Medical emergency fraternity remembers Alfred Ward one year after tragic plane crash Erwin Leuschner 20 individuals from the emergency medical fraternity in Swakopmund gathered at the gravesite of the former E-Med paramedic Alfred John Ward at the Swakopmund cemetery on Tuesday, to mark approximately one year to the day he died in a plane crash at Cape Town during a medical emergency flight. Ward, the two pilots of the plane, an 80 year old patient and his daughter died when their plane went down on 16 August 2015 at Maastricht wine farm near Cape Town whilst on final approach for Cape Town International Airport. “What you guys do on a daily basis is not just a job. It is a calling and you have all been selected to save lives,” said Johnny Beukes, reverend at the Evangelical Mission Church, during the gathering on Tuesday. He reminded paramedics their profession is not always easy. “We have gathered here to remember a former colleague. His time had come, but your time is not yet here and you are still needed. You don't get a lot of people that run into the house, when everybody else runs out,” he said. The 24-year-old Ward accompanied on the illfated plane the gravely ill Gabriel le Roux (80) from Oranejmund, his daughter Charmaine Koortzen (49) and pilots Steven Naude (53) and Amoré Espag (23). There were no survivors.
The Chief Executive Officer of Erongo RED, Mr Robert Kahimise, has been shortlisted as candidate for the post of City of Windhoek CEO, along with applicants Riaan Burger (Namdeb), Tega Shiimi ya Shiiimi (Sanlam Namibia) and Kenandai Tjivikua (former Social Security Commission chief executive). An expert panel assessed the high level applications in recent weeks and shortlisted the above individuals, followed by a recommendation to the City Council of City of Windhoek. Media reports stated this week Burger has been recommended by the panel as the next City of Windhoek boss, but the Windhoek City Council is yet to consider the recommendation.
