The earliest evidence of dance in history are the sculptures found in the caves and the excavations of Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro - one of which is a bronze sculpture which the scholars reviewing have proved that this dance Is full of emotion. In the history of Indian dance art the sculpture of this dancer obtained from excavation is the first valuable achievement which is still kept in the National Museum of Delhi. This is known as “Dancing girl'' Archeologists regards the dancing girl as ‘’The most captivating piece of art from an Indus site”

B. A - Journalism I M. A - Mass Communication

Origin of Dance The history of dance is as old as human history. It’s oldest book is the Natyashastra of Bharata Muni. But it’s mentioned in the Vedas too, which indicate that dance was discovered in prehistoric times. During this period there was independent disturbance in human forests. Gradually, they began to live in groups in water bodies and hunting dominated areas. Their first problem at that time was food after which they used to dance with joy and jump around the fire. They used to get scared of human disasters for which they must have guessed some invisible divine power and resorted to many measures to appease it among these measures, man made dance as the main means of worship.

A black stone dancing idol has also been found in the excavation Harappan, in relation to which the archaeological marshal has claimed to be a dancer. Dance in Vedic period The Vedic period enters the history of choreography after the Indus Valley civilization. The four Vedas were also composed during this period. Which are also considered to be the original texts of all our artistic heritage. Rigveda was first established by the Acharyas and Rishis, then the Yajurveda, the Atharvaveda, and the Samveda respectively. The Rig Veda is one of the oldest texts in the world and dance material is abundant in it. Elements of Dance in Puranas Harivansh Purana- This Purana related to Jainism depicts the pastimes of Guru Ashtanemi and the culture of his time. The author of the presented Harivansh Purana, JUNE 2021 008

giving his introduction in a good way, finished this work in Saka Samvat 805. It mentioned dance related events. Artistic dance and singing ceremonies at the time of the birth of Lord Neminath are described in it. The drama art is also mentioned in the Harivansh Purana. Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapuran - In this time, a detailed description of dance has been found in many places as well as examples of musical instruments, diet, acting and drama are also found. At the time of churning, when Shobha's idol Lakshmi was revealed, at that time the Gandharvas started singing Mangalmayi music ,dancers started dancing and singing and playing Shankha , Prahar , Mridang etc. In the descriptions of Krishna, no meeting of Radha Krishna is completed without dance and music. Lord Sri Krishna's beloved Radha and Gopies are piling on each other standing on the banks of the Yamuna and Krishna comes and starts Rasleela. Raas is the initial dance of the 'Kathak' dance. In that era, dance songs were an essential part of education and they were duly taught in the Gurukul.

Shiva Purana- Elements of dance are also found in Shiv Maha Purana. Shiva, who holds the foremost radiance in the fiery tejas, who rules over all the Universe. Shiv tandav is a foremost foam of dance which indicates the Shiva’s power and beauty. Dance in Ramayana and Mahabharata period Elements of dance are also found in Ramayana. At the time of the birth of Lord Rama , in the marriage ceremony , coronation, victory festivals etc. details of dance ceremonies are found.

In the Mahabharata, dance has also been found from time to time. In this era, Nritta, Nritya, Natya, trio had developed. Dance in the Indian era By the time of Bharata's Natya Shastra, many types of arts had developed completely in Indian society. The interest of the common people had increased in the arts so much that in the administrations, sometimes there was a fear that people would leave their work and spend time only in arts and entertainment, so they would be banned at times. Bharata Muni made Natya Kala as his goal and for the development of the same, he wrote an extremely useful and fully-practical interpretation of the Natya Shastra which is such a useful text for the Natya-Nritya art even after this time. It is the backbone of all classical dances. Natyashastra is considered to be the first available book of this art. This Maha Granth is not only a theatrical art but also a primitive treatise for many subjects like dance, music , ornamentation , verses, etc. hence it has been honored as Panchamveda. Bharat Muni's contribution to the dance world is valuable. After this, the description of these dances in ancient Sanskrit texts like Kalidasa's Shakuntalam Meghdootam - Vatsayayan's Kamasutra and Mritchkatikam etc. show the artistry of our Indian culture which is still intact today. Even today in our society, dance and music are given equal importance that none of our ceremonies can’t complete without dance. The continuous disciple traditions of the various classical dances of India will continue to flow the stream of this cultural heritage from generation to generation.

Nataraja

Dance is associated with Hinduism and mythology of Lord Shiva who is worshipped as Nataraja (Lord of Dancers or King of Dance). The image of dancing Shiva is one of the best known Hindu symbols in India and world. This image represented in metal or stone is worshipped in most of the temples of South India. In Tamil Nadu there is a famous Shiva temple dedicated to His dancing (Nataraja) form in Chidambaram. In the image, Shiva is portrayed as a four armed figure dancing within an arch or ring of fire, with His right leg raised and crossing in front of the body and left foot placed on the prostrate body of a dwarf like figure. Shiva dances on one spot which is the centre of universe or the human mind or heart. His upper left hand holds Agni(fire). This gesture of dance represents Shiva’s five activities(Panchakriya)- 1) Shrishti(creation) 2)Stithi(support) 3)Samhara(destruction) 4) Tirobhava(embodiment or preservation) and 5)Anugraha(salvation).

The symbolisms are-Creation symbolized by the hourglass shaped drum(damaru)giving the rhythm of the dance of creation, protection by the Abhaya Mudra(‘fear not pose’ of hand with the palm outward and fingers pointing up) ,destruction by the fire, embodiment by the foot planted on ground and release(moksha or salvation) by the foot in the air as well as the hand pointing to the raised foot. The dwarf like figure under His right foot represents Apasmara Purusha or Tridura Muyalaka (demon of ignorance or illusion). The image combines Shiva’s roles as creator, preserver and destroyer of universe. Three important dances of Shiva are: -Evening dance in the Himalayas (Mount Kailash) with a divine chorus, as described in Shiva Pradosha Stotra.

JUNE 2021 010

-Tandava, the dance which symbolizes the cosmic cycles of creation and destruction, as well as the daily rhythm of birth and death. There are two types of this dance-Rudra Tandava (the dance of destruction) performed in the burning grounds and the Lasya or gentle form of creation dance called Ananda Tandava (Dance of Bliss). -Nadanta dance of Nataraja in Chidambaram (also known as Thillai) which is considered as the centre of universe. The celestial dance of Shiva which represents the rhythm and harmony of life and time, is described in Shiva Stotravali, a devotional song written by the sage Utpaladeva.

‘Spharayasyakhilamatmana, sphurnvisvamamrasasi rupamamrasan Yatsvayam nijarasena ghurnase tatsamullasati bhavamandalam’ Meaning: ‘Being self-luminous You cause everything to shine Delighting in your form You fill the universe with delight Rocking with your own bliss You make the whole world dance with joy.’ My humble prayers to the cosmic dancer Nataraja! Dance is life itself as opposed to the static. It transgresses all boundaries – national, linguistic and

Chetna Jalan 1986 International Dance Day 1986 brings to our attention the relevance of dance in our day to day life.

Dance is the expression as also the celebration of life. It is the orderly movement of life as opposed to the chaotic. And in imposing the order, man expresses himself, his emotions and his environment.

environmental, and communicates at the basic human level. And in this while it not only retains the uniqueness of the individual, but it also becomes universal. Dance releases the surging energies choking inside individuals and also communities. A pretty damsel dancing in the wilderness in the woods and valleys under a shining sun, a communal swaying of aborigines to the beat of drums, both give vent to the deepest emotions nestling in their hearts. It attunes man to God and nature. Indian tradition has always associated the deepest philosophical and religious connotations with dance. The cosmic dance of Lord Shiva is developed from these associations and is now also being found to represent sub-atomic matter. The metaphor of the cosmic dance there unifies this ancient mythology, religious art and modern physics.

Let us bring a better understanding in the world and unite one and all, transcending all barriers of caste, creed and religion. Courtesy : https://www.international-dance-day.org/chetnajalan.html JUNE 2021 013

Before ending my article, I wish to add my poem about dance here. Dance An expression with out word A pleasant shake when we feel happy. Dance never comes when we are sad and sleepy Gentle breeze makes the leaves dance Vast sand makes the sea to dance.

Dance an expression without speech

Direct actions naturally connect everything.Without the help of any language one can express or communicate through dance. Before man began to speak he used sign languages to explain his feelings and emotions. That sign language structured well and beautifully developed in to a well known art called dance. Dance is one of the sixty four arts.Every region all over the world has its own special form of dance. When one couldn't express his emotions and start dancing for few minutes his stress will reduce gradually. Dance mingled with music is a great recreation for every one. Bhava plays a vital role in dance.Legs and arms carry the work load.It gives a very good exercise to keep our body fit. Stone sculptures in the temples prove the heritage of this art. Bharatha natiyam,Kathakali, kuchipidi,Mohini aattam ,Bangra, theru koothuthu, are some our Indian dances. Paalae,Ballet.Ballroom,Contemporary. Hip Hop,Jazz are some of the western dances. Dance gives freshness to our mind and makes our heart happy and light.

Running water makes the fish to dance

Green pastures make the cattle to dance With lightning and thunder rain has its own dance In a busy kitchen vessles dance Humanbeings day and night have their own life dance. In anger they aggressively dance In happiness they joyfully dance In hatred they hardly dance In silence they enjoy their own dance Dance has no words Only actions that guards Lord Natraja , The God of dance. The posture he stood remains, The world performing its dance. From mothers womb we started dancing Up to death for something we are dancing.... When our dance programme comes to an end, We leave this world and mix with the wind.

Dance is a natural form of self-expression: the body expresses itself naturally and so therefore does the spirit. ... Through dance, our body expresses how free we actually are, while also highlighting the restrictions our minds impose on it. Dance form is artistic expression, because men and women can form the physiological characteristics and emotional characteristics of their own unique directly and fully reveal, reflect their own unique artistic beauty: Men's muscular body exudes a vigorous masculine and steady beauty; women's graceful body full of ...

6. Some dance instructors like to choreograph facial expressions like winks or a surprised look into our dance number. If that’s their preference, go for it. It may feel a little over-the-top to you, but trust your choreographer. When used sparingly and in appropriate places, it can really make a dance sparkle. 7. When the emotion comes from inside you, your outward expression will be a natural one. Get your whole face involved, not just your mouth. Let it match the energy of the music and the movement, allowing your enthusiasm for dance shine through.

Dance- Expression Without Speech

Creative dance- is the highest form of dance for the purpose of entertainment. It is the end product of exploration and improvisation of movements as the dancer or choreographer expresses his feelings or emotions, ideas, and interpretations. ... The principles of art are all observed in the composition of the dance.

Yes, dance, at its essence, is about expressing the deep, guttural emotionality that gets right to the very core of us. ... In dance, our purpose is to express emotions, communicating physically, allowing thosefeelings to move through the body, out of the body, and in doing so, to move others.

From allowing our enthusiasm for dance to shine through, to taking in our surroundings, check out my tips to help improve your facial expressions: 1. Relax your jaw and your tongue inside your mouth. 2. Lift your eyebrows a little—like you would when you’re having an interesting conversation with someone. 3. Take in your surroundings with your eyes. Bonus! This will help with things like balance and spotting, too. 4. Breathe in through your nose, and let your breath escape through your mouth, which will be slightly open due to your relaxed jaw. 5. If you’re having fun (you’re dancing after all!), let the shine in your eyes lift the corners of your mouth and smile.

recognizing how focusing on movement and its communicative powers can free our thoughts. It's an expression of one’s innermost feelings.

Sapna Nagar Bharadwaj Educator

Communication through dance is more than emotional it has also a spiritual level. It can shoot a feeling that cannot be described in words but only through movement even by Gods. Shiva’s TANDAVA is a divine dance performed by the Hindus Gods. The Bhagavata Purana talks of Krishna dancing his TANDAVA on the head of the serpent Kaliya. Shiva is said to have performed the Rudra Tandav to express his grief and anger. Whereas the joyful dance of Krishna and the Gopis has been immortalized and it’s a dance of passion. Both the

Dance- The Hidden Language of The Soul Dance is a form of communication. Through dance one can tell the story of the lineage. It can also reveal where someone has been and where they are going. Dance is one of the oldest forms of communication between people. People have had body expression long before they had a paper in pain and technology. However, the beauty of dance is that we can express so much without uttering a single word or relying on having stationery or a laptop to hand. Our body covers the story of every single day of our lives and sometimes, there is just no way to completely hide how we feel. The subtleties of body language express the emotions and subconscious that we may endeavor to keep to ourselves. Dance allows us to tell our stories in the most primitive, basic, and truthful way. Dance is about so much more than how many pirouettes you can do or how high you can jump. It is about connecting to the music; expressing what words cannot; appreciating what our bodies can do and

emotions differently predict the different message of dance by the almighty. There are 8 Rasas or emotions of drama (love, humor, sadness, anger, courage, fear, horror, and wonder ) Lord Krishna is the master of Rasleela. These all rasas or emotions are beautifully and gracefully express through dance. Even God needs dance to express their emotions so as the humans, animals, and birds. One should always dance to express not to impress anyone. as it’s the best medium to express your all feelings. Dance is the most influential instrument of expression. Dance is the loveliest medium of an exhibition of feelings.

So, life is also like dancing -it's not about getting from one place to another, it's about enjoying each step. So one should enjoy every step of life just like you are enjoying the dance as there are many shortcuts of happiness dance is one of them. It’s a thing which you can do to express without uttering anything.

Dance an Integral Part of The Teaching-learning Process We’ve all heard the old quote, “life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain.” If you give a kid, a child, 25 minutes in the middle of their school day to just be free physically and even if you just put music on and let him dance, I know that that 25 minutes is going to make the rest of their day easier.

For us adults, music and dancing are fun activities. It is the same for children too, mainly because children love to move around and make noise. Dance and movement are also an important part of their development. Dancing, singing and playing music are part of a child’s process of growing up and learning what their bodies can do. Dance is an integral part of the teaching-learning journey of a child’s life. It teaches children how to interact with other people, objects and the world around them. Through dance, students learn teamwork, focus, and improvisational skills. Dance awakens new perceptions in children which help them learn and think in new ways. Dance also enables students to better understand themselves and the world in which they live.

Dancing is very popular with kids and adults because of its multiple benefits. There are physical benefits of partaking in dance classes as a child. Through dance, children develop a greater range of movement whilst developing the ability to work within different spaces. Dance and movement patterns also develop kinaesthetic memory. It also develops strength and endurance from an early age. Dance will help develop muscles, tone the body, improve circulation, improve posture, balance, coordination and promote greater flexibility. The art of dance helps teach a child to focus, creativity, and discipline, all in which are mandatory in any area of education. Dance lessons allows students to create routines and add their unique flare to their moves, to help them express their creativity and individuality. While other parts of their life might seem more rigid, dance classes will help them enjoy their personal freedom, which will give them a better balance in life. Schools are using dance to foster students’ intrapersonal and interpersonal SEL skills, as well as skills like responsible decision-making. JUNE 2021 022

Dance can also help students overcome cultural and linguistic obstacles because of its focus on nonverbal communication. Dance and movement can be a wonderful way for students to work on problem-solving and to develop the ability to evaluate and reflect, which in turn can affect their thinking on things like their responsibility to help make the world a better place. Many dance and movement activities promote teamwork and cooperation and provide rich opportunities for developing relationship skills and social awareness. Self-awareness and self-management are fundamentally rooted in the body, making dance an excellent tool for building such competencies as emotional awareness, accurate self-perception, and impulse control. Artistic dance education serves to stimulate conscious understanding of the language of movement and to develop aesthetic knowledge and skill in movement expression. Education in the art of dance

provides students with deep, thought-provoking experiences that combine many art forms and disciplines. Self-awareness and self-management are fundamentally rooted in the body, making dance an excellent tool for building such competencies as emotional awareness, accurate self-perception, and impulse control. We can use dance to help our learners to identify emotions: Give your student this prompt: “Emotion is a word that describes the feelings you have. How does your face show emotion? How do other parts of your body show emotion?” Next, invite students to follow along to the dance or movement video you’ve selected. After the students perform the dance together, ask them to choose a favorite move from the dance and practice that move while showing an emotion they select. They can do this in pairs—each student should guess what emotion their partner is trying to convey.

Dance - Expression without Speech Dance is joyful. Dance is cathartic and therapeutic. Dance is a way of expressing, defining, and affirming one's identity. Dance offers a new perspective to view the world. So much of our thinking is done with words. Social justice movements organize around reclaiming language, redefining words, creating vocabulary. We read, write, text, call and speak every day. But not everyone's brain works best with linguistics, and even those who excel at language have trouble communicating in different cultures or expressing something that linguistics can't do justice. Dance can bridge this gap. Steps conveyed on stage can embody and transmit feelings to the audience, producing an incredible intimacy that takes ages to build in daily relationships. The guardedness and baggage around language (proper grammar, politically correct speech, different vocabularies) fall away when we communicate with movement. Ideas are shared that may be difficult to articulate, but are deeply understood.

I recently saw a performance about suicide and depression. These topics, as charged as they are, are difficult to discuss, but the tension of the choreography aptly communicated the struggles of depression. This beautiful piece didn't tell the audience what to think, but viscerally showed them how it can feel to be so deeply hurt and hopeless. It was an uncomfortable piece, both to watch and perform, but left viewers with a deep empathy. The world needs dance. In this age of technology and online interactions, we need a reminder of the importance of physical interaction and the range of communication that our bodies, in the flesh, can accomplish. We need the opportunity to silence the buzz and pings of constant notifications, and instead plug into real-time theater. We need the sense of purpose that investigating a theme, attending to beauty or watching a story can provide. JUNE 2021 024

Dance needs the world. An audience that pays attention, relates what's on stage to life at large, and remembers to value movement and physicality over constant entrapment in the intellect. As in my previous article in the last edition of our very own webzine “Namaste India” where I spoke about my views on India’s culture and heritage this one is just an elaboration of the same. So coming back to Indian culture we have a very diversified one when it comes to even dance in particular. India is one culturally rich country, where almost every state has its own language, cuisine, and dance forms. When it comes to dance, India has traditional, classical, folk and tribal dance styles and all are simply amazing. All the incredible classical dances originated in the country during the ancient times. Let’s Dive through India via its famous classical dance forms. 1) Bharatnatyam - Tamil Nadu/South India Bharatanatyam, also known as the mother of all other classical dance styles, is considered as the oldest dance forms in the country India that originated from the temple dancers in Tamil Nadu. The dance is a pure amalgam of expressions, music, beat and rhythm. 2) Kathak - Uttar Pradesh/North India Another popular and recognised form of classical Indian dance is Kathak that originated from Uttar Pradesh in north India. This one is derived from the word katha meaning story, and during the whole dance, the dancers narrate stories through their eyes and expressions. 3) Kathakali - Kerala/South India This one is probably one of the most attractive, dramatic and elaborate forms of classical Indian dance. Kathakali originated in the south Indian state of Kerala, also known as God's Own Country during the 17th century. The artist performing the dance needs to have detailed make-up, wear heavy costumes and, most importantly, work on their gestures. 4) Kuchipudi - Andhra Pradesh/South India Kuchipudi is considered one of the

toughest forms of Indian classical dance that originated in the south Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The form is considered the toughest because it requires a whole lot of rituals, from lighting the incense sticks to sprinkling holy water and praying to the lord. 5) Manipuri - Manipur/Northeast India Manipuri dance form originated in the northeastern state of Manipur and is a pure spiritual experience. This is a theme based classical dance form that depicts Raaslila or the romantic act of the Hindu gods Radha and Krishna. Costumes and makeup plays an important role here. 6) Odissi - Odisha/East India Odissi dance form emerged from the east Indian state of Odisha and is mainly derived from the ancient Hindu temples in Odisha. The whole dance is based on gestures and movements or mudras. The dance is performed to express the mythical stories of the Hindu gods, such as Lord Shiva and Surya. It is also considered as the oldest surviving dance forms of India.

History & Evolution The roots of this dance form trace back to Sanskrit Hindu text on performing arts called ‘Natya Shastra’ written by ancient Indian theatrologist and musicologist Bharata Muni. It is presumed that the first complete version of the text was completed between 200 BCE to 200 CE, but some sources mention the timeframe to be around 500 BCE and 500 CE. Thousands of verses structured in different chapters are found in the text that divides dance in two particular forms, namely ‘nrita’ that is pure dance which comprise of finesse of hand movements and gestures, and ‘nritya’ that is solo expressive dance that focuses on expressions. Russian scholar Natalia Lidova states that ‘Natya Shastra’ describes various the ories of Indian classical dances including Tandava dance of Lord Shiva, methods of

Kathak is one of the main genres of ancient Indian classical dance and is traditionally regarded to have originated from the travelling bards of North India referred as Kathakars or storytellers. These Kathakars wandered around and communicated legendary stories via music, dance and songs quite like the early Greek theatre. The genre developed during the Bhakti movement, the trend of theistic devotion which evolved in medieval Hinduism. The Kathakars communicate stories through rhythmic foot movements, hand gestures, facial expressions and eye work. This performing art that incorporates legends from ancient mythology and great Indian epics, especially from the life of Lord Krishna became quite popular in the courts of North Indian kingdoms. Three specific forms of this genre that is three gharanas (schools), which mostly differ in emphasis given to footwork versus acting, are more famous namely, the Jaipur gharana, the Benaras gharana and the Lucknow gharana.

acting, standing postures, gestures, basic steps, bhava and rasa. Mary Snodgrass states that the tradition of this dance form is traced back to the 400 BCE. Bharhut, a village in the Satna district of Madhya Pradesh, India stands as a representative of early Indian art. The 2nd century BC panels found there illustrates sculptures of dancers in different vertical poses with arm positions that resemble Kathak steps, many of which reflect the 'pataka hasta' Mudra. The word Kathak is deduced from the Vedic Sanskrit term ‘Katha’ which means ‘story’ while the term kathaka that finds place in several Hindu epics and texts means the person who tells a story. Text-based analysis indicates Kathak as an ancient Indian classical dance form that presumably originated in Banaras or Varanasi and then spread its wings in Jaipur, Lucknow and many other regions of north and northwest India. Association with Bhakti Movement The Lucknow Gharana of Kathak was founded by Ishwari Prasad, a devotee of

the Bhakti movement. Ishwari lived in the village of Handiya situated in southeast Uttar Pradesh. It is believed that Lord Krishna came to his dreams and instructed him to develop "dance as a form of worship". He taught the dance form to his sons Adguji, Khadguji and Tularamji who again taught their descendants and the tradition continued for more than six generations thus carrying forward this rich legacy that is well acknowledged as the Lucknow grarana of Kathak by Indian literature on music of both Hindus and Muslims. The development of Kathak during the era of Bhakti movement predominantly focussed on the legends of Lord Krishna and his eternal love Radhika or Radha found in texts like the ‘Bhagavata Purana’ which were spectacularly performed by the Kathak artists. Costumes As Kathak is popular both in Hindu and Muslim communities the costumes of this dance form are made in line with traditions of the respective communities. There are two types of Hindu costumes for female dancers. While the first one includes a sari worn in a unique fashion complimented with a choli or blouse that covers the upper body and a scarf or urhni worn in some places, the other costume includes a long embroidered skirt with a contrasting choli and a transparent urhni. Costume is well complimented with traditional jewellery, usually gold, that includes the ones adorning her hair, nose, ear, neck and hand. Musical anklets called ghunghru made of leather straps with small metallic bells attached to it are wrapped in her ankles that produce rhythmic sound while she performs excellent and spectacular footwork. Head jewellery adorns her in the second case. Vivid face make-up put on helps highlight her facial expressions. Hindu male Kathak dancers usually wear a silk dhoti with a silk scarf tied on the upper part of the body which usually remain bare or may be covered by a loose jacket. Jewellery of male dancers is quite simple compared to their female counterparts and are usually made of stone. The costume for Muslim female dancers includes a skirt along with a tight

fitting trouser called churidar or pyjama and a long coat to cover the upper body and hands. A scarf covering the head compliments the whole attire which is completed with light jewellery. Instruments & Music A Kathak performance may include a dozen classical instruments depending more on the effect and depth required for a particular performance. However some instruments are typically used in a Kathak performance like the tabla that harmonise well with the rhythmic foot movements of the dancer and often imitates sound of such footwork movements or vice-versa to create a brilliant jugalbandi. A manjira that is hand cymbals and sarangi or harmonium are also used most often. Famous Exponents Imminent personalities associated with Kathak include among others the founders of the different gharanas or schools of this form of classical dance namely Bhanuji of the Jaipur Gharana; Janaki Prasad of the Benaras Gharana; Ishwari Prasad of the Lucknow Gharana; and Raja Chakradhar Singh of the Raigarh Gharana. Shambhu Maharaj was a renowned guru of the Lucknow Gharana. His brothers Lachhu Maharaj and Acchan Maharaj were also stalwarts in the art of Kathak. One name that has almost become synonymous with modern day Kathak dance is Pandit Birju Maharaj, a scion of the legendary Maharaj family and son of Acchan Maharaj. He is considered the leading advocate of the Lucknow Kalka-Bindadin gharana. Sitara Devi was another star of this dance form described as Nritya Samragini that is the empress of dance by Rabindranath Tagore and she continues to retain her Kathak Queen title even after death. Other eminent Kathak artists include Roshan Kumari, Shovana Narayan, Maya Rao and Kumudini Lakhia to name a few. “This Article is specially dedicated to my ‘MoM’ Dr. Kajal Muley who is a Kathak Exponent by profession”. Dancea Form of Language

Dance is a sign language which convey expressions, Up to the sky, down to the ground, Rhythmic body movements, beneath the stars, Which starts from the womb and it’s a must. When trees dance,it's a breeze, While rivers flow it’s a Wonderful dance, Atop the magnificent kailash -siva dancing, Anandha Matham – The dance of bliss. When we peep into this world, Our kith and kin feels the angel's dancing,

When we go, their heart will dance for us family shook, From mother’s lap to God’s lap dance prevails. We are the puppets in the hands of Lord, Dancing according to the God’s turns and shakes, We should accept those moves and dance, It starts from birth (heart) beat till death beat. While dancing all our body parts move, except tongue, But for musicians and orators their tongue dances...

Dejessviini Sreeramulu Dance Dejessviini is a student I was amazed to see. A lot of people have seen her dance performance on Facebook and other sites and enjoyed watching them live. She learned Bharatha Natyam when she was 8 years old , from Mrs. Sridevi often mentions that she is her first Guru from Chennai. Sridevi herself was trained in famous Kalakshetra in Chennai. In Abu Dhabi, Mrs. Jayashree Pursuhothaman has contributed significantly in achieving the nuances of classical dance performed by Deju. In Abu Dhabi, Mrs. Veni Vinod has made her debut of Bharatha Natyam through Kalamandalam Dance School. Everyone dances, it is true! but the elegance of Dejessviini ‘s dance is her facial expressions that mesmerize us all. For example, one time she has danced for a song, “marainthirunthu parkkum marumam enna” from tamil movie Thillana Mohambal, wherein she has reflected the legendary Padmini’s movements and impressed everyone at such younger age.

At one instance, she performed as Tamil Deity Andal in which she has brought the real Andal in front of us through her mind-blowing feat. It always astonishes us that there is a great passion and sheer hard work exhibited by Deju whenever she performs Western/K-pop/break/Folk/Hawaii/flamingo /Classical dance. All her dance performances are very well picturized and posted in Facebook/WhatsApp/you tube/instagram and being watched by many people. As per Deju ,she shows equal respect and love towards other language songs and dance type. When Deju appears on stage it looks as if she will perform as a high tide hits the sea shore In addition to the above she has won many dance competitions across the emirates of UAE which is the evidence how her dedication towards dance takes her to great heights. Mrs Sandhya Ramesh , her choreographer of Tiruvaatharai (Typical Kerala dance)2018 YOUFEST Sharjah, where their school (AIS) team won first prize. JUNE 2021 030

The most important achievement by deju is, during 2020 the lockdown period she gave a live presentation in Ruwais FM ,Facebook for almost 58 mins where she peformed all the types of dance she learned. Moreover, her success journey continues along with other skills such as chess, singing, drawing and martial arts where one can see how she is adept in handing them successfully along with the studies. In Abu Dhabi, she has joined Taekwando, trained by Master Mohammed Nadeem,a Pakistani national who himself is holder of

black belt third don. Then talking about Taekwondo, she has participated in many international tournaments and won medals and finally acquired her black belt first don. Having done all these achievements, Deju often states that dance is the main source of inspiration for her success in martial arts too. Finally, in conclusion, in my view I see all versatilities in Deju which is very special attribute of this talented young girl and hope she will give more such performances in future.

Dr. Kajal Muley Director I Kalabharati Performing Arts Centre Gujarat, India.

Proper use of Sangeet The research of something is undertaken when its intensity of purpose is felt, in the same way Sangeet came into existence. At the present time, scientists have started to find a cure for cancer as well as COVID on a large scale, because it is a big disease and people need to be protected from it. When a similar situation arose in the Vedic period, Devs, Gandharvas, etc. were put into a great dilemma. If such a situation persists for a long time, the physical and mental problems will increase, so everyone started researching and came up with a solution. The remedy they got was Sangeet. This beautiful musical – science was selected through the collection of objects collected from the treasures of nature, and its effect was considered through experimentation. Humans need rest after working for a very long time. Both body and mind need rest. Peace of mind comes from keeping the mind happy. Through entertainment they provide comfort to the mind, of which the powerful medium is Sangeet.

Music is made by combining three different subjects: 1) Geet – Vocal Music 2) Nritya – Dance 3) Vadya – Instrumental Music. Vocal music combines different types of songs like: classical, semi-classical, folk songs, etc. And these types include social festivals, rituals, every occasion of seasonal life, from every stage of birth to death. In Dance also there are different types like: Classical, Semi-classical, folk dance, etc. Also, in dance – drama there are 4 types of abhinaya: 1) Aangika Abhinaya – It includes the movements of Aanga, Pratyangas and Upangas. 2) Vachika Abhinaya – It is the narration of poems, dialogues, songs, etc. 3) Aahariya Abhinaya – This Abhinaya presents the character via costumes, make-ups, ornaments, set-settings etc. 4) Sativka Abhinaya – This Abhinaya presents one's inner emotions or feelings. Which is considered as a very rich heritage in India as well as across the globe. JUNE 2021 032

Rhythm and Tempo are also included in dancing as it plays an important role. There are different types of Rasas are also included in it. It also takes care of Lasya and Tandava. Combination of all these establishes entertaining, captivating, and expressive way in dance. Vadya is also basically divided into four sections: 1) Tantu Vadya – String Instruments – These are such instruments which are played by plucking the strings. 2) Sushir Vadya – Wind Instruments – These are hollow instruments which produce sound when the air vibrates through it. 3) Ghana Vadya – Solid Instrument – These instruments are such which produce sounds when struck, shaken or scraped. 4) Avanaddha Vadya – Percussion Instruments – These instruments produce sounds when the membrane vibrates. In these four sections all the instruments of the universe are absorbed. Music is now being used in all walks of life. Music is used in all sacred occasions such as birth ceremonies, naming ceremonies, thread ceremonies, weddings and rituals, but using a suitable music at the right place makes sense. Drums are also played to protest. Dhak-Damru is also used when processions of political leaders take place. The prize distribution ceremony, honors program includes a belly dance program. Such moves are also seen in the field of sports. One question often comes to my mind, or what is the need for 'cheerleaders' on the cricket field? The players and the spectators cheer each other. Let's assume that 'cheerleaders' are to be kept separate. So does their dance style, dress, dignity suit Indian culture? And these things may seem ordinary, normal, but instead of creating an atmosphere of peace in the society, it creates nuisance. This is not proper as it cannot be seen with the naked eye but spreads in the society like a slow poison. Pure music is the only medium that can balance the atmosphere.

As herbs are used for healing. But not using it properly can lead to disease growth. In the same way, the divine music is created for peace and its improper use creates unrest in the society. Many types of dances stimulate human behavior. Music is also noisy when played above a certain level of volume which can lead to high blood pressure, heart disease, and physical imbalances might also happen. Therefore, there is a justification for practicing music through authenticity, regularity and Self Control. The correct use of music gives the feelings of all types of peace, Om Shanti: Shanti: Shanti:

World is A Stage

“All the world is a stage”, said William Shakespeare. Late Mr. G.N.D Elangovan who held many positions in Delhi Tamil Sangam, Member of Tamil Academy constituted by the Delhi Government & Delhi Thevar Sangam said “Bharathat ku bharatam thevai”, which means India needs Bharatanatyam. This was quoted on the 3rd Feb 2020 when GD Classical Dance Institute, Gurugram, Haryana performed at the Delhi Tamil Sangam to present “Nadana-Malai” (An evening dedicated to dance). An institute started by the mother-daughter duo (Guru Mrs. A. Thayammal & Mrs. Gayatri Vijay) in 2013 on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti. They travelled a lot, through these years achieving several milestones with the many baby steps they took. The motto of the organization is to “Keep alive the authenticity” and passing it on to the generations to come. A well-known fact that Bhartanatayam is the oldest classical dance that took birth in the Tanjore district of Tamil Nadu. It flourished and was performed in temples, later spreading its wings through South India, eventually, to whole walk of the globe.

The institute not just solely aimed at keeping intact the authenticity but also, wanted to inculcate a strong value to their learners, that where you dance is not important, being honest and dedicated to the art form is of supreme value. They just did not perform to entertain the audience but to walk through the path of attaining the salvation by reaching the feet of the almighty, specifically the god of dance, Lord Natraja. They have been dedicated to performing for Ayyappa Temple in Gurugram & Bhondsi every year. Along with performing for huge organizations like Delhi Tamil Sangam, RSS Group – Delhi, Sanskar Bharti – Gurugram, Gurgaon Malyalee Association & Gurgaon Telegu Association. One incident, that should be mentioned is when they performed for two temples during a Janmashtami festival 2019, in 4 by 4 space with hundreds of devotees. Followed by another temple hustling with devotees walking around to get a view of Lord Krishna, while they walked through, the devotees watched the artists perform. On the contrary, they also inaugurated and show-stopped the...

International Ethnic Folklore Festival, 2019 (conducted over the span of 3 days), wherein over 200+ folk dancers, who came all the way from Latvia, South Korea, Nepal & Thailand. Also, the guru of the institute was part of the jury who decided the winners for the folk-dance competition held between different states of India. The students of the institute and their parents travelled 25kms to and fro, for three consecutive days to be a part of the show. The most recent milestone they achieved was performing for Delhi Deputy CM Mr. Manish Sisodia at his residence for the Pongal, in Jan 2021 which was covered by several newspapers, the deputy CM him

self tweeted about it and honored the performers. Also, the guru Mrs. A. Thayammal & the artistic director Mrs. Gayatri Vijay were awarded with Rashtreeya Visista Puraskaar, from Shikaram Arts Theatre, Hyderabad. Wherever they performed, irrespective how huge or small the stage was, number of people the audience had, the emotion was one – dedicated and devoted to the art form. Delivering one message every time on every stage – Dance with utmost devotion, for that soul attains salvation.

Dance: Expression Without Speech

"Shailendra, come fast!" Standing near my daughter's room, I secretly saw her enjoying some music on the headphones. "What is it Pallavi?" "Shh....." Our ten year old daughter couldn't speak and was dumb from birth. Nonetheless her hearing was very sharp and I didn't want her to know that we were observing her. Pointing out to Shalini, I motioned my husband to watch her quietly. Her back was towards us, but we could see her hands move in varied mudras, along with the music. We both kept looking at her and identical smiles spread on our faces. When we were back in our room, Shailendra said, "Hmm, she loves music and how much she was enjoying it!" An idea clicked me and I sat next to him eagerly. "Shail, let's enroll her in a dance class. What do you think?" He raised an eyebrow. "Pallavi, what exactly do you have in mind?" "How about Bharatnatyam? Shalini can't speak, but she loves music.

Dance will be a great platform for her to communicate and express herself. I think it will boost her confidence also." Shailendra kept looking at me wordlessly and his silence confused me. "Shail? Yes or no? Are you with me in this or not?" He sandwiched my hand in both of his and puffed. "Darling, of course I'm with you. But who will convince my mom, your dear sasuma! Huh?" I rolled my eyes and was saddened wondering why she was such an old school of thoughts. "Shail, have you ever wondered that even her loudest cry can never be heard! I want to give an expression to that voice of hers." "Hmm." He became thoughtful. "What hmm?!?" I stood up to go to the washroom and before closing the door, pointed a finger at him with determination. "Convincing mom is your headache. I want Shalini to learn Bharatnatyam. Period!" "Have you both lost your mind? How can a girl learn dance, showing off her body to the world.

JUNE 2021 036

Impossible!" Mom's predictable reaction at the breakfast table made me glance at Shailendra helplessly. He beckoned me to stay mum and continued to persuade his mother. Thank God Shalini was in school, and not there to witness the drama. "Mom, dance is a beautiful form of expression and there are many advantages to it, especially for our little girl. She will not only enjoy it, but it will make her confident and add meaning to her life." "Shailendra, dance is not part of our culture. What will our relatives say?" "Mom, I don't care about the world, for me, my daughter is of prime importance and I'm only doing what's best for her." He patted her hand and said gently, but there was finality in his voice. "As time goes, you'll see for yourself how fruitful it's going to prove. Okay?" Shalini was thrilled and jumped with joy when we told her about our plan. She hugged and kissed us and ran to tell her grandma. We enrolled her for Bharatnatyam classes. Mom may be angry with us, but Shalini was her life. On the first day, before leaving home, she touched mom's feet and took her blessings. "God bless you my girl. I only want to see you smiling." It wasn't easy. Not to forget my daughter couldn't speak. If many showed sympathy and understanding, there were others who ridiculed, teased and laughed at her. Shailendra and I actually had to sit with her dance teacher and explain the sensitivity of our situation. "Mrs. Nair, Shalini cried yesterday and didn't want to come. I want my daughter to look forward to this dance class and we need your cooperation in that." Slowly and gradually things improved. Shalini made friends and began practicing at home as well. We bought her everything required and she even started watching dance videos on YouTube.

Mom wouldn't say anything, but we caught her watching Shalini dance and enjoyed it as well. Two years down the line, mom surprised all of us and came up with a brilliant idea. One Sunday, over lunch, she put her arm around Shalini and said lovingly. "I want my granddaughter to become famous. Let's shoot short videos of you dancing and upload them on YouTube. Let the world know that I'm proud of you. What do you say my little princess?" When Shalini hugged her grandma, mom commanded, "And by the way, I'll shoot your videos myself. We don't need to disturb your parents." Shalini gestured with her hands and eyes, letting us know that she wanted new costumes and jewellery for the videos. "Of course, we'll go shopping and buy everything required. Alright?" Shailendra and I exchanged a deep satisfying glimpse, not believing mom's transformation. Shalini was over the moon with all the likes and comments she was receiving. My daughter was blooming and it gave us hearty contentment to see her so happy. But our objective came a full circle when another year later, her teacher told us that she had selected Shalini for a solo Shiv Tandav stage performance. Immense amount of hard work went into it and Shalini practiced with all her heart. She would become tired, nevertheless she didn't give up and kept dreaming of being up there on the stage. By now mom had bashfully announced to all our relatives that her granddaughter was going to give a stage performance. Shailendra and I couldn't believe mom was so enthusiastic about the whole thing. Shalini was looking like a young beautiful goddess in her blue and golden dance costume, with all the ethenic jewellery. JUNE 2021 037

Mom was there with us as we sat glued in the auditorium, eyes cemented on the stage. I prayed hard for all to go well. But I needn't have worried at all. Truth be told, it was actually mom who boosted my daughter's confidence. The YouTube videos had worked wonders, and today, Shalini had conquered the stage as she danced grace

fully, in perfect poise and with amazing expressions. Tears of happiness flowed down my cheeks when I heard a lady behind us say these words, "My God! This girl is excellent. I love her expressions!"

Puliattam ( Tiger Dance ) Puliattam is an unique dance, mixed with martial art, silampattam.

The display of skills is to assure protection of their village from enemies.

Silampattam is traditional Tamil martial art believed to be originated by Maharishi Aghastya. It refers Swinging a long seasoned cane stick in a practised manner and style to defend or attack mutiple number of enemies.

The most skilled warrior, winner of more competitions, is only allowed to have double tiger's tail, to show that he is superior in this art.

There used to be many competitions within the village level, district level, and so on. The warriors wear normally a dhoti only.

I haven't heard or seen girls practicing puliattam, even though they got silampattam skills.

Pandian K Chandran

Puliattam refers to display the silampattam talents of warriors, with tiger makeup. The warrior's body is painted as tiger, ears and tails attached. They wear anklets with small bells, like dancers. Their steps correlated with the tigers movements. Drum Beats coordinate with their steps and movements. Puliattam is displayed during festivals of local gods during procession. JUNE 2021 040

Dance – Expression Without Speech Dance is the form of art in which human movement becomes the medium for emotions, ideas, understanding , communication , expressions and exploration. Dance is a language in itself consisting of various skills, Vocabulary and techniques. Any dance form can unquestionably be considered and used for expressing your inner self with the movement of your body. It is the performing art form where you can express different emotions such as passion, anger, love, fear, aggression in an effective manner. I believe dance is like an emotion that can be put into motion, it is the essence of movement. Dance helps us express the deep, rasping emotion laying inside our very own core. Dance for me is an escape from all my problems. When I hear a rhythm, my feet start moving into enjoyment, I know I am not a professional dancer as I have never been trained in any dance form. However, when I am happy I love to groove on my favorite songs . Dance is a nonverbal language where one can dare to learn through imagination. It helps you to heal and it allows you to become aware of yourself. When you dance feelings become an

integral part of the entire process of dancing from beginning to end. You will be able to feel free and bounce back with positive energy. Some people dance in the moment of pleasure whereas some dance with friends. Some people dance to exhibit their talent and to be excel in their dancing profession.

Expression without speech, a notion to preach, Dance is the language of Love and devotion, Includes soul and body In terms of groove and exhibiting emotion!!! Well said that “Dance is an art that paint your dreams.” With the above itemize, I would conclude by saying Dance!!! It will reveal your emotions and exhibit the voice of your soul. You will definitely find yourself. It will help you to remove anger and make you happy from inside. Thank you!!

Street dancer Arthur was born in a world's biggest slum Dharavi in Mumbai.Where sanitation, food and space was a fight for survival.Life was no dance but dance to survive. His parents worked as labours and the gullies or beaches in Mumbai was his play ground from Mulund to Santa Cruz. He also had speech problem which made his life worse. At times he saw stars shooting in the streets of Mumbai .And he idolized Mithun or Govinda while watching them in his old TV. He often tried to copy and dance them but he thought he can never match them. One day, he was spotted dancing in the streets and soon he started earning some money . Some one shot his dance and it went viral. Arthur suddenly found fame and name. But it did not last as he got into drugs. Finally ,a good Samaritan helped him to get rid of drugs. He started a dancing school calling Street dancer which again got closed in lockdown. But few boys in his chawl saw him dancing. They formed a group called Bare feet dancer's.They got into Indian reality show and won. Like other famous Dharavi dancers now they are preparing for America's got talent. But they need money or sponsors. So if you see them winning clap louder as at times dance speaks more than words.

Dance at Death

We dance because it is in our genes, because our ancestors also danced, etc. Some people, those lucky ones who like dancing, do so because it makes them feel complete, relaxed, and alive. Some people don’t like to dance because they don’t “feel it”, and if they are forced to dance, they don’t like it because they have no idea of what they’re doing and feel awkward about it. Why do people dance at a funeral? I had the same question in my mind when I was a kid. O I thought it doesn't really hold any significance, they just dance because they want to do that. O After that I learnt that when burying the dead, not all cultures and religions dance during funerals. O These dances bring people together to grieve by celebrating the life of the deceased through performing a meaningful dance in their honour. O People will 'forget' their mourning by dancing. O We respect men and women who are dead. And we want to give a happy farewell. That's why we dance in front of the dead body.

O But we don't dance for young man or woman's death. Usually u can see the dance at the old man or woman's death only. The above are very good reasons for dancing at death. But another important reason is also here. Dancing and drinking are quite the pair. Some people are there. They ever want to drink. So dancing at death also becomes one of the chance for them to drink. At the diseased house one part of the amount for that day budget is parted for these people like at marriage parties. They along with funeral music group shared or in any kind, drink and use to dance at deaths. They dance all through the way to graveyard. Sometimes nothing happened and peaceful ceremony. But sometimes so many problems are caused by these people and the real meaning of funeral ceremony is disturbed. And even these people are becoming role models for kids to follow and make them feel that drinking is a must to enjoy our life. Yes, this is an only single reason which demoralise the concept of death dancing. But on the whole dancing at death becomes a tradition now. Songs foe dancing also played through the coffin vehicles. One thing must be in our mind… That Music or Dance… whatever it may be… it won’t affect the sanctity of funeral function. Yes….

Toshita Juneja Madhya Pradesh "Dance is a way to express your emotions when words don't do them justice" "For things I can't seem to put in words, Thank you Dance" Not everyone in the world has a precious art called dance. Who are gifted by God are lucky enough and can sometimes express their feelings through dance. Whenever you are dealing with the difficulties of life and feeling depressed, you may not have a mood to talk to anyone, what you can do is that you can tap, trip, sway, spin and rock. Life is not like a cassette full of songs, we can't go back whenever we want, we can't fast-forward it whenever we want

nor there is a pause button. We all have dreams in our lives. Our biggest dream is to go back and restart our life from a particular point. Of course it is impossible to change past but luckily your future has infinite possibilities. But dance is a different thing, if we have regrets of our past, when we dance we can forget them all. On the music we dance, can be reversed, fast-forwarded and also be paused. Dance is totally different, when you dance, you can forget all your sorrows, your depressed mood can be changed and also you can dance as many times as you want. Through dance, you can express your anger, joy, sadness, fear, disgust, and many more feelings. It is the art form in which your movement becomes the medium for sensing, understanding, communicating ideas, feelings and experiences. "DANCE IS AN EMOTION IN MOTION" In this pandemic, we all are feeling depressed and we can't come up with the solution of this problem. But to relax your mind, you can move your feet, hands and dance. Dance is one of the best medium to pray to God. "TO DANCE IS TO PRAY TO PRAY IS TO HEAL TO HEAL IS TO GIVE TO GIVE IS TO LIVE TO LIVE IS TO DANCE" Always remember, "DANCERS ARE MADE, NOT EVER BORN" You can't become a dancer overnight. You can't become a dancer till you dont have passion and craziness before dance. You can't become a dancer without dreams. TRAINING IS EVERYTHING Dancing doesn't mean that you don't wanna talk to people, its just about that you wanna give more time and importance to yourself. So let's dance and spread positive thoughts through out the world. BE POSITIVE BE HEALTHY JUNE 2021 047

Tattooing, body painting and costumes also define the class or caste of a region or community. The donning of a ‘Vesham’, involves the application e facial makeup in many south Indian performing arts. Masks are worn in performances as “disguises'' to establish an interactive relationship between the beholder and the beheld. The colours applied have meaning associated to the performance. For instance, Red symbolizes powerful, ferocious and demonic qualities; green indicates courage and pink indicates peace.

Spirit of Folklore - by Sarathi Thamodaran Folklore in every society reflects the soul and belief systems handed down through generations. In Tamil Nadu, most folklore is associated with marginalized class or community people. But the land somehow has always been overwhelming with folk lore in many forms and rituals. Extension of their faith and belief systems the artistes express their emotions, experiences and angst through various forms of play and worship! These expressions in turn become the reflections or the mirror to their individual thoughts and folk traditions of each community. The fascinating, vibrant culture is still prevalent is Ellaiamman, Elaikathamman, Esakiamman, Sudalaimadan, Karupaswamy and the likes.

The Face - The Canvas

Painting traditions in Rituals

The human face has been a living mirror from time immemorial reflecting the emotions and culture of various civilizations and society. When masked or painted the face has the power to captivate charm, frighten or seduce! The mythological and psychological aspects of camouflaging and transforming through face painting and masking has been a popular and sensitive ritual in many parts of rural India.

Amongst other forms of worship in temple related festivals, Vesham kattudhal or transforming through face painting has been a popular practice in Tamilnadu for many centuries. The performer changes his or her appearances and becomes someone else as a way of offering to bring health and prosperity in return. In Folk traditions, the individuals transform themselves to appear superhuman: exhibiting omnipotence or transforming themselves to gods and goddesses. JUNE 2021 054

This is created by several methods like masks, painted faces, or to hide one’s body with clay or dressing up with layers of jute etc. This belief of transforming oneself into a daunting or revolting character strikes an immediate dialogue with the viewer and the huge gatherings involved. Decorating with natural materials like flowers, neem leaves, or smearing turmeric are different ways of making up their striking appearances in creative ways. I have captured few of these personalities during various folk festivals held all over Tamilnadu. My recent search has been around human beliefs like Scape goat theory and Sympathetic magic, subjects which are part of Anthropological theories! JUNE 2021 055

The idea of classical dance, be it religious or spiritual, is a complex one. It is religious in a way being medium of expression of devotion towards God or Goddess followed in the Sufi or Bhakti Movement. Since the earliest Palaeolithic and Neolithic Ages to the Modern Age, diversity in dance forms has an incredible history. The evidence of the earliest texts related to dance is available in Natasutras. Dating back to 1000 BC, Bharatnatyam from Tamil Nadu was a major genre of Indian Classical dance. Kathakali from Kerala is a highly stylized classical dance drama. Kuchipudi from Andhra Pradesh, Oddissi from Orissa, Sattriya from Assam, Manipuri from Manipur,

Dance – The Hidden Language of Soul ‘Incredible India’ the quote makes us feel inflated with the sense of pride. Turning the pages of history reveals the golden past of the country. This country has assimilated the cultural values of the globe in the form of dance and music. But the million dollar question – “What is Dance” is still under debate. The definition may change from person to person. According to profound learners, “Dance is the loveliest medium of manifestation of feelings”. It is like a story that has a beginning, middle and an end. Indian dance is a movement that has aesthetic and often symbolic values. Dance has been the most influential instrument of expression since ages. Our cultural values count on Vedas. The highly developed form of dance is confirmed by the dancing statue found in the Indus Valley civilization. Reference to Dancing Gods is found in the Vedas. Lord Indra has been thought of in the Rigveda as one who also made others to dance and delight. Raising the curtain from the mythological theories ensures the roots of dance in Indian culture. Dance forms of Natraj to Lord Krishna, be it Tandaav or Raasleela, these are expression of anger and love.

Mohiniattam from Kerala, each of these forms represents the culture and ethos of a particular region or group of people. Dancing is all about conveying a message, ideally creating a piece of emotions the audience is able to understand. What you do perfectly is truly communicative between body and soul. Unfolding the pages of folk dances, be it the peppy dance of Punjab or the devotional dance of Gujarati Garba in Navratri, dance is the expressional story of joy and sorrow both. It is the hidden language of soul. It is the shortcut of happiness of body, mind and soul. So let us enjoy the life with dance.

Royal Roles in Present Day India A personal view

Way back before the British came to India, the role of the nobles and royals were easy to define - if not to fulfill. They ruled. Taxes were collected, wars fought, later hospitals, schools, railways were buildt etc. After independence there were a special period where the nobles and royals had their titles and civil list. India did not have enough qualified persons to fill all the posts of the new state. The British did not use many Indians in the Civil service and as officers in the military. They had educated the nobles & royals in a boarding-school-system like in Britain. This made them more «British» and more removed from their people. So the Congress-party used them as long as they needed them. Ambassadors, Rajprumaks in new states of the Dominion etc. The Congressparty also used royals on their partylists since people loved their former rulers. However when royals & nobles started to support another party they became enemies. Campaigns were launched agains the aristocracy, to smear the royals and nobles. The Congressleaders stripped

them of riches, and eventually of titles and privy purses. This even though the handing over from a state to India was an agreement between two sovereign states. India broke their part of the deal. So what is the role of royals & nobles in India of today? There are other countries were the same groups have lost their position, f.i. Indonesia. There the titles have been reinnstalled with the role of keeping up the heritage of the country. This might be an important role also for Indian nobles & royals. After all, a lot of the heritage, buildings, artifacts, art, gardens, traditions of food and drink, dance etc., are in the hands of the royals & nobles. Some have even got resources to restore and develop them. As one young nobleman states: The other thing which is in my mind is that they are already doing good in maintaining their rituals, cultures, principles, manners and preserving their ancestral properties by converting them for hospitality and hotels. Doing that, they should also indulge them JUNE 2021 060

heritage. The royals were primeministers/custodians/diwans of a god. Their power came from the god. How a Parliament, more or less democratic have got the right to take away titles they do not have bestowed upon people is another curiosity... The old task of caring for the inhabitants of their erstwhile states is not so easy without income from taxes. It might often only be done in small-scale as donations to temples, schools, hospitals, during pandemics and such. Many of the schools, hospitals, Universities were buildt in State-time. Not only in business but also else royal and noble families are giving work opportunities, they actively help people in need through NGOs. Educating girls, empowering women, NGOs for orphanages and old age people. Ecology is a new field royals and nobles could participate in.

HH Maharaj Himmat Bahaddur Shrimant Jeetendrasungh G. Gaekwad We have to spilt the role of the mentioned group in tasks conserning their own survival and their more royal role. Developing a fort or palace into a hotel might be a way of getting income, restoring a palace a way of taking care of the heritage. Though opening up a palace for guests might also mean to show the heritage to their guests as well. Many royals & nobles are custodians/owners for temples, and carry out ageold ceremonies. This might be one of the prime tasks together with their role in

Many go into politics, and this way it is possible to help many. In a royal family in a constitutional monarchy, that is in a parliamentary system, the royals should not show political preference. But in India of today the situation is different. As one nobleman put it: « Many members of royal and noble families are active in politics as such families are having a good hold among the common people in their respective constituencies. Be it Rajkumari Diya Kumari of Jaipur Royal Family or Asha Kumari from Himachal Pradesh, political parties are aware of the fact that people still have faith in royal families. The massive crowd gathering at the Raj Tilak ceremony of Jaiselmer Maharaja Saheb is proof that people are still connected to the families of their former rulers and infact I believe they trust and feel more connected to the royals and nobles as compare to politicians.» Many of the democratically elected governments have failed to discharge their duties in current situation, As many politicians seem to have a bad reputation from corruption this is not so strange. The present government is not negative to the contribution of the royal and nobles as some administrations have been. PM Modi recently acknowledged this contribution in a speech.

Maharaj Devraj Singh of Jaipur, Raja of Isarda, only grandson of Maharani Gayatri Devi. He plans to build a museum for his grandmother. He is taking care of his heritage, like the Isarda fort.

Maharani / Rajmata Gayatri Devi, one of the early royals to venture into politics. Less important maybe is pomp and circumdtance, though some paraded excist. In this way people can feel included in the royal festivities. This is very popular in Europe were baptism, weddings, Coronations, blessings and inaugurations are showed on television. Royals and nobles also participate i award ceremonies etc. And as one nobleman says: In the present situation the Royals and Nobles should be like role models, Now there is no monarchy but the Royals should lead the way of betterment and uplift ment of society, to guide the youth, help to restore the History, to be useful to the society, and to lighten up patriotism in today's youth. JUNE 2021 062

We are trying to do our bit, at Hindavi Swaraja Mahasangh by doing social work on grass roots, by bringing up great history of Marathas in front of today's youth. The best book I have read about the British Monarchy was written by a Norwegian woman. Why? Maybe because she has got enough distance from the subject. A British writer might take a lot for granted. Of course I might misunderstand India since the cultures are so different. So I asked some people what they thought about it from their perspective. The question sounded: What do you think is the role of the nobles and royals in India of today?

The answers came pretty close to my own when I summed them up. Different persons emphasizes different aspects, but together we were quite united in our views. The last but not least, one could wish to see a great organization of all the royal families, so the great decisions can me made for the welfare of the people’s benefit. The new Museum of Royalty and nobility might be such an organization, partisipating in a lot of the above mentioned, and also as an archive for knowledge of the bygone ages, - and present.

Delhi Haunts - Malcha Mahal

Delhi is the capital of India; it is meant to be the liveliest state. But it even has some dark sides like haunted spots. Malcha Mahal or Wilayat Mahal in Chankyapuri area of New Delhi is one of the haunted sites in India. It was built by Firuz Shah Tughluq in 1325. It is said that the owner of this place Princess Wilayat Mahal of the Oudh royal family, committed suicide here by drinking crushed diamonds. Her spirit is said to be roaming around the palace and the nearby. But Suraj, Ayush, Meera and Sameera were unknown to the history of this place.

2 days before visiting Malcha Mahal, They planned a Bonfire party at their friend’s place. Gauri, Akash, Suraj, Ayush, Sameera, Meera, Akansha, Abhinav, Arjun and Samaira had dinner and planned playing truth and dare, they started asking questions. They had a great time but the last question was a Dare. Gauri and Akash knew about this place and gave Suraj and Ayush dare to visit Malcha Mahal, Meera and Suraj, Sameera and Ayush were in relationship so, even they decided to visit too.

It was a rainy Tuesday, they were on their jeep, dark clouds all over the sky, even the morning was looking like dark evening. They almost arrived near the Mahal and their car broke. They decided to walk to the Mahal. Finally, they reached after a long long walk. As they entered the Mahal, they felt a strong negative vibe when they entered. The gate was rusted and turned brown in color. Situated in a thick acacia forest without any windows and doors, this is a 700-year-old palace. With no connection with the outside world, there lives a princess alone, with her ferocious hounds. The princess is always dressed in black attire and has not combed her hair in a decade. The entry at this palace has a signboard indicating: There was a rusted board which had a warning ENTRY RESTRICTED. CAUTIOUS FROM HOUND DOGS. INTRUDERS MUST BE GUNDOWN. There was written MALCHA MAHAL in bold red on the entrance wall. Meera had studied about paranormal vibes and supernatural powers. The wind wasn’t too pleasant and weird. Ayush and Suraj decided to stay there at night because of the thunderstorm. Meera and Sameera wasn’t much JUNE 2021 066

happy with the decision but had no other option but to stay. They got some cards to play for boredom. They were sitting in the hall as there was some kind of bed. They started playing, there were no light arrangements so they lit up their torches, they had got 6 torches for emergencies. 2 of the torches started giving electric shocks as they on it, this was strange enough. They did not pay much attention to that but Meera wasn’t feeling right but she knew no one is going to believe her. Suraj felt something wrong with Meera, he thought it was just tiredness. They started playing and after sometime, Ayush heard someone calling some name but did not pay attention till everyone heard loud voice calling someone in anger when they went along the voice they saw a man dressed in black coat and pant with a hound dog. They called in a low voice, “excuse me, what happened? Is everything alright? We heard you scream.” Before they could finish that man started. “Did you not read about this place? Ayush hesitantly replied, “No we did not, we thought, it’s just an old palace.” That man replied with a sarcastic laugh, “oh really, it’s just a palace, I wish you would have done some research. This is my mother’s palace, we lived here for a long time, and now people have just made fun of our houses and us. My mother had the worst death, someone could ever imagine. I couldn’t live in this palace alone, even I died soon after sometime. Ayush started making fun of him and said, “enough of scaring us now, please go to sleep and fool someone else not us. Meera told Suraj and Sameera that this guy is Prince Ali Raza and whatever he is saying is true and all he is telling about his mother is even true. Suraj and Sameera were stunned hearing this, Ayush was acting really weird. Prince replied, “Yes I am Prince Ali, don’t you dare coming here again, people just know to make fun about these things. Prince looked at Ayush with a very scary

look. Sameera held Ayush’s hand and told to go now. They came back to the palace, and everyone was shocked about whatever happened. They planned not to stay at night and go back this night itself. It had got really late, but they had no choice left. It is was 1am now and they got lost in the dark wood. After sometime they saw a lady in black, uncombed hair, crooked fingers and unusual body. She turned around and they all got shocked seeing her face. Her eyes were in pure black color and a creepy smile. She said in a spooky voice, “coming to this palace, will be your last mistake…… Suraj asked in a low voice, “ Last mistake?.” “Yes, the last mistake, cause you should be alive to make more mistakes?” the lady said in a sarcastic tone. Ayush got out of the car and said, “Is this planned or anything? Where are your team mates?” The lady held his hand and said, “Come I will show you..” Sameera pulled Ayush inside and when they saw his hand, it had a scratch like the animals can do. After 4hr drive they finally reached their house but really scared and horrified. Meera wasn’t much scared but she had billion questions and thoughts in her mind…

The "Reflecting" Thoughts

Hello readers , I hope and pray that all of you must be healthy and fine staying back home in these times of the pandemic , when lives are reeling under the perpetual fear of death and losing your loved ones. In times not so good let us reflect as the title of this article appeals to us, let us reflect and contemplate the "virtual realities" we have been living for. Now this does gets you intrigued as to what these virtual realities are? We have ever since our birth heard of virtual and real things but this new connotation is just so puzzling. Even metaphorically speaking somewhere this word "virtual realities" strikes a paradoxical thought because we all know that, virtual and real things are never in co-existence. I mean yes they do co-exist but then they can neither be complementary nor supplementary . So why have I used an altogether new terminology ? Yes exactly this is the question and the answer to which will follow. The purpose of reflecting thoughts is to bring to your notice and make it comprehensible to you what these virtual realities actually are. We have all been so driven by the mechanical humdrum of life that amidst chasing the materialistic satisfaction we have

lost ourselves. How accomplished are we and what do we really anticipate in our lives are the two most important nuances that can help us define the virtual realities. We the lesser mortals in the wake of achieving higher and higher notches have always dug in the soul of nature and have exploited it incessantly. Now nature is on the path of self-restoration and the first thing it does is "eliminating" humans from its sight. " When humanity sunk too low and the depth of graves was the only depth people know"...the superficial depth, ignoring those deeper gushes of emotions which struck our hearts all the time. As human beings we just failed to realise them, we lost self-contemplation, ignorance became not bliss but our habits . "Think less work more" , this short phrase is absolutely true but unless you think how would you work? The equipoised stature of our minds are in a ramshackle state and thus we get so engrossed in just moving forward ,lurching inch by inch without even thinking for the "actual" reason and this is exactly the juncture where we encounter those : virtual realities. The soul drenched in audacity, we become eccentric , unapproachable, inaccessible even so to the extent that we lose the inter-connectedness with our own self, own soul(ATMA). Without sinking much into the nitty-gritty of vast oceans of knowledge carried by pillars of our Hindu Philosophy i.e. VEDAS ,PURANAS and UPANISHADS ,I would here like to qoute a shloka from BHAGVAD GITA : "NAINAM CHINNDANTI SHASTRANI NAINAM DAHATI PAVAKAH NA CHAYANAM KLEDAYYANTYAPO NA SHOSHYATI MARUTAH"... Lord Krishna in Gita(chapter 2, verse 23) defines soul as "that element which can neither be brutalised by any weapon, nor can it be burnt in fire, nor can it moisten in water nor can it dry in wind".

The objective behind qouting this verse was to highlight before you all the significance and the vitality of ATMA(soul) and this is why our inter-connectedness with our souls forms an inevitable part of our lives. These are thoughts we need to reflect on in such times of unprecedented crisis where a constant struggle between life and death has brought forth the limitations of science and has entangled the entire humanity in this viscious circle ,making us mere dumb spectators .This gives us an opportunity to look within ourselves and realise what we have missed while trying to achieve those so called high aims in life.

This is the most appropriate time of introspection. This confinement is a chance to let our souls wander freely as never before and grab the slightest of hope and start with a new start, with a slew of positivity embracing us to the core. Let this confinement be a path to enlighten our mind, body and soul, if not completely then atleast partially, so that a few rays of rennaissance helps us listen to that clarion call of our own souls which earlier drowned in the meaningless reverberations of animosity,self-gratification, self-indulgence and ignorance . Hopefully this piece of writing will definitely sensitize the minds and assist you in reflecting those "thoughts" which are often born but are never nurtrured.

Indiscipline and Restlessness in Teenagers "Every block of stone has a statue inside it and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it”. Being an educator, I am dumbfounded by the change in the mindset of teenage children. Gone are the days, when children used to have perseverance and they listen and follow each and every word of parents and teachers. But nowadays, the audacity, with which teenagers question their parents and teachers, shocks us all. This is the high time to brood over this sensitive issue and let's find out the causes of indiscipline and restlessness in today's youth. What is the reason behind this strange behaviour of the kids of today? Nowadays, teenagers believe in short cuts rather than achieving success through hardwork. I still remember my childhood days, when I was a student; our teachers used to guide us to become better citizens but nowadays, if teachers preach students for their welfare, students behave differently, they take everything on their heart.Teachers are answered back by the students in weird ways; sameway if parents advise their kids; kids don't accept the suggestions given by their parents. This restless doesn't allow them to accept new and they don't improve.

So, it arises many questions. What is the future of our kids nowadays? Where are the moral values gone? Whom you held responsible for the change of mindset of kids?Where are we lacking as a parent? We should introspect and do constructive efforts to awake youth from this slumber of ignorance and intolerance. It is rightly said: "Charity begins at home." In the present scenario, parents provide everything to their kids except their time. According to me ,child's first teacher is his/her parents. Teachers mould a child but clay is set at home. It’s parents’ foremost responsibility to spend time with their kids on daily basis. They should be aware of likings and dislikings of their children. They should know the peer group of their kids. They should have knowledge of their child's favourite teacher and worst teacher; so that if they are becoming too friendly with any teacher or teacher tries to misuse the innocence of the child, they can take appropriate measures to avert any bad incident; and if a child doesn't like any teacher; parents should know the reason behind it. Only then, child can study and progress easily. JUNE 2021 070

Parents should have information of peer group of their kids in order to check whether they are comfortable with them or not. If child is going through any stress from any friend, parents can take safety measures in time before it's too late. A parent is the first guru or guide of a child; he can provide best support to his kid. Always love your child but not in excess because it is rightly said: "Excess of everything is bad." Love your kids, but not pamper them, because at the end, upbringing matters. Imbibe good values in them; tell them how to behave with friends, teachers and parents so that chaos can be removed. My father used to say: Always make your kids busy ; otherwise they will make you busy. Engage them in creative things like reading, writing and painting etc. Monitor changes in your child's behaviour. Never occupy yourself so much that you ignore your kids. Once I visited a parlour and came to know that, nowadays parents prefer short hair for their girl child because they don't have time to take care of long hair. Irony is that, we are running after materialistic things and we are ignoring our real treasure i.e. our kids. Don't

overlook your kids. What we give them, they will return back same. So, give your time and attention to your child. Be your child's first friend. If you observe changes in the behaviour of your child, delve deep into the depth of the things and counsel them. Hear their even unsaid words. Society has changed so as technology. With the passage of time, we learn new things, but we should know pros and cons of every act. But children don't know how to handle technology. In the age of WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook, children don't know what to share or what not to share. They easily rely on strangers and start sharing their personal things. It is the utmost duty of parents to guide their kids to be more alert while using internet. Parents and teachers must collaborate so that this partnership can save future of our country and bring fruitful results. If make our kids more pragmatic and aware, they can do wonders. Let's change ourselves and bring a wave of change in society. Let's contribute in making this nation and earth a better place to live in. Mrs. Raminder Pal kaur

The Blended Education… The New Normal “Learning is interpreting and synthesizing seemingly divergent ideas and data” Blended Education combines the best of two training environments—traditional face-to-face classroom training and high-tech eLearning. By covering all the bases, we can engage all types of learners—those who learn better in a structured environment that includes face-to-face interaction with an instructor, and independent types who learn better with semi-autonomous, computer-based training. Some of these blended education methods are : Face-to-Face: Traditional instructor-led learning sessions supplemented with technology to allow learners to control their own learning pace. Benefits are role-play, mentoring, hands-on practice, and feedback. Rotation: Students go from one learning activity to another learning activity, either in a structured learning session directed by a teacher, or online in a self-directed manner. Examples include learning stations, labs, and the flipped classroom where learners practice the lesson before attending the face-to-face training.

Flex: Flex learning is a term that can be used interchangeably with personalized learning. By accessing means of integration of learning in a Learning Management System (LMS.), the students control their learning path, choosing what they to learn. The instructor is usually present in a mentoring capacity, to answer questions. Gamification: One of the most effective ways to motivate learners is by letting them play! By using game play elements JUNE 2021 072

such as points or levels, learners feel a little competition and are more motivated to experience the material on their own time. Online Lab: This blended learning model is entirely digital, with little or no instructor interaction, and takes place either before, during or after a training. Learners can access content on mobile phones (mLearning), laptops or tablets. This modality engages and solidifies learning. Self-Blend: Self-blended learning is supplemental content—either in the form of webinars, white papers, industry blogs, or video tutorials—that help self-motivated learners delve deeper into a subject. A robust LMS can combine diverse content sources under one system to encourage curiosity and growth. Online Driver: This blended learning model is entirely self-directed and takes place in a digital environment. Learners can engage with an instructor through chat, email or ...

message board. It provides a flexible schedule and personalized learning, but lacks the face-to-face interaction of other types of blended learning. It is the best way to encourage users to direct their own learning while still monitoring their process as they enjoy media and eventually, engage in classroom discussion. You can choose from existing learning management systems or opt to have an LMS developed specifically for your purposes. A blended education model is undoubtedly a great way to augment the learner’s experience, but its advantages go beyond that. Blended learning offers the learner convenience and flexibility; they have the ability to control their learning pace and learn remotely.Academic research suggests that blended learning gives learners a more comprehensive understanding of the course content. It allows learners to interact with instructors and fellow learners, social learning is supported.

Baa Baa black sheep, have you any wool? No sir, No sir the modern man has taken all! What will I tell my master? What will I tell my dame? And tell me please sir isn't it a big shame? To take the Poor one's belongings, is it a fair game? I have always taken care of the bags three! Every one has read that in the books of nursery. My dame and my master will not trust me again And how will I console the little boy living down the lane? Why is there so much greed and avarice, Tell me dear Sir, if you can please? I always had three bags and now I have none And how will I face all the children? I have lost my job Sir, I have lost my wool The modern man has made me such a big fool! Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall Humpty Dumpty had a great fall All the king's horses and all the king's men , Couldn't put Humpty Dumpty together again Since his heart was broken oh Jesus! Flute of life

Restless soul and peaceful soul can be synonymous although the statement is quite controversial, but this can led you towards the journey of peaceful inner self. This statement has been part of my journey for the past thirty years and became more obvious when I started my spiritual awakening few months back. Going through the phases of the restlessness of my soul has actually pushed me towards the path of knowing my inner self more well. The continuous process made me go deeper into my inner being to find out the answers of this emotion. I came to this realisation that whenever I am under going this emotion some big change is going to reflect in my outer world, as if inner grinding is going to bring out a better self and manifestation of happiness and a self which is more strong than before. The process actually cleanse our soul But when we go through the process of restlessness of soul it’s a very difficult time for us as we are so unaware reason of the pain , suffering and the intensity of severe emotions. Sometimes we succumb to the pain which occurs during this time and become hopeless and think that this the unchanged reality of our destiny and we think of surrendering to the situation.

Despite being uncomfortable we think of staying in the pain and taking it as the reality of our lives. This feeling is very natural as we loose our faith in our self and loose the fighting spirit. It becomes our choice to stay there or make an effort to come out of lowest life state of our inner being, because like a flip of the coin there exists a peaceful soul which possesses the qualities of happiness, calmness, prosperity and enlightenment. Spiritual awakening is effected by many phenomenas such as our karmic tendencies , vastness of our lower self. While taking this journey like a ping pong ball we keep falling back to our tendencies which has been the major role players of our lives. I was in the habit of falling back to my lower tendencies and staying there for long long time and would spend many restless nights trying to figure out myself. Slowly and gradually through my meditation I came to realisation that there is no point fighting my tendencies because the more I will fight with them the more space they will acquire in my mind. So I decided to befriend them as they were the part of life. I would let them manifest my inner being without fighting and tried making peace with them.

For snacks choose a combination of carbs and protein, to help the protein be utilized for its primary function. Cheese with fruits, dry fruits with nuts, dahi with fruits. Milk and dahi are good sources of quality proteins; do consume at least 600 ml a day. Steps To A More Kidney Friendly Diet: Animal Vs Vegetarian Protein Persons living with chronic kidney disease (CKD) are often asked to lower the protein in their diet to improve kidney health. But how much protein is too much or too little ? how do animal based protein compare to plant based ? A dietitian can answer these important questions. Healthy kidneys can process the extra protein waste efficiently. In chronic kidney disease, the kidney cant cope with the excess protein. Thus, the proteins waste products build up in the body, lead to poor health outcomes. For those with kidney conditions, watching protein consumption can ensure the kidney have a lower, manageable work load with less waste buildup in the body. Recent studies have found that foods with animal based proteins produce more waste products than foods with plant based proteins. Consuming more plant based proteins can help lower the buildup of the waste products. Additionally, plant based proteins are more easily refined by

the body, leading to lower the protein loss in urine. Various plant based protein foods can replace most animal meat in the diet. Additionally, these foods are cheaper than there animal meat counterparts!! Instead of chicken, tofu can be substituted for a more kidney friendly diet. Eg:- Tofu fingers can be used in lieu of chicken nuggets. Lentils are another great plant based protein source. A dal fry is excellent source of kidney friendly plant based protein that can replace many ground beef dishes or red meat dishes. Various beans can be substituted in recipes that call for the use of meat. For eg. A can of kidney beans can replace 680 gms of lean meat. Hence, Plant based protein are more compatible and proved friendly for the kidneys. Thank you!!

Poonam Upadhyay Holistic Dietitian , Naturopath & Certified Diabetic Educator I Mumbai India is rich in culture and heritage there are various variety of dance forms that are known which differs in every region every state such as Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi, Kathak, Odissi, Kathakali, etc every dance form has its significance and requires immense practice and consistency for years to excel, nutrition has a vital role to play here but is usually missed which hence help to fuel up and help you to excel in your performance. Let’s understand the different nutrients and the role they play to excel in our performance. Carbohydrates- They are the major source of energy required for individuals as they help us to sustain longer its key fuel for brain and muscles if it’s not sufficient one might feel tired, lethargic and might not be able to perform the best emphasis should be there to consume more of complex carbohydrate which will release energy slowly and steadily for optimum performance but due to ignorance and lack of time we are unable to choose the right choice when it especially comes to carbohydrates i.e more emphasis is on simple carbohydrates majorly are found in sugars, candy, syrups, soft drinks, bakery products, etc, instead, complex carbohydrates such as WholeGrains, fruit, beans, oatmeal, barley etc. Proteins have an important role in repairing and building up body tissues also take care of the wear and tear of muscles,

cartilages, ligaments, etc. It also carries oxygen-rich blood to different parts of the body, so if you consume a good source of protein automatically you will feel less tired well as you will catch up the steps quickly.Sources of proteins are Different types of pulses, cereals, dairy products, etc. Fats are important in small amounts in the body but excess fat is also harmful balancing it with a good source of fat is very important, it will help to fuel up the body when you practice or dance for long hours and provide with adequate nourishment. Seeds and Nuts like Sesame seeds, Pumpkin seeds, Almonds, Cashews, etc are extremely useful and handy too also will help for proper utilization of proteins in the body. Vitamins and minerals might not be required for energy but are required in metabolism they help to break down the food from bigger nutrients such as carbohydrate and fatty acid as a source into smaller units so that body can turn the food into fuel also many important functions are carried by different vitamins and minerals which will be a present variety of fruits and vegetables, for example, Vitamin D and Calcium present in dairy products are essential for strong and healthy bones, iron which is present in green leafy vegetables and is required for carrying oxygen throughout the body, certain minerals like Sodium, Potassium acts as an electrolyte and help to keep the body fluids in balance. Water and other fluids Dehydration can affect the performance and activity by reducing strength and can also interfere in long hour performance or practice, Whenever a very intense dance form is practiced or performed water and electrolyte requirement increases for that individual as exercise raises body temperature and the body tries to cool down by sweating hence consuming enough water is the priority and will help to sustain for longer periods. We have listed things that can fuel your performances and make your dance moves more enhanced and beautiful we are sure you would use them and make them even more magnified with your smile and grace. The Perfection of Genesis

My dance is a phantasmagoric expression of my soul painting the seasons with the nuances of perfection filling a boat of life with nobility and honor while idyllic sounds of a newborn world (ah, what would it be like if there was no reason!) volunteer on the restless wind carrying my magical memory book into the future and leaving omissions and empty space behind.

As the waves of love set the behemothic windmills into motion, my dance disperses the darkness under and above ground awakening the mosaic-stained glass lobby of the castle with the breath of a reborn day reincarnated in my memory chest so that the joy of life could sprout from the oriental house of mirrors and swing the boundaries of bliss with a fiery staccato rhythm. Dance is a language for deciphering the cosmic grammar, for adjusting the clocks of the seasons and for waking up the inner, endless and mysterious worlds, refreshed by the murmurs of rivers and sea waves while swallows revive the rustling of leaves in the crematorium of dreams where quiet movements scatter rainbow colors across the horizon so that peace could fill the gardens of discord and each being understand the perfection of genesis in their own way. Shine On

Hey, you are beautiful, Inside and Out. Don’t allow the outside standards and comments fill you with doubt , Be proud of the skin you wear , Of the traits you posses. Because at the end of the day, You are unique and will shine brighter than the rest. Not everyone in this world will be kind . But don’t let them disturb your confidence or pick at your mind. Be aware of your value. Make strengths out of your flaws, Because people will act nice at first, But once, they notice your breaking point , They’ll take out their claws. Stay in love with yourself, no matter how hard you fall. Because at the end of the day, You are nothing Or You Are Your Everything. In a world that makes you feel empty inside, You have no reason to feel ashamed or feel incapable. Embrace what separates you from rest, Because those differences are what will ignite the fire inside and make you one of the best. Heal the wounds made by the voices that have said you are not capable. Get those voices out of your head. Don’t wait for a perfect moment. Start now, Right at this second. Have no regrets and raise the bar, To your self esteem and your self worth. You are beautiful and capable of everything. Ever since the day you born. So, be you and keep shining !! Thanks for reading :) JUNE 2021 089

ing increasingly difficult to adhere to these guidelines to reduce the prevalence of Covid 19. Beds are often arranged together in shelters, increasing the amount of close contact that individuals have with each other. The end of another society In many cities and towns, safety nets have added to the instability of the population in search of basic necessities due to negligence. Food banks have run out of money, and the kind treatment of pedestrians in the face of corridor house orders has all but disappeared. Separating oneself from staff and COVID-19 issues in the homeless shelter network has increased the pressure on the entire system to a

Homeless and Covid 19: A Sadistic Reality

With the onset of the COVID-19 epidemic worldwide, millions of lives have been destroyed and changed forever. Some groups have become particularly vulnerable in these times, such as the elderly and the immune system, whose plight has been widely acknowledged. But another group that has been particularly sensitive. But during this crisis, it has been deprived of its proper identity. This is a homeless population. They have limited access to sanitation facilities, and significant sections of the population are either elderly or in poor medical condition. Social exclusion policies have placed homeless shelters in particularly bizarre conditions. On the one hand, they are important in providing vital support and community infrastructure to the homeless population in numerous urban centers and communities. But on the other hand, the extremely crowded situation and proximity of these institutions makes the social distance practically difficult. Homeless shelters face an impossible choice between reducing their workload or keeping it open. While they are one of the only places where homeless people can change, it is becom

point. After emphasizing basic measures such as hand washing and avoiding large gatherings, it has become a serious situation where many homeless people are resorting to living on the streets and hoping for the best. Furthermore, the current state of affairs has shed light on various underlying structural issues within the social infrastructure that attempts to help the homeless population. This crisis simply widened the cracks that were already present, most notably those pertaining to the issue of housing. Despite social ser- vices and aid networks, affording housing has become an increasingly prevalent problem in recent years. Affordable and safe housing serves as a fundamental bridge toward other aspects in rebuilding a stable livelihood. It becomes far easier to secure a job when one has a stable home with utilities and safety. The downsizing and closure of various homeless shelters has highlighted the overload of the shelter system even more. Concerns regarding safety and regulations in shelters have also been exacerbated in the wake of COVID-19. Shelters are ultimately a temporary solution, and long-time trajectories need to be mapped JUNE 2021 090

out in order to lessen the load on the support system as a whole. As of now, the homelesspopulation is expenencingthe brunt of the COVID-19 pandemic. Ignoring this situation is not only inhumane, but also has universal consequences. The nature of the epidemic crisis is such that each group is interconnected. Health workers need vital safety equipment such as masks and protective clothing, which is produced by numerous workers in factories and plants across the country. Do Continue the supply chain for vital production and food. The overall impact of everyday social distance also increases the burden on the healthcare system. Everyone's health and safety depends on mutual cooperation and understanding that what affects a group of individuals will inevitably have an impact on the rest of the social landscape. The same concept applies to the homeless population: there is a collective responsibility to help society during this social crisis. Meeting the needs of our extremely vulnerable population Addressing the overall needs of our communities. Leaving individuals most vulnerable to the effects of the virus to prevent it is a sign of a balanced, destructive behavior that mutually harms everyone's health and safety. Cities have attempted to tackle this problem through a few different means, such as moving homeless individuals to hotel rooms. Unfortunately, this approach is not a catch-all solution due to the sheer size of the homeless population, and it is imperative that more expansive reforms are made to resolve the fundamental problem: where to house homeless individuals. Various homeless shelters have reduced the size of the operations, sending a wave of homeless individuals to the streets. This has particularly profound negative impacts in sprawling urban centers, where the streets are especially dangerous in the context of the pandemic. The two main issues that need to be addressed are how to make social distance possible for the homeless and how to pro

vide them with facilities where refugees have more access due to closure or lack of point after which many cities can model a stop gap measure, but the lack of access to sanitation for homeless people needs to be addressed. Establish sanitation stations and provide facilities that enable people to bathe and wash their hands for individual health and collectively reduce the transmission of COVID-19. Action needs to be taken at the federal level, far more broadly than just local and urban initiatives. The increase in the resources and funds available to the Department of Housing and Urban Development will result in a wide range of proposals and programs that can be of great benefit in increasing affordable housing. However, this does not necessarily change the role of individuals at the local level. There is a particularly important emphasis on the role that communities have surrounding this pandemic. These types of crises often bring out the worst in people because of the imminent danger that has been created by this virus. However, now is a time more crucial than ever to understand that community cooperation is vital to the success of these relief initiatives. Furthermore, this situation has the potential for a positive spillover effect much beyond the scope of this pandemic. Systemic issues-regarding both the support system for the homeless population and the ineffective strategies used by many municipalities to isolate the population, rather than actively working to integrate it-will hopefully be altered such that innovative, integrative strategies can be developed for long-term improvement.

Dr Ketan Talsaniya

Success Story : Journey of Dr Ketan Talsaniya Dr. Ketan Talsaniya’s journey is a story of determination and conviction. It’s about how a person from humble beginnings with limited means and exposure, has become a prominent name in Paranormal Vaastu in India and abroad. He was born in Dhandhuka Taluka about 100 kilometers from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India in a middle-class family. His father was a government servant and mother a housewife. His parents wanted him to study and get a good job. Dr. Ketan went on to become an electronics engineer. The saying, “One line in a book can change your life,” proved true in his life. An instance that occurred when he was eight years old, left an indelible impression on him. It was the festival of Holi and they were celebrating it by burning the pyre. An elderly woman was carrying food in a vessel. The children, one of whom was Dr. Ketan, approached the lady and asked for some food. Indian culture has always been about sharing and giving. We view children as the representatives of God. However, the lady had something other than this charitable belief on her mind.

She humiliated the children and hurt them with her rude comments. Dr. Ketan felt that he was treated in this manner because he came from such a humble background. Right then, he resolved to create an identity of his own. He decided that he would achieve great heights where people will come to him for guidance and help. However, the big question was, what would he do to become great? Napoleon Hill said, “Desire is the starting point of all achievement, not a hope, not a wish, but a keen pulsating desire.” Dr. Ketan kept alive his desire to achieve greatness. Even after he became an engineer, his desire for greatness continued. Yet, he still had no idea how he was going to achieve it. One of the qualities of an engineer is having an analytical mind. Dr. Ketan was curious about knowing new things. He came in touch with a person who read books on Astrology and Vaastu. He became curious about these subjects. No one in his family ever had anything to do with the occult sciences. As he explored the subject, his interested deepened. He started analysing the daily events in his life in terms of Astrology and Vaastu. JUNE 2021 094

Why did that person speak to me in a rude manner? What were the planetary positions due to which these things happened? When he visited someone’s house, other questions came to his mind. Why is this family having financial or health problems? He looked for answers to these questions in Astrology and Vaastu. The more he read, the more involved he became. He always felt that there was a super power or a guiding force, indicating things to him. There are times when the property is Vaastu-compliant, but the residents of that property are having financial, personal or health problems. He began his research into these matters. What is wrong and where? At this point in time, he came across Paranormal Vaastu. He undertook extensive research on industrial and residential properties and wrote a thesis on " An effect of Paranormal Activities in Vastu, and he received the degree of Doctorate in Vaastu Science. He is an inventor of Paranormal Vastu. After that, there was no stopping to him. Dr. Ketan has many World Records and Awards and appreciation to his name, (8 World Records and more than 100 Awards/Honoured) such as: Certification of Appreciation form Republic National Committee, U.S.A Presidential Advisory Board for Indian Ancient Science/Vedic Science Subjects, Mentor and Holding World Records. Ltd. etc. Dr. Ketan provides Vastu consultancy for Industries, Corporate, Residence and Paranormal Vaastu services to properties in India and abroad. Passion, perseverance, dedication and the blessings of God have made him achieve such great heights. His mission and vision is that those houses which have been built by the people by putting their life-capital and if it claims to be haunted then there is a huge loss for owner as well as the government of that country. His thinking is for world peace and humanity that no house in this beautiful world made by God, should not contain any atmosphere of desolation, sadness and negativity in any building. Every house should be full of happiness and every people of the country should be living with experience of auspicious ceremonies. May all be happy, healthy. May all dwellings and people living in those houses remain safe and peaceful. Today he is working to increase the spirits and motivate the talent of people in the society, Also give a help hand to someone who need help, and also feeding people with happiness of giving. Summary: Follow your dreams, desires and goal with Dedication, Determination, Social aspects and honesty. Keep hard working on it, do compete with yourself to do better than yesterday, don’t compete with others. When you compete with others, then you are likely to generate jealousy and hostility, which can cause your failure and cause change in your aim and direction of purpose of life. “Success is just around the corner."

Radhika Seth Influencer & Content Creator I Uttar Pradesh My journey is not a long one because I started with my influencer journey just back in Feb 2021 I belong to Business family where most of the days are spent struggling and fighting for livelihood and this taught me to be fighter to win the race, my parents have been a guide to me on all my decisions and yes that's also a key factor of my progress. I wasn't blank or clueless which is there

with most of the content creators and influencers. I knew that planning, putting and execution in the right way is the only key to success Initial phase went into lot of brainstorming sessions with my own self, research on what is happening in the field at present, its necessary to be in pace otherwise we'd loose a long leap.

JUNE 2021 098

Then came the most interesting phase that was testing, till now had not transformed my account into a professional but made it public and came up 3 posts that's needed to start the journey Felt like taking a step back then suddenly one night spent understanding which category out of 3 got me most insights and went on create more content in the same. And my decision of going back came down as I started to get people interact and like my content Then I came into full fledged mode to create atleast on piece of content everyday and put up. The next important phase was to understand Instagram insights and act accordingly, slowly and steadily I began to act on it. Started to post when my audience was most available also what my audience was willing to see and who was my Audience, and as it is rightly said *Slow and steady wins the race*, I gained my first 1k Family. Initially wasn't very clear with the idea of Collaboration, but then on advicing myself from some previous creators, I went on to collaborate with a fashion brand and switched on my professional account. Coming up with first brands post, the amount of love and support I received was tremendous and overwhelming, more and more collabs came my way. Lately I started doing a new experiment of series/episode for a particular thing, can be outfit, product or brands. The journey of almost 4k family wasn't so smooth, there was a phase where I couldn't get time from my job to create a new look or to put up Content for a long while.

With the second wave of Covid things weren't same anymore now, this time all social media content creator could do was to amplify request, needs or any medical conditions and this phase also made me do a bit of my social help as well as creating something to keep people sane and have something for them to take break. An advice to all those newbies that please just don't jump into the field of content creation and influencing because it isn't that easy deal, learn from already settled creators or grown creators and see how they paved their path to the success. Don't think of it as a cup of tea because that also requires dedication and commitment. You will not grow over night and you'll never gain in a go. Good things take time so learn, educate yourself understand your niche and deep dive to working hard because that's the only solution to great results, and yes patience is ultimate deal! Thinking of joining any profession without adequate knowledge is useless and similarly your education is also very important if you compromise on that you'll have to compromise whole way to get a reach on your goal. I hope my journey can be a source of inspiration for all newbie influencer and content creator and also a learning lesson. I'm free and most happy to help anyone. *Work hard and keep hustling you will win for sure!* My collaboration with *AHMP* was a very helpful phase in my growth, I went on to gain more of attention from other opportunities and growth Vaibhav has been such a dear person to me throughout and also even after, he made me introduce to so many other deals through SMMH Namaste India publishing is also one of the opportunity I have received through AHMP & SMMH

beauty products, food products, healthy products etc. Throughout the months, I have seen development and improvement on my page. My social network has grown internationally and since then, I have also made many friends. Though I wasn’t aware of things like how to put videos on my stories or to make reels as a food influencer. These were the few obstacles I had to face during the initial period of my journey. The fact that I’m married and also pursuing a language, these things never stopped me from becoming a food influencer, as I was also getting strong support from my husband.

How I started “Hungry and Cravings”?

“People who love to eat are always the best people.” This is my mantra from the starting. Hello people, I am Nishi, a food influencer on Instagram. From rainbow grilled cheese to taco pizzas, the world of Instagram has been taken over by foodies sharing their trendy, mouth-watering food photos with the world. My journey as a food influencer started last year (Year 2020) in lockdown. I have been a big foodie since I was a little kid and as I grew older, I started cooking and eventually it became my passion. During the lockdown, as everyone was getting tired of the boredom, some people were finding their hidden talent, and some were embracing their long-lost dreams. And that’s when I thought, it is the right time to start my journey as a food influencer. Initially, I’d post the pictures of my homemade food and soon I was getting more and more followers. Presently, we are the family of 9k plus followers. As I was increasing my family on Instagram, I got to know about the collaborations. At first, I approached a few brands to collaborate with me. Thereafter, as my page grew, the brands started approaching me for their promotions. I did the promotions for different kinds of products like

As a food influencer I would like to share some advice with you all like, once you have created your page, you should post regularly and be consistent with it. Interaction with your followers is also essential, keep them updated of what you have cooked. Last but not the least, patience is the key towards success. Don’t panic and keep calm and everything will go on smoothly. Whenever I hang out with my family or friends, the first thing comes out of my mouth after seeing my food is “wait, wait, wait, pehle mujhe pictures to click karne do!” (wait, wait, wait, let me click the pictures first!!) It is all thanks to my followers, who supported me in every phase of this journey of mine. My sisters have also made a huge contribution in keeping my page alive. Lastly, if you want to become an influencer, it doesn’t matter if it is for food, fitness, nutrition etc., everything will work out in the end. You might have to go through some obstacles but again as I said, patience is everything. All you need to do is work hard and the results will be in front of you.
