Some 3 000 people in Erongo vaccinated Close to three thousand people in Erongo Region received their Covid-19 vaccinations to date, according to the latest statistics released by the Ministry of Health and Social Services. That represents approximately 15 % of people vaccinated across the country (some 20 000 people were vaccinated so far across the country in all fourteen Regions). Wednesday’s Covid-19 update by the Ministry on Wednesday stated 2 529 people in Erongo received the first vaccination and 227 people have already received the second (final) vaccine. According to the report, only the AstraZeneca and Sinopharm vaccines were administered. In this same update, the health Minister Dr. Kalumbi Shangula urged Namibians to get their Covid-19 vaccinations, both for own protection and protection of fellow countrymen.

Massive Blue Whale carcass washes ashore First ever recorded case of a Blue Whale washing ashore on African coastline The first ever recorded stranding of a Blue Whale on the African coastline was recorded earlier this week at Dolphin Beach near Walvis Bay. A guide of Laramon Tours, Jonathan Morgan, spotted the 18 metres long carcass of the whale floating near the shoreline at Dolphin Beach on Monday of this week. He reported it to the Namibian Dolphin Project. It is a very rare occasion to spot Blue Whales in Namibian waters, and according to records this is actually the first Blue Whale stranding to be recorded on the African coastline. The Namibian Dolphin Project regularly studies and takes samples of stranded whales and dolphins, and said it is the largest marine mammal they handled to date. Continues on page 2
