Omulondo residents says Rent-a drum does Sharlien Tjambari not collect refuse Residents of Swakopmund, Mondesa's Omulondo suburb are not happy with the services provided by Swakopmund Rent-a-drum. Renta-drum truck allegedly does not collect refuse from the yellow bins as they should and no reasonable excuse was given to the residents and now their bins are overflowing with recycling materials and they do not know what to do.

“We were issued with these yellow bins five or six weeks ago, the instructions said we should take these bins out on the days that the municipal refuse truck come to collect their refuse because the refuse from the yellow bins will be collected on that same day as well, but that has not been the case as we have to pull back the full bins every afternoon because they have not been collected. I see the truck collecting the refuse in other areas of town, but not from our Omulondo location and this is not good at all” says the devastated lady who identified herself as Getrude.

After a thorough investigation namib times came to learn that many of the residents’ yellow bins are indeed overflowing with trash, and also found out that many have also gone back to the old ways of throwing recycling material in the municipal refuse bin because the yellow bins are full. Another lady in her late 50's asked “why did they bring us these bins? We have put in so much effort in using these bins but if the people responsible for these bins are not collecting the bins weekly then what should we do? Again this week have gone by today is Thursday and they were supposed to collect yesterday but they did not come.”

Some residents feel that services offered to residents in Mondesa are not of equal value to the services offered in other suburbs “I am a domestic worker and I see how my employers’ bins are emptied on a weekly basis and my recycling bin have not been collected since I received it, this is the thing that makes me very angry” says Meme Alma a resident of Omulondo, Mondesa.

have one truck for household refuse and it was broken for a couple of weeks but the truck is up and running now “that area is the biggest area and the driver can't always finish it in one day so he will be there the next day. We want to encourage people to recycle so we will definitely make a plan to cover all the areas on the same day and if somehow we do not show up that day people should please leave their bins outside for the next day, because the truck might come the following day” adds Louw.

Louw further said it is nice to see that Swakopmund in a few months, since they started with the household recycling initiative, Swakopmund household recycling average went up to 55 tons per month compared to Windhoek household recycling that started in 2010 already whose average is at 105 tons a month.

Swakopmund might very soon get security cameras in various public spaces to enhance the safety and security of residents as well as visitors. A pilot project in this regard will soon be initiated by the Police Public Relations Committee (PPRC), said the committee's chairperson Anett Kötting to namib times.

Although the project is still in its infancy the Management Committee (MC) of the Swakopmund Town Council has approved a trial run. “We will put up a few cameras at some spots and after a month hand in a report to the MC,” Kötting said. It is the intention to initially install a few cameras where there is a lot of movement in town, where after the project will be expanded to cover the whole town.

“We have had various meetings and have identified a supplier for the cameras. We have also had a meeting with the Magistrates Office and it was determined that the quality of the footage will be sufficient to be admissible in the Court of Law,” she added. The Police Public Relations Committee has also identified a source of funding for the project. Should the trial run prove successful and Council indeed grants permission to formally launch the project, a safety and security fund will be established. “Residents might then get charged a small amount of N$1 or N$2 on their monthly municipal bill. The money will be used to fund the project and enhance the safety and security of the town,” she said.

Kötting continued saying that it is the intention to keep the project small, but effective. “We do not want it to end up like the City Police (in Windhoek) which costs a lot of money,” she said. The money generated with the fund can also be used for other safety measures. As an example she stated that the money could be used to buy bicycles for police officers to monitor and patrol the streets.

The full statement reads: “Following the meeting at Walvis Bay, the Fishermen had given the Government up until the 2nd of October 2016 to address their concerns. The 2nd came and went without any response whatsoever from Government's side or any attempts to engage with the fishermen. The fishermen will be in Labour Court from 10 – 17 October with the various fishing companies involved in order to try and reach an amicable solution to this longstanding dispute. It is my hope that following these proceedings in the Labour Court, a resolution will be reached that will see the fishermen resume duty before the next cycle of boats go out to sea.

We strongly plead on all parties involved in the labour matter to approach the case in good faith and to set their pride aside and genuinely seek a lasting solution to this problem which could have potentially devastating effects on the lives of fishermen nationwide and severely impact on unemployment and poverty in Namibia. Should these proceedings prove unsuccessful, then the Party will resume its previously stated action of calling for and mobilizing not only a fishing industry strike, but a national unemployment march.”

Sedan crashes through barrier, ends up in the ocean Erwin Leuschner Two occupants of a white sedan vehicle managed to miraculously escape with minor cuts and bruises on Tuesday evening after the vehicle they were travelling in crashed through the barrier on the B2 highway between Swakopmund and Walvis Bay and ended up in the ocean.

According to initial reports, the vehicle was heading towards Swakopmund when the car veered off the road at about 20:30 at the socalled wall close to Vierkantklip, destroying a stretch of the barrier and tumbling a few metres down into the sea. While the passenger was assisted on scene by Eagle Ambulance and Rescue Services, the driver was allegedly arrested for suspected driving under the influence of alcohol. The cause of the accident remains unknown, although speeding is suspected to have contributed to the incident.

On Wednesday morning a large amount of curious passer-by's stopped at the accident scene to get a glimpse of the wreck still lying in the ocean. No traffic official was on the scene to manage and warn cars driving past. The wreck was partially moved on Tuesday evening, but due to rough seas recovery attempts could only be resumed on Wednesday.

Statistics shows that in Swakopmund circuit, a total number of 335 teachers casted their votes of which 306 voted in favour of the strike, in Walvis Bay circuit about 268 teachers voted of which 254 voted in favour of the strike and in Omaruru circuit 320 voted of which 290 voted in favour of the strike.

Overall 92.1% of teachers in Erongo were in favour of the strike.

British naval supply ship here on Monday

The Royal Fleet Auxiliary ship RFA Gold Rover calls at the port of Walvis Bay on Monday. The vessel is a small fleet tanker ship supplying vessels of the Royal Navy in the South Atlantic. RFA Gold Rover has made similar calls to ports in Ghana and Angola as well as South Africa 's Simonstown naval base earlier this year. It has a contingent of Royal Marines on board which engages in military related exercises with their counterparts in these countries. It is expected the Royal Marines will also liaise with the Namibian Marines battalion at Walvis Bay. The commanding officer of RFA Gold Rover is Captain Richard Taylor.

Numbering of Swakopmund taxis progressing well

The Swakopmund municipality is happy with the numbering process of taxis in town, saying that the co-operation of drivers/taxi owners has been excellent.

To date more than 200 taxis have been registered, which have subsequently been equipped with an identification number on the

side.

Similar to the numbering system taxis now boast visible blue letters and introduced a few years ago in the numbers. The cut-off date for the numbering for capital Windhoek, Swakopmund's taxis is 31 October. Residents have applauded the initiative, saying that numbered taxis increase the safety and security. Taxis not yet registered are actually losing out on business as commuters prefer vehicles which have been registered. The municipality has introduced

two standby numbers (081 122 4677/9), where residents can raise concerns or voice opinions regarding taxis. The municipality currently has a database of 300 registered taxis.

The Mayor Paulina Nashilundo believes that illegal operations will be reduced with this initiave, while illegal operations will be eliminated.

“The topic of hawkers or Makalani sellers and street kids is a vicious circle. Even the police doesn't know what to do anymore,” said Kötting. The Police Public Relations Committee was revived a few months ago and recently had another meeting, where various safety and security aspects were discussed. The forum consists of members of the police as well as residents, whose aim is to address these issues in town.

Amongst the many things discussed at the recent gathering the committee brought up the issue of the growing number of street kids in Swakopmund. “They are not orphans,” Kötting said and added that Erwin Leuschner these kids are not interested in bread or food, but rather just want the money. An investigation into the matter has revealed that some of these minors earn up to N$200 per day – making their earnings well above the average Namibian worker.

“Some of these minors were already taken to the North to their parents by the Ministry of Child Welfare and Gender Equality. In some instances the child was back in Swakopmund only a few days later, doing the same as before,” she said. While the PPRC is working on a solution to help the minors, forcing them to go to school is not a solution. “They don't want to go to school. They are bored there. They need to go somewhere else where their talents can be developed like art classes or similar,” she said.

In an attempt to begin to address the situation she appeals to the public not to give them money. “Once we break this circle, they will be forced to go back home to their parents or to school,” she said. Kötting added that it is tricky to do something about the situation because “as soon as you want to do something the law is on their (street kids') side. “We want to do something and it has been a topic for many years, but it is not that easy,” she said.

The Police Public Relations Committee (PPRC) is appealing to the public not to give change or money to so-called street kids in Swakopmund. “They have a home and are not orphans. We are looking for a solution to address the situation,” said Anett Kötting, Chairperson of PPRC, to namib times recently.

We have received some valuable and highly concerning information from several very reliable sources and it is imperative that we are all aware and on “RED ALERT”. There's so much more to this vessel's presence than we collectively are aware of. I will summarise below some of the information and comments received.

The “Ryazanovka” cannot catch any larger marine life than Orcas and the vessel has been modified for that purpose. They have “whale trapping gear” on board. The vessel is dangerous and I for one am highly anxious about the presence of this “killer boat”!!! I truly fear for our marine wildlife. To compound our problem and our distress, confidential information has been received (also refer to attachment) that Willem Goeieman, the PS of Department Maritime Affairs (Ministry of Works, Transport and Communication) has signed a provisional Certificate of Registry for the vessel to operate as a Namibian Vessel.

Most DMA Surveyors can process Vessel Registry in Namibia; sad but true. So there is ample choice of individuals that can / may legalize this ship.

Now the question is...what happens with the vessel if there is even a remote chance that MFMR turns down their application? Will they just go ahead anyway? Will anybody notice/know if they start catching illegally and start transferring their catches onto a "mothership" or another port, say in Angola for example? These are questions that the Namibian Environment and Wildlife Society have posed to MFMR and only received vague and meaningless answers. This remains a very serious concern and reality.

We are told in the media that possibly only a seal quota will be granted, but what happens if Government pushes the approval through for all the marine life mentioned initially, i.e. dolphins, orcas, penguins, seals …. Some people at MFMR are reluctant to discuss this and others ask for understanding of the situation I have been told. This alone rings all the alarm bells in one huge symphony. The MFMR might have issued the full permit already? How do we know and who do we trust?

It is disconcerting to know that our Government cannot make the calculations and realize the financial rewards in having tourists flock to our country specifically to see these lovely marine creatures in the wild, the dolphins and the whales off Walvis Bay and Swakopmund; the Southern Rights sometimes calving close to Lüderitz....they should calculate the input to our Namibian Tourism industry compared to the small once-off input of this so-called massacre. Government should protect the country's marine wildlife for future sustainability of our ecosystem and our heritage. This might sound far-fetched ladies and gentlemen, but I believe we need Captain Paul Watson and Sea Shepherd involved actively, not just informatively. And then ……. We need to address our Namibian President with urgency to put a stop to this madness and we need people with expertise to guide us on the protocol and channels of communication to reach our President.

Namib High School's Class Captains spread the love in Swakopmund On 13 September, the class captains went on an outing in order to interact with various members of the community. The class captains involved ranged from Grade 8 to Grade 12 learners, and they were accompanied by their guidance teacher, Mrs Hornickel.

The first stop was at the Lions Frail Care Centre. The learners spoiled the elderly with delicious cupcakes, and surprisingly, they all seemed to have quite the sweet tooth!

The smiles and the gratitude shown truly made this a very humbling experience for all involved. The elderly in our community are so, so precious.

Next, they visited Swakopmund SPCA. Another part of the community that needs our help, and without the exposure, very few people really know what hard work goes into the well-being of our animals.

The learners handed over a donation of N$1200 to the organisation in order to purchase food and contribute to outstanding veterinary bills.

Lastly, they travelled to Mondesa to visit Naftaline at Tears of Hope.

This is a place of safety where 20 vulnerable children are currently being cared for.

The class captains were fortunate enough to talk to and play with the younger children as well. Once again, they were spoiled with some cupcakes, something so small, yet it brought them so much joy. This experience truly warmed everyone's hearts.

As our President once said, “Harambee - No one is left behind.� Namib High School made sure of that, and in return, the class captains received rewards in the form of smiles and hugs. What an unforgettable day indeed!

Rental Support Services reacts positively to market conditions

These are difficult and challenging times for Walvis Bay businesses, particularly those in the logistics and ship repair sectors, which have seen a severe downturn in trade due to the low cost of oil.

For many of these businesses, this has meant downscaling and retrenchment, but Rental Support Services has reacted proactively, and has grown both their team and their equipment in order to prosper in these difficult market conditions.

Rental Support Services (RSS) was founded in 2004 in Walvis Bay and was originally established to provide shore based logistics support to the offshore industry on the coast of Namibia, providing equipment rental such as forklifts, cranes, Hiab trucks, flatbed trucks, waste skips and mobile office units as shore based support.

Mr Thomas Wolff, Manager of RSS elaborated, “We still provide services to the offshore industry but, because that sector is quiet at the moment, we needed to extend our service offering to open up new markets such as the construction and mining sectors.”

To this end, they have invested approximately N$2.1 million in new equipment in order to better service existing and new clients.

This investment included the purchase of two back hoe loaders (TLB) which were specifically acquired in order to service the construction industry.

“Our back hoe loaders have several attachments including a hydraulic jack hammer, forks, a 3-in-1 bucket with a 1 cbm capacity, and an excavator arm with a bucket.

RSS also acquired five 6 cbm skips, which work in conjunction with the TLBs in order to remove building rubble, allowing the company to provide an all-round service to the building industry.

A 1000 litre diesel bowser, allows RSS to refuel their equipment whilst they are on site, allowing for greater efficiency for their clients.

A 3 ton forklift was also added to the fleet of equipment.

RSS has also increased their staff complement by 15% in order to operate the new equipment and to provide administrative support, and Thomas emphasised that it is the strength of the team that makes the company successful. The company has also focussed on being flexible with their rates and hours of work in order to service their clients.“We've extended our hours of service, making operators available over evenings and weekends, which now means we can offer a 24 hour standby service to our customers,” Thomas explained.

Rental Support Services was taken over by Mr Thomas Wolff in July 2011, and at the time they had limited equipment and only five staff members. Five years down the line, they now have 20 staff members, two skip trucks, one crane, ten forklifts, two flat deck trucks and two back hoe loaders. They also supply mobioffices and ablution units, and approved offshore handling equipment (DNV 2:7:1 2006 / EN 12079: 2006).

This growth and flexibility, as well as high levels of customer service, have no doubt allowed RSS to remain resilient in tough market conditions.

FEELING THE PINCH AND RENTAL TERMINATION. Further to recent articles in this column about the property market being in a state of slackness due to various macro-economic factors, the pinch is being felt throughout the property spectrum in both selling and renting scenarios.

Therefore, it is evident that the property rental- and sales markets have slanted more favourably towards tenants and buyers as landlords and sellers have become “more receptive” to negotiated lower rent and pricing.

This applies to Residential-, Commercialand Industrial properties. Some find themselves in a catch-twenty-two situation and not sure whether to rent out at a lower rate or to consider selling but then again, selling would also be more favourable for buyers who will negotiate downwards. A real tricky situation for some. Notably, there are a smaller number of people who've concluded to, under prevailing market conditions, withdraw their properties from both the sales- and rental markets. In especially the rental market one observes a lot of movement of termination notices applied as nowadays more tenants are constantly on the lookout for less expensive options. Liebe Küstenleser!

Krankheit ist der gemeinsame Nenner, der uns sogenannte vertickte Vernunftwesen zusammenschweißt und auch wiederum voneinander entfernt.

Das ist mir erneut klar geworden, als mich die Grippe und andere körperliche Schwächen vergangene Woche fast völlig außer Betrieb gesetzt hatten.

Die Kluft entsteht dadurch, dass sich im elenden Zustand alle Kraft zur Genesung auf einen selbst konzentrieren muss und man einfach nicht mehr die Energie hat, zusätzlich die Menschen um sich herum mit einzubeziehen. Das heißt, man ist fast gezwungenermaßen in einem Zustand der Distanz zu seinen Mitmenschen.

Der verbindende Faktor ist natürlich der, dass wir alle mindestens einmal im Leben so richtig lekker siek sind. Im Afrikaansen spricht man von doodsiek wees, im Deutschen ebenso von todkrank sein.

Ja, der Ausdruck sagt alles. Krankheit ist für mich jedesmal wie ein kleiner Tod, aus dem man anschließend hoffentlich wie ein Phönix aus der Asche wieder genesen, voller Tatendrang und mit einem neuen jugendlichen Lebensgefühl steigt.

Liegt man mit einer Krankheit danieder, befindet man sich in

einer geistigen Gemütslage des völligen Alleinseins. Dieses schließt nicht aus, dass es liebe Menschen gibt, die sich um einen kümmern. Was wären wir ohne jene barmherzigen Samariter, die ihre Zeit und Energie opfern, um uns in unserem Genesungsprozess zu unterstüt-

zen? Im Geiste aber ist man ganz auf sich gestellt und muss zusehen, wie man mit seinem Unwohlsein und gewissen Funktionsunfähigkeiten zurechtkommt. Man ist, wie gesagt, namenlos allein, wie es das kleine Mädchen in Rolf Zuckowskis Kinderlind “Wenn ich krank bin” so treffend sagt: ,,So lang’ seh ich schon nur zum Telefon; ruft denn keiner an, mit dem ich reden kann? Ich lieg hier zu Haus und möcht so gern raus, dann dreh ich mich um

und weiß selbst nicht, warum. Wenn ich krank bin, weiß ich nicht, was mit mir los ist. Ich weiß nur, dass

mein Kummer riesengroß ist. Wenn ich krank bin, mag ich nicht mal richtig essen, und hoff’ nur, dass meine Freunde mich nicht vergessen.”

D e r Vo r t e i l e i n e r krankheitsbedingten Bettlägerigkeit liegt für mich darin, dass man fast automatisch über sich und sein Leben nachdenkt. Mir ist jedenfalls erneut klargeworden, was in mein Leben gehört, und wofür ich meine Zeit ganz bestimmt nicht mehr vergeuden will. Ich habe meinem Leben während meiner We h w e h c h e n - Z e i t wiederum frischen Südwester Wind mit einer so richtig kühlpikanten Atlantikbrise eingehaucht, indem ich meine Erfahrungen alle in einen Sack gepackt und ihn ordentlich durchgeschüttelt habe.

Diese Umstrukturierung dessen, was wichtig ist in meinem Leben und was absolut keinen Platz mehr in mir und um mich herum haben darf, hat dafür gesorgt, dass ich das Leben erneut gesund und voller Freude anpacken kann.

Also, lieber Leser, falls sie so ein Energiebündel an sich vorbeirasen sehen, dann handelt es sich nicht um die schnellste Maus Mexikos namens Speedy Gonzales, sondern um eine erneut vor lauter Übermut durchs Leben flitzende Speedy Karla Kolumna.

Der erste Postverkehr im Schutzgebiet wurde von einem eingeborenen Postläufer besorgt, der die Strecke von Windhoek nach Swakopmund in knapp zwölf Tagen zurücklegte. Ausgestattet war er mit einem gespaltenen Ast, an dem vorne eine Kalebasse mit Wasser und hinten der schwarz-weiß-rote Postsack befestigt waren. Ab April 1894 wurde in Otjimbingwe ein Wechselbote stationiert und fortan dauerte es nur noch acht Tage, bis die Post

ankam. Die erste Swakopmunder Postagentur wurde am 30. Mai 1895 in der Firma Erhard & Schultz eingerichtet. Der Kaufmann Otto Erhard fungierte nebenbei als Postbeamter. Es wird berichtet, dass er, nachdem die Post sortiert war, dieses mit einem Pistolenschuss in die Luft bekannt gab. Im selben Jahr schloss Postsekretär Sachs einen Vertrag mit dem Farmer Gathemann über den Transport der Post per Ochsenwagen.

Im Jahre 1897 zog die Postagentur in ein eigenes Büro in das Gebäude der Siedlungsgesellschaft und anstelle eines Pistolenschusses wurde nun die

Reichsflagge ge-hisst, wenn die Post sortiert war. Am 1. April 1907 wurde das doppelstöckige Postgebäude mit 120 Postfächern eröffnet. Es diente 60 Jahre lang seinem Zweck, bevor am 31.

März 1967 das neu erbaute Postamt eröffnet wurde. Die Stadtverwaltung zog nun in das ehemalige Postamt ein, das sich an der Ecke der Tobias Hainyeko Straße und der Daniel Tjongarero Avenue befindet.

Swakopmund (sk) Eigentlich ist die Namibianerin Sigi Kolbe eine ausgebildete Hebamme und Krankenschwester für Intensivstationen. Außerdem fotografiert und malt sie nicht nur gerne, sondern auch richtig gut.

Nun hat die schlanke, hübsche Frau am vergangenen Wochenende im Swakopmunder Vorort Oceanview ein Yogastudio eröffnet.

Schlank, das wundert einen überhaupt nicht, hat Sigi Kolbe doch ihr Leben lang Sport getrieben: ,, Das Gym und Rennen waren früher mein Leben”, erzählt die Blondine. ,,Vom Marathonrennen bekam ich allerdings Knieprobleme, und vom Aerobics und Motorradfahren Rückenschmerzen.” Und sie fügt hinzu: Das waren halt damals die Zeiten.

Ford Sales Remain Upbeat Despite Struggling New Car Market With the new vehicle market continuing to be defined by double-digit declines across most segments, Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (FMCSA) remained on the positive side of the spectrum once again in September 2016.

Despite the generally bleak outlook for total industry sales, Ford saw its year-to-date share climb to 14.4% at the close of the September sales, representing a 2.1% gain compared to the first nine months of 2015. The overall share for the month was 13.4%.

"We have seen a steady decline in the new vehicle market, and September was particularly hard hit in both the passenger car the light commercial vehicle segments," said Gerhard Herselman, General Manager: Sales and for Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa.

"Although this trend is likely to continue in the months ahead, we are buoyed by the fact that Ford's monthly and year-over-year share continues to g r o w, d r i v e n b y consistently strong demand for several of our key models.

"We expect this to continue for the remainder of the year, inspired by our expanded Ranger lineup, and the commencement of local production in October of the Ford Everest with a broader model range including six new and more affordable derivatives," Herselman added.

Industry *According to the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA), September 2016 aggregate new vehicle sales at 47 399 units registered decline of 7 904 vehicles or a fall of 14.3% compared to the 55 303 vehicles sold in September last year.

The new car market, at 31 957 units, reflected a decline of 5 386 cars or a fall of 14.4% compared to the 37 325 new cars sold in September 2015. This was again despite a strong contribution by the car rental industry which had accounted

for 19.9% of new cars sold during the month.

Domestic sales of new light commercial vehicles, bakkies and mini buses at 12 879 units during September 2016 had also turned sharply weaker, reflecting a decline of 2 243 units, some 14.8 % lower than the 15 122 units sold during the corresponding month last year.

Passenger cars Ford enjoyed another strong showing amongst its passenger car contenders, with the Fiesta securing its third highest sales for the year on 1 190 units, up 11.3% from the previous month.

The 2016 range continues with the proven 2.5 and 3.0 litre diesel

engines. The powerful 3.0-litre DTEQ turbocharged diesel with 130kW and 380Nm from the common rail direct injection turbodiesel does duty in top of the range models.

Combined Cycle fuel consumption is 7.9 litres per 100 km for 4x4 double cab and extended cab models, dropping to 7.7 litres per 100 km for the 4x2 versions. The single cab 4x2 also returns a figure of 7.7 litres per 100 km, with the 4x4 single cab version consuming 8 litres per 100 km.

A key feature of LX models is a touch screen infotainment system with satellite navigation, internet, WiFi, and smartphone integration. The screen

- a 1080p highdefinition TFT unit with a generous 6.5inch dimension - also acts as the display when browsing, or using the DVD player.

The Rear Park Assist reverse camera is now integrated into the rear tailgate handle on all LX double cab models.

Passive entry and start system (PESS) is a keyless entry with Start/Stop ignition button is standard on all LX double cab models. Leather is available as standard on the 4x4 auto and manual double cabs and as an option on 4x2 Double Cab derivatives.

The second powertrain option is the 2.5-litre DTEQ common-rail direct injection turbodiesel, which was in-

troduced last year with 100kW and 320Nm. The 2.5 comes with a variable geometry turbocharger similar to the 3.0 DTEQ engine, which allows for fine management of boost pressure. With a 20 percent increase in torque at 1 200 rpm and a much wider power band compared to its predecessor, all Isuzu models powered by this unit enjoy vastly improved driveability.

Two workhorse models, the 250 Base Single Cab (LEED) and 250 Fleetside single cab (LEED), are equipped with the Direct Injection 4 Cylinder 2.5 Diesel engine which produces 58 kW and 170 Nm and has an impressive combined fuel consumption figure of 7.9 l/100 km.

Blue Waters celebrates 80 years of existence Blue Waters Sport Club celebrated 80 years since its official establishment in 1936. The celebrations took place at the Kuisebmond Soccer Stadium, Walvis Bay, from Friday, 30 September until Saturday, 1 October. About 600 people attended the monomentous event.

The team aimed to bring together old veterans and players to reminisce about the past and celebrate this historical milestone. The sport club consist of the following divisions: supporters; soccer; netball, cricket and youth development.

The event was attended by the Patron of Mr Ben Amathila, Chairperson of Blue Waters Hafeni Ndemula, Managing Director of Langer Heinrich Uranium Mine Mr Solomon, Minister of Home Affairs & Immigration Mrs Pendukeni Iivula-Ithana, The Late Daniel Shimbambi Family (the founder of Blue Waters), the Mayor of Walvis Bay Alderman Immanuel Wilfred, Father Shimbome Kapena.

The program included various sporst activities and a gala evening held at the Kuisebmond Soccer stadium.

Blue Waters, the second oldest soccer team in the country is to celebrate 80 years since it was established in February 1936 in the Old Location, in Walvis Bay. Founded by teacher and violinist Daniel Shimbambi, an Angolan by birth, moulded the beginning of this great team and with the adoption of the name 'Blue Waters' he spearheaded the brand that stood the test of time. Since its formation 80 years ago, Blue Waters won major cup tournaments around the country and attracted some of the best players from all four corners of the country.

Winners Whk Lager Betterball We are having a few wintry mornings still – wet and overcast. So the summer is not here yet L. Good for the golf course as it gets some of that much needed misty water.

As you will have noticed we have quite a few young ” bokkies” back who are up to their normal digging.

Saturday 1 October saw an improved field of players including a few that we had not seen for a while take to the fairways in the annual Windhoek Lager Golf Day sponsored and officiated

by Helmut Ndjenda – format Betterball Stableford. Weather conditions were good and a great day was had by all. Helmut was the only golfer to shoot a two club which was great. Winners: 1st; S Ndalumbumo/D Haimbondi 45pts; 2nd; W Theron/D Benson 44pts c/o; 3rd; T Haimbondi/F Hamunyela 44pts; 4th; J Du Toit/R Knight 43pts and can you believe it the most golf on the day was played by Licuis Nande and Wayne Profit – what happened to you guys!!!!

Wednesday 5 October Gerhard Byleveld/ Advertising Display was the sponsor for the day with some ” lekker” goodie bags on offer.

Thanks again to all the regulars for their support. The Clubhouse Kitchen had some nice curry on offer – just what one needed as the evening cooled down. The 18 Hole Winner on 39pts was Willi van Zyl with Bertie Saunderson coming in right behind him on 38pts. The 9 Hole competition was won with an excellent 21pts over the back nine by Oupa Fritz Coetzee

– it was great to see the family back on the course.

This coming Saturday 8 October the Mermaid Casino will be back at Rossmund with an Individual Stable ford Competition.

Please Note – Tee-Off Times will be moved forward to commence @ 10.30 this is a request from the sponsor to allow the prizegiving to be completed before the big Rugby Game between The Spingboks and New Zealand - this will be shown on the Big Screen @ SHREC for those who like to have atmosphere around them.
