The countdown has started for the commissioning of the container terminal on reclaimed land in the port of Walvis Bay. An opening ceremony is scheduled for 2 August and the terminal would go operational by 24 August. Continued on page 2

Mother left baby in stepfather’s care when the horror took place Isaac Chikosi A one-year-old baby girl was killed at Karibib on Thursday, allegedly by her stepfather who was alone at home with her. The murder incident leaves not only the closely knit Karibib community in shock and horror, but also Namibia as a whole which continues to suffer from gender-based violence and crimes again children and under vulnerable people. Ernst Mandebo Mutondo (27) was arrested shortly after the discovery and appeared in the Karibib magistrate's court yesterday. The mother of the little baby girl left her in the care of the stepfather when she had to go to work. The incident happened at the Usab location in Karibib. The mother went to work at 6:00 and returned at home at 18:00 and made the gruesome discovery. The body was first taken to the Usakos Mortuary and will be taken to the Walvis Bay Mortuary for post mortem examination.
