Fishing industry urged to take investment in sector seriously Liesl Losper Fisheries minister Bernhardt Esau made a renewed call on fishing companies to invest in the upgrading of fish processing facilities, vessels and other fishing assets to ensure safety of crews and to enhance production. The minister made this statement on Friday at the renaming of the horse mackerel fishing vessel Sunfish II to Carapau I. During the renaming ceremony he commended Carapau Fishing for investing in the fishing sector, instead of relying on other stakeholders for vessels to work the company's quota. “It is a known fact that in fishing business inefficiencies can cost fishing operators dearly and the move by Carapau Fishing in acquiring a new vessel is a good indication of promoting efficiencies
which can translate into increased catching capacity and attain good quality”, the Minister said. Carapau Fishing was established in 2014 by Atlantic Sea Products, Diaz Fishing, Namsov Fishing Enterprises and Spoto Fishing, with each of these fishing companies having an equal share of 25% Carapau Fishing purchased Sunfish II from Namsov Fishing Enterprise on a five year payback plan. According to Esau Carapau's purchase of the vessel is a statement of the company's loyalty
towards the acquisition of assets in the fishing sector and a commitment to catch the quota allocated to itself, instead of relying on other fishing entities for vessels. “The effort to invest in this particular fishing vessel carries many meanings. Most importantly it is also testimony to the dedication of Carapau Fishing and its business associates. It contributes towards workers satisfaction and greater productivity in operations. Carapau spent a total of N$120 million on the Carapau I. This
