Waterfront-projek gaan voort - Kambueshe Marshallino Beukes

acquiring land will then be explored,” the letter reads. In Swakopmund, as well as Walvis Bay, hundreds of people flocked to distribution points of these letters. In Swakopmund applicants had to pay N$3 for the forms plus another N$3 for a copy of the Identity Documents. At Walvis Bay’s Kuisebmond suburb, it was reported that people had to cough up N$10 for the forms. The Swapo Party (Erongo Region) conducted a media conference on

this issue yesterday at Swakopmund, cautioning their Party members not to support this action. “I would like to advise the ‘land grabbers’ to follow the country law and policies, when applying for land, as stipulated in the Namibian Constitution,” said the Swapo Party Regional Coordinator, Phillipus Heita at the press conference. He however advised local authorities in the Erongo Region to accept the application forms and not reject it. Heita further warned that

Party members should heed the call and refrain from such action, in the interest of unity and stability.” The Swapo Party leadership has before and after independence advocated land opportunity for all,” he noted. According to Heita, the land activists program is reiterating what the government has already identified and given attention to. Party members who ignore this call would be dealt with harshly, he warned.

Complaints to Credit Ombud skyrockets The Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI) credit information removal project, the so-called ‘credit amnesty’, as well as unfair emoluments attachment orders boosted complaints and enquiries received by the office of the Credit Ombud by 50,24% during the period January to December 2014.

18 Million for Directorate of Maritime Affairs' offices! Continued from page 1 In his keynote address, Deputy Minister, Mr Kilus Nguvuava said that, the Miistry of Works and Transport’s overall mandate is to develop, implement and regulate transport sectorial policies, ensure infrastructure development and, management of transport and state assets, with the view to ensure and regulate the provision of safe, effective and efficient infrastructure and services, which are responsive to the socio-economic needs of the public. With emphasis on maritime affairs, the Ministry of Works and Transport has the national responsibility to administer and enforce maritime rules and regulations in order to ensure safety of life and property at seas, prevent and combat pollution of marine environment by ships, as well as promo-

Minister and Deputy Mayor with the plaque ting national maritime interests. As the maritime rules and regulations are of international nature, Namibia is a member of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) that sets standards through international maritime conventions and codes. Namibia has therefore the international responsibility to ensure full implementation of minimum requirements of IMO, international maritime conventions and codes. “My instruction to the

DMA staff is, now that you have a new building there should be no reason for you not to render quality service on Maritime Affairs to the public. This office space is sufficient for your operations. You must take due care of this government building put at your disposal. To the industry, institutions and individuals, the doors are now wide open and you have full access to the DMA to acquire services you need. Make use of this facility!”

Speaking at the release of the Credit Ombud’s 2014 annual report, Credit Ombud Manie Van Schalkwyk said complaints and enquiries totaled 16 146 for the period, an average of 1 345,5 complaints and enquiries per month. Under the new regulations published by the DTI in February 2014 relating to the “Removal
of Adverse Credit Information and Paid- up Judgments”, credit bureaus removed all existing adverse information from consumers’ credit records. But after 1 April 2014, it was business as usual, with new default listings again submitted. This gave rise to consumer disputes and could continue to do so, he warned. The regulation further stipulated that paid-up judgments should be removed, and some consumers complained that although their judgments were paid, the information remained on their credit records. “For a few months our office was inundated with calls and enquiries from consumers regarding the so-called ‘credit amnesty’ and how it affected their credit profiles,” explained Van Schalkwyk. “One of the main areas we focused on was affording consumers redress to correct their credit information.” Calls to the Credit Ombud’s call centre increased

by 48% over the 2014 period and led to a 60% increase in the number of complaints and enquiries relating to the removal of credit information. ”To help educate consumers and employers and raise awareness around credit issues, 34 outreach activities and workshops across eight provinces were held. Another consumer education initiative targeted credit active consumers in their workplace called Double Impact. Nearly 1 100 delegates received the Double Impact training. A large benefit is that the training outcomes are structured and measured according
to guidelines outlined by the National financial Literacy Consumer Education Strategy. Van Schalkwyk noted that the soon-to-be promulgated National Credit Amendment Act will enable the Credit Ombud to continue to play an even bigger role in shaping the credit and credit information landscape, especially with regard to affordability assessments and the enlistment of maintenance defaulters. In addition, the second draft of the Financial Sector Regulation Bill published late last year goes a long way in strengthening the ombuds system by creating a stronger central

coordinating role for the Financial Services Ombuds Council. “By recognising a credit agreement as a financial product, it widens the net of credit grantors who will be subject to the jurisdiction of a voluntary ombud,” he added. He said overall, the majority of the members and their agents co-operated with the Credit Ombud and during 2014 all cases were resolved through negotiation. No rulings were issued. This year marks a milestone in the history of the Credit Ombud as it celebrates 10 years of resolving credit conflicts between consumers and businesses. Van Schalkwyk welcomed new Credit Ombud Nicky Lala-Mohan, who takes over the reigns on 1 March 2015. Lala-Mohan was previously Chairperson of the Credit Ombud’s Council. He has more than two decades of experience in the credit industry, holding various positions within Standard Bank and the Banking Association. Lala-Mohan said he was looking forward to building on the strong platform developed over the past decade. “Finding equitable resolution to disputes in the credit industry requires the input of all stakeholders, including consumers and lending organisations,” he said.

Confusion regarding land application forms Marshallino Beukes

According to the Regional coordinator of the National Unity Democratic Organisation (NUDO), Councillor Omuingona Uahimisa Kaapehi, some of the Swakopmund residents were under the impression that land application forms, to be handed in today, were distributed by the town’s Municipality. In an interview with namib times the Swakopmund councillor said this came to light at a public meeting he orchestrated at his home in the coastal town. About 150 residents attended the meeting and Kaapehi noted that the majority of those people, indicated that they want a refund for their money and their names removed from the application data. The main aim of this

meeting, according to Kaapehi, was the discussion of the Mass Housing Project and how residents may benefit from it. The councillor noted that the Core 5, 6 and 7 houses will be subsidised by the Government and residents earning less than N$5 000 per month can benefit. According to his calculations owners of these houses will have to pay

a monthly payment of around N$600, excluding water and electricity. “But how will people earning for example N$1 500 per month, benefit from this scheme?” he asked. In the light of this they set up a meeting with the line Minister to discuss the matter, said Kaapehi. He further mentioned that the Swakopmund Municipality and the Nation-

al Housing Enterprise (NHE) had decided to compile one primary list with the names of residents who do not have their own houses. He explained that the reason for this move was to ensure that people do not sign their names on different lists, as in the past there were lists for NHE, Build Together and a third registration list of the town’s Municipality. Kaapehi said around

14 798 residents were currently on the Municipality’s list of people applying for homes. Regarding the affirmative repositioning movement he noted that everybody had the right to apply for land, but he cautioned that residents had to be sure that that was the right way to follow. According to him this movement has a hidden political agenda. Meanwhile Swakop-

mund’s mayor, Mr Juuso Kambueshe told the namib times that the land issue is all about nepotism and that it came as a result of last year’s elections, as some people cannot accept the results of this elections. He categorised the movement under the same umbrella as the Swakopmund “land grabbers,” calling them, obstacles.”

N$20 billion Husab project on schedule

Construction at Swakop Uranium's Husab Mine is on schedule and according to the mine's management, ready to start production, early next year. The estimated capital/ development cost for this project is N$20-billion and the first blasting for mining instigated during March 2014. A total of 150 million tonnes of rock will be moved per annum and 15 million tonnes of ore, processed per annum. The mine with a life-span of 20years plus, is currently the third largest uranium-only deposit in the world. A media site visit was organized by Swakop Uranium and reporters from different media houses got an inside glimpse of this gigantic project. Since 2006 a total of 800 kilometres were drilled to delineate the two ore bodies. Approximately 4000 employees are currently

busy with construction work at the mine and accommodation for about 2200 of these workers was also catered for at the mine site. This “small town” is called the Husab Village and makes provision for housing, a recreational hall, football pitch, kitchen, a clinic and bar facilities. According to Mr Deon Garbers, the mine's senior vice president of operations, the residents are very well behaved and disciplined and no problems are experienced. Roughly N$450 million was needed to keep the village up and running. After completion of the mine, these structures will be demolished and nobody will be residing at the site. Up to date about half of the N$20

billion has been used, said Swakop Uranium's Chief Executive Officer, Mr Zheng Keping. Namwater is currently busy with the installing of a water pipeline from Wlotzkasbaken (north of Swakopmund) to the mine. Before construction activities on the Husab Project site kicked-off, all protected flora that had the potential to be affected, were relocated. About 52 000 Welwitchia Mirabilis plants are found within the mine area, and according to Garbers none of these plants are affected. However of twenty Welwitschia Mirabilis plants that had to be removed to make way for the water pipeline and the temporary road, only one survived.

This gigantic project will also provide technical training for about 410 mining and processing operators. About fifty graduates for the 2015 intake from NIMT will also receive technical training to become experienced artisans. All the training will cost the company over N$150 million over a two-year period.

namib times HIV campaign still making waves The namib times in collaboration, with the US Embassy, launched an HIV/Aids campaign on Monday, “Share your status with the ones you love”. At the monthly council meeting, held on Tuesday at the Council Chambers in Walvis Bay, the Mayor of Walvis Bay Ms. Uilika Nambaha applauded the namib times for the initiative taken along with the different stakeholders. “At the outset, I want to applaud the efforts of the namib times for seeing the bigger picture when it comes to HIV/Aids by launching an awareness campaign under the theme” Share your status with the ones you love”, with support from the government of the United States of America. The

'Share your status with the ones you love' campaign presents a fresh approach to how our society is supposed to deal with sexual infections”. “To understand this, we must look at ourselves first as cultural beings used to doing things in a particular manner, analyse whether those ways are beneficial to ourselves and our partners and thereafter look at what we need to do to protect and extend the lives of our partners in order to enable our families to enjoy the presence of both parents in the lives of our children and our community.”

“The campaign to allow people to share their status with the loved ones will increase the level of support that a given family will give to an infected person and similarly understand their specific n e ed s in h elp i n g to encourage these infected members to remain on treatment and help by reminding them to take their tablets on time every time”. “Also, when status is shared with loved ones, the partners who are not infected will remain uninfected as the partners will have to resort to

condom use and other preventative measures. The issue of HIV/Aids is of particular relevance to us in the Port City of Walvis Bay because it is here where our city's inhabitants make contact with large numbers of visitors who as a result of our well-developed sea and airports, rail and road networks increases the exposures of new infections and reinfections”. “It is quite clear that the increase in economic activity and growth in this city is a trigger for the occurrence of illicit acts such as prostitution and other crimes”. “However, be that as it may, our emphasis should be on sharing our status with those we love. When

one shares your status with those you love, you lessen the burden associated with keeping secrets, and your partner, although perhaps shocked at first, will appreciate your honesty and extend his or her support. “ “It is required that our entire community understand and share in this principle, as it is the only way we begin to be less judgmental or critical to those whom due to no fault of their own have contracted the virus. I feel I must say this: The fact that some of us have gone and tested negative to HIV does not mean we are super smart or that we are invincible but this only means that those that tested positive have

suffered unavoidable misfortune similar to a house fire, a plane crash or a traffic accident and are worthy of our support. Given the fact that HIV is not only prevalent in one tribal or racial group and while we understand that it could affect us all, we must remain united in the fight not against those infected but against the real disease which is stigma”. “I believe, many people in our city have suffered long and hard, not from HIV or Aids but more so from how we treat them daily. It is also not a secret that every organisation has amongst its staff members, people who are living with the HIV virus. But, what help or support do we extend to

Leandrea Louw them in order to making sure they are not treated unfairly? What support initiative do we have in place to ensure that they are not ridiculed or segregated”. She also urged the Councilors and Municipal staff to lead by example and become active advocates against stigma and discrimination against people within their work environment and community who are living with HIV/Aids. “Once we have liberated ourselves from the stigma and discrimination, we will quickly win the fight against HIV/aids and reduce its socio-economic impact on our city and country.”

Unique Study by SDP 18 at Permits Gobabeb Finalised Obtaining Fishing

Obtain a permit from the Namibian Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources (MFMR) to catch fish or dive for crayfish and respect harvesting limitations.

WHY? The marine resources are limited and currently some of them are overfished or over collected. It is necessary that everybody uses them wisely and carefully to secure the future harvesting needs by protecting the stock. Quantity/number of marine resources harvestable, minimum size limits of fish and crayfish that can be caught, open season etc. help to manage stocks to avoid the total disappearance of some species in our waters. Do not leave bait or fish on the beach! Either take it home or return it to the sea. This food attracts scavengers like jackals and gulls that prey on other bio-diversity. When you are back home after the holiday, it also inflates the predator population. Where can you get a license for angling, crayfish diving & bait/mussels collection?

The Summer Desertification Programme (SDP 18) a research methodology course, consisting of a group of nine students from UNAM, IUM and Polytechnic of Namibia, undertook research at Gobabeb Research and Training Centre to compare biomass of fauna and flora. The students focused on two perennial plants: Trianthema hereroensis and Stipagrostis subulicola in the Namib Sand Sea World Heritage Site. They also compared data from the past 52 years to understand the effects of rainfall on the Namib Sand Sea ecosystem. They found that the mean rainfall from 1934 to 1975 of 14mm/ year was followed by a tremendous increase in 1976 with 124.95mm. In recent years, the rainfall has remained high with rainfall of 163.6mm in 2011. As a result, there has been a massive increase

of two perennial plants, T. hereroensis and S. subulicola in the Namib Desert dunes. After two months of hard work and sleepless nights, students proudly completed their research work. The Namib Sand Sea is a dynamic ecosystem with complex food

chains which depend on fog. Unlike rain, fog is more regular and is needed for the upkeeping of life in the Desert. Changes in fog patterns due to climate change may influence the ecosystem and affect life in the Sand Sea. The Namib Sand Sea is a distinct and spectacu-

It is one of Namibia’s main tourist attraction drawing large portions of tourists that visit the country, second only to Etosha National Park. Since tourism is Namibia’s key contributor to GDP, the protection of this unique environment is essential.

“I want to see Mellissa live a long life’’ Madelaine Laubscher

-Cancer survivor helps MellissaMr AJ Kruger (24), a local cancer survivor, is planning to help Mellissa Bester, the cancer patient that the namib times recently reported on. He has offered to give her a donation after doing a solo 288 kilometre desert drive with his quad bike on 5 March. After the newspaper article last week, about Mellissa, who has been diagnosed with cancer and who is in need of financial assistance, Mr AJ Kruger offered to assist her financially. AJ was diagnosed with ALL (childhood acute lymphoblastic leukaemia) at the age of 22 and according to him he has been in remission for approximately a year and half now. He is planning to raise funds where he will drive through the desert on his quad bike for 288 kilometres. The project is known as ‘288 For Cancer’ which is an endurance quad drive. He wants to give back to the community after the support he received when he was diagnosed. He stated that he would not have been

able to survive without the support of friends and family and this has brought to life the need to give thanks by helping those affected by the disease. According to him it is a one day event and consists of a solo endurance ride and a support vehicle with a mechanic, videographer and medical standby team. AJ says “a co-worker of mine informed me about Mellissa’s need. I read through the article that was published earlier and decided to get hold of a representative of Mellissa. She really needs the help and support. I have not had the opportunity to meet her yet, but my thoughts are with her and I promise to visit her once all the funds are ready to be transferred to her trust

fund,” he said. He says since he was diagnosed with cancer, he has developed a more positive outlook over the emotional struggle. “It was really difficult in the beginning. Financially I thought that I would not make it. Luckily, because of the support I received from friends and my family, I pulled through.” According to AJ he has done practice quad runs around Swakopmund and Walvis Bay and this coming endurance drive will be the first official one. “I hope by next year I can do another drive, but with a different bike and also a different road.” The newspaper asked AJ what it means to him to be able to help Mellissa and he said “I feel that I am do-

AJ Kruger ready to help Mellissa

ing the right thing. I feel very positive about it and what inspires me is to see her get better and to see her happy. I want to see her live a long healthy life with her family.” The newspaper also spoke to the very emotional Mellissa on Wednesday and asked how she is doing. She said that she is overwhelmed with gratitude towards everyone who is willing to

help. “I am in Windhoek in the hospital at the moment suffering with kidney failure. An operation will have to be carried out soon, which will hopefully be on Monday. I cannot receive chemotherapy before the operation is carried out. I am trying to stay positive and to keep my head above water. I do not have words to describe the gratitude I feel

towards everybody who wants to help. I feel very blessed. The mere fact that people who do not even know me want to help me, is very overwhelming. I do not know how to say thank you. Also, the fact that AJ wants to risk a 288 kilometre drive in the desert after he was also sick, has me amazed. I could never have comprehended that

someone like AJ would ever try and save my life through such a noble deed. I just do not have the words to say how grateful I am,” she concluded. Another fundraiser is also on the roll where raffle tickets can be bought for prizes in an aid to help Mellissa. For more information contact Ms Anchen Visser at 081 257 1980.

Maize price increase due to drought Madelaine Laubscher

Against the background of the current drought Namibia is facing during the rainy season, the Public Relations Officer at Namib Mills, Mr Pieter Van Niekerk has explained to namib times why Maize Meal prices have to be increased with 17%. “This follows in the wake of a price decrease a very short while ago, of 5%. The market regarding maize is currently very volatile, as it is driven by sentiment, weather and the exchange rate,” he says. “Unfortunately it is already too late for all the dry-land Maize farmers in Namibia, as their planting could not continue to grow during a typical mid-summer drought. “Pending any rain for the rest of the season, the current expectations for local White Maize production in Namibia is below 40 000 tons. According to the press release chicken prices can also be affected.

The final calculations and effect of this have not yet been done due to current high volatility of prices. “We do not expect shortages of both white and yellow maize specifically for Namibia, as Namib Mills and Feedmaster are already busy to at least ensure availability for the next 16 months. Only availability will be ensured, as the price volatility in the soft commodity markets is

just too high to fix prices from a risk point of view. We however prefer to source our raw materials from South Africa, as we believe that Namibia as a country, cannot import maize or soya beans as effectively from other continents as South Africa. Taking all this into account, we urge consumers and retailers not to panic as we expect not to experience any physical shortages.

This depends on the current actions taken by us to ensure constant availability. Namibia consumes a very small portion of the South African harvest, thus it is possible to secure availability early in the year. The price expectations are however more of a concern and we expect constant high prices until the next harvest, dependant on the rain for late 2015 and beginning of 2016.”

According to the media release the situation for livestock farmers is also not too positive. “The difference, however to crop farmers, is that rain for the remainder of the rainy season can still help. We expect that the grazing would have suffered some damage as the rainfall up to now was well below normal, and that it is already late in the season to expect good growth, should we still receive

some good rains in the near future. We urge livestock producers to plan accordingly. The marketing of livestock must be well planned and farmers must make use of finisher programmes in order to still market livestock as early as possible and at the best condition, with the drought in mind. Unfortunately from a

Feedmaster production side we will however struggle to supply enough feed for the increased demand. We have already increased production at our Windhoek and Upington-plants. The aim is to run at full capacity for the rest of the year, but we envisage that this will not be enough.

We got signed! Next Stop - the NAMAs!

Leandrea Louw

Salvador Mouers, Vernice Plaatje and Monique English, from the coastal towns of Walvis Bay and Swakopmund, scored a recording deal with VMR, a recording company based in Cape Town, Atlantis. These three are wellknown as local celebrities with their powerful vocal ranges. The deal took root when they were in Cape Town, early this year in January. ’It’s quite a funny story. We were in Atlantis, and were supposed to travel back to Walvis Bay but we missed the bus. Laurenzo then told us the next day that he wanted to sign us, and after contractual negotiations it happened!”, Vernice exclaimed excitingly. VMR is owned by Laurenzo Davids, one of the family members of the

South African Davids Family, and is a record label that focusses on recording, producing and sound hiring. Salvador and Vernice are however once again packing for another trip to Atlantis, to record and finish their singles. Vernice has two singles that she still has to finish, titled, “Happy Being Me’ and “Lovers or Friends.’ Monique has also just returned from South Africa, where she finished her single. “I’m happy and content with what we have achieved so far, but we can do so much more and

we want to do much more, if people would just give us the chance”, Salvador said. They are planning to host a gala evening, perhaps a tour as well in the later future for exposure of their music and what they have to offer, to the entire country. Currently they need, N$250 000 ( +_ N$80 000 each), for the production of music videos, photo shoots, in general terms, for their marketing strategy. “We’ve approached many possible sponsors, but we always get the same answer - no. We are disappointed each time,

because this is our dream and music is a universal language. How can you say no to that?” The trio are also currently busy with a youth song, to empower and reach out to the youth of today. “I just wish people would open up their hearts to give us the chance that we truly deserve, but they should definitely prepare themselves for what’s coming”, Vernice said determinedly. “I always say go big or go home, and this is my time. I want to grow, I’ll always come back to my roots, as my roots, my family,

my friends and my community made me who I am today. I just really wish people would give me, give us, the chance to truly let our voices be heard.” “Music is a big part of me, it’s who I am, it’s what I am, thus we hope those closest to us, will lend a helping hand and support us. In the meantime, everyone who has supported us, till this very day- we are immensely grateful”, Salvador said. Sharlien Tjambari

The Community Skills Development Centre (COSDEC), Swakopmund centre, had its graduation ceremony on last week Friday. Although this was the first graduation ceremony at the new centre which is in Mondesa, close to the taxi rank, this was the 7th graduation ceremony in total. This year there were about 90 graduates in total from different field of studies including Office Administration and Basic Food Preparation and Catering.

Addressing the students during the ceremony, the Governor of Erongo Region Mr Cleophas Mutjavikua said “graduates, do not go and sit at home,

Mr Jeremy Muller, Support Unit Manager of COSDEC

rather find something strategic to do in order to make a living rather than sitting at home and doing nothing” he also added that COSDEC offers an opportunity for research and development in Namibia, thus making it the most important centre. There are about nine Community skills development centres in Namibia and all those centres are supported and supervised by the Community Skills Development Foundation. Invited guests included the Mayor of Swakopmund, Hon Juuso Kambueshe, Mayor of Arandis, Hon Utapi Muhuura and Hon Aila Haufiku the Mayor of Henties Bay.

This year’s graduation was special as it incorporated the inauguration of the new centre where the graduation took place. The building was inaugurated by the Governor of Erongo Region Mr Cleophas Mutjavikua right after the graduation ceremony. COSDECs are community skills training centres, the vision of the COSDEC is to provide focused, practical skills training that incorporates business skills, entrepreneurship, and life skills and to relate the training programs to opportunities in the local economy in terms of demand for goods and services.

3. Ein Locker-vomHocker Band 3. Senden Sie Ihre Antwort(en) bitte an: susannkinghorn@

Locker vom Hocker Zum Joggen geboren...

My True Story Of A Remarkable Friendship.

Chevrolet Trailblazer a new favourite SUV in Zimbabwe

The Chevrolet Trailblazer has emerged as Zimbabwe's favourite medium-sized SUV, following a bumper year for General Motors vehicles in Zimbabwe in 2014, where GM saw a market share overall of 19.8%. "Trailblazer sales increased by 25% last year, compared to 2013," comments General Motors South Africa's Vice President of Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing, Brian Olson.

"The medium SUV segment Trailblazer share is now sitting at 31% - an increase of 13% compared to that of 2013. This exponential growth can largely be factored down to

having the right product for the market, retailed through our dedicated Autoworld dealer partners who are committed to provide customers with outstanding customer service. "The Chevrolet Trailblazer, which was originally introduced to Zimbabwe in 2012, is an affordable, ultimately-capable medium-sized SUV

with leading off-road and towing capabilities with premium ride and handling dynamics." To meet the varying needs of customers, the Trailblazer is available in a choice of petrol and class leading turbocharged diesel engines in twoor four-wheel drive and a generous ground clearance of up to 230 mm to tackle the varying terrain conditions. Alloy wheels and colour coding ensure exterior remains classy while the sophisticated interior of the Trailblazer features the new-age Chevrolet Mylink Infotainment System, bringing smartphone technology to your Trailblazer. Superior third row of seating doubled up with air conditioning for all seven occupants allows for comfort in the cabin on those long trips. Feature highlights across the range also benefit from cruise control, multi-function leather steering, all round electric windows, eleven cup

holders and four power sockets for passenger peace of mind. Naturally, safety equipment matches the high specification levels, with Trailblazer featuring ABS with EBD, PBA (Panic Brake Assist), HBFA (Hydraulic Brake Fade Assist), a limited slip differential, six airbags including two additional side air-bags, ISOFIX child seat anchors, a collapsible steering column and remote central locking with autolocking doors. Range-topping LTZ models benefit from the addition of ESC (Electronic Stability Control) and TCS (Traction Control System), HDC (Hill Descent Control), TSC (Trailer Sway Control) and EDC (Engine Drag Control), the LTZ automatic models also featuring HSA (Hill Start Assistance). All Chevrolet Trailblazer models are sold as standard with a 3-year/ 100 000 km warranty

Audacious Auris with Authentic New Styling Breaks Cover Toyota will debut fresh exterior and interior designs for the Auris at next month's Geneva Motor Show. The hatch will be shown alongside the Touring Sports wagon (not available locally) and in addition to fresh styling, features an upgraded cabin as well as new comfort and safety kit. The new model will arrive on our shores later this year. The hybrid remains at the heart of the range, having established itself as the flagship powertrain in the line-up, and accounting for around half of all Auris sales in Europe in 2014 – the XR 1.6-litre petrol model is the volume seller locally. The simultaneous reveal of new Auris and Avensis (not destined for SA launch) follows on from last year’s introduction of Aygo and Yaris to complete a full rejuvenation of Toyota’s core passenger model range. Toyota will host its Geneva motor show press conference on its stand in Hall 4 at Palexpo, at 12:15 on 3 March 2015.

Ford Performance Crew Eagerly Anticipating Start Of 2015 Rally Season Double national rally champions Mark Cronje and Robin Houghton will be flying the official Ford Performance flag when the 2015 South African Rally Championship kicks off this weekend on KwaZulu-Natal's South Coast. The Tour Natal is based at the Scottburgh Country Club, and features six action-packed stages on Friday, followed by five stages on Saturday for a total 179 km of adrenaline-charged action. The event wraps up on Saturday afternoon with a "power stage" at Montevideo, adjacent to the Scottburgh runway. This spectatorfriendly innovation will see the grid inverted and the slowest competitors being progressively knocked off a

demarcated bench, ultimately leaving the winners as the last crew remaining. Cronje and Houghton, who won the Tour Natal in 2012 and 2013 on their way to the back-to-back titles, are among seven premier Class S2000 crews expected at the start line on Friday, competing in their four-wheel drive normally aspirated Ford Fiesta (#24). This is the same specification car as used last year, with their upgraded car scheduled to make its debut at the Sasol Rally in April. One of the biggest

changes for the 2015 season is that the teams will have two opportunities to recce the route ahead of the rally, giving the crews time to refine their pace notes for the event, as is done in the World Rally Championship. "Allowing us to recce the route and produce or refine our own pace notes is a huge change from last year, and will make the stage times faster and more competitive," Cronje says. "This will be particularly beneficial on the Tour Natal, as it's a very tricky event with an extremely slippery surface. Unlike other rallies, there is no room

for mistakes on the Tour Natal, because if you go off into the sugar cane the car gets beached and that's usually the end of your rally." Cronje also indicates that the starting position is extremely important on this event, with the starting order deter-

mined by a draw. "The first cars effectively sweep the road and the times get faster the further back you start as the slippery surface is cleared. By day two there is much more grip and everyone is on maximum attack. "We are really excited to be competing under

the Ford Performance banner this year, and believe that we have a race-winning car and team," Cronje states. The action kicks off from the official start and service park at the Scottburgh Country Club at 12:00 on Friday, with the first special stage com-

mencing at 12:45. The day wraps up back at the service park at 18:00. On Saturday the crews start stage seven at 08:40, while the highly anticipated Montevideo power stage begins at 13:40 and is expected to be a true crowd-pleaser.

Blue waters ready to take home Premier League Title! Walvis Bay based football outfit LHU Blue Waters are confident that the team can win the Namibia Premier League (NPL) season 2014/15 title. Blue Water's coach Paulus Shipanga told Nampa on Tuesday in a telephonic interview that his team has grown in unity, and their goal for this season is to win the league for the fourth time. Blue Waters won the title in 1988, 1996, 2000 and 2004.Shipanga said when the team started the season they only had one goal but that has only been motivating. “Ever since we started this season we have been in the top five and we want to improve our position on the log to win the league or to remain where we are,” he said. Blue Waters are currently fourth on the log stand with 33 points, following Tura Magic with 34 points. Shipanga said the team is taking one game at the time and trying to win every game they take on. He

Walvis Bay Golf Club News Club Competition –Saturday 21 February Last Saturday was very quiet at our club as 30 Walvis Bay players went to Windhoek to play the National Pairs. The Club sponsored and individual bonus bogey plus that was not played in a long time. The few that showed up for play at least had some very nice weather and the rugby was satisfactorily for only a few. The handicapper, once again, outplayed all of us. This time round he got a new handicap. Gunter Heitmann easily won the day with a plus 8! You deserve that new handicap Gunter. Club Captain Herman Smidt decided that due to the few players second and third place was decided by way of lucky draw. Maybe he had his reasons, because Anton and Herman won the lucky draws. Not so lucky this time round was Flippie de Villiers. Sitting in the club complaining that nobody wants to play with him, shame, he won the P-Pot for complaining. Mooi gekla oom Flip KIT Group pairs: Walvis Bay Golf Club was well presented at the national

Pairs in Windhoek and our players did very well. Gert Olivier and Piet Fox ended in 4th place on the gross and Kevin Wentzel and Willie van Zyl 5th. In the nett competition Gert and Piet ended second and Kevin and Willie 5th and Nico Heunis and Grant Mather in 6th place. Well done boys. Johnny Borges and Victor Clara, again, could not beat Stephan Jacksch and Virgilio Sardinha in this format. Pay up Johnny, be the man and honour the bet! This Saturday Oom Beyers Truter from Beyerskloof is our host with an individual stableford competition. Yes, red wine time. Oom Beyers will also be playing and promised very nice wine that will be up for grabs. We will also have a special on his famous Pinotage and Chenin Blanc Pinotage on Saturday while stocks last. Construction work is still continuing. It does not look good, but it is for the best. Please be patient and just bear with us. It will look very nice once completed. Remember the club fundraiser on 7 March! Entry form attached. If anyone can assist or wants to contribute towards our own, please

added that the team's performance is also boosted by the assistance of the technical team, who are former footballers. “The support from the technical team is good, and them being former players, they bring that experience to the team,” he said, adding that the team also has young players who are easy to work with. “Most of my players are under 25 years-old, so it is normally easy to work with young people,” he said. On Sunday during the round 18 games, Blue Waters managed to beat Rebels by 1-0, while on Saturday they beat Tigers 2-1. The team ended fifth in the last season with 32 points and survived relegation in the 2012/13 season when they ended 10th with 23 points. (NAMPA) contact me. We certainly need all the help and assistance we can get. The committee has lots of plans

for us this coming year and we certainly want to make our club special for all of us. See you on the fairway.

THANK YOU!!! The “Blue Boys FC” would like to thank

Rossmund Golf News Well to be honest I have no idea what the weather is trying to do today was cold overcast even rainy at times and a cold northerly wind blowing for most of the day. But who cares, we still enjoyed our golf - beats a day in the office; at a workshop or whatever . Last Saturday 21 February the Club sponsored Individual Stableford competition saw some of our old timers back on the course and even in the prizes. With the shortened fairway there were 3 two clubs on Number 12 : A Abrahams; G Cloete and S Ndalumbumo The winning scores were also very close - the winner on a countout with 35pts was S Ndalumbumo over Z Nel and in 3rd spot on 34pts E van Wyk. Have had no feedback on how our guys faired in the Federation Pairs. Saturday 28 February will be our Novanam Monthly Medal Competition Sunday 1 March - SAGES - Walvis Bay Sunday 29 March is our Golfer/Non-Golfer Funday - watch this space for further details. We plan to start with our Wednesday Competitions next week 4 March so please join in - put your names on the list complete your game at each hole and stand a chance to win. Competition Fees will be N$25 for 18 holes and N$15 for 9 holes. Can't wait to cya there!!!! Africaonline will come on board again later in the year so watch out for the big ones's. The fairways are in great condition so please feel free to play on them as much as you like . A thought for the week from the late maestro himself Seve Ballesteros " I'd like to see the fairways more narrow. Then everyone would have to play from the rough not just me."
