Floris Steenkamp The port of Walvis Bay will soon host a very special floating visitor: the super yacht Voyager which underwent a four year transformation from an offshore oil industry work boat to a floating luxury resort. The vessel was commissioned in 1997 as a work boat for the offshore oil industry. In 2003 the vessel’s name changed to Hos Trader and she continued to work as a n offshore supply ship. In January 2015 work began to transform (pictured above (also see picture on page 2)) the vessel into a super yacht that can undertake long offshore expeditions. Specifically to serve as a platform for deep sea exploration. The work included the redesign of her super structure and lengthening of the hull to 91,4 meters. A bathing platform and helicopter deck were added. The five-deck ship has guest rooms where no details were spared for luxury. The crew quarters can house a crew of up to 70 people. Other key features include multiple galleys from which passengers are served exquisite meals, pantries, media rooms and a deep-sea dive centre. After nearly five years of work, the yacht was finally ready to take it to the world’s oceans. Voyager Maritime Alliance Group (VMAG) conducted the work. VMAG takes pride in the fact that the Voyager project represents the biggest ever conversion from offshore supply vessel to super yacht in the history of ship building in the United States of America. The vessel is a true floating masterpiece and prospective passengers aboard can look forward to an excellent experience from the moment they board. ·The vessel’s call to the port of Walvis Bay is to take in new supplies.
