Serial rapist lurking in Walvis Bay Piquet Jacobs

Walvis Bay residents are appalled at the news of a series of rape cases being investigated which involves five minor girls allegedly sexually assaulted by a resident of the town in a flat in the period June 2016 to June 2017. The outrage is amplified by the limited information available of the alleged suspect, who is known only by a first name "Mr Alex".

This unspeakable revelation was made by the parents of one of the minor girls, after they

seemingly grew suspicious of the girls' unaccounted whereabouts during some days over the time period in question. They investigated and made this nightmarish discovery.

When the truth came to light, the distressed parents immediately reported the matter to the police and laid charges on Friday.

It is alleged the suspect, only known to the girls as 'Mr Alex', would pick them up in Kuisebmond on several occasions and take them to an apartment where he would then have sex with them and perform various sexual acts with

them. It is not yet clear whether there were rewards such as money or other material things to motivate the girls to concede to the sexual inter-course.

The girls, three of whom are 16-years-old and two being 15-years-old, are pupils ranging from Gr. 6 to Gr. 9; though two are currently not enrolled in school. The matter has been confirmed by Detective Inspector Daniel Gurirab of the Namibia Police Force, who expressed the severity of the situation.

"The victims have named a man known to them only as Mr Alex, making it difficult to identify the suspect, but we are following up on leads and information given by the girls.

We are hard at work with the investigation to bring the culprit behind this truly upsetting matter to justice," Gurirab commented.

Germany and Namibia: sixth round of negotiations The Special Envoys of Namibia and Germany, Dr Zed Ngavirue and Ruprecht Polenz met from 28 to 29 September 2017 in Berlin for their sixth round of negotiations.

“My bank account emptied in seconds” Erwin Leuschner

A Swakopmund resident claims to have lost his entire salary from his FNB Gold Account last week, after his account was hacked and "emptied within seconds".

The forensic department of the bank is still investigating how the culprits, who allegedly withdrew the money in France, managed to gain access to the secure information.

According to the resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, the theft took place as he was doing shopping in a supermarket in the coastal town on Wednesday evening – shortly after his salary was deposited into his account. "I purchased groceries and swiped my card. After swiping I immediately started receiving SMS's from the bank", he explained to namib times.

The SMS's from the bank showed various amounts of money being withdrawn and even though he has a daily limit on the account the SMS's did not stop. "One second I received an SMS indicating N$5 000 being withdrawn, then N$7 000, seconds later another one showed N$2 000 and then N$9 000. It was various random amounts being withdrawn continuously. This continued until the last SMS said there are insufficient funds", he said. "I panicked."

Initially the resident phoned the local FNB branch but there was no answer. He finally reached the FNB bank in South Africa where his card was immediately blocked. But it was too late. His account was emptied.

The next day he went to the local FNB branch where he was informed that the money was withdrawn somewhere in France. "I was told that the culprits must have been in possession of my bank card which was impossible", he continued. A bank official informed him that the case will now be investigated. It can take between four and six weeks.

"I was also told that this is not an isolated case".

Apparently, the culprits are specifically targeting Gold and Platinum FNB clients. "I am still stumped how this was possible, especially since I have a daily withdrawal limit", the victim concluded.

The bank could also not yet give him any indication as to how the culprits managed to hack his account.

In the meantime, the client had to apply for an overdraft facility to ensure his debit orders are honoured.

"We are still working with our forensics department (regarding the above)", said Hilma Petrus, Internal Communications Specialist at FNB Namibia Holdings, to namib times. She did not elaborate.

Namport celebrates World Elders Day in style "Never forget those who walked the path of life before you". These words were spoken on Friday by Mr. Bernhard Tsanigab, the Vice President of the Namibia Senior Citizens Movement at the occasion of festivities held for senior citizens by the Namibia Ports Authority (Namport). Namport treated senior citizens as part of World Elders Day. Senior citizens from all fourteen of Namibia's regions attended. A tour of the port of Walvis Bay and the opportunity to see the gigantic container vessel COSCO Kawasaki on her maiden call steaming into port were part of the festivities.

Miss Taná Pesat, Namport's corporate communications manager, said the ports authority was honoured to host the elderly of the country, specifically on this important day when the elderly people in our society are recognised.

Pesat requested the elders to spread the message of Namport's achievements in their respective communities.

Senior citizens were treated to a delicious meal.

World Elders Day is celebrated each year on 1 October. This year's celebration was held under the theme "Stepping into the Future: Tapping the Talents, Contributions and Participation of Older Persons in Society".

Man murdered after insulting two men Piquet Jacobs

Two men have been arrested and charged with the murder of a 31-year-old man in Kuisebmond on Sunday. The man was murdered in what was described as a “brutal attack”.

The incident, which allegedly took place at around 11:30 on Sunday morning in Tutaleni, was allegedly in reaction to the murder victim, Aaron Ruhozu, insulting the two suspects.

An argument ensued which then took a turn for the worst when the suspects attacked Ruhozu with sticks.

The attack turned more violent as the suspects began to stomp and kick Ruhozu. The suspects continued the cold-blooded beating, which lead to Ruhozo's death.

The pair, 27-years-old and 28-years-old respectively, will appear in the Walvis Bay magistrates court today on a charge of murder.

The alleged murder follows only days after residents of the coast congregated in Swakopmund and formed a human chain to show discontent with the sensless murders that plague the coast in recent months.

Romanus Mandume Avelinus (21) appeared on charges of kidnapping, rape and unlaw-ful carnal intercourse with a girl under the age of sixteen. The matter was postponed to 8 February for continuation of trial. The accused is on bail of N$2 000.

Johannes Uusiku (30) appeared on charges of housebreaking with intent to steal and theft, and theft of a motor vehicle. The matter was postponed to 1 December for tracing of accused. The accused is on bail of N$5 000.

Samuel Amupolo (42) appeared on a charge of murder. The matter was postponed to 19 January 2018 for continuation of trial. The accused have been warned.

Magistrate Court Andreas Abnor (18) appeared on a charge of murder. The matter was postponed to 4 December for further investigation. The accused is on bail of N$2 000.

Fiona Pienaar (24) appeared on charged of theft and forgery, and uttering a forged instrument. The matter was postponed to 17 April 2018 for plea and trial. The accused is on bail of N$3 000.

Rudia Rutz (23) and Audry Anthea Garoes (25) appeared on a charge of theft.

The matter was postponed to 30 October for further investigation. The accused is on bail of N$10 000 each.

Karrel Julius Pandukeni (30) appeared on

a charge of murder. The matter was postponed to 4 December for further investigation. The accused is on bail of N$2 000.

Desmond Owos-oab (19) appeared on a charge of rape. The matter was postponed to 9 November for further investigation. The accused remains in custody.

Enginie Gawes (39) appeared on a charge of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

The matter was postponed to 24 October for legal aid. The accused remains in custody.

Mills Freddy (44) appeared on charges of driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor and driving with an excessive breath alcohol level. The matter was postponed to 10 October for fixing of trial date. The accused is on bail of N$4 000.

Victor Shambo (69) appeared on charges of culpable homicide and driving with an excessive blood-alcohol level. The matter was postponed to 11 October for legal aid. The accused is on bail of N$5 000.

Kobus Kotze (54) appeared on charges of driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor and driving with an excessive breath alcohol level. The matter was postponed to 7 March for trial. The accused is on bail of N$4 000.

A 13-year-old boy appeared on a charge of rape. The matter was postponed to 4 December for legal aid. The accused was released in care of guardian.

Petrus Shaanika (29) appeared on charge of forgery and uttering a forged instrument. The matter was postponed to 19 February 2018 for plea and trial. The accused is on bail of N$1 000.

Bernadidus Haraeb (36) appeared on a charge of pointing a fire-arm read with the provisions of the domestic violence act, act 4 of 2003. The matter was postponed to 21 February because the magistrate was not available. The accused is on bail of N$2 000.

Erwin Katjitua (32) appeared on charges of malicious damage to property, common assault and assault by threat. The matter was postponed to 8 November for continuation of trial. The accused remains in custody.

Daniel Stephanus (24), Simon Jerobeam (24) and Fabian Lazarus (24) appeared on charges of murder and housebreaking with intent to rob and robbery. The matter was postponed to 6 December for further investigation. The accused remains in custody.

“Makalanis” to be registered as legitimate business people Sharlien Tjambari

The Swakopmund municipality last week had a meeting with the so-called Makalani sellers or African curio vendors to discuss the process of having all of them registered and to also establish the areas where they should operate from. The municipality wishes to educate the Makalani sellers on their duties as citizens of the town.

The meeting was spearheaded by the Health Services Department.

Close to 20 Makalani sellers, who usually operate at tourists hot-spots in town, attended the meeting. According to an official from the Health Services Department the recent meeting was actually a follow-up meeting.

The first gathering with the Makalani sellers was held on 6 September.

The follow-up meeting took place after the "Makalanis" received a police clearance certificate in order for the Swakopmund Municipality to ensure that they do not have criminal records.

"Most of the guys came with a police clearance certificate and during the course of this week or next week they will come to us and we will register them as legitimate Makalani sellers", said the Health Official.

Currently the "Makalanis" are only allowed to operate at the aquarium, Kavita Park and at the Amphitheatre opposite Café Anton. They are not allowed to roam around town, which they in many cases do.

The Health official added that another meeting will soon be conducted once the municipality received police clearances from all Makalani sellers. The municipality will then explain to the small businesspeople where they are allowed to operate from.

According to Warrant Officer Ileni Shapumba of Nampol's Community Policing Department, the Makalani sellers are seen as very important people when it comes to crime prevention. "Once they are empowered they will be able to report information regarding crime similar to car guards", he said.

Shoplift prevention Train your employees to be courteous and alert. A thief who thinks that he or she is being watched is less likely to steal. Take steps to prevent shoplifting. It's easier and safer to prevent shoplifting than it is to deal with a shoplifter.

Know the signs of shoplifting. Watch for someone who: · Seems nervous. · Avoids eye contact. · Wanders around the store without buying anything. · Leaves the store and returns to your business repeatedly in a short period of time. · Stays in an area of your business where he or she is hard to see. · Keeps watching you or is constantly looking around.

Use simple measures to discourage shoplifting.

For example: · Stay alert at all times. · Be friendly and polite to all customers.

Ask customers if they need help.

Keep your business neat, clean and orderly.

Know where shoplifting is most likely to occur in your business.

Know what to do if shoplifting occurs. Play it safe. · Never accuse anyone of stealing. · Never try to physically stop a shoplifter. · Never lock the door to keep a shoplifter from leaving. · Never chase a shoplifter out of your place of business. · Remain at least an arm's length away from the shoplifter.

Follow your instincts. Don't continue to confront a shoplifter if you start to feel frightened or uneasy. Get help when it's safe to do so. Call the police if you sense a threat of violence. Your personal safety is always more important.

The Namibian Police was in for a bad day. One of the force's patrol vans was damaged on Friday afternoon when a truck turned left from 6th Street into Rikumbi Kandanga Avenue. The truck turned too short and hit the police vehicle which was in the left lane.

Traffic was disrupted for the duration of the time police officials attended to the accident scene.

COSCO Shipping Lines is now including Walvis Bay as port of call for its regular cargo schedule. The shipping line's first vessel to call at the port of Walvis Bay was COSCO Kawasaki that tied up alongside at 11:15 on Saturday.

Chinese nationals ACC raids Usakos injured in accident Town Council on C35 Sharlien Tjambari

A Chinese national sustained serious injury in an accident on the C35 gravel road between Uis and Khorixas on Saturday, at about 13:20. Two other occupants, also Chinese nationals, sustained minor and no injuries respectively.

According to a report released by the Police in Erongo, the accident occurred about 53 kilometers from Uis. The driver of the white Toyota station wagon, Mr Chao Pek Sim (45), allegedly lost control over the vehicle in a sharp curve resulting in the car leaving the road and overturning.

The female passenger, Ms Kou Un Man (35) was seriously injured and dislocated her left shoulder. She was initially admitted at the Uis clinic for medical assistance, but was later transferred to the Cottage MediClinic at Swakopmund for further medical treatment.

LifeLink Paramedics from Henties Bay assisted. The male passenger, Mr Leong Lok San, did not sustain any injuries.

The offices of the Usakos town council was raided by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) last week: computers and cellphones belonging to the council as well as some employees were confiscated. This was revealed to namib times by a source from Usakos.

According to the source, employees of the ACC were allegedly seen at the Usakos town council sometime last week.

The officials were seen carrying computers and documents from the council's offices to a pick-up vehicle.

Usakos town council has recently made news headlines with allegations of corrupt land, deals as well as allegations of corruption within the council. Questions were raised about the employment of staff members, citing allegations of nepotism. Similarly there have been rumours about the CEO not meeting the requirements of the position.

An official from the ACC confirmed the raid to namib times, but declined to provide details. All further inquiries were referred to the ACC's public relations officer. At the time of going to press this official was yet to respond.

Usakos town council was also contacted for comment, but also declined disclosing any information.

VW-sedan stuck on beach during launch of jet-ski

A VW Jetta Blue Motion caused quite a stir over the weekend when it got stuck on the beach at the Mole on Saturday morning. The driver apparently wanted to launch a jet-ski at the boat launch, but got stuck.

Lucky for the driver, Mr Tommy Collard of Tommy's Living Desert Tours was quickly on scene and assisted the driver.

The VW Jetta was still in a drivable

condition after it was pulled from the sand. A photo showing the stuck vehicle caused quite a stir on social media, some people calling the sedan the new "Blue Ocean".

Train accident victim dies Namport commissions A case of culpable homicide has been opened following the death of Ignatius Jazikama Hindjou (37), who was severely injured on Monday morning in a train accident at Walvis Bay. Hindjou was the sole occupant and driver of the sedan vehicle struck by a train and dragged for at least 100 meters, after impact. The incident occurred around 08:00 at the Hannah Mupetami railway crossing. It is believed Hindjou did not see the oncoming train which was approaching the station from the direction of the Kuisebmond siding. Hindjou sustained serious injuries and had to be stabilised inside the vehicle first before he could be extricated from the wreckage.

Warrant of arrest issued for Henties Bay mayor A warrant of arrest was issued for Henties Bay mayor Herman Honeb on Wednesday this week, after he failed to appear in the Swakopmund magistrate's court on a charge of receiving a cattle carcass without any document or identification to confirm the origin of the meat.

Honeb's co-accused in the matter, Walter "Lekkerlag" Hoeseb (37), was also absent and a warrant of arrest was also issued in his name.Honeb was arrested in June after he allegedly received the full carcass from Hoeseb and sold it for N$4 000.

Hoeseb was charged with the delivery of meat without proper documents and has an additional charge of defeating the course of justice. He allegedly handed in a hide that was not from the carcass as well as false ear tags in order to mislead the police investigating officer.

The ports authority revised and upgraded its Drug & Alcohol Policy which now makes provision for a zero tolerance of alcohol and drugs.Said Namport's public relations department: "This new measure (gate) was necessitated by the revised Drug & Alcohol Policy which advocates for zero tolerance on drug and alcohol use within the port and gives the Security Division full authority to implement the policy through daily compulsory testing for all.

51-year old arrested after stealing identity of Oshakati businessman The Namibian Police has arrested a 51-year old man who stole a record amount of N$4 million from a business person, after first stealing the victim's identity. Nelson Potifar Kazombiaze remains in custody after bail was denied at the Swakopmund Magistrates Court recently.

According to Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu, police regional crime investigations coordinator for Erongo, Kazombiaze has been charged with fraud, forgery and uttering a forged instrument. It is alleged that the suspect initially obtained an ID duplicate of Mr Kefas Stefanus, a business man from Oshakati, from Home Affairs.With the duplicate ID, he managed to obtain a duplicate of the victim's Standard Bank credit card from the Maerua Mall Standard Bank Branch in Windhoek. This allegedly happened on 5 September.The suspect also allegedly forged the complainant's signature and increased the daily withdrawal limit of the victim's account to N$100 000. "The suspect withdrew money at various ATM's in Windhoek and transferred some money to different accounts totaling about N$4 million,"Iikuyu said.

Parking in Swakopmund goes hi-tech Erwin Leuschner

After years of headaches with parking and car guards in Swakopmund, the town council has taken a decision at last to introduce a new parking management system. Instead of car guards, Swakopmund will soon feature "parking marshals". Parking marshals is a familiar face in major cities in South Africa.

The system was discussed at the recent council meeting. It was proposed by a certain Mr N.A. McClune. McClune conducted a survey regarding the willingness of the community and businesses to use the parking management system. He received overwhelming support.

The proposed system features a parking marshal who operates a park, pay and display terminal. When the motorist parks a vehicle in the parking bay, the marshal captures the vehicle's registration number and explains the system to the driver. The driver pays for the estimated time to be spent in the parking bay. The handheld terminal issues a ticket which the motorist displays on the dashboard of the vehicle.

The new system is similar to the handheld parking system which was implemented in 2000 in various cities in South Africa. The system proposed for Swakopmund is regarded as the most advanced handheld parking system available on the market.

Once the driver returns, the actual time the

vehicle was parked is determined. If the vehicle was parked for a longer period initially paid for, the shortfall is paid in. Once the driver leaves the parking bay, the marshal "unlocks" the vehicle on the handheld terminal.

"It is clear that business owners and the community support the parking management system (and want it) to be implemented as soon as possible", states the council meeting agenda.

Current car guards will be integrated to operate the system. After receiving training, they will be employed as parking marshals in the central business district.

The Swakopmund traffic section engaged with the City of Cape Town, where the system has been implemented with great success.

The initial investment by McClune to introduce this system is estimated at N$1.5 million.

Council approved the introduction of the new parking management system for a 36-month trial period. Furthermore, it was decided the municipality monitors the management of this system and submit a report to council every three months.

MTC clients not happy with the increase in subscription fees Sharlien Tjambari namib times received complaints about MTC's subscription fees which increased since August. They felt this was done without notification. A lady who first brought up this topic claims her internet subscription fees went up by N$70 while her cell phone subscription charges went up with N$10.

Another also said she is on a two year fixed contract agreement with MTC. She claims no communication was given about the increase. namib times send out questions to MTC's Corporate and Communications Department to investigate where the problem lies. Also to test claims by clients that they have not received any notification whatsoever.

MTC responded: "we have notified our customers at the beginning of May of the subscription fees increase, effective as of 1 June 2017 for pre-paid customers and 1 July 2017 for post-paid. The announcements were done by means of an SMS sent out to all of our consumers, plus adverts were also placed in newspapers (namib times included) and across our digital platforms i.e. social media and the website". [Many people however say they never received a text message about the increase in subscription that reads the newspapers].

The Corporate and Communications Department also said increases apply to all customers both pre-paid and post-paid. "There was no any increase in the month of August. The subscription fees increase was effective from 1 June 2017 for pre-paid and 1 July 2017 for post-paid customers" MTC said.

Should the customers have experienced abnormal data usage during the month of August or any other time, MTC urges them to visit the nearest MTC Mobile Home and their agents will be ready to assist them. Two weeks ago, all MTC's clients across the country were treated with 300 MB of free data without any additional costs added.

This was a surprise to many.

The Walvis Bay Equestrian Centre once again has the honour to host the FEI World Dressage Challenge. This event will take place from 6-8 October 2017. The level has been raised yet again this year, which is a great challenge to all our Namibian riders.

Namibia currently has only 5 athletes who are graded as M- riders or higher, the level at which the FEI WCH-D starts for the adult riders. Yet we have 7 riders entered for that class and 2 riders even for the Advanced Class, which is yet one level higher. This is evidence that the Namibian Dressage riders aren't scarred of a challenge and are eager to prove what they can do.

The aim of this Competition is to give the Dressage riders who live in the more remote countries, the opportunity to compete internationally without having to leave their own country.

The Competition offers five performance levels and two age groups (12-16 years; 16 years and older). The levels are Elementary (12-16 years), Medium, Advanced, Prix St Georges and Intermediate 1. Unfortunately we did not receive any entries for the last two classes, as those levels are slightly out of our reach right now.

THE JUDGES This year we are very excited to welcome as International judge Mrs Anita Adendorff from South Africa and our very own National Judge Mrs Alexandra Röhl.

This competition is for riders younger than 14 years who can compete in either the Bronze, Silver or Gold Tour.

We are very excited that we have 3 very promising young riders who will attempt to jump the very daunting 1.20m courses of the Gold Tour in an attempt to qualify for the finals in Beijing at the end of this year. As with the dressage, the level of competition is very high in all three Tours. However, we are very confident that all our riders, in all three Tours will do well and will place high in the world ranking list.

At this point we'd like to thank everybody who made it possible for us to host this event. The ChIC's require a bigger jumping arena, and it took some hard work and lots of money t o build this arena so that this event can take place.

The annual biking event that brings hundreds of motorcycle enthusiasts and riders from all over the country as well as neighbouring countries, was held over the weekend and once again did not disappoint.

Bikes, burnouts and leather jackets took over Walvis Bay over the weekend, as the town welcome bikers from all over the country, as well as South Africa, for the most anticipated biking event at the coast. Celebrating their 18th year of

biking festivities at the coast, the Fish Eagle Rally was even bigger and better. Crowds were at the edge of their seats during the thrilling drag race and watching stunt men in action. This event generates greatly needed funds annually to make a difference in the community.

Women to lead Kickboxing

The Namibian Kickboxing Federation saw a historic moment recently with six of its seven committee members women. The committee was selected on 26 September on an extraordinary congress and governs kickboxing in Namibia.

Differences between the Namibian Kickboxing Federation and the Namibian Martial Arts Federation were solved after intervention by the Namibia Sports Commission (NSC).

Last year’s meetings were held between the two sport codes at the offices of the NSC in Windhoek to solve the problems within the codes. At the last meeting that was held at the end of June this year the NSC gave the sport codes 90 days to sort out their differences.

These two codes held a meeting at the offices of the sport officer of the Ministry of Sport, Youth and National Service in Walvis Bay. At this meeting the members of the Namibian Martial Arts Federation decided it will be just good for kickboxing in the country if all the clubs affiliate under the Namibian Kickboxing Federation.

This Federation has a very good standing with the NSC. At the same meeting, an interim management was

Emil Dorgeloh and Danie Greeff beat Supatronix: Ze de Britto and Sergio Figueiredo 3-0. With these 2 it's easy to report, just have to hit the repeat key.

Men's B Section, Blackie Zwart and Pieter Beukes beat Itchy and Scratchy: Jakkie Nel and Ricardo von Stein 3-1. It was by no means an easy match, but Blackie and Pieter had a positive current flowing between them and pulled off a good result.

Ockie du Plesses and Floris Steenkamp beat JC Platt and Tilden Smith 3-0. Ockie du Plesses and Floris Steenkamp probably blew JC Platt and Tilden Smith away. Magic Discounters: Poena Olivier and Edwin van Urkbt Luke and Jon Allen 3-1. It's always going to be a tall order to stop a duo who has magic on their side.

Mixed A Section.

Emil Dorgeloh and Chantel de Gouveia beat Imanuel Amorongo and Christelle Eiman 3-0.

1st Guarding: Eric Mans and Jenny beat Lindsay Lottering and Sam Webster 3-0. Eric and Jen blindsided Lindz and Sam with some incredible play.

Mixed B Section.

Alan and Heibri-Ann Hartung beat Liandro Martins and Jacoline Oelofse 3-2. This must have been an awesome match. A great result for Alan and Heibri. Charlton Brussel and Zeenad Martins beat Michail Pretorius and Amy Volker 3-0. Charl Zee are going great guns at the moment, riding the crest of the wave with 3 good wins under the belt.

Zola Nel and Christo van Wyk beat Lindi Dreyer and Gabriela 3-0. Zola and Christo made sure they got things back on track with this win. Jaco de Jager and Anna Maria Venter beat Cindy Kruger and Doyle de Haas 3-0. Jaco and Anna placed their shots well to notch up an important and excellent result to also keep them at top of the table.

Eleven Arrows won Dinolo Super Netball Tournament Sharlien Tjambari

Saturday 30th September 2017, at the Vineta Sports Stadium in the coastal town of Swakopmund Eleven Arrows netball team (Erongo Region) was crowned the champions of the 2017 Dinolo Super Netball Tournament after beating Composit Depot netball team (Khomas Region) 28-26 in the final.

African Deli launched its Dinolo Super Netball Tournament in the Khomas Region on 24 June 2017. The trip to all the regions was exciting and overwhelming. The regional local teams battled for the first place, which allowed the winners to make it to the finals in Swakopmund.

The Dinolo Super Netball Tournament is part of the corporate social investment program of African Deli. Through this initiative, we brought women together to have fun and at the same time allowing them and their supporters an opportunity to interact with us. African Deli has committed itself towards the development of netball in the country, through the Dinolo Super Netball Tournament.

We at African Deli understand the importance of physical well-being through sports. Therefore, we bring the communities together to enjoy this adrenaline-pumping sport event. For netball enthusiasts, this

is not only an adventure, but also a great way to keep fit. One of African Deli's prime intentions of travelling to all the 14 regions were to give everyone who attended a day of fun and excitement, at the same time scout for talented players for our National Team.

African Deli is a new homegrown start-up, founded in January 2013 as a food manufacturer that provides quality, healthy, good affordable and convenient ready-made traditional food.

The core of our project is directly tied to the heartbeat of our National Development goals namely the "Growth at Home Strategy" and the "Harambee Prosperity Plan".

The Representative of Netball in Erongo Region, Vonney Booysen, said netball is the number one women sport in the country and thank African Deli for the initiative to invest in netball in the country. Only 11 of the 14 regions in the country turned-up for the finals in Swakopmund. They competed for the bragging rights to be the first winners of the Dinolo Super Netball cup.

The winners of group A was Shining Stars and with Gobabis Correctional Facility as the runners-up and Eleven Errows the winners of group B with Composit Depot the runners-up.

Shining Stars lost to Composit Depot 41-19 and Eleven Errows beat Gobabis Correctional Facility 33-25 in their respective semi-finals.

Gobabis Correctional Facility beat Shining Stars 33-23 for the third place and Eleven Errows beat Composit Depot 28-26 for the first place and the price money of N$15 000. Composit Depot received N$10 000 and Goba-bis Correctional Services N$ 5 000

The Founder and Chief Executive Officer of African Deli (Pty) Ltd, Silvanus Kathindi said this was their very first tournament and they hope that next year it will be bigger and better.

"We visited all the regions, we went as far as Nkurenkuru in Kavango West were there was not netball field and we had to rake and make a netball court so that we select the best netball team in that region. We visited each and every region and we are proud to see that out of 14 regions, 11 showed up for the Tournament and only Zambezi, Omusati and Oshikoto that didn't make it".
