HEAR OUR CRY: A group of former and retired fishermen arrived unexpectedly with placards at the Walvis Bay Town Hall yesterday before the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Bernard Esau, was due to give his annual address to the fishing industry. The group staged a peaceful protest in order to draw the minister's attention to their plight which relates to them not benefitting from the fishing industry they had helped to build and wanting to know what they should do to be awarded a fishing quota. Officials moved quickly and confiscated the placards from the group. They then extended an invitation to them to meet with the Permanent Secretary after the Minister’s address. The group accepted. The media was barred from attending the session between them and the minister. Picture by Mavourlene Gaes
