Swapo-regional denies Holiday makers and residents Walvis Bay town warned against the growing council reshuffle and alarming phenomena of drink spiking at social outlets

The Swapo Party Regional Coordinator in Erongo, Philipus Heita has denied accusations that he proposed that the new councillors for the Walvis Bay Municipality be reshuffled. Contacted for comment on Thursday, Reinhold Shipwikineni, the Swapo branch coordinator for Okahenge at Wal-vis Bay told Nampa that Heita allegedly suggested that management chairperson, Tobias Nambala, be replaced with ordinary member Penelope Martin because “she is the only coloured on the council where the majority are Aawambo” and should be allowed to be chairperson. “Heita said it in a meeting on 14 December at Walvis Bay. I condemn such a proposal because leaders are not appointed based on tribes,” Shipwikineni told Nampa. Heita on Thursday said he did not say any such thing and asked Shipwikineni to provide evidence. “If he said I mentioned it in the meeting on 14 December then he is revealing party secrets to the media. That meeting was a closed door meeting,” he said. Heita and Shipwikineni could not say what type of meeting it was and what was discussed during the

meeting. A deployment directive from Swapo Secretary-General, Nangolo Mbumba indicates that Martin was supposed to chair the management while Nambala is an alternate member. The Swapo Walvis Urban district executive committee decided that Nambala be chairperson. In Swakopmund, the deployment directive also seen by Nampa stated that former

Legendary Rally Driver’s Son Dies in Motor Accident Mavourlene !Gaёs

A 25-year-old man identified as Lucentio Lopes (pictured above), the son of legendary rally driver Lukas Hipondoka, died in hospital after he was involved in a tragic accident which involved four vehicles. The accident took place on Friday evening on the road between Usakos and Arandis. The accident was confirmed by Nampol

Detective Chief Inspector, Erastus Iikuyu who said the accident took place about 30-35km from Arandis to Usakos. “It is alleged that the truck that was transporting fish, with two occupants on board, was travelling from Arandis towards Usakos when a red Izuzu double cab, (a tow-in vehicle) who was towing a trailer with a small sedan on top approached the truck from the Usakos direction. According to the truck driver, the Izuzu double cab was driving in the wrong lane; it was actually facing the truck.” Iikuyu added that the truck driver tried to avoid a head-collision with the double cab and as a means of avoiding the vehicle he drove towards the left side of the road. “While in the process of trying to avoid a collision, the trailer of the red Izuzu double cab hit the right front wheel of the truck, which resulted in the driver of the truck losing control over the truck and driving onto the wrong lane, facing the oncoming cars and ended up hitting a Toyota Corolla and a Ford Ranger that was driven by Lucentio Lopes, before it overturned.” According to Iikuyu it is further alleged that

Man Dies after being Run over near Fire Station Mavourlene !Gaёs A 68-year-old man who was identified as Fillipus Halenge was allegedly run over and killed near the Mautamane fire station in Sam Nujoma Avenue, Kuisebmond on Thursday evening around 22:00. According to NamPol Detective Chief Inspector, Erastus Iikuyu it is alleged that the deceased, who was an employee of Blaauws Transport, was on his way to Kuisebmond, when the driver who was allegedly chasing the green light hit him. “It appears like the driver of the white Toyota with a Windhoek registration number was driving in Sam Nujoma Street from the east to the western direction towards the robots from the side of Narraville. The deceased was crossing the road at the robots from the southern direction to the northern direction probably on the way to the location.” Iikuyu added that it is believed the driver was driving at a high speed, with the hope of passing the robots while the green light was still on. “The green light subsequently turned red, at which point the vehicle was at high speed and could not be stopped in time which resulted in the driver hitting Halenge who was busy crossing the robots as it was his turn. The deceased died on the spot.” According to Iikuyu the driver, as part of procedure, was tested to see if he had alcohol in his blood. “The results confirmed that the driver was not drunk by the time the accident took place.” A case of culpable homicide has however been opened against the driver and the matter is under investigation.

Unfortunately this angler cannot say the same, after his vehicle ended up in the water at the salt pans, south of Walvis Bay, over the weekend. Considerable damage was caused to the vehicle. This is the second vehicle this holiday to end up in the water. Days ago a luxury offroad vehicle was swept by the waves on the Vineta beach. A glimpse into the world of Walvis Bay car washers

Meat surprise for elderly at K/M Old Age Home

While some have the privilege of bonuses to make the festive period a little more special than the rest of the year, a number of unemployed men in Walvis Bay are washing cars just to get by. The close to 15 men wake up every morning and find their way to the parking area behind Pick 'n Pay supermarket along Theo-Ben Gurirab Street and Nangolo Mbumba Drive where they wash cars every day. The men, most of who dropped out of school, run to every driver in the parking area and ask to wash the car for between N$10 and N$50 – depending on what the car owner is willing to part with in exchange for a clean car. They have to support their unemployed parents in the northern regions such as Omusati and Oshana, where they came from in search of jobs at the harbour town. Here they face the challenge of paying rent for the shacks they sleep in, as well as supporting their children and girlfriends for whom they have to buy food and clothes. Sometimes if they are lucky and they have experience in welding or operating cranes they get temporary jobs. When their contracts end, it is back to the parking area. As the year draws to an end, the need for money becomes even worse as they have to travel back home to spend Christmas and New Year with their families, hence the informal car wash

initiative. They use water from the public toilet in the parking area or sometimes bring their own from the Kuisebmond residential area where they live. They know what they are doing is illegal but it is either this, or go home empty-handed. As soon as they see a police car approach the municipal parking, they disappear behind the nearest wall to avoid detention or a fine of N$300 for operating an illegal business. Their stories are the same as that of the many unemployed, unskilled young Namibians youths who would do anything to make some money. “I get between N$70 and N$150 a day. In a month I might save N$3 000 with which I pay N$700 rent and send N$1 000 to my parents,” the 26-yearold Tangeni Jairus says as he talks about the odd jobs be does to survive. He has been doing this kind of work for three years after dropping out of Grade 9 at Etayi vil-lage in the Omusati Re-gion. “I have a girlfriend and a daughter. Luckily primary school is free. We starve ourselves this time of the year to save money and go back to the village,” he says. Petrus Shapumba, 23, from Iilambo village completed Grade 12, but could not qualify for further studies. He

has been here for one and a half years. Shapumba said sometimes they are picked up to clean houses and offices, or to offload and load goods for business. “We need permanent jobs. Unfortunately people who are in positions of power only give their friends and family jobs,” he says. The 25-year-old Johannes Tiloveta dropped out of Grade 8 at Onandjila village in Omusati. He has been doing the same types of work for three years. Sometimes four days can pass without making a single cent. “The police come and break our buckets. They tell us not to return here but we have no choice,” he says. Approached for comment, Detective Chief Inspector Erastus Iikuyu of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) says he is aware of the situation, but the power lies with the municipality. He said if the police act on illegal businesses in town, it is based on the by-laws of the municipality, and if the municipality asks them to do so. The Walvis Municipality's manager of public relations and customer service, Kevin Adams explains that unregistered businesses are not allowed to operate in the town. “The municipality's business registration regulations stipulate

The truth revealed – fatal Madelaine Laubscher accident There was allegedly a twist in the truth regarding three suspects that were arrested at the scene of a fatal accident in which Ms Kaino Antonius passed away on 5 December near Swakopmund. According to a previous police report, three suspects were arrested at the scene which were reportedly Africa Hinananye Kuhatumwa (36), Amakali Nataniel (34) and Paulus Mbako (32). However, the newspaper was later informed that Mr Mbako is innocent and that there was an error on the police report. An acquantance of Mr Mbako informed us of the error. Nampol Chief Inspector Iikuyu, then confirmed to us that Mr Mbako was indeed not guilty. “It was only learnt later that the third person who was arrested was Silvanus Aser (24) and not Mr Mbako. A misunderstanding ocurred because Aser was being dishonest. He tried to take the blame for driving the vehicle (Mercedes Benz) in which Antonius passed away. He was thus also arrested. However, at the station he admmitted that it was not him, but Kuhatumwa who drove the Mercedes Benz. Mr Mbako is completely innocent,” he concluded. Kuhatumwa, Amakali and Aser appeared in court 7 December and were released on bail.

In my oë was ek glad nie 'n skrywer nie.

Narraville community centre MTC gives road safety a boost with donation completion due June 2016 Sharlien Tjambari MTC donated a consignment of road safety equipment to Nampol'sTraffic Division in Erongo recently, to enable this traffic enforcement arm to conduct its operations effectively during the holiday season.

Liesl Losper The construction of the Narraville community hall whose groundbreaking was in June this year, is well on track. This hall will accommodate 400 people in cinema style seating and 252 people banqueting style. Further amenities are a state of the art kitchen, a serving area, an entrance with an entertainment lobby, an office and general ablution facilities. All amenities will be easily

accessible to disabled people. Ample parking will also be developed around the premises. The builders, NCN Build and Properties have already started with the project in June. Brynard Kotze Architects confirmed to the namib times that completion is scheduled for June 2016.

The materials procured for the Erongo Traffic Police included roadcones, traffic police reflector jackets, road traffic direction signs and high beam torches for use by the officials on night patrols. Joseph Mundjindi, Manager Sponsorship and Promotions at MTC, says that “as we are approaching the holiday season it is a given that our national roads will be congested with travellers and it is thus important that we support the Namibian Traffic Police especially in Erongo to create the visibility and to enhance public aware-

ness on the road for the road safety enforcers.” Mundjindi further said that they (MTC) have keenly been following the disturbing statistics and media reports pertaining to Namibia's road safety record and hence wants to play their part through this kind of strategic intervention and partnership. “It gives us great pleasure to commit our support to the cause of road safety owing to the detriment nature of road carnage, MTC commitment and ideal is to one day see that there are zero fatalities on our roads, hence our pledge to that goal,” said

Mundjindi. Mundjindi further calls on Namibian Corpo-rates to take the pledge and demonstrate posi-tive road behaviour during the upcoming Festive Season. More public infrastructure obliterated by inconsiderate drivers...... This lamppost was destroyed over the weekend in Walvis Bay’s 6th Street, when it was hit by a vehicle. There are several other examples in the coastal towns where careless drivers destroy vital public infrastructure.

A reader reported to namib times yesterday where he escaped a collision at the last second on the intersection of 6th Road and Hage Geingob Street in Walvis Bay yesterday, where a stop sign has been removed, either by vandals or by the coastal weather elements and not yet replaced. The reader says he was supposed to stop, but in his sub-concious drove on, as there was no stop sign. Only when a vehicle came from the side, did he apply brakes and could manage to avert a collision. Residents and visitors of the coastal towns are once more requested to take extra care as road users. The festive seasons means a dramatic increase in road traffic and pedestrians. Speeding, drinking and driving and inconsiderate driving poses more of an accident risk during peak traffic periods.

A water pipe ruptured in Nangolo Mbumba Drive in Walvis Bay on Friday morning, when a mobile crane (background) drove over the pipe and the sheer weight of the vehicle led to the collapse of a section of the pipe. A whirlpool of water escaped from the pipe and under the high water pressure it soon carved out a large hole. The municipality’s water department reacted swiftly and first closed water supply to this pipeline before making the necessary repairs.

Weinachtsmarkt at the Dome Sharlien Tjambari

The Swakopmund Indoor Sports Centre is hosting the first ever Traditional Weihnachtsmarkt. The Mayor of Swakopmund, Pauline Nashilundo officially opened the event last week with the ceremonial cutting of the ribbon. The market kicked off on Friday and ends today. There were about 26 stalls in total, selling all kinds of products including homemade biscuits, handmade clothes, delicious food, the finest ice cream, homemade toys and games and of course, what is any occasion without pancake. Families and friends flocked to The Dome.

Children were all over the place, jumping with joy and enjoying the festivities. They were having the best time of their lives with their parents. The market was decorated with Christmas lights and a Christmas tree was placed in the centre of the market. The vendors had to pay N$1 000 to secure their place at the market, but it was certainly worth every penny.

Believers Fellowship Church brings elderly an early Christmas Sharlien Tjambari Believers Fellowship Church, Swakopmund, brought an early Christmas to the senior citizens of the Welwitschia Phase 2 Government Housing units recently by donating food stuff and many other items to them. The donation is valued at N$7 500. “We believe as a church to take care of the elders, as commanded by God, explained Pastor Nelson Olabanji. Pastor Olabanji further said that old age is a blessing from the Lord and that it should be celebrated.

About 42 elders benefited from the donations. This is the third time that Believers Fellowship Church celebrated Christmas with the elders of the Swakopmund community.

Summer House Festival Sharlien Tjambari People from all walks of life gathered at the Mondesa Sports Stadium on Saturday, for the Summer House Festival. This festival was well attended with over 500 visitors from across Namibia. The house music lovers enjoyed music from Dj Desertstorm, Dj Hou Vas and Dj Nevvy-Nev during the pre-show. Later that evening, Namibians were thrilled to hear the best beats from South Africa's youngest Dj, Dj Arch Junior, who is only three years of age. Dj Zinhle and Dj Heavy K, Da Capo and Master Jam also carried the house music lovers through the night.

Rapper donates 70% of cd-proceeds to buy gifts for children Ike Jericho Adanos, known as “IXA” is a rapper born in Narraville. On Friday he sold some of his cd's in Narraville and donated 70% of the proceeds to buy Christmas packs for the children of Narraville. The gifts were distributed on Saturday afternoon. Ixa is a Dj/Rapper /MC/ Songwriter born and raised in Walvis Bay. “I started writing and rapping in 2006 after approaching wellknown Producer/ Rapper/ Singer/ Songwriter Filiciano Arendse, aka 'Linzi'. “My friends and I started collaborating with Linzi on several tracks. Our second single ‘Ons Kan Ons Self Nie Keer Nie’ even earned unexpected radio airplay from several radio stations in Namibia, after making waves along the coast and that sparked my passion for writing. I continued to record several songs with Linzi and perfected my writing skills” he said. In 2009 he fell in love with the Deep Soulful Afro sounds of South Africa's House music scene and he ventured into DJing for 4 years, he swapped his mic for a pair of headsets,” he commented. In 2012 he wanted to record a song for a girl. “I was referred to Jeffrey Big-J Jobb and Salva-dore ‘Deezy’ Mouers,” an upcoming Producer and Vocalist

and this is when Brazse Fani Mic aka BFM was born, his first group. After several hit Mixtapes he decided to write and co-produce a song of his own, titled ‘Os Kyk Ma Voorentoe’. Ixa believes that with his unique style of writing many doors opened for him. He reached the number 1 spot on Radio Energy 100 fm's TOP 10 HIPHOP & RnB CHARTS. In 2015 he started his solo career, releasing his first single as a solo artist, which also earned the number 1 spot on Radio Energy's charts. “My recent project ‘Silwer Randjie’ is my first single that I am entering into the Namibian Music Awards (NAMAs). The single is therefore being launched to hopefully qualify as a nominee for ‘Best single’ and ‘Best song with a message’. “Most of my street credit was earned through rapping about my personal experiences to which many coloureds could relate. If I could describe my writing style in one word, it would be HOPE. Music saved my life and I hope

Ike Jericho Adanos, known as “IXA”

mine can do the same. “I believe that Ixa will go very far, his talent made me believe in him and also the message he want to bring out, he can only be an asset to the young children in Narraville's street. He can help them to change their lifestyle through his music” says Harold ‘Mr Magic’ Davids, Ixa's manager. His vision is to be the first coloured to accomplish his dream of becoming a well known and successful Afrikaans rapper.“My mission is to encourage other coloureds to not give up on something they love and to strive to accomplish their dreams too. Ike also wants to start recording with other Namibian Artists to further improve his music career as a local artist. He also wants to start airing his own radio show, thereby getting more involved in the local communities and presenting what the street life is all about. His career as a rapper will continue and he want his music to keep inspiring people for many more years.

Namibia Boxing Federation selects new board The Namibia Boxing Federation (NBF) on Friday announced its new interim board for amateur boxing. The board members were selected at a meeting held at A Shipena Secondary School in Windhoek at the beginning of this month.

The new members of the board of the Namibia Boxing Federation (fltr) Kenneth Muatara (Treasurer), Memory Manasse (Secretary-General)) and Benjamin Rebang (President)

During the meeting, NBF President Kelly Nghixulifwa and the federation's SecretaryGeneral, Joseph Kaperu stepped down from their positions. Benjamin Rebang was elected as the board's Interim President, deputised by Jeremia Ndjembo. The new Secretary-General is Memory Manasse, while the Treasurer is Kenneth Muatara, deputised by Vilho Shikeva. Josua Toivo is the board's Public Relations Officer, with Lysias Hangula elected as his deputy. The interim board will be in office until 30 November 2016 when an Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held. Nghixulifwa served as the president of the federation from June 1993. Speaking at a media conference in the capital on Friday, Nghixulifwa said he will lend his support to the new board and he is happy that they found people who are capable of taking amateur boxing to another level. “For the past 22 years that we were in charge, we developed a lot of contacts and we are going to use all that knowledge to help the new board settle in. The current board stepped down but due to AIBA standards not being met, we could not select a permanent board. We resolved to put in place an interim team to run the affairs,” he said. Nghixulifwa added that the previous board did not meet the Amateur International Boxing Association (AIBA) standards of holding regular meetings and therefore was not allowed to appoint new members. Rabang said the previous board made the right decision to hand over power to the new team and they will do everything they can to keep Namibian amateur boxing on the map. NAMPA
