"Retrenchments are off" - TransNamib Photo by Liesl Losper
Refurbished locomotives arrive as turnaround plan confusion and upset deepens Liesl Losper One of the five refurbished TransNamib locomotives from South Africa, welcomed by Namibia’s Minister of Transport on Tuesday, made its first arrival on Saturday morning at the Walvis Bay railway station. The five locomotives are part of TransNamib’s 180-day Turnaround plan, that was adopted on 25 September 2014, in a quest to improve the company’s performance. The refurbished locomotive arrived while great uncertainty surrounds the planned retrenchment of some 960 TransNamib workers, who at this stage, do not still know who they are. When namib times on various occasions tried to establish how many TransNamib workers residing in Erongo would be affected, the answer that was repeatedly given from various stakeholders, was that the names were not yet known, and thus the figure for Erongo was not available. TransNamib says it needs 9 billion Namibian dollar (or around 773 million US dollar) to refurbish its infrastructure. The Chairman of the TransNamib Hold-
ings Board of Directors, Dr Pieter Oosthuizen, says the railway infrastructure that belongs to the government is in a very bad condition and it poses serious safety concerns. “If these tracks are not maintained, we will face serious safety issues and we may risk derailments or lose our hard-earned assets,” Oosthuizen said. TransNamib wants to get rid of its “non-core” activities, under which its parcel and road freight business. But while many are up in arms about this move, TransNamib maintains that it is not leaving its workers to the wolves. “We are not sending our employees to the streets to be unemployed as it

Our Turnaround Plan was well calculated with vested political interest by our Government not to increase the already high unemployment in Namibia. This is definitely not what TransNamib’s Turnaround Plan is all about. According to the latest news on the TransNamib retrenchment saga, Dr Pieter Oosthuizen, comment-
ed. “The empowerment strategy of our Turnaround Plan is to transform our affected employees into job creators and not job seekers. It is therefore sad to note how parties misrepresent our Turnaround Plan out of context, misleading the Nation that TransNamib is retrenching employees leaving them in the wilderness of unemployment.” Efforts from the newspa-
per to get comment from TransNamib and NATAU on how this retrenchment is impacting specifically the Erongo Region, first proved futile. But, according to a report in African Cargo News, it plans to give its parcel and road freight sections and around 1 000 of its workers over to the Namibia Transport and Allied Workers Union, NATAU’s business arm, Zealot Invest-
ments. Then very late yesterday, after several more telephone calls to get clarity over the matter, or at least a time frame for the planned retrenchments, we received the following joint statement from TransNamib and Natau: “The recent consultations between TransNamib Management and NATAU over the Right Sizing Exercise at TransNamib

Ebola deals heavy blow on Air Namibia
The much anticipated 2015-edition NAMA host town and venue for the 2015 NAMAs will be announced live on NBC TV on Friday 30 January on the popular music program Whatagwan at 16:30. This was confirmed by NAMA Executive Chairman, Tim Ekandjo, who said that the Committee has satisfied itself with all elements of the two towns including its venues, and a public announcement is now pending for this coming Friday.
Although the Ebola virus has been contained in some affected African countries, Air Namibia is counting its losses which are said to be at 50 million Namibian dollar (about 5 million US dollar).
The towns of Swakopmund and Ongwediva were the hot contenders in vying to host Namibia’s prestigious musical event, with Swakopmund offering the ultra-modern Swakopmund Indoor Sports Centre as the venue – whilst Ongwediva offered Namibia’s grand lady of exhibition venues the Ongwediva International Trade Fair Centre. In the meantime, Ekandjo has confirmed that the Vetting process has successfully been concluded after a 5 day intensive vetting process. The Steering Committee scrutinised entries received to check whether it fully complies with the NAMA rules and regulations. “We are satisfied with the thoroughness of the work done by the Steering Committee that comprises of independent industry experts.” A total of 570 entries were
The airline’s acting chief executive officer Rene Gsponer said last week that ever since the Ebola virus outbreak, Namibia has seen very few visitors from European countries. “Up to October, because it was a peak season, we increased our booking numbers, our load factors and also our revenue so all the trends were very good but now we have a bit of a crisis because we are facing the Ebola effects,” Gsponer told the media. Gsponer said there has been a wrong perception that Namibia is one of the countries that have recorded Ebola cases, but it will not be easy for Namibia to change the perception. “We will have to make more marketing sales,” he added. “We will be selling to the world that there has never been a case of Ebola in Namib-
approved for judging, while a total of 212 were disqualified. The common reasons for disqualification based on the reports of the Steering Committee were, invalid release dates of the albums, wrong categories placements, duplicate entries, multiple entries in more than the required 2 genre categories stipulation and or the lack of insufficient information supplied with the entry. The categories with the most qualified entries are Best Single (89) followed by Best Newcomer (69), Best Collaboration (61), Best Music Video (47) and surprisingly the new category Best Song with a Message (45). Other qualified entries are Best Afrikaans (8), Best Afro-Pop (43), Best Damara Punch (7), Best Gospel (35), Best Group/Duo (21), Best House (16), Best Ki-
zomba (5), Best Kwaito (31), Best Oviritje (10), Best R&B (10), Best Rap/ Hip Hop (19), Best Rock (12), Best Reggae (3), Best Shambo (12), Best Soukous/Kwasa (9), Best Traditional (8), Best International Achiever (3) and Best Socially Responsible Artist with only (4) entries. Henceforth the next step will be the judging phase for the Judges to start judging the 570 entries that qualified. The judging commences today and the outcome of this judging process will lead to the announcement of the nominees in each category. The judging process is expected to last for 5 weeks after which nominees will be announced on a yet to be determined date following the completion of the judging process. Ekandjo also informed that the sms figures for the public voting categories have
doubled 100%. “Barely two weeks ago we had just over 3 000 sms’s received now the sms count stands at 7 822. Said Ekandjo, the song of the year category continues to the most popular category that has received the highest of votes thus far with over 2 569 votes followed by Most Disciplined Artists (1229), Entertainment DJ of the Year (837), Most Popular Artist of the Year (756), Entertainment Journalist of the Year (704), Best Live Performance (523) and Best Musical Event with only 49 votes. A total of 1 155 votes were spoiled owing to no keywords indicated on the sms’s. We urge the voting public to ensure the correct keywords and names of the artist or songs are used otherwise the sms will go to waste,” said Ekandjo.
ia, making people understand that this is the most beautiful place and it is safe.” The Ebola virus effect comes at a time when Air Namibia had started making profit of about 5 million Namibian dollar to 25 million Namibian dollar, according to Gsponer. Gsponer continued that if the company has a bad month it will be losing 50 million Namibian dollar. He said Air Namibia’s running costs are about 185 million Namibian dollar a month and that they need to be making about 200 million Namibian dollar a month. According to Gsponer, Air Namibia used to make losses of about 600 million Namibian dollars per year but they now target about 200 million Namibian dollar loss per year. (NAMPA / XINHUA)

Operators “underpaid” at Swakop Uranium Marshallino Beukes Equipment operators at Swakop Uranium's Husab mine took to the streets on Friday in Swakopmund, expressing their dissatisfaction regarding supposed unfair labour practices and discrimination at the mine.
The workers claim that they are underpaid, in comparison with other mines. They further complain of not receiving benefits like housing allowance and medical aid. According to them, employees who reside in Arandis are receiving N$1 700 for housing allowance, while those living in Swakopmund get nothing. This, according to them is discrimination and they demand equal treatment. The disgruntled group of around 50 employees fumed that they are being exploited like slaves, or like employees at Chinese shops. Criteria for recruitment at the mine are also of great concern to the workers. Grade 12 graduates apparently get preference, while employees with many years of experience are overlooked. The mine’s Management is also accused of playing a delay tactic, not to sign the Recognition and Procedural Agreement with their Union, the Mineworkers Union of Namibia (MUN). The workers demand for equal salaries,
housing allowance of N$5 000 for all employees, 100% medical aid, three months training to reach the base-line salary, inconvenience allowance, recruitment to be fair and transparent, the signing of the agreement between Husab and MUN and for the ex-employees to also be recruited. The petition was handed over to Swakop Uranium's vice president for human resources and business support, Mr Percy McCallum, who noted that the document will be studied, whereafter they will get back to the workers. An ultimatum of one week was set by the furious employees. ±200 equipment operators are currently employed at the mine. Swakop Uranium is owned by Taurus Minerals Limited of Hong Kong, which has a 90% stake in the company, and the Namibian state-owned company Epangelo (10%). Taurus is an entity owned by China General Nuclear Power Company (CGN) Uranium Resources Co Ltd and the China-Africa Development Fund.

Concern for illegal Harvesting deepens as Market Price for !Nara Seeds rises
The Market Price for !Nara seeds this year increased from N$21.50 to 22.50 per kilogram.
The price came as a result of an agreement which was reached recently between the Topnaar Traditional Authority and Desert Hills, a company that buys the seeds. Meanwhile, the illegal harvest of !Nara melons along Kuiseb River by non-concession rights holders have become a concern for the indigenous Topnaar community. The Topnaar community, living some 40km south of Walvis Bay in the Erongo Region, relies on the harvesting of the desert crop for survival. The !Nara melon is the staple food for the Topnaar community that grows mostly in the coastal area along the Kuiseb River near Walvis Bay. Seeds are eaten as snacks by the community or being sold for processing and production of cooking oil and cosmetic products. The cooked pulp from the melon is dried into what the Topnaar call #oagaribeâ, meaning !Nara chocolate or cake in Nama language. Chief of the Topnaar Traditional Authority, Seth Kooitjie, said on Friday that only the Topnaar community have concession rights to the Kuiseb Delta and the !Nara fields. He noted that any other person that need to harvest should have a legal permit from the traditional authority to do so. Kooitjie explains that although the !Nara is a natural product, it has a strong bond with the Topnaar culture, as such people cannot 'just walk in and harvest as they wish.' The chief said the issue of the illegal harvesting of the !Nara has been brought under the attention of the Ministry of Environment and Tourism (MET) as well as the Ministry of Agriculture Water and Forestry (MAWF). “When you talk of !Nara you talk of the Topnaar. A Topnaar from Kuiseb cannot just go to the north and illegally harvest natural fruits there,” he said. On a different matter, Kooitjie said plans are at an advance stage to construct a warehouse to serve as a selling point for !Nara in Utuseb village, some 40 kilometers south of Walvis Bay. He said the Erongo Regional Council has already provided 172 bags of cement to support the project. “We are just waiting for more materials and the results of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) before the construction starts. This warehouse will make it easy for our people to sell !Nara close to home instead of travelling to Walvis Bay or Swakopmund,” said the chief. Utuseb resident Paul Gariseb told Nampa on Friday that he was happy with the N$1 250 profit he made this month on the sale of the !Nara. He however, raised a concern regarding the lack of permits to sell outside Walvis and Swakopmund. Gariseb said when he and other residents go to towns such as Usakos and Karibib to sell !Nara, they are asked to produce a permit by the nature conservationist and customers. “We have been asking the chief to help us get such permits but he did not. He does not even come to Utuseb to hold meetings and explain how things work, we are just in the dark,” said Gariseb. On this, Kooitjie advised that permits are available from the MAWF office, but residents can also get an authorisation letter from his office to allow them to sell. “I do hold meetings in Utuseb to explain these things, maybe he does not attend or lives somewhere else and miss all the gatherings,” Kooitjie responded. NAMPA

Don’t overlook domestic violence Madelaine Laubscher
A local resident recently witnessed a man on the side of the road struggling with two police officers who were trying to get him into a police van and according to a member of the Walvis Bay Neighbourhood Watch, after they were notified of the location, it is allegedly a recurrent case of domestic violence. According to the eye witness she was coming from work when she saw the man begging the officers not to arrest him, but the officers allegedly replied that they
needed to ensure that the mother and children are kept safe.“I saw the commotion on the street and notified the newspaper. A man approached me
asking what I was doing, saying it was a private matter. I did not stay to see what transpired.” The eyewitness asked namib times to investigate how
often domestic violence occurs at the coast and what the outcome is. The newspaper spoke to a senior social worker in Walvis Bay who said, “domestic violence is

According to Sergeant Nangolo, a Sony laptop, two Apple I-pads, two flat screen TVs and an Apple harddrive were brought to the Kuisebmond Station after the thieves who stole the items were selling them in the street and ran away when they saw the police car approaching. “We are looking for the owners of these properties to come for-

However, this will not stop the police from going after criminals and putting them behind bars. “We are coming” concluded Sergeant Nangolo.

happening on a daily basis at the coast. It has a very bad effect on the victims as it hurts them physically as well as psychologically. In many cases I have seen victims lose a body part (eyes, ears, etc) which is quite serious,” she said. According to her, couples tend to fight with objects, causing a lot of physical harm. “Many cases are still not being reported. The families undergoing this abuse live with the false belief that it is a private matter and cannot be reported. The abuser simply apologises and after a month or so the abuse continues. Carrying out domestic violence on someone is an illness. Such a person usually acts out on their background. It is usually a person that was beaten as a child and believes that it is the only solution,” she said. She mentioned that women and children are not the only victims. “There were cases where men were also victims. We advise such couples or persons to sit down and talk about an issue. If talking does not help, include a social worker or a pastor for counselling. Do not keep quiet, because once a person has been a victim of
domestic violence, it affects him/her emotionally and usually has lifelong effects,” she concluded. According to Domestic Violence Roundtable, this sort of abuse can either be physical, sexual, emotional or a combination of all three. It includes beatings, forced sexual activity or it can take the form of less severe acts like throwing, shoving and slapping. The abuser constantly humiliates and victimises the victim. The weapons of emotional abuse include verbal insults, threats, control of physical activity, unfounded accusations of infidelity, control of economic decisions and social isolation. No matter how often the abuse happens, a victim of domestic violence suffers constant terror and stress, living in fear of the next episode. An anonymous source told the newspaper that the effects domestic violence has on a person can be irreversible. “Nowadays many people overlook domestic violence as if it is something customary happening at the coast, but the effects it has on an individual are overwhelming and longterm. Not only was I a victim, but I also witnessed it in my home being carried
out on a member of my family. I kept quiet for years - I was later diagnosed with Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD) because of it. The doctor told me the disorder is life-long, but that it is not my fault for suffering this disorder, but the abuser’s fault. However I realised that it was my responsibility to speak out otherwise nothing would have changed. I remember as a child I was too scared to go to the bathroom alone, bed wetting, fearing people, blaming myself, believing I was not good enough, and today I find it hard to trust anyone, just to mention a few. I overcame most of these as I reached adulthood. I can vouch that keeping quiet only results in more emotional stress and it is not worth it. You can change the situation, but you need to seek help outside the family circle. No one else can do it for you. There is no point in crying or complaining over something only you can change, but taking no action. You are not the first to be in such a situation.
Ondersoeke duur voort.

Obtaining Fishing
Permits
Obtain a permit from the Namibian Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources (MFMR) to catch fish or dive for crayfish and respect harvesting limitations. WHY? The marine resources are limited and currently some of them are overfished or over collected. It is necessary that everybody uses them wisely and carefully to secure the future harvesting needs by protecting the stock. Quantity/number of marine resources harvestable, minimum size limits of fish and crayfish that can be caught, open season etc. help to manage stocks to avoid the total disappearance of some species in our waters. Do not leave bait or fish on the beach! Either take it home or return it to the sea. This food attracts scavengers like jackals and gulls that prey on other bio-diversity. When you are back home after the holiday, it also inflates the predator population. Where can you get a license for angling, crayfish diving & bait/mussels collection?

The municipal truck after it broke down in 5th Street East, with more skid marks next to the empty refuse bin in the foreground
Prevention is better than cure Bernabé Blaauw
A Meersig resident contacted the newspaper recently when he observed the strange behaviour of the driver of a municipal refuse compactor truck. He was under the impression that the driver deliberately tried to damage the vehicle with his aggressive driving style which, according to him, was tantamount to abuse of municipal property. The truck (N17350WB) was busy emptying refuse bins in Walvis Bay’s Meersig residential area and skid marks were found next to virtually every refuse bin in an area that stretched over several streets off Mandume Ndemufayo
Circle. After following the skid marks, the truck was finally traced in 5th Street East where it broke down. An attempt by the driver to start the truck again only produced a belch of black smoke
and it was immediately turned off again. A spokesperson of the Municipality of Walvis Bay confirmed that the incident was not reported to the person in charge of the solid waste section, but that the matter was investi-
gated after the enquiry from namib times. It was also confirmed that the truck’s brakes were repaired recently and the driver claimed that the brakes were still not working properly, hence the skid marks on the road surface.

To the ministry of education It’s with a heavy heart that I write this letter to the namib times but as a loyal, dedicated teacher I see nowhere else to turn to, to shed light on this matter. Teachers and civil servants are paid on the 20th of every month, but unfortunately many civil servants did not receive their salaries on the 20th of January 2015. The Ministry of Education sent a fax to the schools and on the 19th of January we were only informed that the teachers are still receiving their payments via cheque and that they will only be paid as from the 25th of January. When we phoned to enquire about this matter, we were simply told that the persons responsible for submitting the requests for the January cheques simply forgot to do so. So many civil servants had to go without the pay that they relied upon while others received their payments via the banks.
So many of us have to worry about where we will get money to survive, for food and fuel, because how are we to go to our workplaces if we do not have any money? How are we to survive and stand in front of a class on an empty stomach, with financial issues, and to top it all off, burdening landlords seeking for their rent payments and debit orders for our cars, insurance policies, children school fees and medical bills? There are some parents that really do empathise with us civil servants, but parents and comrades need to hear what we are going through.
Some of us are working for so long we are not even getting our full salaries. When we phone the regional office we simply get an answer like, people who are working with these things are on lunch - or on Fridays after two, the phones just ring with no answer. All that we are asking, is to get the treatment that we all deserve equally and justifiable, and the money that we deserve and work hard for every day. Working with other people’s children is not as easy as pie. Kind regards

Triumphant College visits the coast Madelaine Laubscher
Four lecturers from Triumphant College, which is based in Windhoek, visited the coast last week on a follow-up mission in marketing the college to potential students in the coast. The lecturers were Mr Roger Toga, Miss Bianca Moonde and Mr Magic Badza along with Miss Hannah Tarindwa, who is also the spokesperson. “This was the second trip to the coast. It was a follow up on the potential students that may want to receive tertiary education now that the Grade 10 and Grade 12 results are out. We gave potential students and their parents time to
look through the possible courses we offer along with engineering schools. This time around it was a matter of answering questions that may have risen since our last visit,” she said. She added that she was happy to see that there were a considerable number of people whom the team had not met on the last visit, but who had heard of the college and
had shown interest in applying for the college. The team visited Walvis Bay, Swakopmund and Henties Bay where interested candidates were able to fill out registration forms. The team left their prospectus with various distribution agents in Karibib and Usakos. According to Miss Tarindwa she noted that there were already a number of Triumphant college students who were
coming in from the coastal region of Namibia. Mr Badza commented that the engineering school has a substantial number of students. “It was a pleasant experience during the course of our marketing efforts to meet our past students, who are now in industry and doing very well,” he said. Mr Toga, the team leader, said it shows that the col-
Triumphant college sign board at their premises in Windhoek lege is producing a good standard of educated individuals who are contributing positively to their families, communities and subsequently to the growth of the nation in terms of a capable and well-trained workforce. Miss Tarindwa reiterated that even those who did not manage to get 18 points at Grade 12 or only have their Grade 10 certificates, should not despair
or give up on furthering their studies as the college offers a six-month foundation course to help these students to be able to continue with their program of choice. She also mentioned that other than the full time tuition offered by the college in its branches in Windhoek, Rundu, Katima Mulilo and Tsumeb, there are options such as part-time attendance or long distance learning
offered, particularly for those who are working. “Those who may not have met with the team on our second visit of marketing can still go online to the college’s website to register. However, they must do so as soon as possible, namely before the beginning of February, as space is limited and the college will be commencing classes on 16 February.”
Jahcoh brings the Gospel Ongelukkig oor through music onsigbare padtekens Madeleine Laubscher Jahcoh Mushongo (30), based in Narraville, has been dreaming about singing Gospel music since his childhood and today he has two albums and one DVD available in stores. According to Jahcoh he started singing in church and the members felt that he could go a lot further. He started recording professionally and currently has three albums, namely ‘The day of my Lord’, ‘Tengura’, meaning ‘come back to God’, and the
DVD, ‘The best of Jahcoh Mushongo’. “I am recording at Blade. I sing, play the piano and also compose my own songs. I would love to bring people closer to God through music,” he said. When asked what advice he has for younger artists,
Jahcoh Mushongo ready for success he said, “it is not an easy road. Hold on and believe in the vision God gave you. You definitely need God’s guidance to succeed. Never give up on the dream.” He mentioned that one of his dreams was to see more people turn to God
through Gospel music. “The Gospel industry is not very big in Namibia. I would love to see it expand. I can also be found on Facebook.” He will possibly have another album ready by the end of the year.
“Hi, long time.

Screen Actors Guild Awards - “Birdman” shines again Solidifying its status as an awards season contender, “Bird-man” nabbed the top prize at the 21st annual Screen Actors Guild awards, winning best cast in a film. “Actors love this film,” admitted “Birdman” star Michael Keaton backstage at the Shrine Auditorium. ence when they were 14 years old to enter your orbit,” Redmayne said. “Thank you for reminding me of the overwhelming power of the will to love and the will to live every second of your life as fully and as passionately as possible.” Redmayne won over Keaton in “Birdman,” Benedict Cumberbatch as codebreaker Alan Turing in “The Imitation Game,” Steve Carell as John du Pont in “Foxcatcher” and Jake Gyllenhaal as a videographer in “Nightcrawler.” Moore won over Jennifer Aniston for “Cake,” Felicity Jones for “The Theory of Everything,” Rosamund Pike for “Gone Girl” and Reese Witherspoon for “Wild.” She won the Golden Globe two weeks ago and is the favourite for the Oscar. “It’s hard not to think about when people keep bringing it up,” she said backstage when asked about her front-runner status. SAG winners have a strong record as an Oscar predictor in the individual acting categories. The last 10 winners of the SAG best actor award have gone on to win the Oscar, including Matthew McConaughey last year for “Dallas Buyers Club.” The cast of “Downton Abbey” took home the prize for best ensemble in a drama series for the second time in three years. The final season of “Breaking Bad” won last year. Viola Davis nabbed the best actress in a drama series award for “How to Get Away With Murder,” while Kevin Spacey won best actor in a drama series

The story of actors putting on a Broadway play won the ensemble award over “Boyhood,” “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” “The Imitation Game” and “The Theory of Everything.” It was a big weekend for “Birdman,” which moved into front-runner status with its SAG win, combined with the Darryl F. Zanuck award for best picture from the Producers Guild of America on Saturday night. The winner of the SAG ensemble trophy has matched the Oscar best picture winner just nine times in 19 years, and last year “American Hustle” won the SAG cast award and was shut out at the Oscars. “Argo” won both awards two years ago. Fox Searchlight-New Regency’s “Birdman” fulfilled forecasts that it would resonate with the performers union members. Directed by Alejandro Gozalez Inarritu, “Birdman” was shot from the point of view of the actor, played by Keaton. “Birdman” also stars Edward Norton, Emma Stone, Naomi Watts, Zach Galifianakis and Amy Ryan. “Actors understand better than anyone how connected you are with one another,” Watts said backstage. Julianne Moore won the best actress in a film award for “Still Alice,” playing a professor suffering from early-onset Alzheimer’s while Eddie Redmayne won best actor in a film for “The Theory of Everything,”portraying theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking. “Thank you for allowing someone who gave up sci-

The cast from “Birdman” hold their award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture at the 21st Annual Screen Actor’s Guild Awards in Los Angeles, California on Sunday for “House of Cards.” Davis won the best actress SAG Award for “The Help” three years ago, then lost out on the Oscar to Meryl Streep for “The Iron Lady.” She said backstage that the viewing public is hungry for truthful depictions of females. “We don’t want to keep seeing these fictionalised versions of women,” Davis said. Frances McDormand won best actress in a TV movie or miniseries for “Olive Kitteridge,” and Mark Ruffalo took home the prize for male actor in a TV movie or miniseries for HBO’s “The Normal Heart.” Ruffalo, along with Spacey, was a no-show to the ceremony. McDormand portrayed a retired schoolteacher in “Olive Kitteridge.” The award came 18 years after she took the SAG award and the Oscar for her portrayal of pregnant police chief Marge Gunderson in “Fargo.” In the middle of the show, Debbie Reynolds was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by her daughter Carrie Fisher. “One of my favorite movies was ‘The Unsinkable Molly Brown’ and there’s a song, ‘I Ain’t Down Yet.’ Well, I ain’t,” Reynolds concluded her acceptance speech. J.K. Simmons won best
supporting actor for “Whiplash,” while Patricia Arquette nabbed supporting actress for “Boyhood.” Both won the Golden Globe two weeks ago. “Each of us is completely crucial to the story,” Simmons said during his speech. “I would like thank the 49 actors who appear in ‘Whiplash.’” Arquette, whose father was the late actor Lewis Arquette, acknowledged her family. “I can’t tell you what this means to me,” she said. “I’m a fourth-generation actor. My family have been committed actors for over a century, through feast or famine.” The cast of “Orange is the New Black” won best ensemble in a comedy TV series. “Modern Family” had won the comedy ensemble trophy for four consecutive years before Netflix’s “Orange is the New Black” broke the streak. William H. Village Seniors treated Sharlien Tjambari During the past holidays, young and vibrant villagers of Ondjeombaranga village, situated some thirty kilometres out of Karibib on the Otjimbingwe road, hosted a festive lunch for the elders.
The youngsters invited all the elder villagers in Ondjeombaranga to come and spent some time together and have a chat with their neighbours as they hardly
get time to visit each other. The food they cooked for the old pepople was bought with the money that the villagers put together to show the love and
appreciation towards their elders. The elders were treated with sweats and a nice, healthy meal. There was also a raffle draw and they all received presents ac-
cording to what they drew. The main organiser of the lunch was Ms Isabella Kavendjii.
