Safland and Atterbury ends shopping mall war:
Dunes Mall to make place for mega lifestyle centre Floris Steenkamp A lifestyle centre, where auto dealerships, furniture dealers and other lifestyle traders can rent large showrooms, will be developed in the place of the Dunes Shopping Mall at the entrance of Walvis Bay, next to the Walvis Bay weighbridge. Although construction of the Dunes Mall commenced weeks ago, the project was halted this week when the owner, Safland Group, announced it will now develop a new shopping complex in partnership with Atterbury Group, a rival mall developer which is developing its own shopping mall literally across the street from Dunes Mall. Safland acquired Erf 4451 through a private sale for just over N$34 million in recent months and commenced construction of the Dunes Mall. At the same time Greenstone Investments (Pty) Ltd, owned by businessman Timo Voges, acquired portion of portion 196 Walvis Bay town and townlands from the Walvis Bay municipality virtually across the street from Erf 4451, where in conjunction with Atterbury Group, he wants to develop the Erongo Mall.
Fierce competition reigned in recent months as Safland Group started construction to stay ahead and retain anchor tenants. However, Atterbury soon received clearance and purchased portion of portion 196 for nearly N$10 million. Groundworks already commenced months ago to clear the land, as it lays adjacent to the Walvis Bay semipurified evaporation ponds and the Walvis Bay bird sanctuary. It was covered in reeds and Tamerisk trees. Then on Wednesday this week Safland Group and Atterbury Group unceremoniously announced it would now join forces and develop a single mall together, at a total price tag of N$650 million. Construction of Dunes Mall halted with immediate effect and construction activities is to commence in June this year on portion of portion 196 for what
the joint venture calls the “new Dunes Mall”. Then was the question on everyone's lips: what is happening at the site where construction of Dunes Mall already commenced? When namib times contacted Safland Group yesterday for comment, the Director of Asset Management, Mirinda van der Merwe, was ready with the answer. The original Dunes Mall site will now see a major overhaul of its building concept and will be transformed into a mega lifestyle centre. Construction will commence if anchor tenants are secured and plans formalised, she said. Although Safland Group and Atterbury are arch rivals in the business of shopping mall development, it is not totally unusual for these giants to join forces. Both Safland and Atterbury are shareholders in Windhoek's Grove Mall.

Namibia to sign EPA by June Namibia will soon sign the long-awaited Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) with the European Union (EU).
Speaker of the National Assembly Peter Katjavivi said this today during the celebration of 25 years of collaboration between Namibia and the European Union and launch of a brochure titled '25 Years of Partnership between Namibia and the EU.' Katjavivi said Namibia is expected to sign the agreement between May and June this year and then ratify the agreement before 1 October. The agreement will be discussed in Parliament and later officially signed by
President Hage Geingob. EU Ambassador to Namibia Jana Hybaskova said during the same celebration that the EU hopes the Namibian Government will soon sign the EPA and enjoy the duty-free export of almost 20 million goods to Europe. Namibia has negotiated an EPA as part of a regional Southern African Development Community (SADC) group that includes Botswana, Lesotho, Swaziland, Mozambique, Angola and South Africa. NAMPA
Fish Shop Continued from Page 1 The shop employs four people from Arandis. Mediva's financial administrator Christofina Kamati told Nampa in a telephonic interview the aim is to sell affordable fish to residents of Arandis and Namibia at large. In his official remarks, Esau commended Mediva for their efforts to enhance economic growth, create employment opportunities for locals and expand the processing and manufacturing base in the country. “I am reliably informed that the company, in cooperation with its partners, have also opened other fish shops in the northern towns of Omungwelume, Okahao, Okalongo and Ondangwa. These are impressive achievements worth recognition,” he said. Esau called upon the management of Mediva Fisheries to secure the welfare of workers and provide good leadership. “Capacity building should remain your company's watchword in your endeavours to empower Namibian workers, especially those from the previously disadvantaged communities of our population,” he said. Police impersonators make public lose faith in the Police Criminals who impersonate police officers in order to rob them are confusing members of the public as to who is a police officer and who is not. Even worse, civilians are losing faith and trust in the police due to an increasing number of criminal activities involving police impersonation. This was the testimony of Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Sergeant Paulus Kandjimi during the bail application of four men accused of extortion and police impersonation in the Swakopmund Magistrate's Court on Wednesday. He was objecting to the granting of bail to the suspects, saying they re-offended, have the same pending cases, might abscond, and interfere with State witnesses. Kandjimi also said the case is of a serious nature. Another reason was that police investigations into the matter are still ongoing and suspects could interfere with the investigations if released on bail.
Unabridged birth certificate travel rule scrapped in SA Johannesburg – Parents can breathe a sigh of relief after the Department of Home Affairs announced on Thursday it is amending its controversial rule that makes it a requirement for parents to have their minor children's unabridged birth certificates available before they can travel. Mkuseli Apleni, the department's director general, said the regulations were being reviewed and amended. The amended law would stipulate that parents' details would be printed in the minor's passport, meaning they would not have to carry birth certificates. “Home affairs is working jointly with the national department of tourism to ensure the regulations are amended accordingly," he said. The tourism department had previously argued that the unabridged birth certificate visa regulation that came into effect last year had hurt the industry. Apleni said the department was working hard to implement the amended rule and that Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba was happy the matter was being handled in collaboration with stakeholders.
“There should be no bail because they might commit the same offences again as they were on bail on the same charges when they committed this offence,” the sergeant told the court. Collin Auchab, 38; Stephanus Theodor, 38; Reinhard Narib, 38 and Nicolaus Mokomele, 44 were arrested on 20 January this year after they allegedly extorted N$70 000 from a member of the public. Court records indicate that the group has extortion and impersonation cases pending in Otjiwarongo and Tsumeb. Auchab, Narib and Mokomele are represented by Shakespeare Masiza, while Vetu Uanivi is representing Theodor. The two lawyers argued that their clients should be granted bail as they will not abscond, the case is not serious and they will not interfere with witnesses. “I guarantee you my clients will not abscond because they are Namibians and rooted in Namibia. N$70 000 is a small amount; I have seen cases involving N$100 000 where suspects were given bail,” Masiza said. Uanivi argued that the police have no evidence to prove they have the right offenders, therefore his client “has nothing to fear”. He noted that it was never said in court that the State has a strong case, and therefore it is not a serious case in which bail can be denied. Magistrate Nelao Brown remanded the four in custody and postponed the matter to 22 February for continuation of the bail hearing. Prosecutor Tanya Jacobie represented the State in the matter. NAMPA

They are facing a charge of impersonating members of the police force and extortion. The four were arrested after a Swakopmund resident reported the incident of extortion to the police on the week of 18 January. The victim allegedly met two women on the beach who accompanied him to his place of residence, where things got a bit out of hand and the ladies allegedly threatened to open a rape case, claiming he refused to pay them. The victim soon started to receive phone calls from the accused claiming they will make the docket disappear if the victim pays them. The victim allegedly paid up to N$70 000 and when they demanded a higher payment of N$300 000, of which the victim could only afford to pay N$200 000, the victim consulted with his lawyer and was advised to report the incident to the police and the operation let to the arrest of the four men at the place where the four had agreed to meet the victim for the handover of the money. The four are now in custody waiting to be granted bail but the state feels that if the four are granted bail they will carry on with the illegal activities as they have pending cases at other magistrate courts in the country or they might not show up in court at all.

Port main gate damaged Liesl Losper
The main entrance of the port of Walvis Bay was damaged when a truck carrying a mobile lift crashed into it on Tuesday night. The incident soon resulted in traffic congestion at the main gate as Namport staff removed the rubble. An incident report by Namport suggests while transporting lifting machinery on a truck from the port, the driver of the truck misjudged the height of the load on the truck and collided with the main gate overhead structure. According to Namport the estimated repair cost is N$150 000. Additional information from Nam-
port stated: “This incident disrupted traffic flow on Wednesday morning, as workers started to clean the area. It is not the first time the main gate falls victim to crashes like this. Some years ago a heavy forklift crashed through the opposite side of the exit. According to Namport the damage was caused by an external truck who is a port user.

David Amadhila: The only people that can go to that place and tell us exactly what happened are the prophets of God but we don't want to acknowledge them so we won't really know the truth. Kelly Lebby Shapopi Haimbili: This police was supposed to burn those staffs at the moment and for those who saying we must protect our self with sea water this is not more important than the Lord who is the king of king and for those who gossiping. To my understanding, Shapumba is urging the practitioners to continue their practices but just to be cautious when doing so. He says that it should be done in private because it alarms the community.... M I the only one interpreting the article this way? Francois Kros: WTF, It is 2016 people, there is no such thing as witchcraft. Just outcasts trolling for attention. All the way to Zambia on 252 wheels Liesl Losper Two transformers left Walvis Bay on Wednesday morning on their way to Zambia. The forces behind this project is Walvis Bay Plant and Tool Hire Services, a Namibian owned company, in collaboration with Kumkane, a South African company. The loads each have a length of 44.780 meters and 45.650 meters with a height of 6 meters. The weight varies between 140 and 160 tons. The gross combined weight per truck is 240 tons. Due to this tonnage, a push and pull method are used, which is also the first time that this solution is used on our roads. The mechanical horses behind both loads were attached by towbars to assist the trucks with the loads to either push them in an uphill situation or braking in a
downhill situation. The maximum speed will be between 20 to 40 kilometres per hour. Each trailer is fitted with 126 wheels. What makes this journey unique is that abnormal loads are only allowed on the national roads between sunrise and sunset. Abnormal loads are also not allowed on weekends and public holidays. In each district and region it is compulsory for Nampol Traffic to escort them. “We anticipate to be ±20 days on the road. We would like to thank the

Research critical for marine phosphate mining to be considered as a new mining source in Nam The Confederation of Namibian Fishing Associations (CNFA) noted with concern renewed information circulating in the public domain through the Namibian media regarding the sensitive topic of phosphate mining. The Federation reiterates its position that phosphate mining will endanger the ocean and its fishing resources and is strongly supporting the moratorium the Namibian Government placed on the development of a marine phosphate mining industry, as there is no scientific research that concludes beyond doubt that marine phosphate mining is not dangerous for any marine environment. T h e a b o v e - m e n - publish the views of of marine phosphate favourable projections tioned are the re- the CNFA. The CNFA has in the bruary, 16 February Mr Amukwa further What is missing in the past issued its conand 19 February said: “The prospects debate is that the cern, and still has a
concern regarding the potential negative environmental effect which phosphate mining may have on the fishing industry. The fishing industry is not against sea mining per se. We are not saying that the sea off the Namibian coast is our pond and nobody else should swim in that pond! What the Confederation of Fishing Associations is demanding, is that full in depth research be done by independent sources, to prove that marine mining does not impact negatively on the marine ecology, and therefore the fishery! When a new mine is planned on land, the environmental scientist has a plethora of studies, articles and precedents to work with, when conducting an Environmental Impact Assessment, and if done thoroughly, a robust EIA should be the result. The same le-vel of information available for land mining is not available for sea phosphate mining. We are treading on virgin grounds and therefore thorough, inde-
pendent research is required even if that takes a number of years. At the same time legislation needs to be enacted and rules established to effectively monitor and control sea mining, should research before mining takes place, find that no ecological harm will done. Many countries have banned phosphate mining and one wonders why the proponents of phosphate mining are pushing so hard to get immediate access to the Namibian resource, and cannot tolerate the research moratorium. Is it perhaps because they realize that our mining laws are predominantly land based, and therefore see the opportunity to influence the legislation in their favour, and possibly assist in writing the laws? Or is it perhaps because the International Seabed Authority is working on developing marine mining environmental standards, which the Namibian marine phosphate mining companies want to
avoid? If we lightly agree to sea mining without thorough research and appropriate legislation in place, Namibia will become the experimental ground for the international sea mining companies, closely watched by the world. It cannot be, that a country so, dependant on the fishing industry, becomes the trial laboratory for marine phosphate mining! Now the supporters of phosphate mining will tell us that they have conducted studies that prove that phosphate mining does not harm the ecology. When approached by the fishing industry and other interested parties to share this information the companies clam up, maintaining that the studies contain company sensitive information and cannot be shared with the public! An EIA, which is a condition when wanting to mine, must be available to all interested parties. Yet one of the two prospective mining companies, who has undertaken at sea research in support of their EIA, refuses to make this document available to the fishing industry, and requests to the Ministry of Environment and Tourism by the CNFA for a copy, have not had a positive response. The conclusion which one must draw from this response, right or wrong, is that the studies have produced information which is detrimental to the cause of sea phosphate mining and the mining companies have come to the conclusion that the report is better kept out of the public domain!

Sex and couples living with HIV/Aids Liesl Losper The question asked by most people are, can you still have a love life whilst living with HIV/AIDS? Most people living with HIV/Aids feel their love lives came to an end after being diagnosed. Many feel undiserable for their partner, could feel they endanger the life of a partner or have a feeling of being “toxic” and not worthy of human contact. Hard work still lies ahead to break the stigma of HIV/Aids both for the patient and for people sharing a life with people that contracted HIV/Aids. Honest communication between the couple affected is paramount and the one and only starting point. Without effective communication any relationship is unhealthy. Share your HIV-status with your partner, be that your current partner or any other person in your future you decide to have intimate contact with. With effective communication, next is for the couple to take care of one another. Take care of one another not only in the physical sense but also emotionally and assure one another of your love and your support. This is no different from the relationship with your partner prior to being diagnosed with HIV/ Aids. Sexual acitivity between a couple affected also needs a deliberate and rational approach. It is paramount for both partners to feel safe and secured. Using a condom remains the most effective means to protect a person and prevent the spread of HIV/ Aids, whilst full cooperation with a treatment regime is also regarded in the category. The most important to remember is you can still love and be loved, despite HIV/Aids in your relationship. Below is an extraction of the American Nick Burns who said the following in an online article on the topic of sex and HIV/Aids:
“many newly diagnosed folks wonder if they'll ever have sex again—or if they'll ever want to. You can get back in the game. Making love might not be quite the same as it was before HIV, but then again, it might be even better. By now, you've probably grasped that HIV is not a death sentence. Well, it doesn't have to kill your sex life either. People who have just found out that they are positive often feel undesirable, even “dangerous or toxic,” as HIV positive New York City psychotherapist Michael Shernoff puts it. But HIV veterans and even some newbies will tell you that you can still have passionate, intimate sex and that it might even be better than before. “Sex is more intense since my diagnosis,” says health care educator Gregory Huang-Cruz, who was diagnosed positive in 1999. “It's not about racing to get off.” Putting It Out There: telling a potential sexual partner you have HIV doesn't have to spell disaster. “I started disclosing to people who hit on me, thinking it would scare them off. Many people said, 'OK, we'll just use protection,'” says Rick Witherspoon of Chesapeake, Virginia, who was diagnosed in 2005. To avoid hurt feelings, Shernoff recommends bringing up your status well before you get intimate. Disclosing to a lover also means you can share the responsibility for keeping your encounter safe. (In some states, you are obligated to disclose. See “Daring to Disclose”). Rejection, of course, happens. “Having no expectations is the safest way to protect yourself,” Shernoff says.
Getting Creative: talking honestly with your partner about which sexual activities you're both comfortable with is an important way to minimize the risk of transmitting the virus. Anal and vaginal sex carry the highest risk, especially for the receptive partner, although the insertive partner can get HIV this way too. Oral sex is less risky, although condoms or dental dams make it safer. (For more about activities and risk, go to www.poz.com, click on HIV 101 and check out the Positive Sex guide.) Condoms “can make sex monotonous,” says HIV positive educator Debra Ly n M c C a r t h y o f Vacaville, California. “You have to come up with ideas to mix it up.” Dyane Haddock of Santa Rosa, California, diagnosed in 1994, likes to wear sexy lingerie and use sex toys. “It's about trying different things,” she says. Going All The Way: while HIV pushes some lovers away, it brings others closer. “I thought, 'Having HIV will show me who really wants to be around me.'” says McCarthy. “I ended up getting back together with my husband.” Since her diagnosis, Haddock says HIV has deepened what sex means. “It's not all about getting naked and getting in bed,” she says. “It's about getting to know someone.” Daring to go bare: can you ditch the condoms if you're both HIV positive? Even if you and your sexual partner have HIV, you're both still at risk for sexually transmitted infections like herpes, HPV, gonorrhea, hepatitis and chlamydia. Having HIV makes
fighting these pests more difficult; some of them can make your HIV more infectious. We also know that going “bare-back” can lead to infection with a second strain of HIV (called “superinfection”). The jury is out on how risky this is. If you and your monogamous lover decide not to wear your raincoats, be sure you understand the possible dangers. Baby boom: Whether you're a man or a woman, just because you have HIV doesn't mean you can't have HIV negative children. The right treatment can lower the risk of mom transmitting HIV to an unborn child to about 2% and in some cases even less. Pregnant moms should see both an HIV doc and an obstetrician with experience treating positive women to ensure proper care. You might have to switch meds or stop taking them during certain periods. During labor and delivery, mom gets AZT (Retrovir) intravenously; the newborn gets pediatric doses of AZT for six weeks. Most tots can be delivered vaginally. Positive dads can ask for a process called sperm washing. This technique involves separating sperm from fluid and cells in semen that carry the virus. One hitch: Sperm washing is considered safe, but it's also expensive and not widely available in the U.S. Opposites attract: Two mixed-status couples on sex and HIV: Gwenn Barringer (31) (HIV negative) and Shawn Decker, 30 (diagnosed 1987). Together seven years, married in 2004. Shawn: The good thing about sex with HIV is that there's no second-guessing. You know what you need to do to protect yourself. My issue is that I'd like to have it more! But
that has nothing to do with my status. Gwenn: HIV hasn't been a huge issue in terms of sex. Having sex with a condom is actually a little bit better: I like that I don't have to deal with the mess! We won't have intercourse without a condom, but we will engage in oral sex without one, but not
with him ejaculating. Tyler Ter Meer (23) (diagnosed 2004), and Charlie Gray, 26 (HIV negative). Together two years. Tyler: No matter how safe you are, there's always the “what if?” What if the condom breaks? What if something goes wrong? What if we are so in the moment that we just
f o rg e t t o p u t o n a condom? Charlie: I think the sex is better. We're much closer than we were because of Tyler's diagnosis—being strong for each other has made our relationship stronger. We love each other more, so sex means more and is more intimate.

Februar 269 in Rom hingerichtet.
Wir alle benutzen d i e s e We r k z e u g e schließlich tagtäglich.
– 6. März auf der Gästefarm Elisen-

4th Annual SAIA Awards Monthly Monitor: January 2016 January has been a very negative start to the 2016 year. A writer for CNN Money said that this has been the worst start to a year in the stock markets, ever! Please see Table 1 below for asset class returns over various periods, taking special note of the year-to-date (YTD) column.
(Flftr) Evan Walker from 36ONE Asset Management (Management Company: Risk-adjusted Returns), Hendrie Scheun (SAIA Investment Specialist and Host), André Fourie (Special Award: Fastest Investment Growth), Willette Rügheimer on behalf of Uys de Vos (Assets Under Management) and Jakes Jacobs (Investment Inflows)
An investment-related award ceremony was held in October in Walvis Bay to celebrate, motivate and thank stakeholders in SAIA (Sanlam Atlantic Investment Association). SAIA consists of more than a dozen Sanlam financial advisers and aims to provide long-term investment clients with superior service and aboveaverage risk-adjusted returns. The association started in 2007 and has grown to over 1,000 clients and N$1 Billion Assets Under Management. These clients have a choice of risk-rated portfolios ranging from Conservative+, Cautious, Cautious+ to Moderate, Moderate+ and Assertive. The first four portfolios have the primary objective of capital preservation, and the last two aim for capital growth. The choice of portfolio is affected by the clients' investment objective, term, income need and risk profile. The expected average long-term rates of returns per portfolio are between inflation + 2% per annum (Conservative+) and inflation + 7% per annum (Assertive), though we have been delivering more than that on a gross basis! Prizes were given in the categories Investment Adviser, Investment Administrator and Investment Management Company (Manco). The adviser with the most Assets Under Management for 2015 was Uys de Vos; the adviser with the Largest Investment Inflows was Jakes Jacobs and the Investment Administrator for Service Excellence was Karen Fourie (not present in photo). A special advisory award was won by André
Fourie for having the fastest growing Assets Under Management since 2007. The competition for the prestigious Manco 2013 2015 award was once again very fierce, and was deservedly won by 36ONE Asset Management Company based on riskadjusted returns. Close contenders were Investec Namibia and Sanlam. SAIA would like to thank our clients, advisers and Mancos for their loyal support! Despite difficult global and South African market conditions, we had an extremely successful 2015. Our returns ranged from 8% to 16%, in line with our 5-year track record. This outstanding short- and long-term performance was due to our superior asset allocation, active rebalancing of client portfolios and excellent fund portfolio manager selection. We now have a 10-year record of delivering great returns in appropriate risk-rated portfolios while providing excellent service to our clients. Direct benefits to the client include higher returns, lower costs, better service and peace of mind.
Market Review: In a global risk-off stance, we have seen capital move out of risky assets, such as shares and property, and into safety assets, such as cash and bonds. Despite the weak South African (SA) Rand (ZAR), even foreign shares
are negative for 2016 so far in both United States Dollar (USD) and ZAR terms. At the same time, foreign investors are preferring the relatively more stable developed economies over emerging markets. China's economic growth slow-
down has suppressed its demand for resources and commodities, further dampening the outlook for emerging market resource exporters. See Table 1 below for asset class performances over various periods:
Source: Glacier Re-search For the most part of 2016 we expect global volatility to continue as monetary policies remain diverged and China's growth carries on stabilising. This could delay the US Federal Reserve from hiking interest rates further (if the negative backdrop continues). This would be one reason for the USD to not strengthen significantly further. Meanwhile, SA remains on
the brink of a foreign credit rating downgrade to 'junk' status. If this happens it would be devastating to the value of the ZAR and would have numerous negative knockon effects for the economy as a whole. Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan is trying hard to get SA fiscal spending under control in order to reassure foreign investors of the economy's ability to repay its foreign debt and so avoid a downgrade.
Portfolio Performance: Although markets can be volatile over shorter periods, like a month, they become more predictable given enough time. Table 2 shows the 1-year and 3-year (per annum) returns ending January 2016 of our five managed portfolios. The returns are calculated based on gross internal rates of return (IRR's) from actual client data: Table 2:
Source: Actual Client IRR's off Sanport Table 2 above illustrates how portfolio performances move toward their expected long-term rates of return over longer periods. Whilst the 1-year figures are dragged down by the recent difficult market conditions, over the longer term these effects are smoothed out. Diversification and appropriate asset allocations allow our portfolios to beat the market returns (shown in Table 1) over various periods.
Conclusion: Our portfolios have been positioned to best weather the volatile global market scene, whilst also being able to share in upward market movements. We urge existing investors to remain focussed and disciplined on the long-term objectives of their investments. We also invite new investors to join our awardwinning team. Our great investment capabilities will get you in the appropriate portfolio for your investment needs, and our extraordinary staff will
service you well thereafter! Hendrie Scheun, BSc (UNAM), DEP & MSc (Fin. Economics) (London), ACFP (Fin. Plan) (UFS), is a qualified economist with wide international and local experience. He is a financial adviser at the Namibian coast focussing on savings and investments and can be reached on 081 127 2244. The first two have contrasting red roof and pillars, while the latter has a slate grey upper section. The 18-inch 'Propeller' wheels have a distinctive five spoke design, with red brake callipers clearly visible. For the first time in an ADAM, the exhaust tip - in this instance a chromed, oval one - can be readily seen. Those special memories of you, will always bring a smile, if only we could have you back for a little while. Then we could sit and talk just like we used to do, you always meant so very much and always will do too. The fact that you’re no longer here will always cause us pain, but you’re in our hearts until we meet again.

you something so there wont be any doubt, you’re so wonderful to think of, but so hard to be without.
From: Anthony, Celeste, Caden & Chloe. It broke our hearts to lose you but you didn’t go alone. A part of us went with you the day Good took you home. If tears could build a stairway and heartaches make a lane, We’d walk our way to heaven and bring you back again. In life we love you Daddy and in death we love you still, in our heart you hold a place that no one could ever fill.

(Fltr) - Winners of Malherbe Law Competition - S Bonifacius, L Nande, H Du Plessis, M Heyns, B Saunderson, G Louw, Fanus (RGC Cpt), Nadine van Schalkwyk (sponsor), J Flook and H Hinda Wednesday 3 February we played the first of our Wednesday Competitions for 2016 sponsored by Advertisings Displays - Gerhard Byleveld - it was great to see that there was a good turnout of players. Weather conditions were slightly on the hot side but thankfully later in the afternoon the wind turned southwest, just enough to cool one down. The results were as follows: Warren Theron came steaming through the front nine with a resounding 23pts to win the nine hole competition hands down. The 18 hole laurels went to Fanie Terblanche on 38pts and Cobus De Klerk who won the countout on 37pts from Athol McLean. Well done guys and thanks for the support. On Saturday 6 February we had a Single Stableford Competition sponsored by Malherbe Law/ Gerhard van der Merwe. There was a good turnout to support this long-time sponsor and it was great to see some of the old faces, not only in the field but in the winning circle. Weather conditions were just about perfect for golf as scores were close with lots of countouts to keep Fanus busy. Thanks to the sponsor for a great day and to Nadine van Schalkwyk who was on hand to present the prizes. There were 2 x 2-clubs - S Bonifacius (3), G Louw (7). Results: 1st G Louw 39pts; 2nd H Du Plessis 38pts; 3rd L Nande 37pts; 4th S Bonifacius 36pts (c/o) over B Saunderson, M Heyns and H Hinda; 8th C De Klerk 35pts (c/o) over J Flook and P Fox. Tomorrow will be a club sponsored competition as the Federations Pairs are being played in Windhoek. "There's one of those new fangled golf trolleys with a spoiler - on both ends"

Namibia's participation in Paralympics hangs in the balance Namibia's participation in the 2016 Paralympic Games hangs on a thread as a result of the deadly Zika virus in Brazil where the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games are scheduled to take place in September. National Paralympic Committee of Namibia (NPCN) Secretary-General, Michael Hamukwaya said it is very worrying and everybody is concerned. “But we are looking at it. We have to see how serious the epidemic is, but I believe that everything is good so far,” he told Nampa on Wednesday. A record number of 10 athletes with disabilities have thus far qualified for the 2016 Paralympic Games billed for Rio de Janeiro in Brazil from 7 to 18 September this year. The World Health Organisation on 1 February declared an international health emergency on the virus, while the United States Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) had warned expectant women and those considering to become pregnant to halt plans of travelling to any country where the virus has been detected. Hamukwaya is adamant that any recommendations by the relevant authorities will be communicated to them. “We have not received any information in as far as the virus from our ministry so far, but there are bilateral agreements between Namibia and Brazil. We will wait on the recommendations that they will give us,” he said. Meanwhile, President of the Namibia National Olympic Committee Abner Xoagub said Namibian athletes are going to Rio. “All the necessary precautions have been taken into consideration and the Government of Brazil has urged athletes to wear long-sleeve clothing, and have additional mosquito repellents on them. “In fact it will be winter when the games will take place which translates to fewer mosquitoes and lesser if not, no infections,” said Xoagub. The Zika virus is spread to people through mosquito bites and is transmitted by daytime-active mosquitoes. The virus could possibly be transmitted sexually. The most common symptoms of Zika are fever, rash, joint pain, or conjunctivitis (red eyes). Other common symptoms include muscle pain and headache. On Tuesday Reuters reported that Kenyan athletes threatened to pull out from the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, and sports authorities across the world are scrambling to find out more about the mosquito-borne virus. Chairperson of the National Olympic Committee of Kenya Kipchoge Keino told Reuters that they will not go there unless the venues are cleaned of the potentially dangerous disease. NAMPA
Walvis Bay Golf News This weekend is the pairs in Windhoek which could impact on the corporate league teams. For the record, this is the last round of play and it will appreciated if all games could be played by the 19th of this month. It is not certain how many players are involved in the pairs but it seems to be quite few. PLEASE REMEMBER YOU MUST HAVE A 'C' DIVISION PLAYER IN YOUR TEAM. One team has now lost a game by not fielding a 'c' division player. Come on guys the rules were quite explicit. The draw is as follows: The log is below and all three sections are well contested, with anyone of three teams in sections 1 and 3 able to win and in section 2 there are four teams in with a chance so all games will please someone. Shane's money is on WBM and Nam Plastics, Old Boys and Standard Bank and in section 3 Onnies and LSS. Any bets?
The yearly club programme will be forwarded later in the week. This weekend the ice factory will be sponsoring the day. Format to follow All those travelling to Windhoek for the kit pairs ...good luck travel safe and kick butt.

For the first time, a Junior Ladies Division was added, as part of the drive to encourage girls in the sport. It was well-supported, with a highly competitive final match, won by Team Yellow against Team Green. The 8U/10U Division combined experienced players with new players and four year old beginners. The Green team beat Red in the final. The Ninjas in Pajamas won the 16U/18U Division final match against the Benchwarmers. All the teams in these Finals received vouchers from Super Spar and Coastal Cellular airtime. The 12U/14U Division drew a lot of interest with eight teams entered. Many younger, less experienced players showed their stamina and determination, playing hard and standing their ground against stronger competitors. The final match ended in a draw, with a penalty shootout win for the Physio Rollers against Team Muscle. They will enjoy using their Bits 'n Pizza vouchers!
The Ladies teams competed for Cafe Anton vouchers with The Originalz taking first place against the Rolling Stones. The Ladies Masters team sponsored by Rennies Travel lost to the Grannies team; and the Masters team, Flo Und Die Handwerker, battled it out against the Dare Devil Adventures team, all winning vouchers from Super Spar. Britt invests in younger ones with her achivements Britt Adonis, ex-Namibian National Rhythmic Gymnast, has established her own gymnastics club: Infinity RG. Infinity RG is aimed at cultivating a new generation of rhythmic gymnasts in Namibia, with a winning mentality and “Big Moment Temperament” who will be able to compete and succeed on the international stage. Rhythmic gymnastics is a combination of dance and gymnastics, performed with apparatus such as ropes, balls, hoops and ribbons on a 14m x 14m carpet. It is an excellent sport to promote the development of gross motor and fine motor skills, coordination, musicality, artistry and concentration. Formal training can start as young as 4 years and is only open to girls. Britt was a competitive rhythmic gymnast for 10 years and represented Namibia on the African Continent, both as competitive gymnast and as international judge. As judge, she represented Namibia at the Commonwealth Games, Glasgow, in 2014 and won the Referee of the Year award from the Namibian Sports Commission at the end of 2014. Britt obtained an International Coaching Qualification through the Federation Internationale de Gymnastique in 2015. She currently holds the highest graded international judging qualification in Namibia. Infinity RG will commence with gymnast assessments as from 15 February.

Namibia U19 on top against Nepal
The Namibia Football Association (NFA) Secretary-General (SG), Barry Rukoro (pictured) has been suspended because of gross insubordination. His suspension, effective as from Wednesday, was confirmed by NFA President Frans Mbidi on Wednesday. A media statement from the NFA on Wednesday said Rukoro’s suspension will run until the disciplinary process is completed. “The suspension will allow investigation and disciplinary processes to continue unhindered,” Mbidi was quoted as saying in the statement. He added that all stakeholders including the Minister of Sport, Youth and National Service, were informed of the decision. The statement said formal charges will be brought against Rukoro in due course, adding that he is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a competent panel. NFA’s Head of Competitions Titus Kunamuene, has been appointed as acting SG. He will act in the position as recommended by the NFA Emergency Committee until a full sitting of the executive committee on 20 February confirms or revokes the acting appointment. Rukoro became SG in November 2006 after the football association fired former SG Alpheus Gaweseb. NAMPA
