Miss Namibia ‘21 a Walvis Bay’ite The community of Walvis Bay has even more reason to be proud of Miss Namibia 2021, Chelsi Shikongo. She hails from the harbour town. Shikongo was crowned Miss Namibia on Saturday night during an event at the Windhoek Country Club to which spectators could link online by Zoom. Shikongo attended school at the Kuisebmond Secondary School between 2010 and 2014. Shikongo knew from a very young age that she wants to enter the modelling profession, and that she can make a difference living out this passion. She started her career as a model at LC's Models in Walvis Bay in 2010 and has started a career as international model in 2016, and has been on the catwalks of Milan and Singapore. Health Ministry urges schools to be Covid safe The Ministry of Health and Social Services urged schools this week to step up precautionary measures to ensure learners and teachers are protected against Covid-19. Namibia is now in its third wave of Covid infections with record numbers of people testing positive on a daily basis. A large number of these mass infections are school learners and teachers. The Ministry assured Namibians it is coordinating actions with the Ministry of Health and Social Services and the Teachers Unions of Namibia (TUN) to step up protection protocols at schools. Khomas Region remains worst hit.

“I don’t known whether it is negligence from our side as residents, but what I know is we need to step up our precautionary measures against Covid-19. We need to do better”. Walvis Bay’s Mayor, Cllr. Trevino Forbes, issued a stern warning on Tuesday night during the monthly Council meeting that the Covid19 infection rate is Walvis Bay is climbing at an alarming rate. He urged residents to take personal responsibility to contain the virus and not only expecting the Ministry of Health and Social Services to fight the virus. Mayor Forbes, who also tested positive for the Coronavirus four weeks ago, and had to isolate urged all citizens who qualifies to take the vaccine, to do so without delay.
