Milk price increase......
Continued from page 1 drought has caused large-scale losses in terms of maize harvests in South Africa, resulting in a shortage and a huge increase in feeding costs over the last 12 months. As the total production expense basket of the dairy producers increased with about 28 per cent during the past year, there will most probably be an increase in the price of all dairy products in order to ensure the survival of local producers. “This is of special importance as feeding costs make up the largest part of the total production cost for dairy producers. According to the dairy production cost index of the Namibia Agricultural Union (NAU), the cost of feeding increased with nearly 50 per cent over the past year, which has a big impact on the profitability on farm level,” according to the NAU in its newsletter issued last week Friday. Internationally however, there is still a surplus of milk on the market, especially in Europe and amongst that which is exported to the African market. This causes additional competition and increases the pressure on local producers and processors, according to the NAU. The union also warned about the weakening of the South African Rand and consequently the Namibian Dollar, which ultimately means the local dairy supplier also faces challenges in terms of an increase in the prices of imported inputs in production. “The drought and exchange rate lead to double taffy for the intensive industries in Namibia,” it said in the newsletter. However, even with the short to medium term challenges experienced in the industry, producers are still positive and growth can still be brought about by good cooperation between the producers and Namibia Dairies as the biggest partner.

A large crowd attended the meeting the meeting in DRC was well attended compared to the first one they had at Meduletu hall in Mondesa. All the elected councillors were present as well as members of the Swakopmund Municipality. The acting Chief Executive Officer of the Swakopmund Municipality, Marco Swarts said there are a lot of shortcomings in Namibia and in the region and also said the situation of poverty affects many people and should therefore be addressed. During the meeting the community members were asked to share their view and opinions on what they feel DRC need or what they want the council to do for them. Very strong points were raised by different people, one of the request by the community of DRC was that they wish that the council would build a school in DRC, even if it is a primary school only because the weather get unbearable sometimes and the small children have to wake up in the early hours of the morning to walk to school in the other suburbs, and there are others who walk very far to attend classes. Another disturbing issue raised by the members of the community was the issue of too many sheebeens/bars in the DRC informal settlement. The people claim that the shebeens are many and uncontrollable and it is where most of the crimes take place. The community asked for the council to do something about the shebeens as they also affect the education of the children. Other request from the council by the community of DRC were in terms of services as they need a police station, a fire truck and permanent fire fighters who will reside in DRC. The members, especially the male population feel that the DRC clinic is a clinic only for pregnant women and they feel left out so they requested for a proper and big clinic which will cater for the need of all the people in DRC. Recreational facilities, pre-paid electricity and toilets were also on request. A man also stood up and asked a question on the servicing of roads in DRC, “are the roads in town special or why do they get so much attention? Why are the roads leading to DRC not serviced or tarred?” asked the man. The men also said that every new council elected always claim that they will do what is expected of them but at the end of the day they never deliver. The community members feel that the council must work hard to meet the demands of the people. Closing the meeting on behalf of the council, councillor Erkki Shitana said the council will try their best to meet the demands of the people. “We do not want to promise anything because we do not want to disappoint you that is why we say we will try and meet your demands,” said Shitana. Another meeting will take place on Sunday at the municipal council chambers at 16:00.

NUNW S G held press conference without blessing of his bosses Sharlien Tjambari
On Monday, 15 February, the Secretary General of the National Union of Namibian Workers(NUNW), Job Muniaro called a press conference which the president of the federation describes as unconstitutional because the right procedures were not followed. According to the President of NUNW Ismael Kasuto, he and his deputies were not consulted about the press conference and knew nothing about the event. The NUNW constitution clearly states that the president is the one responsible for issuing all official statements of the federation in consultation with the secretary general and the vice presidents and it also states that the secretary general shall issue official statements of the federation in conjunction with the president and vice presidents. According to the documents issued by Muniaro, the press conference was held to air their dissatisfaction on decisions taken that concern workers’ interest and benefits. During the conference, Muniaro claimed that the government will soon introduce solidarity tax and the workers’ leadership has never been consulted. Muniaro argued if the government introduce solidarity tax, companies will be forced to shut down because workers’ will pay more tax and therefore will demand more salary from employers. Muniaro also blamed the government for wanting to ease the wage bill by getting the young people out of jobs and save the elders that are above 50-55 in politics. During the conference Muniaro also shared with the media that there are people who are busy to passively sell Etosha Game Park and the last point on his agenda was the ownership of mines, claiming that people should not allow foreign companies to tender 100% on their own without compelling them to tender with SME's in Namibia. Muniaro blames the government for not consulting workers, yet the workers’ federation don't follow its constitution and do not consult its structures. The namib times called Muniaro several
times but was unable to get hold of him. The NUNW office finally confirmed that Muniaro had left the country on Monday after the press conference, but NUNW President Kasuto was also unaware of his trip. According to an inside source at NUNW, Muniaro always take leave and goes on trips but there is however no records showing he has taken leave. Question is, who pays for Muniaro's travelling expenses? Is it not the workers’ tax money that takes care of the civil servants? Are the workers ready to continue the season with so much going on within the federation?

Erongo Regional Council determined to deliver services with limited budget The Erongo Regional Council is determined to develop the region, especially the rural areas, despite limited funds in its coffers over the past two years. The council's chairperson Hafeni Ndemula and Chief Regional Officer Natalia /Goagoses on Wednesday promised that the council will do its best to generate its own income, upgrade settlements and deliver adequate services to people in the rural areas. “The fact that we do not receive enough money from central Government will not be an excuse for us not to work and bring about developmental change. We will ensure that we do our best despite the situation,” /Goagoses said. She said during the first ordinary council meeting for 2016, that council is expecting to make a profit from water charges this year, as all worn-out water infrastructure in settlements in the region have been repaired at a cost of N$5 million. On his part, Ndemula noted that the total expenditure for the 2015/16 financial year is close to N$40 million, but they only received N$45 million for their operational budget from Government. The council also received N$45 million the pre-
vious financial year. “People think it is easy and things are going well in Erongo, but that is just the perception. The truth is that we are struggling to achieve our mandate of service delivery,” said Ndemula. He repeated his call to Government for more funds to the regional council. The chairperson further welcomed the new regional councillors, urging the councillors and other staff members to work in unison in order to change the region for the better. “Let us be honourable with action, not just honourable,” he said. Funds will be channeled towards rural employment schemes; food/cash for work programmes; personnel expenditure; and the construction of a traditional authority office in Omatjete. Other funds will go towards sewerage network ponds and other services such as the provision of roads in settlements. (Nampa)

Truck got stuck as main water line ruptures An incident in Swakopmund’s Vrede Rede Street now leaves the ancient question. Which was first - the chicken or the egg? A delivery truck drove along Vrede Rede Street when at around 14:00 the vehicle became stuck in a watery hole which was likely caused by a ruptured main water supply pipeline. The question on everyone’s lips now are: is it the sheer weight of the truck that caused the pipe to finally succumb to the extreme water pressure or was the driver to the second on the wrong place at the wrong time, driving over the pipe the second it ruptured.

Mass Housing meeting heats up over unpaid bills to sub-contractors Sharlien Tjambari Money still owed to them was the main bone of contention on Monday between sub-contractors and construction company Power Oyeno Construction Company. Power Oyeno was awarded an N$800 million construction tender for mass housing in Swakopmund in 2014 for 2034 low cost houses. By the time the minister of Urban and Rural Development suspended the project last year, Power Oyeno and its sub contractors managed to construct 883 units, of which only 76 were completed. When the Mass Housing Project was suspended, sub contractors were without work and no payments were received. Outstanding payments by the National Housing Enterprise to Oyeno dried up instantly, and subsequently subcontractors were also not paid to the full. At the meeting on Monday Power Oyeno announced it has signed a new construction contract on 8 February, and this time the customer is not National Housing Enteprise but the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development, under leadership of Minister Sophia Shaningwa. Informing subcontractors of these latest developments were Power Oyeno's Paolo Shipoke and the construction company's chief operating officer, Andre September. On the face of things the information should have been welcomed by subcontractors, but the meeting heated up promptly with subcontractors more interested in when and where they will be paid the monies in arrears before embarking on a new construction venture with Power Oyeno. Sub-contractors felt there were too many loose ends that have not been tied since a similar meeting in March last year. People shared experiences of their hardships they suffered by not being paid. Others told of the gross inconveniences they had by relocating from elsewhere in Namibia to work on the mass housing project, only for it to grind to a halt and the money well, with which they have to look after families, drying up .
Shipoke however, said there is nothing Power Oyeno can do in terms of loss of income and advised the sub-contractors to lay their complains with the government. “Maybe they will listen to you and the problems you are facing. If Power Oyeno complains and demands for refunds for loss of income, they will think we just want money” said Shipoke. According to September the new agreement with Urban and
Rural Development cancelled the old agreement with NHE. Fundamentally there is a difference between the old contract which made provision for payment per square meter. The new agreement with Urban and Rural Development is quantified per item completed. September explained the terms of the new contract is for a period of 15 months during which the project must be finalised, both uncompleted work on existing dwellings and
those still to be constructed. Quantity Surveyor Richards Frankle & Partners Quantity Surveyors will determine the value of uncomplete work versus what is still to be done. Only then the Mass Housing Project can proceed.

Ravaged oil industry has ripple effect on Walvis Bay’s marine industrial sector Although several stakeholders in Walvis Bay’s marine industrial sector denied this week rumours of mass retrenchments, the declining oil industry worldwide is also becoming a rapid concern for Walvis Bay. The harbour town is positioned as a ship repair and marine industrial hub for the offshore oil industry of West Africa, specifically Angola which is among the world’s largest oil producers. With oil prices at an unprecedented low and little prospects of it returning to profitable levels any time soon, the offshore oil industry too cuts down on its operations. This means less supply boats and tugs sent to Walvis Bay for repairs and maintenance and a reciprocal decline in business prospects for the local ship repair and marine industrial sector.

Large job creation in marine phosphate mining unlikely The supporters of phosphate mining are saying that they will create a large number of direct and indirect jobs. Perhaps they will share with Namibia what the profile of the jobs is and what level of education is required. Are people with the required levels of proficiency available in Namibia, or are we going to export the jobs?
The above opinion is that of the Chairman of the Confederation of Namibian Fishing Industries, Mr Matti Amukwa who today states his case against marine phosphate mining in the last of a series of three articles. Mr Amukwa continues: “Our understanding is that the proposed mining process encompasses deep sea dredging in 150 to around 300 meters depth. The skills and equipment to carry out this function, lie in the hands of two large international dredging specialists! The operators will crew their highly specialised and ex.pensive vessels with their own
people, and at best perhaps the steward and galley hand will be Namibian! The process of separating the phosphate from the large amount of material brought ashore by the dredger, will most likely require a large mechanical plant capable of handling a substantial volume of material per hour, and will probably not require that much manual labour. We then come to the potential phosphate plant, which is a highly sophisticated chemical and industrial plant dealing with corrosive materials such as sulphuric and phosphoric acid in a continuous process. Here again the number of employ-
ees should be limited, and the control of the plant will be in the hands of qualified and experienced chemical engineers who are probably brought in from overseas. When promising the creation of a large number of jobs, perhaps the proposed investors owe it to Namibians to play open cards and be more specific as to the type of employment and the levels of proficiency that are required when promising jobs. It does nothing for the country to promise jobs, be granted the right by government to proceed with an investmen t, an d th en export the jobs! The proposed in-
vestments in mining are substantial if they are allowed, but let us not forget that the fishing industry has made continuous investments in the industry since independence! Prior to independence the local fishing industry was primarily focused on pilchard canning, and hake and horse mackerel were caught by foreigners. This situation changed at independence and the various sectors of the Namibian fishing industry, as we know them today established themselves. This required a vast amount of capital invested in factories and infrastructure, which were created by local builders and construction companies. Until today, companies are investing to bring
their facilities up to the latest standards and a large new processing factory is in the planning stages. Perhaps it is interesting to look at what Namibians stand to benefit from the proposed phosphate mining, compared to the fishing industry. It is our understanding that between 15% 24% of the shares in the phosphate mining companies will be held by a selected group of Namibians. In contrast the Namibian law states that fishing rights, and therefore quotas, may only be granted to Namibian citizens or companies which are more than 51% Namibian controlled. Recent changes in the Marine Resources Act of 2000 allow the Honourable Minister to spread the quota

Long time Walvis Bay resident Máximo Pires dies in Portugal A long time resident of Walvis Bay, Máximo Pires, passed away peacefully at his home town of Faro in Portugal on Tuesday, 2 February, three months short of his 91st birthday. After leaving Portugal in the mid 1950’s, Máximo lived for a time in the then Belgian Congo before moving to Angola for a few years. He, his late wife, Tita, and children, Luis and Lena, arrived in Walvis Bay in the early 1960's. He worked as a marine engineer in the Walvis Bay fishing fleet up until his retirement in 2000 at the age of 75. Máximo was an active and well known member of the Walvis Bay Portuguese community, but treasured deeply the diversity of Walvis Bay and its people. He is survived by his children, daughter-in-law, Joy, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

rights to a wider group of Namibians, thereby empowering even more people. A sharp contrast to the mining situation. I mentioned at the beginning, the fishing industry is not against sea mining per se. We have a fishing industry which makes an important contribution to employment, and the economic development of Namibia. On the other hand we have the promotors of phosphate mining who are pushing to enter the mining industry, and who are supporting their push to get started with projections whose assumptions have not been tested. Let us take the time to do proper research to ensure that mining does not have a negative impact on the ma-
rine environment. If research shows that mining and fishing can coexist, then let the legislator prepare the relevant laws and regulation to ensure that stable and controlled mining is possible. If we rush into sea mining because of the mining promotor's impatience, and mining then negatively impacts on the fishery, Namibia will be the looser. The mining will not make up for the job losses experienced in the fisheries. Even if the phosphate resources in our waters last for 600 years, mining is finite. Man was fishing when Christ first came on the earth, and will be sustainable fishing in 1000 years from today if he controls the levels of fish exploitation from the sea.

Warning on gang’s activity I want to bring to the attention of the coastal community about a gang operating here. This similar pattern happened to me twice this week. I placed advertisement in namib times about the houses I am selling. I received many phone calls and among these calls, a very convincing caller impersonating a German accent and another caller impersonating an Angolan accent . The Angolan caller says he has a lot of cash and wants to buy my house urgently and he is coming from Windhoek to the coast with his cash. We agree an appointed time to view the house. Shortly before viewing, the man calls back saying that he is now in Okahandja and has a friend who is passing and has to go to another town and he is giving an envelope containing his documents to buy my house and the man will call me. The man calls saying that he needs few thousands and has to go to another town urgently. The supposed buyer to my house calls that I must give him the money and when he arrives to view my house, he will just deduct the amount. I became suspicious and told the man not to call me again. The caller with a German accent does not turn up on appointed time but calls to say that he is in Brandberg and that his wife who has a precious stone business will come to me with an envelope containing precious stones and that I must give her N$8,000.00 in cash and I will deduct this when he buys my house. I became suspicious and told him that i do not trust him. The same pattern happened to my sister when she placed an advertisement to rent her flat. This is just to warn the public who are advertising their properties in the newspaper to be aware of these scams. ANONYMOUS.
Motorists want trucks to permanently get off the coastal road Madelaine Laubscher
During the festive season the Roads Authority ordered truck drivers to use the road behind the dunes to reduce traffic loads between Walvis Bay and Swakopmund. Motorists feel now this arrangement should continue on a permanent basis. “Can somebody explain why heavy trucks are still permitted on the B2 Road between Walvis Bay and Swakopmund? Not only is this affecting road safety with the number of trucks driving on this road, but it is unacceptable that the elderly in a certain old age home in Swakopmund are being subjected to this type of unprecedented noise pollution when the trucks continually pass the old age home. The road behind the dunes is in a perfect condition and without any question conducive to this type of traffic. There is no plausible reason whatsoever for trucks to pass through Swakopmund at all. The Roads Authority has passed a golden opportunity to divert trucks during the festive season onto the road behind the dunes and that directive should have stayed in force. Motorists commuting between Walvis Bay and Swakopmund every day will confirm that nearly every third or fourth vehicle is an extra heavy super link putting their lives in danger,” a complainant said. Another source added that “the Municipal Traffic must please do
something about the total disregard of stop signs by motorists, especially taxies, and also the use of mobile phones while driving.” The Chief Traffic Officer, Eben Platt, said “we are trying our best to have Roads Authority set a permanent rule for trucks to use the road behind the dunes. It is not easy, but we will continue trying to make it happen. This also means that the road behind the dunes will have to be upgraded. We will find out how far along the plans are regarding the upgrade. We are aware that the trucks on the B2 Road are a problem and we ask the community to bear with us while we try our best to get the Roads Authority to implement this,” he said. He added that the traffic officers are also aware of the total disregard of motorists ignoring stop signs in the Erongo Region. “The attitude of motorists when it comes to stop signs is mind-boggling. We are also aware of motorists passing other vehicles on solid lines. We will put in extra effort in bringing these culprits to justice. There are just too many road fatalities due to reckless and negligent driving,” he concluded.

Soek hulp by ‘n ondersteuningsgroep.

Jou tandvleis se gesondheid gaan bepaal of jy ‘n gesonde
persoon is.

Hoe kan my tandarts help? Jou tandarts is jou maat.

Beauty and the Beach - Hair and Skin on the Beach Emmy Stoltz is the founder of Spa Fusion, and the conceptual designer of the Atlantic Spa in the new Strand Hotel Swakopmund. Emmy has managed various spas including the Hilton, Hyatt, Sheraton and Sabi Sabi and brought the Mount Grace spa to world class acclaim. As owner of Spa Fusion, she was also a recent winner of the S p a Vi s i o n a r y Award and a member of the South African Spa Association. We asked Emmy for some tips on caring for hair and skin while spending the day on the beach. Summer sun and the beach in Swakopmund are loved because they provide us with the opportunity to spend more time outdoors. However, the time in the sun comes at a
price and it is your skin and hair that pays that price. We have put together a few tips and tricks to take care of your skin and hair during your summer holidays spent on the beach: BE SUN WISE! - Sun damage can lead to premature aging of the skin, wrinkles, marks, dry skin, and even skin cancer over time. Contrary to popular belief, tanning is not safe for the skin and may cause serious damage! Sun damage can easily add 20 years to your age by dehydrating and wrinkling your skin. - Calculate how frequently to apply your sunscreen by multiplying its SPF with 20.
So an SPF of 10 should stay on for about 200 minutes or around 3 hours, however it must always be reapplied when swimming or sweating! - Consider a water proof sun block with a suitable SPF factor. Don't stay out in the sun for long periods of time around the hottest hours 10 am – 3pm. - Always remember to protect your eyes and never forget to wear UV protected sunglasses and a hat to the beach! - Waterproof makeup and lip gloss with SPF can be very effective in preventing dried sunburned lips & can be used to keep you looking fabulous! - Perfume is not ideal for the beach – many perfumes interact with the sun and can cause permanent
pigmentation in the area where it was applied! Rather sprits your clothes than your skin. STAY HYDRATED - While on the beach you can spirts your skin with spring water to calm the skin, cool you down and offer hydration. - Drink lots of water while on the beach as well as afterwards to continuously hydrate your skin and body. Strand Hotel Swakopmund offers water in your Mini Bar, the Cafe Mole and all our Restaurants. - To keep your hair hydrated, consider applying a leave-in conditioner (with SPF) during your time on the beach, thus also protecting your hair from the harsh UV rays and salty breeze. - To keep your skin hydrated and elastic, consider a Sea Salt Scrub followed by a Shea Butter Wrap infused with indigenous African ingredients to deeply moisturise and protect. The Atlantic Spa at Strand Hotel Swakopmund offers a variety of products for you to stay protected at all times. TAKE ADVANTAGE Take advantage of your beach time in Swakopmund and walk barefoot in the cool wet sand at the water's edge – rub your feet in the sand to benefit from the sands natural exfoliating properties. And then, why not enjoy the sundowner with a glass of wine and fresh oysters at the Ocean Cellar at Strand Hotel Swakopmund.

Glasses give children new momentum Liesl Losper Faith Education Center owner, Taati Niilenge visits her classrooms regularly. Recently she noticed that some of the learners have difficulty focusing on the blackboard or reading from their books. Teachers also informed her in the past of some learners suffering from headaches. Niilenge decided to have some of the children's eyes tested. “I contacted optometrists in Walvis Bay, telling them I have reasons to believe some children have eye problems. One of the optometrists that responded was Optics Exclusive.
Optometrist Mariska promptly responded to my e-mail and agreed to test the eleven children we have identified. Six of the eleven children had eye problems, while the others had allergy problems. The children received their glasses within a week. We can happily state they are reading without any difficulty,” said Niilenge, adding
parents had no idea that the children were experiencing difficulties with their vision. They expressed their gratitude towards Optic Exclusive for this great gift. Niilenge urge other companies to open their hearts to help the children of Walvis Bay like Optometrist Mariska. “We usually preach that children are our future, but little do we realise
A new life with spectacles what difference eyesight makes towards our children's future.” These children who received glasses came to the centre with low pass grades. We could see
immediate improvement. They need support to motivate them further towards their bright future. There are over seventy children at the centre.
Who knows how many more children are unknowingly sitting there with eye problems? We really comment Miss Mariska for her
open heart. Our prayer is for God to bless her business and for her life to flourish in Walvis Bay,” Niilenge said to the namib times.

Er basiert auf Bill Emmotts Buch Good Italy, Bad Italy: Why Italy Needs To Conquer Its Demons to Face The Future.
Teeladen TeaTime anschauen.

Locker vom Hocker Wir Asperger!
Ford Ranger, Kuga Remain Car Magazine's Best Buys for 2016 The Ford Ranger and Kuga have retained their status as two of Car Magazine's Top 12 Best Buys for 2016, having been announced as winners in their respective categories at an industry awards dinner held in Melrose Arch, Johannesburg. The 16th running of the annual Car Top 12 Best Buys saw the locally built Ford Ranger claim its fifth consecutive 'Best Double Cab Bakkie' title. "For an unprecedented fifth year in a row, Ford's venerable
Ranger is the best double cab in South Africa," Car Editor Steve Smith stated at the awards. The generous size of the Ranger's cabin, high specification level, refinement and ride comfort, as well as the rugged looks and
performance were all praised by the Car editorial team. "Overall the Ranger has the widest spread of talents," the judges commented. The Ford Kuga once again topped the extremely competitive Compact SUV/ Cross-
over category for the second year running. "The Kuga remains unbeatable," according to Car. Its price competitiveness, frugal engines, generous standard specification, good performance, overall comfort and handling were identi-
fied as key strengths for the Kuga. "Despite the extremely competitive nature of the industry and the flurry of new model launches throughout last year and into 2016, we are both proud and delighted to see the Ranger and Kuga
scoring repeat victories in their respective classes for Car Magazine's Top 12 Best Buys," said Tracey Delate, General Marketing Manager, Ford Motor Company Sub-Saharan Africa Region. "With the new Ranger we raised the bar even further in terms of sophistication, refinement, performance and technology for the light commercial vehicle segment, and this is
acknowledged both by industry awards and the growing number of customers buying Rangers, with 2015 sales up more than 18% year-onyear. "The Kuga retains its popularity by delivering an unrivalled combination of style, comfort, versatility and performance, matched to superb overall valuefor-money," Delate added.

The Toyota Corolla Quest was recognised for the combination of incredible value for money, peerless reliability and comfort in the compact sedan category, while Toyota's global eco-warrior, the Mirai, was awarded Green Car and Toyota Gazoo Racing SA driver Leeroy Poulter clinched Motorsport Person of the Year. The judging panel consisted of CAR magazine's respected journalists who set aside time to debate over the finalists before casting their votes. This is a thoroughly engaging process, considering that we live in a country that has more than 1000 individual models. th Now in its 17 year, the CAR Top 12 Best Buys - in conjunction with Tracker - continues to recognise the most worthy 12 cars in distinct categories. The awards are geared towards making a difference in the lives of everyday South Africans and recognising the evolving needs and demands of consumers. The Corolla Quest was crowned Best Compact Sedan for the second year in a row, with the judges heaping praise for its pleasurable drive and punchy powertrain. On the face of it, the Quest is truly a value-filled proposition with a starting price of R190 700. It offers best-in-class interior space and power while still offering an excellent range of standard features. The Mirai is the first-ever hydrogen fuelcell car to be offered for sale by a major automaker and is testament to Toyota's innovative prowess as a leading global car manufacturer. A couple of local journalists had the privilege of experiencing the Mirai at an international event last year. The emissions-free Mirai has the cruising range of a conventional saloon and can be refuelled in less than five minutes. Poulter was the only person who clinched an award at an event that was mostly dominated by machines. He needs very little introduction after winning almost every Cross Country race - ultimately winning the 2015 Championship, and coming second in the National Rally Championship. He also represented SA very well in the 2016 Dakar Rally, finishing fifth over-all in his third year. Poulter is the only driver to have participated in all three disciplines in a single year."Being recognised for three distinct awards is an excellent achievement for Toyota as we see ourselves as a multi-disciplinary brand. We are quite pleased to be recognised in categories that acknowledge the strides we are making in producing value-for-money products, green technologies and motorsport," says TSAM General Manager of Communications Kerry Roodt.

Squash Notes Summer League. Wow, what a way to kick off 2016, with 62 entries in the summer league. To cater for everyone it had to be split into six groups. It is so awesome to see so many new faces taking part. It's also great to see quite a few Swakop players back in the event, which adds that little bit more competitiveness. If this is the course squash is going to take this year it is going to be a good year. For anyone else interested in joining Buccaneers Squash Club enquiries can be made via email to info@buccs.com.na or at Jewellery Boutique and Jaydees. You've probably noticed that the scores look a little unusual for squash. This format was introduced last year and worked quite well; basically you have to play non-stop for 20 minutes and score as much as possible. A good way to get rid of those unwanted kilos picked up over the festive season.
Walvis Bay Golf News This Sunday there will be no electricity in town so the club will be closed for the day. The club fund raiser will take place next Saturday and will be in the form of a better ball. The format will be one score on six holes, both scores on another six and a multiplier on the other six. The draw for which is one score, two scores and multiplier will be made after the round, just to keep the interest alive. Entry fee is N$300 per player (or special price N$600 for a team). We will have a few decent items for auction so please bring a bob or two along and please stay after your round, after all it is our fund (fun) raiser and it is all for the club. If you would like to sponsor a prize or an item for auction please contact Shane. The club will be 100 years old next year (Oom Frans told us that he and Oom Jan Lieb can still remember the opening ceremony haha, “hulle vertel dat Oom Pikkie 'n 77 geskiet op die dag”) and we are also busy starting to get a programme together for this event. It will be a biggie but more of this later. Nam Plastics (in that beautiful pink pants in the photo) had it all in their hands yesterday afternoon, but then along came JJ and team and put a spanner in the works. Forca failed to pitch so they regretfully had to concede to the Old Boys. It is all to play for in section three, LSS played Thurs School yesterday and the other two games to be played today. Remember that there are two wild card places for the best of the third places. Currently Nam Plastics looks to be in the pound seats for one of these slots but all will be sorted in section three. Onnies will be in pink today, hope it does not get to you like it did to Nam Plastics, but time will tell.
