Police in riot gear restores calm at Swakop police cells Members of the Namibian Police’s Special Field Force had to use an extend of force at the Swakopmund police station late on Wednesday, to bring a police cell uprising under control. Two large container ships on maiden call to Walvis Bay The Namibian Ports Authority on Saturday welcomed the CMA CGM Nabucco and the Ulsan vessels at its New Container Terminal. The 334m CMA CGM Nabucco and Ulsan 258m are first timers in Namibian waters and recorded a total of 492 and 1000 moves done on each vessel respectively. The CMA CGM Nabucco which is headed to Singapore discharged import cargo and is expected to return to the Port of Walvis Bay early September 2021. The next Port of call for Ulsan is the Port of Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), South Africa. In the past four months ending July 2021, the Ports Authority recorded 265 vessels that docked at the Port of Walvis Bay, versus 239 in the same period in 2020.

inside Public complains Driveover irregular Through sound of the siren Residents of Walvis Bay has questions over the use of the siren at the Civic Centre that signals the lunch hour every day and the Covid-19 curfew at night. It also alerts the fire brigade in the event of fires in the harbour town. Over the past few days the siren at times only sounded ten minutes past one o’clock (it has to sound at 13:00). With regard to the curfew siren, it sometimes only sounds fifteen minutes after 22:00 and some nights the siren does not sound at all. “The authorities need to make a very uncomplicated decision. Use the siren correctly or don’t use it at all”, one resident says.

Robbers leave elderly Henties Bay woman “for dead” in her home An elderly woman of Henties Bay was seriously assaulted and left for dead in her home by unknown attackers on Tuesday night. The thugs broke into the house of Mrs Elrose Liebenberg and apart from brutally assaulting her, they stole a purse and a cell phone. A worker arrived at Mrs Liebenberg’s home on Thursday morning. Two cash-in-transit robbers still on the run Sharlien Tjambari & Eileen van der Schyff The three suspects who allegedly pulled a cash-in-transit heist in Swakopmund a week ago made a first appearance in the Swakopmund magistrate's court on Monday. Lineeekela Haiduwa (27), Gabriel Cornelius Tuhafeni (26) and Kandjimi Tangeni Elifas (23) were charged with robbery with aggravating circumstances.
