The Joint Venture Zhong Mei Engineering Group (Pty) Ltd, which is upgrading the road between Swakopmund and Henties Bay, is in arrears with its rental of land for its construction camp. Council now granted permission for it to continue leasing the land, but only if it settles the amount in arrears which was determined as N$139 807-80. According to the minutes of the recent Council meeting, Zhong Mei Engineering (Z-
MEG) was initially granted the site in February 2015 for the establishment of a construction camp.
Back then Zhong Mei was conducting the upgrade of the NamWater water pipeline. This project in the
meantime concluded. When the company was successful in its bid for the road construction project, the lease was extended as the construction camp was ideally located and already had the necessary infrastructure like stores and workshops in place.
Moreover, there were no public complaints over the existence or the activities at the construction site and it was decided it would only be an unnecessary duplication to have the company bid for a new construction camp site and having to move all the infras-
tructure and equipment, it is understood from information contained in the minutes of the Council meeting. In February 2016 Town Council approved the extension of the lease period for a further two years, until 2018. By this time, Continues on Page 2
