Mother slits newborn’s Alleged murder-mom throat in court this week A 29-year-old woman is set to appear in the Walvis Bay magistrate’s court on 12 March this year, for the alleged murder of her newborn baby on Thursday. The woman is believed to have slit her newborn’s throat shortly after its birth at her home in Tutaleni in Walvis Bay’s Malgas Street. The woman remains hospitalised under police guard and has been charged with murder and /or concealment of birth. According to the Erongo crime investigations coordinator of the Namibian Police, Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu the suspect gave birth to a baby boy in the bathroom and cut his throat open
with an unknown object. She wrapped the body in a black plastic bag and hid it under the bed. The owner of the house discovered a pool of fresh blood in the bathroom and alerted the police, who soon made the grisly discovery. The mother was arrested and is now recovering in hospital before being brought before a magistrate either today or later this week.
Walvis Bay Salt Refiners inaugurated its multi-million Namibia Dollar salt wash plant at is mining site south of Walvis Bay yesterday morning. Dubbing it “the white gold of the Namib”, Walvis Bay Salt Refiners is geared for salt exports of 1,2 million tons per year with major export clients in Westand East Africa; the Democratic Republic of Congo and North America. The wash plant can wash salt at a rate of 220 tons per hour. First US-beef export The Namibian Government, through Meatco, exported its first consignment of beef to the United States of America. The export consignment was exported via the port of Walvis Bay. Namibia’s meat export industry remains a matter of national pride. Namibia is the only African country with export agreements for the export of beef to the United States of America [market of 330 million people] as well as the vast Chinese market of 1,4 billion people. The statistics were released yesterday by the Minister of Trade and Insutry, Tjekero Tweya, who was a guest of honour at the inauguration of the salt wash plant of Walvis Bay Salt Refiners in Walvis Bay.
Walvis Bay Tourism Forum is in full swing It is all things business now for the newlyfounded Walvis Bay Tourism Forum. The Forum was founded on 14 November 2019 and held its first regular meeting on Wednesday (19 February 2020). WBTF will serve as a communication link between the Municipality of Walvis Bay, regulatory bodies and industry players. Established on 14th November 2019, the main aim is to market Walvis Bay as the number one tourism destination in Namibia. The forum will formulate industry specific solutions as well as channel the sector's challenges and aspirations to relevant authorities. In addition, the forum will work towards creating local industrial operation standards that will guide how tourism operators in Walvis Bay conduct themselves. The forum nominated an interim Working Steering Committee that was tasked with formulating the forum's strategies and work plan, which will be communicated to stakeholders and industry players. The interim committee currently has 15 members in various tourism sections, and they are as follows: Accommodation: Mr Cees Visser; Mr Rousseau Hill and Mr Alexander Alexander. Transport: Mr Carlo Merwe; Mr Paulus J. Jamba and Ms Synthia Swartz. Adventures: Mrs Helmi N. Mazgaj; Mr Fried Frederick and Mr Marius van Zyl. Marketing/Entertainment: Ms Helga Kapitako; Ms Conni Lyners and Mrs Ramona Bowe. Coastal Tours & Travel: Ms Vallery Sparg. Restaurants: Mr Luke Shindjabuluka. Regulatory body: Mr Riaan Oberholzer (Ministry of Environment & Tourism). The forum will select the Steering Committee of 12 members from the working committee that will serve for three years once the formulation process is completed.
