Triplets born at Swakopmund Sharlien Tjambari

Meme Taimi Ekandjo gave birth to triplets, two girls and a boy, on Sunday at noon. Taimi is 34 years old and resident at Arandis. Taimi already had three children before her triplets who she says are all in school, adding the total to six children now. During an interview with namib times Taimi said she is very excited to be the mother of three beautiful children and thanked God for giving her triplets. Continues on Page 2

Police officer latest suicide victim at coast Sharlien Tjambari

A police officer committed suicide at around 13:20 in Swakopmund on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Sergeant Daniel Akawa. He hung himself at his home in Mondesa he shared with his girlfriend. According to Chief Inspector Erastus Iikuyu of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in Erongo Region, no suicide note was left. Marine Phosphate Mining the confusion deepens..... Erwin Leuschner

Who exactly is the competent authority to issue an environmental clearance for mining activities in the seabed off the Namibian coast? This is just one question on a long list that has once again cropped up after the Environmental Commissioner recently issued an Environmental Clearance for Namibia Marine Phosphate (NMP). “There are so many questions and so few answers. Marine phosphate mining remains a grey area and we simply do not know enough to say with utter certainty if it will indeed have an impact or not and what exactly this impact will be.” This was said by a marine scientist yesterday in an interview with namib times. The scientist, who wishes to remain anonymous, responded to queries after NMP got the green light to start mining activities. One main point of uncertainty is the question whether the original 18months long moratorium to prohibit such activities, which expired in March 2015, is still in place or not. “Yes, of course it is.
