Development of the Bahnhof Square Mall in Swakopmund, which was supposed to commence last year in April, is finally underway, as “issues between TransNamib Holdings and the Ministry of Works and Transport have been sorted out,” according to Mr Paulo Shipoke of Stark Property Development cc. According to Mr Shipoke the total cost of this massive new mixed-use development on the site of the TransNamib shunting yards is estimated at approximately N$450 million. The developers involved in the development of Bahnhof Square Mall are Stark Property Development cc and Eris Property Group. Excited residents of Swakopmund have been waiting for almost one year
to see this gigantic shopping centre realise and as per Shipoke, the project will kick-start next month. When asked what the reasons for the delay were, he only replied that “there were issues between TransNamib Holdings and the Ministry of Works and Transport, but those issues have been resolved, TransNamib Holdings and the Ministry of Works and Transport have come to an amicable solution”.

Shipoke is confident that the completion of the mall will be during September, next year. Once completed, the multi-phased mall is expected to accommodate around 1 000 residents, 2 000 office workers and thousands of daily shoppers. Listed as the largest shopping mall in Erongo Region, the mall will have Swakopmund, Walvis Bay, Henties Bay and the surrounding mines as its
catchment area and is banking on the further development of the new mines. The developers say it will create up to 600 jobs during the construction phase and 1500 jobs once the centre opens. From the businesses al-

Business community supports Hage Geingob unconditionally The Namibian business community on Wednesday pledged their unconditional support to incoming Head of State Dr Hage Geingob in driving the Namibian economy into a higher gear. “Namibia is in safe hands with Prime Minister and President-elect Dr Geingob at the helm of the government,” said President of the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) Sven Thieme. Speaking at a gala dinner in honour of President Hifikepunye Pohamba, who in a week’s time will retire from public office, Thieme said the partnership between the government and the business sector, in driving the economy into a higher gear, must continue. “We are aware that President Pohamba’s retirement does not mean things will stop. Our economy and the administration of our state’s affairs must continue,” he said, adding that the business community is happy to have Geingob as the successor
to the retiring President. “Geingob is well-known for his practical approach to governance and the business community has confidence in his leadership abilities. We therefore have no doubt that Namibia is in safe hands,” he said. However, Thieme said the challenges facing the economy require joint ventures and a common vision by both government and private sector. “We therefore pledge to do our best as businesses and we have no doubt that the incoming government will do their part. Together, we will achie-
ve so much,” he said. Thieme then showered President Pohamba with praises for the selfless service he has rendered to the Namibian nation and the quality of leadership that he has provided to them during his Presidency. The gala dinner that was attended by President Pohamba, business moguls, Cabinet Ministers and members of the diplomatic corps was organised to celebrate the success of Namibia under the leadership of President Pohamba over the past 10 years. The Municipality of Walvis Bay hosted a farewell dinner for Mr Derek Klazen, on Wednesday night at the Atlantic Hotel as a send-off for his journey to Parliament. In her speech, Mayor Uillika Nambahu, described Derek Klazen as a vibrant leader, who has served as the Mayor of Walvis Bay for numerous terms. “In many instances he has been a great catalyst in provoking thoughts aimed at bringing our local authority systems in line with modern era thinking, while serving on various platforms such as the Association of Local Authorities, the Namibian National Mayors’ Forum and other bodies.” She fondly shared memories and noted challenges they had overcome. One of those, the demonstration by shebeens and liquor outlets owners, who decided to go to the municipality and set up camp after their outlets had been closed down. This merely happened two to three days after Klazen stepped into the Mayoral Office for the

first time. “I am pleased to say that Councillor Klazen and I had splendid times working together. Often we debated on the best approach to solving developmental challenges facing our city. The other half of the times were spent on sharing the position of Mayor of this City. This means that there was no time wasted.” Two gifts were bestowed upon him, the first gift was given with a quote both by Napoleon Bonaparte and Sir Winston Churchill: “In Victory I deserve it. In defeat I need it’. The gift was a bottle of Johnnie Walker, Blue Label. The second gift came with the quote: “never forget where you came from, when you are on top.’’ He also received a painting to remind him of Walvis Bay. “We all here to wish you renewed strength, continued dedication and all

the best as you take up your new parliamentary appointment.” Parliamentarian Derek Klazen then thanked everyone who supported him throughout the campaign. He highlighted some of the developments he was proud to be a part of, saying land delivery excelled over the last years, and the planning of the Narraville Community Hall is in progress, Extension 12, 24 the new port, the Taxi Rank, Dolphin Park Upgrade and the Atlantic Hotel, to name a few. He then asked that the Mayor and Mr Bisey Uirab, CEO of Namport need to take hands and make Walvis Bay the powerhouse it ought to be. The night was concluded with everyone socialising and bidding their thanks and well wishes to Klazen for his journey to Parliament.
According to Mr David Nghiimbwasha, the group’s chairman, they have also informed the Swakopmund Chief Executive Officer, Mr
Eckart Demasius about the meeting. The reason for the gathering is to get clarity on where exactly the residents of the infor-
mal settlement will be moved and why residents are not notified well in advance. The meeting will start at 14:00.
Air Namibia Launches Direct Flights!

Commercial Service of Air Namibia, daily direct flights from Walvis Bay to Cape Town depart at 11:35m and arrive at 13:45, while daily flights from Walvis Bay to Johannesburg depart at 17:55 and arrive at 20:10. The flights from Johannesburg to Walvis Bay depart daily at 08:45 and arrive at 11:00,, and those from Cape Town to Walvis Bay depart at 14:35 and arrive at 16:45. “Why Walvis Bay you’re probably wondering, well Walvis Bay is the second largest centre of economic activities in Namibia, and a key centre in the national logistics hub strategy. In the last 10 years, the region recorded positive growth in economic activities and diversification by moving from being a fishing centre, to include
mining, retail, tourism and VFR. As a national airline, we will be doing Namibia a “disfavour” by not participating in the promotion of air transport services, linking Walvis Bay to other centres in the sub region. Walvis Bay airport continues to be given a facelift, and we need to ensure those investments do not turn into white elephants,” Masule said. The move comes against the background of an announcement by another carrier, Fly Africa.com, in October last year, of low-cost flights, also later intended on these routes. The fleet will be the Embraer ERJ 135 Regional Jet. Its features include an all economy class cabin with 37 seats, cabin crew on board, 3 abreast seat-
ing and it offers 66% aisle or window seating, and the largest toilet volume in class (2.01 m3) which is located at the rear of the cabin. Air Namibia’s record for on-time departures has improved to over 95%, compared to world average = 90% during the last 18 months. They have also been ranked consistently in the top 10 out of over 410 airlines, in 2014 for on time arrival. Mr Haingura also lauded Air Namibia for the fact that their turnaround straegy has returned some dividends. Mr Tony Raw, President of Walvis Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry, also congratulated the partners on the step taken, and gave his support to the efforts made.

Walvis Bay to be more than just stopover for cruise ships An artist impression of the Cruise Ship Berth
Bernabé Blaauw The Namibian Ports Authority (Namport) made it abundantly clear that Walvis Bay should become a destination for cruise ships and not just a stopover. This strong sentiment was shared with its clients during an information session in the harbour on Wednesday. After a short overview on the vision and current growth at Namport, shared by the Acting Executive for Port Operations, Mr Immanuel !Hanabeb, on behalf of the CEO, Mr Bisey Uirab, the Port Engineer, Mr Elzevir Gelderbloem delivered a presentation on the port expansion project and the short to long term developments planned for the future. During his presentation Mr Gelderbloem announced that they are of the opinion t h a t Wa l v i s B a y should feature more prominent as a cruise ship/passenger liner destination and with that in mind they plan to develop a dedicated cruise berth. He also stated that passengers will be able to walk from the ship directly to the Waterfront by way of an enclosed viaduct underneath the road and railway lines. The walkway along the lagoon will eventually be extended right up to the reclaimed con-tainer area, up to the end of the proposed marina development. Regarding the Walvis Bay Waterfront and Marina development he pointed out that the
Pre-feasibility Study has been completed and that the project is indeed feasible and is now broken down into 6 phases namely: 1. Port Infrastructure (viaduct and breakwater); 2. Public Infrastructure (roads, walkway, esplanade, iconic tower, amphitheatres, museums, smaller restaurants and public open spaces etc.); 3. Marina (floating wooden jetties, yacht club relocation, yacht repair facilities etc.); 4. Residential (luxury apartments); 5. Commercial (offices) and 6. Hotel Complex. Namport is to implement phases 1 to 3 and the Namport board is now considering construction of phase 1 namely the marina breakwater and the viaduct as part of the container terminal construction. The next step is to commence with institutional setup and tendering, after which implementation can commence by early 2016/2017. All Namport land south of berth 8 will be made available for the Waterfront development. Regarding the Port of Walvis Bay SADC Gateway, Gelderbloem said that phase 1, the Oil Terminal (new
Tanker Berths), has been awarded and is expected to start within the next few weeks and will be commissioned early 2017. The Ministry of Works and Transport awarded the contract to a consortium of companies which includes the China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC). The next phases will be the LNG Gas Terminal (for gas supply to the new power station behind Dune 7), the Multi-purpose bulk terminal (<10 million Tons p/a), the Ship and Rig Repair yard and finally the Botswana Coal Terminal (100 million Tons p/a). The total cost of the project is estimated to be N$60 billion. The Port of Lüderitz is also not left out of Namport's development strategy and Gelderbloem announced that the New Railway Line construction contract has been awarded to Tubular Track Namibia and that the site was handed over on 19 February with the expected completion date to be the middle of this year. Good news for Lüderitz is the fact that the railway line reached the gates of the harbour already.
Once the railway line is completed, then manganese exports from the Northern Cape, the main activity, becomes feasible. Additional cold storage and reefer facilities will be developed and the reconstruction of the Boatyard, a Public Private Partnership (PPP) will commence this year. In conclusion, Mr Gelderbloem also announced that the pre-feasibility study on the development of the Deepwater Port at Angra Point, located in the Skeleton Coast National Park in northern Namibia is also completed. Namport has been tasked by the Ministry of Works and Transport to conduct the feasibility study. The tender will be advertised by the middle of this year. This development is aimed at iron ore mining exports from northern Namibia.
Water woes in Swakopmund Sharlien Tjambari
The newspaper this week learned that the water supply at a certain erf in Swakopmund's Mondesa suburb, is supposedly “bottomless” although the water account shows that the house owner is in arrears for more than seven months. According to a trustworthy source, who asked not to be named, the owner of the house has been behind with the water account since early last year. The Swakopmund Municipality supposedly suspended the water services around June and July last year. Afterwards, the owner of the house, together with a municipality official allegedly opened the water illegally. Apparently the owner of the house and the municipal
employee are romantically involved. “Many residents have to sacrifice a lot to pay their water accounts, even though they know there will be nothing left to put food on the table. This is unacceptable,” the disgruntled source fumed. The outstanding amount on the water bill (in namib time's possession) of this house is to date N$6 322.90, and clearly shows that this account has not been paid for more than seven months. “It is because of
such people that the accounts of other residents double or sometimes even triple, because the municipality does not want to lose money,” the source noted. The newspaper brought the matter under the Municipality's attention and afterwards learned that they went to the house on Tuesday to disconnect the water (again). Ms Aili Gebhardt, the Municipality's Marketing & Communication Officer, Corporate Services was asked for response on this matter via email. She replied that the municipality will not be able to provide the reporter with a response, as the information provided, requires quite a thorough investigation. “Once Council has taken a position on the matter, you will be informed accordingly.”

The accused is alleged to have grabbed the purse from the victim, who was
on her way home. He got away with cash and a mobile phone. The accused claimed that his intentions for grabbing the purse was to get money, in order to go collect his Identity Document (ID) at the Ministry of Home Affairs, he however
ended up buying toiletries instead. !Naobeb admitted he was aware of his actions and pleaded guilty to the charge against him. The items !Naobeb stole from the complainant were valued close to N$2 000.
Trucks, condition of traffic signs pose danger Madelaine Loubscher The newspaper recently received complaints regarding several areas in Walvis Bay where vehicle driver’s view is either obstructed by parked trucks, or the road traffic signs are not clearly visible, posing danger to road users. According to the complaints, the trucks that obstruct a driver’s view are a real danger and have allegedly been posing a danger for a very long time, without anything constructive being done to solve the problem, in spite of numerous complaints. “The trucks on the roads obstructing a driver’s view are unacceptable. I cannot understand how this is being allowed. Sometimes the trucks are even parked one on each side of the road and you have to drive to the middle of the road in order to see if any cars are coming. It is dangerous. There are rules and the rules must be followed,” the complainant said. In another area in Walvis Bay, the surface of road
traffic signs has faded severely. “Some of these signs cannot be seen. At a certain area the letters on a stop sign is no longer visible and at another area, the whole stop sign is gone. There is also a hole in the road near the vicinity of the Cricket Club and a lot of sand heaping up again in Meersig, all posing a danger to road users. Do we have to wait for accidents to happen before something is done?” The newspaper spoke to the Chief Traffic Officer of Walvis Bay, Mr Eben Platt, who said that the matter will be reported to the Roads and Building department. “We as Traffic Officers are from the Law Enforcement, but we will report the matter to the Roads and Building department. People must understand that this is a harbour town and Walvis
Bay does not have a truck port. The matter will be reported though.” In regard to another complaint, a resident alleged that drivers do not stop at the red traffic light in front of Walvis Bay Primary School when children try to cross the road at the pedestrian crossing. “I drive there almost every day and see how people simply ignore the red traffic light when children want to cross. I have informed the traffic department about the problem,” she said. Mr Platt responded by saying that anyone noticing drivers ignoring this red light should take the registration numbers and hand it to a traffic officer. “They are welcome to take the registration numbers and to report it, but they must also be willing to testify that they saw it happen,” he concluded.

Moringa Tree – Symbol of Life Campaign Reporter
Today – as part of our HIV-AIDS campaign in collaboration with PEPFAR, we focus on the Moringa Tree – the symbol of Life for our “Share you Status with Those you Love” campaign. What is the relevance of the Moringa tree and HIV/AIDS in this campaign? The Moringa Tree thrives under severe climatic conditions: in poor infertile and dry soils. Similarly, HIV positive people suffer severe conditions of stigmatisation, strict diet, that includes a
strict self management programme. As the Moringa tree grows under such strenuous conditions, it symbolises endurance, resilience, hope and finally victory. Likewise, HIV positive people as they overcome the adverse conditions they are living under, they also epitomise
endurance, resilience, hope and victory. Mr Bernard Kamatoto the campaign ambassador has been living positively for 15 years. His life has become a living testimony of this endurance, resilience, hope and victory in the management of the condition. As a fully grown tree, the Mo-
ringa provides, shade, nourishment to humans, animals and the environment. Among its other numerous benefits, are its supposedly medicinal prosperities. People living positively with HIV, will be able to be productive among their families, societies and the work place.

Obtain a permit from the Namibian Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources (MFMR) to catch fish or dive for crayfish and respect harvesting limitations. WHY? The marine resources are limited and currently some of them are overfished or over collected. It is necessary that everybody uses them wisely and carefully to secure the future harvesting needs by protecting the stock. Quantity/number of marine resources harvestable, minimum size limits of fish and crayfish that can be caught, open season etc. help to manage stocks to avoid the total disappearance of some species in our waters. Do not leave bait or fish on the beach! Either take it home or return it to the sea. This food attracts scavengers like jackals and gulls that prey on other bio-diversity. When you are back home after the holiday, it also inflates the predator population. Where can you get a license for angling, crayfish diving & bait/mussels collection?

Marshallino Beukes China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd (CHEC), the company responsible for the construction of the new container terminal on reclaimed land in Walvis Bay, on Tuesday invited the media to a site visit and it was evident that great strides have been made, since the project kicked off during May last year. The N$3,38 billion contract was awarded in November 2013 and the completion of the project is scheduled for 18 May 2017. This gigantic project includes the construction of a quay wall, STS Quay cranes and dredging works in the Port of Walvis Bay. According to CHEC’s acting project manager, Mr Yuanfei Feng, they have finished about 25% of the project, up to date. “We believe that this project will change the way Namibia does business and will take this country to greater heights,” Mr Feng noted. He acknowledged the fact that CHEC has not always been forthcoming with required information to the media and that their relationship with the media was not “always of the best.” In order to overcome this gap, Jezreel Communications and Events, a professional public relations company was appointed. He informed the media present that their first deadline will be on 4 February 2016, when reclamation must be completed. The quay wall must be completed by 11 April 2016 and four months onward, the revetment

must also be completed. The project requires a substantial amount of concrete and therefore, a cement batching plant has been established. CHEC also has a laboratory on site, in order to ensure that all materials used in the production of the concrete are of the highest international standards and meet the requirements of the contract. The concrete batching plant will produce more than 100 000 cubic metres of concrete required for the project. With safety, health and environment issues in mind, various control measures are in place to mitigate some of these impacts. CHEC has already reclaimed 1.25 million cubic metres of land, which represents a 44% completion rate. A sandbag cofferdam was created to prevent the dredging material and muddy water from overflowing during the process of reclamation. Mr Feng also touched on the issue of hydrogen sulphide protection and noted that they have various gas monitoring equipment across a wide area of the site of operations. The grab Dredger in action and the total number of locals to be employed over the duration of the project is 300. Approximately 260 Chinese nationals are currently employed, of which 70 are on the management team. Feng emphasized the fact that most of the local workers were initially employed as general workers. However, some of them have since progressed to semi-skilled positions. “This is mainly as a result of training opportunities afforded to our staff,” he remarked. Over N$100 million has already been spend locally, said Feng. The contract requires that 31.8% of the total contract value should be spent on local procuremend and Feng is confident that they will meet this target. N$170 million has in addition been allocated to assisting SME development, the media was informed. In conclusion Mr Feng uttered his confidence that the project will be completed on time and within budget.

The Rotary Interact Club (RIC) inaugurated their new Walvis Bay Committee for 2015 on Tuesday. At the event, Mr Buddy Glover, described all previous RIC presidents, along with their committees, as exceptional leaders. The Rotary Interact Club carries out non-profit projects, based on community service, environment and township upliftment. The Club has already completed various projects, which vastly benefited the community of Walvis Bay. These projects include a National AIDS Awareness Project, Stationary Project, SPCA Project, Arbor Day Project and many charity drives, which involve donating school fees to underprivileged children. Alexandra Kotchoubei from the International School of Walvis Bay was elected as president for 2015. In her opening speech she said, “I have many ideas and visions for this club, generally to create more awareness of situations within our community and to be more involved with the
people.” Duneside Private High School started the first Interact Club in Walvis Bay during 2010, with the assistance of Rotarians, Mr Buddy Glover and Mr Case Fischer and the previous principal of the school, Mrs van Vuuren. The Club currently has five participating schools namely Duneside Private High School, International School of Walvis Bay, Dolphin Secondary School, Walvis Bay Private High School and Duinesig Combined School. Approximately 9 000 Interact Clubs are registered globally, with a membership of around 210 000 teenagers. bilities and also to get involved in charity activities. They participate in Rotary Youth Leadership camps, International Exchange programs and many conferences worldwide. Eusebio Omar Van Reenen (previous president), said in his closing speech, “being in the Interact Club surely does your school and the committee proud. Therefore I would like to thank the principals in allowing the representation of their students in this International Humanitarian aid Club.” Buddy Glover also congratulated Eusebio Omar Van Reenen for the outstanding work he has done during his year as president. JJ`s Care Centre needs help Marshallino Beukes
JJ`s Care Centre, an Edu-Therapy Day Care facility for children with physical and mental disabilities, as well as for children with learning difficulties, is in urgent need of new premises. The Centre opened its doors on 1 September 2014 in Walvis Bay and was inspired by the Justin Selby Care Centre which was founded by Kim Koch in December 2012, South Africa (East London). The Justin Selby Care Centre was named after a Cerebral Palsy boy, named Justin (Kim’s son) who has been inspiring so many parents out there with children like him. Justin is five years old. He was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy Spastic Diaplegia at 18 months. Justin is able to sit with support and he can roll from one side to another, but isn’t able to crawl or walk. He can communicate and loves interacting with other children and discovering all the simple things in life that we so often take
for granted, such as the trees, flowers, and animals. He also attends the JJ`s Care Centre. The Centre believes that all children should be given the opportunity to develop to their fullest potential. The Centre is based on a Christian foundation and offers guidance, support and a loving environment for special needs children. They accommodate mentally and physically disabled children of all ages as well as children with speech and learning difficulties. All children attending the Centre receive meals and snacks during the day while taking part in necessary physical/speech and occupational therapy, stimulation and activity programs. The Centre rely solely on the generosity, in-
terest and kind hearts of the community for support. They also provide training for home based care programs for children with disabilities and sign language workshops. The Centre is always open to volunteers to come spend time with the children, interacting with them and learning about each one's individual needs. The JJ`s Care Centre currently has 18 children attending the centre. Disabilities of the current children attending the centre are Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Deaf and Hard Deaf as well as Shaken Baby Syndrome. They require a house with separate rooms that can be used as classes, need a fully functional kitchen as well as a therapy room. At the moment they are making use
of a church, which has been an amazing start for them, but they are unable to accommodate all the children. Families, friends, companies and individuals are urged to please try and get involved with this project. The Centre is also running an adopt-a-child campaign and encourages the public to commit to a monthly donation of N$300 to the centre which will be used towards food and stationery for the children. The Centre aims to provide a safe, spacious and hygienic facility for the care and development of children with severe physical and mental disabilities. In so doing, they hope to provide peace of mind and relief for the families of these children.

FINANCE
Monthly’s Monitor: February 2015 So far in 2015 the emerging markets equity index performance has picked up returning 3.7%, just below the developed markets' equity index, which returned 4% (both in US Dollar terms). However, improved equity performances do not relieve these emerging markets of their economic and social challenges. Market Review: On the 25th of February, South Africa's (SA) Finance Minister Nene delivered the Na-tional Budget Speech. The focus was on further consolidating the fiscal deficit. However, government funding support is still desperately needed on many fronts. The SA government will provide financial support to numerous parastatals. Tax relief will also be
granted to small businesses. In order to fund the financing gap the government is increasing personal taxes for the first time in twenty years. An increase in the fuel levy will be implemented, and a proposal was made for a future increase in the electricity levy as well. Key areas of growth in government spending shall remain on edu-
Table 1: Asset Class Returns (in N$):
cation, welfare, health and infrastructure. SA's current account deficit needs to be reduced. Healthy economic growth, low inflation and upbeat consumer spending are important to the government of SA but also to investors as these economic fundamentals provide support for asset class performances. See table 1 below for asset class returns over various periods:
Sources: Various Portfolio Performances: Although markets move in random ways over shorter periods like a month, they become more predictable given enough time. Below we show the performances of cash: the steady thin red line – a proxy for cash and bonds (safety assets) and local shares: the volatile thin brown line – a proxy for different types of shares (growth assets), and my six managed portfolios as graphed by MoneyMate. Graph 1: 12 Month Returns
Local cash continues to generate returns below inflation, but fortunately local bonds have continued a relatively good performance, allowing all our safer portfolios to outperform their benchmarks. The Conservative Plus portfolio returned 8.4%, the Cautious portfolio obtained 10%, and the Cautious Plus portfolio managed to generate 11% returns over the past year. SA equities have had a good February, mainly thanks to a slight rebound in mining shares. SA property shares have also continued their strong run into 2015. Therefore, our riskier portfolios have also beaten their benchmarks. The Moderate
portfolio returned 12.4%, the Moderate Plus portfolio obtained 13.2% and the Assertive portfolio generated 15.3% for the past year. Valuations and Risks: The price of Brent Crude Oil shot up in February to end the month at US$61 per barrel (price at 1st Feb was US$49 per barrel), providing some relief to emerging market oil exporters. ∙ US United States equities remain on a bullish trend, although there is movement out of the US and into European Union (EU) equities where valuations are more favourable. The Federal Reserve is keeping interest rates on hold as inflation
remains low and growth continues on a steady path. ∙ EU EU equities are thriving on inflows from out of the US, and on the supportive platform of increased liquidity from economic stimulus, as well as low inflation. The European Central Bank continues its asset-purchasing program to stimulate the economy. ∙ ASIA The Chinese Central Bank made a surprise interest rate cut in response to lower inflation and slower growth. The Chinese equity market has had a positive month and manufacturing figures have improved in response to the monetary easing. Japan is gaining favour with equity investors as the Japanese equity index outperforms other developed markets in February. Wage growth is at its fastest in 15 years. ∙ SA In SA listed property is still the best performing asset class over the past y e a r. S A e q u i t i e s continue on a bullish trend and bonds have managed to shake off any negativity stemming from the President's State of the Nation Address, and whatever doubts there may be regarding the Budget Speech. In Conclusion: Recent industry statistics show that Namibians are moving away from cash and bonds into multi-asset unit trust solutions, such as the Sanlam Namibia Inflation Linked Fund. These funds have the advantage of being well-managed diversified investments with a slightly higher risk but also much better returns than cash. Why don't you join this growing trend and give me a call for a free consultation? We can do so much better than bank rates, which means you can reach your savings goal faster or retire earlier.

Onkel Fritz, in seiner Not, haut und trampelt alles tot. Guckste wohl!
„Meister Müller, he, heran!

Looking back as VW Kombi turns 65 Wolfsburg, Germany - Most of us would like to retire at 65, but Volkswagen's versatile van just keeps on going. When Dutch car importer Ben Pon visited Wolfsburg in 1947, he saw a scrap Beetle chassis that had been made into a flat-bed for moving components around the plant. That sparked the idea of a cheap and cheerful delivery van with forward controls and a box body on a Beetle platform. He quickly drew a sketch in his notebook and showed it to plant manager Heinrich Nordhoff, who was canny enough to recognise a stroke of genius when he saw one. Tw o y e a r s l a t e r Nordhoff presented four prototypes - two panel vans, an eightseater bus and a multipurpose vehicle - to VW's bosses and the Transporter was born. It was designed from the outset as a workh o r s e ; N o r d h o ff famously said: “These vehicles won't be handled with kid gloves,
rather they will be treated roughly. In one of the first instances of platform engineering, he lifted the drivetrain and suspension of the Beetle as two complete sub-assemblies but, instead of using a fabricated spine chassis, he put a simple box body on top of a ladder frame, making the new model both robust and versatile. Its 1.1-litre aircooled flat four churned out 18kW at 3300rpm, and the two passenger benches in the bus version could be quickly removed to make way for about 750kg of cargo, hence the nickname Kombi, which has stuck ever since - except in Germany, where it's affectionately nicknamed 'Bulli'. A NEW WAY TO TRAVEL Production of the Transporter began on 8 March 1950 at the rate of 10 a day. By the end of the year 8001 had been built
and demand was growing; it was cheap, it was tough and it was adaptable - exactly what a Germany, just beginning to recover from the ravages of war, needed. A one-off Transporter fitted out as a camper was shown at the 1951 Berlin motor show and suddenly Volkswagen realised it had not only invented a new way to travel, it
also had a major hit on its hands. Export sales took off; the 100 000th Transporter came off the assembly line in Hall 1 during 1954, by which time the VW's 'microbus' had crossed the Alps and carried its first load of hippies to India. Production - in no less than 30 different variants - had been there was no way pushed to 80 a day, but Wo l f s b u r g c o u l d
handle any more and anyway, the space was needed to make more Beetles. So, a new plant was built at Stocken in Hannover; it began production in March 1956, just in time to ride the global postwar recovery boom. Today, more than 11 million T-series vehicles spanning five generations have been built worldwide, and the sixth-generation
T6 will go into production at Stocken later this year. The California camper - the successor to that 1951 show special - is built at a special plant not far away in Limmer, while the Transporter bus is produced at Poznan in Poland, and another plant is being built in nearby Wrzesnia for the new Crafter. Ben Pon has much to answer for.

THOUGHTS FOR THE WEEK Friday- Isaiah 43:19 (NIV)
See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland. Read Isaiah 43 Read Isaiah Saturday- Deuteronomy 31:6 (NIV) Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."Read Deuteronomy 31Read Deuteronomy SundayJeremiah 29:11 (NIV) For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Read Jeremiah 29 Read Jeremiah Monday- Isaiah 41:10 (NIV) So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, let this week be a blessed one for all brothers and sisters. May your holy spirit guide, direct the way for those seeking your help to make important decisions, let those working hard reap fruits of their labor, inspire confidence to those shattered, console those who may have lost a loved one, provide strength to those suffering from serious illness and instill hope to those weighed down with anxieties of life. Above all show your love and mercy upon those who strive to walk in your ways in this ungodly world. As imperfect, puny humans the desires of the flesh may cause us to sin against you knowing or unknowingly. Please protect us Father and forgive us for all our short comings. Recalling Jas.4:8 which says "Draw close to God, and he will draw close to you" I call upon all to light up candles of faith and hope for glorious week. Amen!

The youngsters in our midst played some excellent golf and took a clean sweep in the 18 hole competition. A big thanks to the sponsor Coral vd Plas and "Ruheleben" Olive Oil Farm. Next week we will have a new sponsor " Engen" with some exciting vouchers up for grabs. FNB Welwitschias look forward to next game against Pumas Madri Frewer, Marketing Manager of FNB Namibia has expressed her gratitude towards all the supporters who supported the FNB Welwitschias last Friday against the Xerox Lions, despite the pouring wet conditions. “We urge everyone to make a plan for even more support this coming Friday the 13th when our national team takes on the Steval Pumas at 19:00.” Frewer added that great entertainment was guaranteed and supporters also stood a chance to win great prizes, amongst others N$2 000 cash in the FNB Kick for Cash competition. We received a comment from Lions captain Ricky Schroeder who said: “We drew energy from the vibe of the crowd, which was bigger than we get at some venues in this competition.” Henry Kemp, coach of the FNB Welwitschias said that the past week's game had been a fast paced one and the team took a while to adapt to the tempo. “Playing against a full professional squad gave our players valuable experience that they could carry forward to the next game against the Pumas. As a Namibian team we have to try and be more patient and keep the ball for longer periods of time like we did late in the 2nd half of
the game. It's still a learning curve but we are confident that our boys would be up for it.” He also thanked the supporters and added: “The support was brilliant with everybody wanting the FNB Welwitschias to perform well. A lot of
supporters had their Namibian jerseys on and that really created an enormous vibe around the field.” FNB is also elated on the announcement of the Namibia Rugby Union that any school child that wears his/her school uniform or

Kudus se Liga Seisoen Skop Môre af teen Unam Sportverslaggewer
Inteendeel gaan hul hard moet kopkrap in sekere
Ashley Freygang maak sake darem ietwat ligter.
borough Lawrence gaan sonder twyfel more 'n verskil maak.
