Namibia makes end Spring has arrived to winter time Farewell winter time. Namibians at 02:00 on Sunday will adjust their watches forward by one hour from winter time to summer time. This would be the last time to do so, as Namibia officially abolished winter time and would in the future stay at summer time which is Greenwich Mean Time (GMT+2).

The majority of Namibians in 2016 favoured summer time as the standard time for the country throughout the year and a bill was passed by both Houses of Parliament recently to replace the current Namibian Time Act which made provision since 1994 for summer time and winter time.
A four year old girl was run over by a drunk driver in Kuisebmond’s Sitrien Street on Wednesday afternoon. The girl, Shariqua Vania Fredericks, was rushed to the Welwitschia Private Hospital in a serious condition and sadly passed away shortly after being admitted. The driver, identified as 33-year old Tomas Isak drove a Mazda sevenseater under the influence of alcohol and he also did not have a driving license. He lost control of the vehicle in Sitrien Street and ran over Fredericks where she stood on the pavement with another young child. Izak was arrested and charged with culpable homicide, drunken driving and driving a vehicle without a valid driving license. Police reports suggest he already made a first appearance in the Walvis Bay magistrates court to face the mentioned three charges. Erwin Leuschner of the namib times Swakop office reports: The driver of a Nissan NP200, who was seriously injured during a partial head-on collision with a bus on Tuesday evening on the outskirts of Walvis Bay, has been transferred to a Windhoek hospital in a stable condition. The driver of the bus sustained minor injuries. The accident occurred on Tuesday evening at about 18:40 on the B2 highway between Swakopmund and Walvis Bay. Initial reports indicate that it was a partial head-on collision between the pick-up and a bus of Langer Heinrich Mine. Fortunately there were no other passengers in both vehicles. After the collision the bus veered off the road and crashed into some palm trees on the side of the road. The bus came to a standstill at the embankment. The road was blocked for several hours and members of the Walvis Bay Fire Brigade hat to use Jaws of Life to extricate the driver of the pick-up. The driver sustained fractures in both the left and right forearm, a lower leg fracture and a thigh fracture. He was initially admitted to the Walvis Bay State hospital in a critical but stable condition and was shortly thereafter transported to Windhoek for orthopaedic surgery.

follow, as the countdown to summer has begun. But before you pack away your warm clothes, keep in mind weather statistics from previous years suggest a few more chilly spells and of course the tell-tale strong South-westerly winds in the next few weeks until mid-November.
