Sharlien Tjambari Windpomp Mile 14 was officially launched on Friday, only weeks after refurbishments started in terms of a joint venture by Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR) and Sun Karros. The event was hosted by NWR during which the company's managing director Zelna Hengari praised this joint venture which now added a grand new visitors facility to the central west coast. According to Hengari a group by the name of ISIS Investments signed a twenty-five year lease agreement for Mile 14 with NWR in August 2008. However, rough seas weeks after the deal washed away large parts of Mile 14 and ISIS Investments could not continue with plans to develop the area. This year NWR rekindled the fires of a joint venture and entered into an agreement for the lease and development of Mile 14 with Sun Karros.
In a record few weeks Sun Karros managed to transform Mile 14 into a breathtaking holiday facility, including the iconic Windpomp Mile 14 pub-concept which is expected to become iconic for visitors both from Namibia but also outside the country's borders. This very unique feature include a landing strip which enables light aircraft to taxi right up to the pub and drop off passengers for an enjoyable time.

Topnaars receive German Assistance The Topnaar community of the Utuseb village outside Walvis Bay on Monday received a heritage-festival centre worth more than N$3 million through the Namibia-German Special Initiative Programme (NGSIP). It consists of bungalows for overnight guests and tourists, a kiosk, a community hall, traditional court, a camp for festivals, the chief's traditional house, an administration block and ablution facilities. The NGSIP assists developmental projects for communities that have historic ties with the German government such as the Nama, Damara, OvaHerero and San. It funds small-scale social and economic infrastructure projects that benefit the poor and have an impact on poverty. Deputy Minister of Economic and National Planning, Lucia Iipumbu and the German Ambassador to Namibia, Christian Matthias Schlaga handed over the centre to Topnaar Chief, Seth Kooitjie and his community on Monday. A media statement issued by the NGSIP on Friday quoted Iipumbu as saying the community and public must play their role towards the maximum utilisation of the facility. She pointed out that the centre is not only for use by the community but also other institutions such as Government, non-governmental organisations (NGO)'s and international organisations such as United Nations (UN) bodies. “This centre should not be idle, it should be self-sustaining through any commercial purposes which would bring income for the community,” said the deputy minister. Iipumbu urged the community to respect and preserve their culture for the sake of future generations. “Culture is slowly taking over wildlife, especially among tourists, thus I urge the Topnaar community to explore ways to promote their culture to uplift their livelihoods and grow the economy,” she appealed. Schlaga noted his delights that the German government could support part of the traditional structures, not only keep them alive but also to ensure they can function in line with the modern structures of Government. “I believe this centre can make a difference in the lives of this community, if put to good use,” he said. On his part, Kooitjie said he is grateful to receive the centre on behalf of the community and thanked the Namibian and German governments for the role that NGSIP played in supporting the community by establishing the centre. He also announced that the facility will be named after his late father and former Topnaar Chief, Esau Saneseb Kooitjie. The same media statement indicates that on the same day, the OvaHerero community under the Zeraeua Traditional Authority in Omatjete also received a multi-purpose commercial centre from the NGSIP. The centre is also worth more than N$3 million. NAMPA
Vierkantklip is walglik....
Fatal crash - 3 drivers charged Madelaine Laubscher The three drivers, who were respectively behind the steering wheels of two vehicles and a truck, that were all involved in a fatal accident five kilometres north of Swakopmund on the Henties Bay road on 5 December, were charged in the Swakopmund magistrate's court with drunken driving, culpable homicide and reckless and negligent driving (accident scene pictured left). An employee of Swakop Uranium, Kaino Antonius (26) died in the accident. The suspects, Africa Hinananye Kuhatumwa (36), Amakali Nataniel (34) and Paulus Mbako (32) appeared in the Swakopmund Magistrates Court on Monday and

were released on bail. Kuhatumwa faces an additional charge of leaving the scene of an accident without ascertaining whether there were injuries or damage to property. Kuhatumwa was released on bail of N$5 000 and he will next appear in court on 17
February 2016. Amakali was released on bail of N$4 000 and his case has been postponed to 4 April 2016. It is unknown on what bail amount Mbako, the driver of the truck, was released and when he returns to court.
Hy was reeds etlike dae oorlede.

Spyl leader Naville Andre sets Companies urged to good example for land purchases report fire drills timely
The Mayoral garden, on the corner of Sam Nujoma Avenue and Rikumbi Kandanga Road is making way for a multi-million Namibia Dollar commercial complex. The land was sold earlier this year to Swapo Youth Leaque (Spyl) leader Naville Andre for N$1,5 million. Andre is reported to have successfully negotiated a N$300 000 discount on the sales price with the Walvis Bay town council and also paid a 10 % compulsory green fee. A closer examination of the process by which Andre bought the land can be regarded as a good example of how municipal land should be alienated and developed, according to a municipal source consulted. The Walvis Bay town council resolved on 1 October 2013 that the1700 square meter Mayoral garden be sold to André, at a rate of N$1000 per square meter. After negotiating a discount (also a decision Council made by resolution), Andre settled the sales amount and green fee in three installments. Only after meeting all the conditions, the land was transferred to the ownership of Andre in June this year. Within months after transfer, Andre commenced development.
”We are talking of a number of aspects in which this land deal can be used as the yard stick for all future land deals. The sales price was market related and no exceptions were made. With only weeks to two years, Andre started developing the land. The development is only to the benefit of Walvis Bay as it would make more commercial space available for shops and service providers to establish offices,” the source said. Adding the municipality of Walvis Bay should use such examples in dealing with future investors in land in the harbour town. “We have a shortage of land, both for residential and commercial develop-ment. We don’t have to take the first applicant. The person or institution that are willing to pay a market related price and start development without delay should be the preferred partner,” he concluded.
Mavourlene !Gaёs Walvis Bay's Fire Brigade is urging companies in the harbour town to inform them in advance of fire drills, as there is a sharp rise in the number of false alarms received. Members of the public, not informed about fire drills, make emergency calls when they see evacuations from buildings. As recently as last week, a fire alarm was raised only to discover it was Merlus Seafood Processors carrying out a fire drill. That was after the fire brigade wasted valuable time and public money responding. According to Walvis Bay fireman, Werner Namiseb, they received a call just before five o'clock on Wednesday
afternoon informing them about the fire at Merlus. The caller gave no further details. “The person just phoned, said there is a fire and hung up. We immediately informed the police who then sounded the alarm to summon volunteer firefighters. By the time they got to the company they found out that it was just a fire
drill.” Namiseb added these types of calls are putting the community members in unnecessary unrest when they hear the alarm go off. “Although it is very important to have fire drills in companies, we should be informed in order to prevent wasting responses.

Warning about seabed mining On 10 December 2015 MINEWEB published an article entitled “Environmentalists warn against seabed mining in South Africa” stating that marine phosphate mining off South Africa's shores poses a threat to marine ecosystems and commercial fishing.
The following are pertinent points in that article which are equally applicable to Namibia in its consideration of the further application of its Moratorium on marine phosphate mining: ·South African environmentalists have added to the growing global dissent against seabed mining, calling for a moratorium on exploration related to bulk marine sediment mining in local waters. ·They regard bulk sediment marine mining as “equivalent to strip mining in the ocean”. This, as the process involves using a trailing suction hopper dredger (a ship with powerful suction pumps that run to the seabed) to dredge the seabed in order to remove marine sediment. This sediment is then transferred to the shore where minerals are extracted before excess sediment and water is released back into the ocean. ·While mining companies used concerns about food security to motivate for these mining rights, given South Africa's vast terrestrial reserves environmentalists believe any phosphates mined in local waters would be for export. “It seems completely irrational, as they would essentially be destroying one form of food security on arguments around a n o t h e r, ” c i t i n g threats to the country's commercial fishing
industry as well as to communities which rely on fishing for their livelihoods. · As a result of opposition by environmental groups and the country's fishing industry, in September 2013 the Namibian govern-ment placed a moratorium on marine phosphate mining. It also commissioned independent scoping studies and environmental impact assessment research on its maritime zone. While the country has long benefitted from marine diamond mining, in which either hoses or diameter drills are used to bring diamond bearing gravel from the ocean-floor to the surface, opponents a rg u e d t h a t b u l k marine sediment mining is more disruptive. · Writing for the South African Institute of International Affairs, Alex Benkenstein said among the concerns raised was “the release of concentrations of hydrogen sulphide and reduced phosphorous compounds in sediment, which are toxic and could lead to low oxygen levels in the water. The release of heavy metals from seabed sediments could also lead to these elements being absorbed in the food chain and ultimately impacting fisheries products.” · The South African Centre for Environmental Rights is hopeful that the Namibian Moratorium could put the SA Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) under pressure as the
Benguela Current Convention, of which South Africa, like Namibia, is a signatory, requires the responsible management of shared resources. “As with the moratorium on fracking, government should not proceed with seabed mining, until at the very least, a strategic environmental assessment has been undertaken.” ·The DMR has no capacity for monitoring seabed mining. The cumulative impact of an unregulated industry would be disastrous. · Rights for mining in the high seas are dependent upon the International Seabed Authority, created by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, which provides the legal framework for the
world's oceans and seas. Regarding the last point it is worth noting: 1.The Namibian Constitution stipulates in Article 144 that “international agreements binding upon Namibia under this Constitution shall form part of the law of Namibia”. 2. Namibia is party to the said Convention on the Law of the Sea, to the Benguela Current Convention and to the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development (1992). 3. The precautionary principle has been incorporated into a growing number of international treaties, conventions and other legal instruments. It is most concisely deined in Principle 15 of the Rio Declaration: “In order to protect the en-
vironment, the precautionary approach shall be widely applied by States where there are threats of serious or irreversible damae, lack of full scientific certainty”. 4. The precautionary ap-proach has now become a matter of customary international law as shown by its recognition by international courts and tribunals, including the International Court of Justice. Consequently, Namibia must apply the Precautionary Principle which not only forms “part of the law of Namibia” but is part of Namibia's obligations in international law. Because these obligations are binding Namibia has no alternative but to fulfill them faithfully. 5. Furthermore, numerous articles in the Convention on the Law of the Sea impose
on Na-mibia equally significant international obligations to protect its marine environment with respect to seabed mining. Articles 192, 193, 194 and 293 are most relevant. · According to Article 192 States have the “obligation to protect and preserve the marine environment”. · Article 193 gives sovereign States the right to exploit their natural resources pursuant to their environmental policies and in accordance with “their duty to protect and preserve the marine environment”. · Article 194(5) places this obligation on States: “The measures taken in accordance with this Part shall include those necessary to protect and preserve rare and fragile ecosystems as well as the habitat of depleted, threatened or endangered species
and other forms of marine life”. · Article 293 grants States the right to take action “in accordance with their duty to protect and preserve the marine environment”. Even today, surprisingly little is known about the world's marine ecosystems, their structures, functions and dynamics, inevitably prompting scientists unanimously to advocate a precautionary approach where solid research is lacking. The bottom line, therefore, still remains the same: restraint on development in the absence of firm evidence that it will do no harm. Swakopmund Matters 35 of 2015 (For Swakopmund Matters the environment of the Namibian coastline and its ocean matters)

Get a bank demand guarantee for peace of mind In business relationships contracting parties may require performance or payment from each other. Demand Guarantees provides contracting parties with the comfort that such performance or payment will occur. But what are Demand Guarantees and how does one go about getting one? “Demand Guarantees are issued by a Bank (the Guarantor) to a Beneficiary on behalf of its Client. When the Bank's Client defaults under the contractual agreement with the Beneficiary, the Beneficiary is only required to make a written demand on the Bank in order to receive payment. Thus a Demand Guarantee is a type of protection that provides contracting parties with peace of mind,” says Anton Smit, Executive Officer: Credit at Bank Windhoek. “A guarantee is by its nature independent of the underlying contractual relationship, and the Bank is in no way concerned with or bound thereby. A reference in the Guarantee to the underlying relationship for the purpose of identifying it does not change the independent nature of the guarantee. What this
means is that the Bank is obliged to honour complying claims received on guarantees, even despite any contrary claims or defenses arising from the Bank's Client,” Smit explains. Some of the most commonly used Types of Demand Guarantees are: Tender Guarantee/ Bid Bond: Used to secure Tender commitment pays out when Client defaults on the terms of the Tender. Performance Guarantee: Used to secure the commitment of the Client to com-plete/ comply with contract pays out. when client defaults on the terms of the Contract. Retention Guarantee: Used as retention on works done (warranty) - pays out when Client does not rectify faults identified during the
warranty period. Credit Facility Guarantee: Used to secure a facility granted by a Creditor - pays out when Client does not honor payments of the facility. Payment Guarantee: Used to secure payment for goods - pays out when presented. Advanced Payment Guarantee: Used to secure prepayment of payments done in advance to client - pays out if client does not honor repayment/ complete Contract. Lease Guarantee: Used as deposit for a lease agreement - pays out if client defaults on lease agreement. “Bank Windhoek prides itself on keeping abreast with the latest international developments. In this respect, the Bank's demand guarantees are subject to the International
Chamber of Commerce Uniform Rules for Demand Guarantees (“URDG”) No. 758,” said Smit. The purpose of a Demand Guarantee is to provide comfort to Beneficiaries. For example: ·To provide the Beneficiary with security/ financial compensation for any losses he/it may suffer in the event where his/its business partner does not fulfill his contractual obligation; or ·To protect the importer (buyer) against the risk that the exporter (seller) fails to honour his/its delivery commitments, e.g. if the delivery is delayed or the seller does not deliver the ordered goods; or ·To secure any claims the importer may have against the seller in the event of any defects
Anton Smit, Executive Officer: Credit at Bank Windhoek established after delivery of goods. A variant of this guarantee may also be used to trigger payment of the last installment of purchase price/the release of retention money, or ·To provide compensation where credit facilities are extended and such arrangements are not honoured, eg. Wholesalers/ Retailers, or
·A demand guarantee can be used to substitute the payment of cash deposits, such as in the instances of Lease Agreements where a deposit is always required, or ·A person can use a demand guarantee to secure the performance of a contractor or such person that needs to perform under a contract. This is very common in the con-
struction industry. How do you apply or obtain a Demand Guarantee? “When contracting with another party always insist on a Bank Demand Guarantee for peace of mind. Should you be required to furnish such a guarantee, contact your nearest Bank Windhoek Branch who will gladly assist you,” Smit concluded.

Although rumours want it that a delegation of the German Air Force is expected in Namibia soon to inspect the pieces of plane wreckage that was recovered by a Namibian fishing vessel off Terrace Bay recently, official channels indicate the Germans are yet to confirm whether part numbers of the recovered wreckage are indeed that of the German Air Force plane that went down in the area in 1999 after a mid-air collision with an American Air Force transporter. The Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Department of Transport in the Ministry of Works and Transport, Ericksson Nengola, confirmed yesterday that digital pictures of the parts recovered as well as part numbers were provided to the German Air Force, via the local German diplomatic mission. The Air Force is yet to confirm whether the parts and part numbers fit that of the Tupolov 154M that went down on 13 September 1999 after colliding off the Namibian coast with an Amercian C141 Starlifter. The hake trawler Ambrose Bay’s trawl net got stuck in a heavy underwater object in 748 meters of waters 220 nautical miles northwest of Walvis Bay on the afternoon of 23 November this year. When the net was pulled up the crew to their astonishment discovered a large chunk of a plane wreckage was caught in the net. The wing unfortunately dis-attached from the wreckage, resulting in the biggest part sinking back to the seabed. It is now up to the German Air Force to determine whether indeed the part of the wing that was recovered is that of the T145M, and whether a search of the area is warranted.

namib times/PEPFAR voluntary HIV/Aids testing a big success Liesl Losper
A total of 34 people made use of a free HIV/Aids testing campaign the namib times hosted in Walvis Bay on Saturday, as part of the namib times/PEPFAR Know Your Status Campaign. The tests were conducted in Walvis Bay's central business district at the Seagull Shopping Mall and Woerman Brock Narraville. Every test was fol-
lowed up by a counselling session whereby people were informed of their status and also educated about the dangers of this pandemic, prevention
and the care of people living with HIV/Aids. The next testing session is scheduled for Saturday at selected points in Kuisebmond that is yet to be announced. More test days will be conducted early in 2016. Regular testing is a good reminder that an HIV-test should be part of your regular health check. Drives
like this is important as it keeps people aware of their lifestyles versus HIV/ Aids. The Walvis Bay Corridor Group (WBCG) who is a valuable smart partner in the namib times/PEPFAR HIV/Aids Know Your Status Campaign also assisted in the project. “I am gratified by the success of our cam-
paign today. With so many millions of lives at stake, we need to educate and encourage people to have HIV/Aids testing. As public health leaders, we need to be bold and open-minded to save lives said Stephanus Frans, a nurse at the Walvis Bay Corridor G r o u p We l l n e s s mobile testing clinic.

Restoration Centre Food Drive Narraville Liesl Losper About 120 members of the Restoration Centre organised a food drive in the streets of Narraville. One hundred boxes containing groceries were distributed to residents of Narraville. The members identified families and registered them at the centre in order to make sure that these groceries go to the needy. They went from door to door delivering these groceries and also prayed with the families in their houses. The Pastor said they normally give food donations on a monthly basis and when needed, but not in this huge quantity at a time. “We were so blessed by sponsors like RollsRoyce, Mpact, Silver Engeneering, Flower Box, VC Transport, Traffic department, Push Mini-stries and especially Dr Kock from the namib times. Without them this success will not be as huge as it is today. Thank you again for opening your hearts for the needy, Pastor Randal from the Center said. The residents were so surprised when the members came to their houses and handed them these boxes. Some of the residents were very emotional and mostly surprised with this gesture. The centre intends to organise more drives like this. They would also like to thank all the sponsors involved in this project.

Your festive fun, their nightmare Madelaine Laubscher Walvis Bay SPCA, in collaboration with residents, hosted a march against fireworks on Saturday morning in Walvis Bay. The march was organised to sensitise and educate the public about the use of fireworks over the festive period that leads to traumatising pets. Although only a handful of residents showed interest in the march, the SPCA deemed it a good start and hope the event will grow next year. An organiser admitted more needed to be done to market such events prior, as they believe the public will definitely support such an event overwhelmingly. “Every year during the new year celebrations, citizens choose to ignore municipal bylaws that prohibit setting off fireworks in urban areas. The noise disturbs pets and it causes them to hide for days in a state of panic or running away from their homes. Thus many pets go missing, are knocked over by vehicles and the SPCA becomes over-crowded with rescued- and in-
jured animals,” said one of the organisers. “Fireworks pose a danger, not only to animals, but also to people and property. We ask everyone to obey the law and to rather make use of fireworks out of town,” she concluded. The protest started at the Municipality and animal lovers, along with their dogs, marched along a pre-determined route through town. The spokesperson for the Walvis Bay Municipality, Mr Kevin Adams earlier warned against the use of fireworks for recreational purposes over the festive period. Fireworks are prohibited in urban areas. Permission to set off fireworks in urban areas can only be approved by the Office of the Regional Commander of the Namibian Police
in Erongo to licensed operators. Fireworks not only pose a danger to pets, he ex-plained, but can seriously injure children, set buildings alight or cause damage to vehicles.

After Retrenchment you can get back on track again Liesl Losper Elizabeth Andreas, who was retrenched in 2012, made headlines in Kuisebmond when 70 pre-schoolers of the Faith Education Center graduated under her tutorship. Frieda Niilenge, founder of Faith Education Centre, met Elizabeth during her retrenchment period. She offered her a position as a teacher at the after-school centre. “People did not want to enrol their kids, because they thought a factory worker is not good enough to teach their kids. She started out with only five kids in a sitting room, who started receiving best awards at their respec-
tive schools, and now the number grew to 75 with people flocking to the center. They believed that a factory worker cannot teach their children. I let her work with the only five children that were enrolled. Soon, they started doing well and other parents came running to the place, Frieda said. She surprised people on Saturday, as she graduated with a teaching certificate. Elizabeth now teaches over 70

children at Faith Education Center. She teaches children from all schools in Walvis Bay from Grades1-9. She also started having holiday classes for those kids coming from rural areas, with no knowledge of English and Afrikaans. They go back, knowing how to speak these languages. Learners are improving from E-to A grades. She later enrolled herself for teacher's training at the Rotary club program and now also graduated from Perivolli teachers training. She is encouraging other people to not sit home after retrenchment, because everybody have a gift. Her plan is to help others with her skills of teaching children, especially the art of phonics, which she says is a great challenge. She says some teachers and parents have no idea that phonics is important in learning children how to read properly as they rather concentrate on the names of the alphabet letters, than teaching the kids how to sound.

Let's join hands to fight corruption- Amadhila Sharlien Tjambari The community of Swakopmund, officials from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Erongo Regional Officers, and invited guests gathered at the Swakopmund Municipality to commemorate International Anti-Corruption Day, which is annually held on 9 December. The Day was set following the adaptation of the United Nations Convention against corruption by the United Nations General Assembly in its resolution 58/4 of 31 October 2003. The convention was
opened for signature in Merida, Mexico from 9-11 December 2003 and thereafter until 9 December 2005 at United Nations Headquarters, said Mr Paulus Noa, the Director General of the AntiCorruption Commis-
sion. According to Prime Minister Saara KuugongelwaAmadhila, the convention is the first legally binding international Anti-Corruption instrument that provide a unique opportunity to mount a global re-

sponse to corruption. She said corruption affects all countries around the world, it undermines democracy, creates unstable government and sets countries back economically. She also said corruption comes in different forms namely bribery, failure to deal with violation of laws in a fair manner or silencing whistle blowers. Amadhila emphasised that, fighting corruption is indeed the duty of all of us, private citizens, politicians and public servants, and should therefore be fought by all of us. Just like the state introduces laws and control measure to reduce the likelihood of corrupt actions, so much private busi-
nesses prevent their staff and agents from participating in corruption by improving the transparency of financial reporting, by strengthening accounting and auditing standards and by monitoring internal control and risk management frameworks. She further said that the best key to fighting corruption is prevention, “therefore raising awareness and affective implementation of preventative measures can help address the risks of corruption at the root before the crime is committed, before assets are stolen, before public funds are misused and before bribery and other forms of corrupt practices are committed,” said Amadhila.
According to her the Anti-Corruption strategies should include the following namely the government, civil society and religious institutions have to encourage moral education and strengthen the ethical principles, secondly we must f o rg e a h e a d w i t h financial inclusion to reduce the prevalence of informal or underground economist, thirdly, people should be encouraged to report corrupt practices to the authority, lastly, we must use smart technology such as online internet platform to encourage more of an arm length relationship between the government, the public and businesses. Amadhila urges all Namibians to retain
and strengthen their integrity and exhibit zero tolerance for corruption. “I call upon all of us to become a trusted partner, bringing about the change that will help us overcome our historical and structural legacies and realise our maximum economic potential, let us work together in the interest of good business and good governance”.

Deutsches Haus appreciates the hard work of Traffic officers Sharlien Tjambari Annually the owner of Hotel Deutsches Haus Swakopmund invites the Traffic officers for a seasonal lunch to say “thank you” for the hard work that the Traffic officers have done throughout the year. “We are so grateful to owner of Hotel Deutsches Haus because he is the only one in this town with such a gesture” said the Chief Traffic Officer, Melvin Cloete. Unfortunately not all the members of the Swakopmund Traffic department could join or be at the lunch because they had to attend to other important matters and keep the town safe.

Drivers Warned to be Extra Careful Mavourlene !Gaёs on the Roads The Namibian Police (NamPol) are urging drivers travelling from Windhoek to the coast especially between Swakopmund and Arandis to drive cautiously. The warning follows after the police apprehended a 26-year-old Zimbabwean National on Friday morning, after it was discovered he had allegedly placed stones on the road between Swakopmund and Arandis that seriously injured a driver who was transporting newspapers from Windhoek. According to NamPol Detective Chief Inspector, Erastus Iikuyu, the incident is alleged to have taken place during the early hours of Friday morning about 7 kilometres on the main road between the two towns. “It is alleged that the suspect who is believed to be mentally unstable put stones on the road to block traffic. A certain driver vehicle (Quantum) who was transporting newspapers from Windhoek approached the area and when he saw the stones on the road, he slowed the vehicle down upon which the suspect saw, picked up a stone and threw it at the vehicle’s windscreen.” Iikuyu added that that the stone caused damage not only to the windscreen but, also to the driver who was not travelling alone after it went through the wind screen and hit the driver on his forehead. “The driver, apart from sustaining injuries to his forehead, also broke his upper right jaw and lost three teeth. The passenger who was with him in the quantum did not sustain any injuries.” He further said the driver was taken to the Swakopmund hospital before he was transferred to Windhoek where he is currently receiving further treatment. According to Iikuyu the suspect was arrested at the scene and charged with malicious damage to property and assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm. “A driver of a red Corolla sedan is also alleged to have lost control of the vehicle after he drove over the same stones that were left in the road by the suspect.” He added that although the vehicle went off the road, the six occupants that were in the vehicle (including the driver) did not sustain any injuries.

Hengelaars presteer in Jeffreysbaai

First ever Christmas Cup Pool Competition Sharlien Tjambari
The Swakopmund Pool Club Players
The Swakopmund Pool Club (SPC) will be hosting the first ever Christmas Cup Pool Competition on 19 December. The competition will take place at 30 Something Lounge in Tamariskia. There will be four pool tables which can accommodate 16 teams or more. The Swakopmund Pool Club want to use the Christmas Cup as their trademark and it will become an annual event said William Eimann, the Secretary of Swakopmund Pool Club. “I would like to officially announce and invite all other pool clubs in Namibia, all holiday makers, visitors and the Swakopmund community to help us build this trademark and to make it ours” said William. According to William the competition is well planned and it will have a Christmas atmosphere. The prizes for the competition are sponsored by Namibia Breweries and Cymot. William said SPC really appreciate what all businesses, Nongovernmental Organisations and Swak-opmunders in general did for them in the past. Some of the biggest achievements of the Swakopmund Pool Club is being part of Project Shine, a town cleaning campaign which is run by the Swakopmund Municipality. SPC have also been giving food to some soup kitchens in DRC as a form of giving back to the community. In the past eight months, SPC have played five games in total and have won three of those games. According to William, they have also hosted teams from Rundu and Rehoboth. The winner of the competition will walk away with a Christmas Cup, 6 glass gold medals, N$1 000 cash, three cases of beer sponsored by Namibia Breweries and an HD Pump Compressor sponsored by Cymot. There are great prizes for the teams that wins second, third and fourth place.
