Johannes !Gawaxab to resign as Rössing chairman The chairman of the Board of Directors of Rössing Uranium Limited (RUL), Mr Johannes !Gawaxab, has announced his intention to resign in order to focus on other business commitments. This was announced on Friday in a press release by RUL. "It has been a great privilege to chair Rössing over the past two years, during which time I have worked with some outstanding people across the business", he said. The other board members are: W. B2 thugs target visitors yet again

Floris Steenkamp

The Namibian Police yesterday made an urgent call upon businesses and other service providers at the coast, to make visiting businesspeople and tourists aware of a current trend by criminals to target parked vehicles at spots along the B2 coastal road between Walvis Bay and Swakopmund. The thugs wait for their opportunities when the vehicle occupants walk off for sightseeing. Often the victims are too far away from the vehicles and in almost all instances one of the targeted vehicles' tyres would be slashed. In the latest incident shortly after mid-day yesterday, two South Africans fell victim to four men when they parked their vehicle in the vicinity of the paragliding area off Patrysberg. The pair parked their vehicle and walked a distance to take pictures. A small, black sedan vehicle with four men inside stopped next to their vehicle, smashed a window and stole various items including their passports, handbags etc. They were too far to do anything and helplessly looked on as the thugs then slashed the vehicle's left front tyre to prevent them from giving chase or reach a police station. In a similar incident last week Miss Namibia Suné January's vehicle's window was smashed and items stolen, as she and her family stopped their car near Langstrand to walk to the beach. "Hotels, guesthouses, car rental outlets, tour operators and other service providers need to inform our visitors of the criminals' tactic to target your vehicle when you venture too far away. Slashing tyres have also become the latest fashion, as this prevents the victim from following the thugs or reach a police station in time", said this police source.
