Erwin Leuschner

Zimbabweans living in Swakopmund joined their fellow countrymen on Tuesday evening and celebrated the end of President Robert Mugabe's 37-year long rule. "We are really happy. We're excited, overwhelmed‌", said Karen to namib times on Wednesday. namib times visited the arts and crafts traders operating at Kavita Park, where about a dozen Zimbabweans sell their products mostly to tourists. All of the Zimbabweans interviewed were happy and wish to return to Zimbabwe as soon as possible. "I came to Swakopmund eight years ago and started trading here, because of the economic situation at home", explains a

man who incidentally introduced himself as Robert. His earnings he sends home to support his wife and four children. "It's not much, but it is more than I would get back home", he explained. When he heard the news of 93-year-old Mugabe's resignation on Tuesday evening he celebrated. "I was also crying at the same time", he says, acknowledging the end of an era on the horizon. "I initially couldn't believe it", another Zim-

babwean Karen cuts in. Karen's husband lives in South Africa and their children are in Zimbabwe. "We are scattered all over due to the difficult economic situation at home. Now we can finally return and be united again as a family", she said smilingly. "We were partying and we prepared a lot of food to eat in celebration. It was exciting", she adds. Walvis Bay resident charged End of the road for Eclipse, for murder after deadly bar Paradise and former Little brawl Piquet Jacobs The 26-year-old, Sylvester Duiker, a Walvis Bay resident accused of Sharlien Tjambari Foot buildings causing the death of Sebulon Handjamba (25) during a brawl outside a

The old Eclipse and Paradise buildings, located on erf 3777 sandwiched between Mandume Ya Ndemufayo Street and Theo Ben Gurirab Avenue in Swakopmund, were demolished. The unoccupied buildings were home to vagrants and the community believed it to be the hideout for criminals. The buildings were also dilapidated and unsightly. The demolition of these buildings started about two weeks ago. First the roofs were removed and then the earthmoving machines moved in to demolish the empty brick and mortar shells.

All rubble was also removed and the area looks neat and tidy. One of the structures that were demolished housed the Little Foot Nursery, but the unoccupied structures soon became a place for street kids to live and

criminals to hide out. The erf, which is now in the hands of a private developer, was initially earmarked to form part of the Bahnhof Square development, which up to now only remains an idea on paper.

local club in the harbour town in the early hours of Sunday 12 November this year was granted bail. He appeared in the Walvis Bay magistrates court for his bail application. The incident lead to huge discontent among Walvis Bay residents who argue the Namibian Police was selective in who they arrested for the alleged murder. The brawl reportedly broke out between two groups at Shanghai night club whereby people allegedly struck each other with clenched fists and instruments which included a vehicle jack and a hammer.

During the physical altercation four people sustained moderate to serious head injuries and were taken to Walvis Bay state hospital for medical treatment. Handjamba passed away a few hours later and the police investigates now whether the death can be linked to injuries the deceased sustained as a result of the brawl. Duiker stands accused of having delivered the deadly blow by

hitting Handjamba over the head with the vehicle jack. Duiker, who was also one of the injured admitted to hospital, was arrested after his discharge from hospital and made his first appearance on a charge of murder in the Walvis Bay Magistrates court on Tuesday. Duiker’s bail was granted at N$10 000. His next appearance will be in February 2018.
