39 Shacks burn to ashes in 3 days Affordable housing backlog blamed… Marshallino Beukes More than 100 people are left homeless after another 20 backyard shacks were destroyed in a fire on Tuesday night in Walvis Bay’s Kuisebmond residential area. Coastal residents are pinpointing the lack of affordable housing in the region as the reason for the fires. The government and local authorities are made out as the main culprits in this status quo. This tragedy follows only two days after one person’s life was claimed by a similar scenario, also in Kuisebmond, on Sunday. In this instance a total

Inspection costs go up
Around 600 Chinese Navy officers and crew members of the 16th Chinese Navy Escort Fleet docked at the Port of Walvis Bay on Wednesday. The officers were welcomed by the Chinese Ambassador Xin Shungkang and members of the Namibian Navy and Defence Forces. More than 500 Chinese nationals and Namibians, who included school children, gave the officers a rousing welcome waving flags of the two countries as the CNS Yancheng, Luoyang and Tai Hu docked. In a welcome speech,
Ambassador Shungkang said the historic visit bears testimony of the new China-Africa strategic partnership. “Namibia is one of the youngest countries in Southern Africa. Since the diplomatic ties were set up on the following day after Namibia gained independence, China and Namibia have maintained vigorous exchanges and cooperation in high level politics, culture, economy and trade.
