Sinkholes again The biggest container ship to call at the port of Walvis Bay in history was pulled alongside early on Sunday morning on her maiden call. With a length of 389 metres and a gross tonnage of 95 400 tons, the CMA CGM Danube made for a spectacular scene. The ship can carry up to 9000 TEU - which in laymen’s terms is approximately 9000 six metre containers. The massive ship is seen here alongside at berth number one. On the foreground to the left is one of Namport’s tugs.

Missing copper truck found - manhunt on for the driver Liesl Losper A manhunt is on for the driver of the truck laden with copper which disappeared last Monday, prompting the Walvis Bay Corridor Group to offer a reward of N$500 000 for its recovery. That is after the truck was found abandoned in Walvis Bay over the weekend, with the load of copper and the driver missing. The load of copper was given as 34 000 kilogrammes, which could fetch a hefty price on the black market. Nampol's Detective Chief Inspector Mwatongwe confirmed to the namib times yesterday the truck was found empty. “We found the truck in Circumferential Street, at the back of the Cymot complex. It was clear the truck driver abandoned the vehicle. The keys were left inside and the cab unlocked,” he said. It is suspected the load of copper is still to be found in the Walvis Bay area.
