead, By lining up Golu Bommai on the stairs,

Her hands have Asura’s heads with bloodshed:

The sweet little guests for our heiresses and heirs;

It shows that no human should do any crime,

Children love Vinayaga who stands as the first,

Her punishment will be severe on the time---

Women need Krishna for His lovely acts with best,

Wear traditional dresses and go to the temple,

‘Marrappachi Bommai’ is a gift for groom and bride,

Pray Goddesses, always be honest and humble;

An angry tiger is the vehicle for Lord Durga to ride…

Women are the living Goddesses in our society,

We welcome all people to see them as visitors,

Say “Om Namah Shivaya” as your heavenly duty.

Provide Laddu and Jelabi for our neighbours; Mr.V.Heymonth Kumar

GOLU BOMMAI Navratri is the best occasion for destroying evils and adding up more fortunes to our lines. Golu is a term used to represent the South Indian festivity of expressing culture, real-life, modernity, multiple aspects of society. There is a basic tradition followed in golu. That is arranging toys of cultural heritage, traditional beliefs, ritual stories and spiritual customs.

Another thing was while a girl moving to her husband's home, Marapaachhi Bommai i.e, dolls made of wood, especially husband and wife dolls are given as gifts to her by her parents for keeping Golus in future. So golu carries the happiness and that starts the glorious side of feminism. In view of feminist critique states that one can see most of the golu toys represents a female deity kills an Asura. This is not to suppress other male deities but to improve the power of women in Vedic cultural manuscripts. Sri Durga or Sri Chandu Mahadevi killing the deadly Asuras in the ninth day of the war is called Navratri and the next day is Vijayadasami. The same day is seen as the Ravana's death by Lord sri Rama, where the north Indians celebrate it as the Dusshera festival.

These festivals portray the symbol of destructing evil and withstanding the truth and spiritual goodness. Reciting Narayaneeyam and other divine holy Nama keerthanaas are special in this occasion. Garlands adorned with multiple variety of flowers and Prasadams of different taste and grains are made and offered to Lords with devotion. Service to the celestial souls are the only utybof devotees.

This means truth is one though the sages know it as many, God is one though different religions approach it differently. We may call him or her in any form or name that we believe in. Our paths of understanding the almighty might be different but our destinations are same. The principle of Golu setting express the divine interest which invokes more harmony between people. Because while setting up a Golu one will invite their neighbours and share the Prasadams to each other. There resides the real happiness of a festival. Young generations must be taught the ways of setting up these austere festivities and the benefits of holding its harmony throughout their life. Golu is not just a festival arrangement of Navratri, it is the entire representation of myth, reality and future. Bhargavi V.

Golu is arranged in steps called Padi. Then dolls of various base and concept such as Ramayana, Mahabharata, Silappatikaram, Avatars of Vishnu, Shiva stories, sub gods and their stories, modern concepts such as a normal family, agricultural setup, military setup of saving nation, marriage ceremony and temple arrangements etc., More number of small mud pots with mini saplings called Mulaipari is kept for world's prosperity. Padi count doesn’t matter, because the devotional service to gods and goddesses are quite enormous in Indian mythology. We can go this from Vedic scripture as, “Ekam sat vipra bahudha vadanti OCTOBER 2020 - 036

Will they argue about the caste-discrimination While sitting in the steps of hierarchy of Golu? Will they discuss the sexual harassment and gender-bias in the Golu which has maximum goddesses' idols?

Will they worry about the pathetic stage of peasants While eating the food offerings presented in front? Fragrance of flowers and incense sticks spread inside Pooja room but the entire nation is rotten with pollution. Let's hope to have new India after Navratri.
