Swakopmund municipality’s Acting CEO inside LHU Swartz arrested for drunken driving innoStaff Reporter
The Swakopmund municipality's Acting Chief Executive Officer, Marco Swartz, was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of an intoxicating liquor on Wednesday evening. He made a first court appearance in the Swakopmund magistrates court yesterday morning. Details about what exactly led to the arrest remain sketchy at this time, as various senior officials were not available for comment. According to an anonymous source Swartz was arrested on his way back home from the Rossmund Golf Club at around 21:00. The Swakopmund municipal traffic department, the Namibian Police and the Swakopmund Neighborhood Watch con-
ducted a joint traffic operation on Wednesday night. Sources revealed the police set-up a roadblock on the B2 highway east of Swakopmund. Various drivers approaching Swakopmund turned off just before the roadblock onto the bypass road leading east of DRC – this allegedly included Swartz. Little did these drivers know there was a second road-block on this bypass road. According to sources Swartz was stopped by a
junior traffic officer. Due to the high-profile case a senior traffic official, Appolus Motinga, was called to the scene. Motinga could not be reached for comment yesterday. Swartz was requested to undergo a breathalyzer test. It was understood by namib times his reading was 0.8 milligrams per 1000 milliliters of breath. The legal limit is 0.37 milligrams per 1000 milliliters.
Manganese in water- vates NOT toxic The Municipality of Walvis Bay released a public notice on Wednesday in regard to the recent discolouration of water in Walvis Bay. According to the notice, the discolouration and possible low water pressure in some areas is as a result of restoration done to a break in NamWater's supply pipe on Wednesday and caused the water to have higher levels of manganese. Manganese is a mineral that naturally occurs in rocks and soil and may also be present due to under-ground pollution sources. Manganese is fre-

What was supposed to be a special day-trip for Suné January, Miss Namibia 2017, visiting the coast turned sour for her on Monday when she fell victim to a smash-and-grab incident. January travelled to Walvis Bay along with her grandmother, younger sister and cousins on Monday for the day. Whilst in the harbour town, they also drove through to Dune 7. Upon their return to Swakopmund, they stopped
north of Langstrand on the dirt road that leads in the direction of Patrysberg. They were travelling in her official vehicle, which is branded "Miss Namibia". They walked to the water. Upon their return they discovered to their
shock the vehicle's driver's window was smashed. It was clearly a smashand-grab incident which now has become a frequent occurance between Walvis Bay and Swakopmund. Continued on page 2
