Family attacked in their home as husband was on Neighbourhood Watch Sharlien Tjambari A woman was held at gunpoint and stabbed in the leg during an attack in her home in Mondesa in Swakopmund over the weekend. The attack formed part of a spate of eleven housebreakings that were recorded in Mondesa on Friday and Saturday. What aggravates the matter is the fact the victim's husband is a member of the Swakopmund Community Against Crime (SCAC) and was taking part in anti-crime patrols with the Namibian Police when his wife was attacked in their home. This SCACH member's identity is withheld on account of the protection of his family. He explai-

ned he received a frantic call from his wife at exactly 01:50 on Saturday informing him that there was someone in their house. He rushed home. "As I arrived at my home, I saw a man leaving my house. When he saw me he pointed a pistol to me. I could see how he squeezed the trigger, but miraculously the gun did not fire. The man started running and I gave chase, but he managed to escape", it was explained. When he entered his

home, he found his wife's cell phone and their television was missing. According to him, his daughter fell asleep in the living room after watching television. The intruders broke open a gate in the back yard. She was woken by the noise and went to her mother to inform her there was someone on their property. "Everything happened so fast", the wife told namib times this week. She was busy making a

Haufiku admitted yesterday much still has to be done to enhance the service delivery capacity of his Ministry in the Erongo Region. Dozens of patients are transported almost daily by bus from towns in the Erongo Region to Windhoek for doctors appointments. Mostly for minor medical conditions simply because the regional capacity for state medical care in Erongo is not developed to its full potential. Dr Haufiku made these remarks this week in Swakopmund when he briefed health staff at the Ministry of Health and Social Service's headquarters. "Everyday, busses transfer patients to

Windhoek. Many of the cases are very small cases, which means capacity at the district level is not yet strong", explained Dr Haufiku. Dr Haufiku stressed the importance of medical outreach and

said more will be done to increase outreach to Erongo. "Medical outreach is very important, as it provides an opportunity for medical staff to learn from the experienced doctors". Continues on Page 2
