Nampol in the Erongo region have recovered another three cars and arrested two more suspects that are assumingly part of the syndicate involved in the theft of the 14 cars from Jan Japan Motors CC on Wednesday night. They are to appear in court today. The two suspects were apprehended between six and eight at night. One car was found in town, while the other two cars were discovered in Kuisebmond, along with the suspects. According to Nampol Detective Chief Inspector Erastus Iikuyu the suspects who were arrested last night are nót employed at Jan Japan Motors. He explained the syndi-
cate’s modus operandi. “Suspects are stealing the cars and hiding them in Kuisebmond to see if someone will notice that they are missing and sell the cars once they find out nobody realises that they are missing. But the theft scam was detected.” Iikuyu said that all the documents with which the cars are imported are original and if
someone manages to get their hands on the documents, together with the car keys before cars are logged in the system, they can easily register the cars with Natis and sell them. He added that the police are in the process of confiscating all the stolen cars and warned the public to follow the right procedures in purchasing a motor vehicle. Continues on page 2

In line with the theme of World Migratory Bird Day 2015, “Energy Make it bird-friendly”, NamPower is set to mark a key section of the new Walvis Bay-Kuiseb power line as a mitigation against collisions of wetland birds. These include Red Data intra-African migrant species such as the charismatic Lesser Flamingo and Greater Flamingo. This year on 9-10 May 2015, World Migratory Bird Day aims to highlight the importance of applying energy technologies that will prevent, minimise and mitigate the impact on migratory birds and their habitats (www.worldmigratorybirdday.org). The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the construction of the new Walvis Bay-Kuiseb power line has highlighted 4 km of the route in the area known as Bird Paradise as having a high potential bird collision risk. Apart from the two flamingo species, other Red Listed aquatic bird species of concern in terms of collisions in this area include Great White Pelican, Black Stork, Caspian Tern, Hartlaub’s Gull and Maccoa Duck – all nomadic species. Other non-Red Listed species could also be at risk. NamPower has undertaken to mitigate this stretch of the line, using a combination of marking devices (alternating double loop bird flight diverters [BFDs] and “flag” bird flight diverters) to make the lines more visible. The latter is a relatively new mitigation device with contrasting black and white components (the latter phosphorescent) that move with the wind, increasing visibility especially under conditions of poor light. The marking design is experimental, and set up in such a way that scientific comparisons will be
possible between sections marked with the above two types of markers, and comparable non-marked sections. The new Walvis BayKuiseb power line is routed eastwards from the Walvis Bay Substation and north of the Walvis Bay sewage ponds, near Bird Paradise. It will consist of two parallel 132 kV structures each with 24 m high steel monopoles, both running parallel to the existing lower double wooden pole 66 kV line. These lines will follow the C14 road up to the intersection with the C34 road and then run eastwards to the Kuiseb Substation. The line is due to be completed in mid-2015. Walvis Bay is closely associated with several Important bird Areas (IBAs). The Walvis Bay Wetlands (Lagoon) in the south is an IBA and also a coastal Ramsar Site. It is regarded as the most important coastal wetland in the southern Sub-region and one of the most important coastal wetlands in Africa. The water-bird life in this area is prolific and includes 35 Red Listed species, a number of endemic and near-endemic and also of migrants and nomadic species. Regular monitoring of this section of line will be essential, and the NamPower/Namibia Nature Foundation Strategic Partnership has already been conducting baseline surveys, before the construction of the new line.

After a period of silence, regarding shack fires in Swakopmund, three informal dwellings again burnt down early Wednesday morning. The incident occurred at Meduletu Street 0141, in the town’s DRC informal settlement. The Fire Brigade received the emergency call at around 08:00 the morning and rushed to the scene. On arrival at the inferno scene, they noticed that three informal dwellings were engulfed in flames, Chief Adri Goosen said.
They immediately started to extinguish and control the flames, and by doing so, saving the neighbouring structures. The blaze was successfully controlled and extinguished. The shack where the fire supposedly started, belonged to Mr Absolom Basilio, owner of Isak Moto Engineering, who was not at home when the fire
broke out. Bystanders on the scene noted that none of the three shacks’ owners were at home when the inferno occurred. All the doors were locked from the outside. Luckily nobody were injured and the cause of the fire is subject to a police investigation, as arson is suspected.

All mortalities are recorded and entered into a central data base, as a basis for future mitigation decisions. Mitigation is an ongoing experimental process, in order to test and find the best marking methods. Existing lines in the area that have been marked in a similar way are the Lithops-Walmund line, at the Swakop River crossing and eastwards. This line is also being monitored. New lines have also been marked in other areas of the country, according to the recommendations of EIAs. The NamPower/Namibia Nature Foundation Strategic Partnership was launched in 2008 in order to address wildlife and power line interactions in Namibia. Management decisions need to be based on good data, and the Partnership is busy collating records of wildlife and power line incidents. Migrant and/or nomadic bird species have been involved in the greater part of these incidents to date, chiefly bustards (more than 50% of the incidents, and up to 75% in the south) and flamingos (around 25%), both mainly in collisions with power line structures. Flamingos especially are prone to collisions due to their habit of flying low at times and at night or in poor light, in groups. Bustards are large and heavy, with limited manoeuvring and limited by a “blind spot” when flying forward.
Tots with Tins against Cancer Liesl Losper
History was made in Walvis Bay when 29 toddlers, together with their teacher, decided to generate funds in aid of the Cancer Association of Namibia (CAN). Teacher, Suzette Cloete of Busy Tots pre-primary school in Narraville, Walvis Bay, went on a collection spree in order to raise funds for this worthy cause. The energetic toddlers were each handed a tin and sent into the adult world to try and convince people to open their hearts and pockets for a good cause. They operated in the Shoprite and Pick n Pay Malls and managed to collect a total of N$4 567.48 with the help and supervision of their teacher and the willing
and supportive parents. The day was a humongous success and Ms Suzette Cloete would like to thank the parents who helped with transport and supervision, as well as the general public for their ample donations. A special word of thanks went out to Mr Andre of Benguella Ship Chandlers for sponsoring water.
China Harbour Engineering Ltd. (CHEC), an international contractor that is a subsidiary of China Communications Construction Company Ltd, donated N$20 000 earlier the week to the Trust as part of their social responsibility to the community. Chen Yong Qiang, Deputy Manager for CHEC, said “We met Gabriela and her team a year ago and since then she assisted us with site emergencies, evacuation and drill exercises. Therefore, we decided to do this donation to say thank you for their sacrifices they make to the community.” St Gabriel Community Ambulance Trust was founded by Gabriela Teleman to fill the gap between State Ambulance and Private Service Ambulance in order to provide superior professional emergency medical rescue service to the community. “CHEC has been very good to us the past year.
As a non-profit organisation, with no substantial support from government or medical aids, gestures like these are so welcome. At this stage we have five ambulances and one response vehicle. Our base in Arandis has one ambulance. One of the ambulances has a broken siren. And this means it had to be replaced because the siren is also an important part to the service, you cannot go out on a call if it is not working. It costs nearly N$41 000 p/month to keep ambulances in good condition, and we pay that out of our own pockets.” Gabriela informed the namib times. The newspaper wanted to
Chen Yong Qiang from CHEC handing over the cheque to Gabriela Teleman from St Gabriels Comunity Ambulance Trust Services know from Gabriela, how she manages to do this without financial support, and being present on 9 out of 10 accident scenes. She answered, “Our patients have no name or insurance, they only have pain and illness and they need immediate care. Our funds come from projects, like First Aid Training and also if one wants to pay for the service after he or she has been assisted. We do not ask for medical aid info on an emergency scene, there is no time when a life is involved. We also want the public and the businesses to realize that we are a non-profit organisation. We have fuel costs and wear-and-tear
costs on our ambulances daily, not to mention the salaries, this is also for the trust’s cost. We must also mention, companies like Hydroweld, Iveco Walvis Bay and Erongo Auto Electrical that make it a bit easier with regard to our ambulances’ shortcomings” St Gabriel’s Emergency Care Practitioners have to be prepared 24/7 for any situation, from lifethreatening diseases to disaster relief and emergency situations. They have proven that they give superior and professional emergency medical rescue service to the Community of Walvis Bay.

Namibia Music Awards in crossfire - Namibia, SA discuss strengthening Marshallino Beukes VIPs only? relationship
Namibian President, Hage Geingob, says his one-day visit to South Africa on Wednesday was to introduce himself and inform South African President Jacob Zuma that he is available for engagements.

(Photo by: Paulus Kiiyala Shiku) NAMPA) Last weekend marked the 5th annual Namibia Music Awards, which is one of the most prestigious events on the country's entertainment calendar. However, some regular ticket holders were not pleased with the way they were allegedly treated at the occasion. According to one of the disgruntled ticket holders, they had to enter from a back door, and had to line-up in a queue in the cold for more than one hour. The complainant further stressed that their safety was also in jeopardy, as vehicles brusquely forced their way through the people standing in the line. The use of “stinky, unstable portable toilets outside of the hall” also enraged and disgusted the complainants.
Concerns were also raised regarding the steel bars, separating regular ticket holders and VIP ticket holders. The disgruntled people say this made them feel like “lesser people.” The namib times contacted Mr John Ekongo, the Chief Corporate Communications Practitioner at Mobile Telecommunications Ltd to get response on these grievances. According to him, the NAMAs event is one for all Namibians, irrespective
of status and that their resolve remains that this event is an integral part of each and every Namibian. “Pursuant to the concerns raised, we take note of them – and would reassure the public that top of mind is always the convenience and comfort for the attendants – which we had adequately put in place,” Ekongo remarked. He further expressed his apologies, if for any reason this comfort did not meet the public's ex-
A statement from the president's office says the presidents, who met at Zuma's official residence in Cape Town, discussed ways of strengthening the relationship between the two countries. Furthermore, the visit offered Geingob, who was inaugurated on March 21, an opportunity to introduce himself as president of Namibia and to inform Zuma of his availability and openness to engage in consultations on ways in which Namibia and South Africa can move forward, especially economically. "Even though Namibia's economy is small compared to South Africa, Namibia remains an important partner to South Africa," Geingob said, adding that it is important that the two countries move forward in unison towards greater economic development. The two presidents also discussed ways of taking advantage of the SADC drive towards industrialization as discussed at the extraordinary summit held in Harare, Zimbabwe last week. President Geingob will tomorrow lead a Namibian delegation to the African Union (AU) Committee of Ten (C-10) Summit in Livingstone, Zambia. The Summit will be preceded by a Joint Ministerial and Permanent Representatives meeting today.
pectations. “We can only improve with your help and most humble of suggestions such as this one,” Ekongo said. “After having delivered a sterling NAMAs 2014, we knew that we needed to maintain the standard or improve it and we decided to improve it against all odds to be the best amongst the best in Africa and the world, and we have achieved that with flying colours. We would therefore like to confidently declare the 2015 NAMAs as a resounding success,” he concluded.
The president will be accompanied by Honourable Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of International Relations and Cooperation (MIRCO), together with Senior Officials from MIRCO. The Committee of 10 was established by the AU in 2005 in order to promote and defend Africa's common position on the reform of the United Nations' Security Council. The Summit is expected to discuss Reports on consultations that have been taking place to galvanise support for the African Common Position on the Reform of the UN Security Council as outlined in the Ezulwini Consensus and Sirte Declaration. The position of Africa is to secure two permanent seats on the UN Security Council. Meanwhile, the President has sent his best wishes to the Baster community, whose Sam Khubis Festival will reach its climax today. A special invitation was sent to the president after some controversy surrounded his possible attendance. By late yesterday, it was still not known whether the President would attend before he left for Zambia. He indicated earlier that he might send his vicepresident to attend the celebrations on his behalf. (Additional reporting - NAMPA)

“Kidnapping victims,” allegedly not so innocent Madelaine Laubscher
The namib times has learnt that the same children involved in the Logan Pretorius kidnapping case have allegedly stolen another two Pittbulls recently. Logan Pretorius (26), along with Sandra Riobo (18), Andre Ashley Januarie (21) and Curven Nathan Vries (21) were arrested last year for allegedly kidnapping and torturing three minors, after the minors had apparently attempted to steal Pretorius’s dogs. Pretorius alleged that the children strangled one of his dogs to death. The children’s statements however stated that Pretorius kidnapped and tortured them after they simply walked past his house, looking at his dogs. As the court case proceeded, evidence was heard that the children allegedly admitted that they were sent by two people to steal Pretorius’s dogs, namely “Plaatjies and Zuma”. In later proceedings, the newspaper was informed by a relative of Pretorius of another two dog theft incidents that ocurred recently, allegedly involving the same children. “My boyfriend (Logan’s nephew) and I own a Pittbul named Tiger that was stolen approximately
two weeks ago. He reported it to the police - OB 1240/04/2015. While I asked people to be on the lookout for Tiger, I asked one of the children involved in Logan’s case if he had not seen Tiger. I showed him a photo of Tiger. He said he had seen the other two children (involved in Logan’s case) with Tiger in a park fighting with another dog. He agreed to take me to them. They knew exactly where Tiger was and admitted to me that they had taken Tiger. They indicated that it was at Mr Wayne Plaatjies’s (20) house, a relative of one of the children,” she said. According to her, when she arrived at Mr Plaatjies’s house, she told Plaatjies that she wanted Tiger back. “He said I must first pay him N$800 for my dog. I refused and went to the police who then went with me to his house. When we arrived, he said I do not have to give him the money. He said I can take Tiger and he will pay the person he got Tiger from, with a mobile
phone,” she said. Another source told the newspaper that the children allegedly admitted that Wayne Plaatjies had sent them to steal Pretorius’s dogs last year before Pretorius’s arrest. “While Logan’s case was underway, the children admitted that they had been sent by Wayne and another person to steal Logan’s dogs. Now they have admitted to have stolen Tiger as well, because the girl who went with them to Wayne’s house said she would pay them N$500 if they told her where the dog was,” the source said. According to this source, the police allegedly did not reprimand Wayne for having a dog reported as stolen. “Tiger is home now, but what puzzles me is the fact that the police did nothing. These children alleged they were victims of kidnapping and torture. However, here we are again, Tiger was stolen, and they admitted that they stole Tiger. The dog ended up at Wayne’s house, yet the matter is not

being investigated. Logan and his friends have been accused of torturing these children. The public thinks these children are innocent and that Logan is seen as the bad guy. Yet, these children stole Logan’s cousin’s dog recently, after they said Plaatjies and Zuma had sent them to steal Logan’s dogs the first time. Are they really innocent and why has Plaatjies never been questioned by the police, or has he, because the children claimed that he sent them? That is my question to the police,” the source said. The newspaper spoke to Plaatjies about the allegations against him and the children. He visited the namib times' office and was asked how Tiger ended up at his house. While in the process of explaining why he had Tiger, he received a phone call. After the phone call, he said that all questions should be e-mailed to his lawyer. When asked what the name of his lawyer is, he replied “Marco.” He left the offices thereafter.
return my dog or else I will involve the police. Soon thereafter he contacted me and said I could come to fetch my dog. I went to the child’s house where I found my dog,” the source said. The newspaper spoke to Inspector Iikuyu about what had ocurred and asked if the matter is being investigated. “It is a very sensitive issue. The owner of the dog should have laid an official charge with a CR number. However, we are only aware of a report about a missing dog,” he said. According to a relative of Pretorius, the kidnapping case was handed over to the Prosecuter General.
We at namib times were informed of two incidents that allegedly ocurred recently, where criminals, armed with pangas, targeted houses in Walvis Bay and stole what they could.

He was at my lawyer at the time.” The newspaper requested from Mr Plaatjies that his lawyer’s name be provided. However Plaatjies returned to our offices later and said he will speak for himself without his father or lawyer. “The dog ended at my place, because I was on my way back from a hairdresser when I saw two men in their early twenties walking in the street with the dog, after I found out that people are looking for this specific dog. I told them the dog belongs to my friend and I wanted to return the dog to them. They said I must pay them N$1 300 of which I said it was too much and they requested N$800. I agreed and took the dog. I informed the owner of the dog that I had the dog with me,” Plaatjies said. When he was asked how
pects appeared in the Omaruru Magistrate’s court where they were denied bail and remanded into custody, while further investigations are being conducted.
“People must be aware of what happened. The first attack ocurred at 19:30 in the vicinity of the Duneside School. An attacker without a shirt, armed with a panga, tried to enter a house. On being confronted by the owner of the house, the attacker challenged the owner to open the door and come out. The owner saw three other persons (also with pangas) standing a few feet away near the boundary wall. The owner went back into the house to fetched his gun.
Upon hearing the clicking sound of the gun, they disapeared,” he said. According to the source, that same night the same gang attacked another house in Narraville. “They broke the glass of the garden door with a panga and entered the premises. They stole what they could,” he said. The newspaper spoke to a member of the Walvis Bay Reaction Team about these incidents. “It ocurred approximately two weeks ago. The culprits are still at large,” she said. According to the source,
the matter was reported to the police. “Residents must not leave their doors open. If they see suspecting people they must try and take pictures and give them to the police. They must also contact the Walvis Bay Reaction Team at 081 558 1323 immediately if they suspect any danger.” The matter was reported to Police. Residents must not open the doors without having a look at the persons outside. Residents must try and take pictures and send them to the Police and namib times.
Bail extension for 17-yearold accused of rape Madelaine Laubscher
A 17 year old, accused of raping younger boys earlier this year, appeared in the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s court on Wednesday and the case was postponed to 10 June for screening and further investigation. Magistrate Vicky Nicolaidis instructed that his bail be extended to 10 June, and prohibited any contact between him and any state witness. The accused was allegedly seen touching younger boys indecently while he was assisiting with rugby practice for minors. In a previous article the namib times quoted a trusted source, claiming one of the minors allegedly saw the accused telling the boys to pull down their pants and then indecently touched their private parts.
According to Nampol Deputy Commissioner Otillie Kashuupulwa he was accused of rape and was released on N$4 000 bail after his first court appearance. The newspaper does not have the jurisdiction to reveal the accused’s name as he is under 18. In a previous event the newspaper wanted to speak to the accused’s parents for comment, however according to a spokesperson, the parents did not want to give any comment.

Obtaining Fishing
Permits
Obtain a permit from the Namibian Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources (MFMR) to catch fish or dive for crayfish and respect harvesting limitations. WHY? The marine resources are limited and currently some of them are overfished or over collected. It is necessary that everybody uses them wisely and carefully to secure the future harvesting needs by protecting the stock. Quantity/number of marine resources harvestable, minimum size limits of fish and crayfish that can be caught, open season etc. help to manage stocks to avoid the total disappearance of some species in our waters. Do not leave bait or fish on the beach! Either take it home or return it to the sea. This food attracts scavengers like jackals and gulls that prey on other bio-diversity. When you are back home after the holiday, it also inflates the predator population. Where can you get a license for angling, crayfish diving & bait/mussels collection?

Nou moet jy 'n dik beursie hê. Jy moet gedurig hoor hoe duur ander se kinders se karre is of met watse CEO’s daar gepraat is as daar 'n klagte was oor swak diens. So sit en dink ek dan…
Beswaarde leser
To all concerned
I really like to thank NHE for the housing provision in Kuisebmond - excellent! Would like to know from the municipality of Walvis Bay when was the approval done for a Suburb Truck port? Should the residents get hurt first before the trucks are removed? What are the plans for naming the streets or building (Sic) speed humps? We encounter on a daily basis drivers testing their cars’ speed in this area where at times kids are playing in the streets.
Taxi and some residents were so inhuman and insulted the efforts of concerned residents who came together to try stop the speeding drivers, by lying ropes across the streets (illegal) - but at least the gesture helped. WHAT IS HAPENNING? FOR HOW LONG SHOULD WE BE CONTENT ABOUT ISSUES THAT ARE OF CONCERN?

Epango Group project launched Sharlien Tjambari
The Epango Group is a charitable, voluntary support, non-profit and care group with a noble mission of assisting the well-being of vulnerable children, the less-fortunate and elderly people within and around Erongo region. Epango group launched the “Hugs-In-A -Blanket’’ project on Thursday, 30 April at Hotel Deutsches Haus. “We recently found out that most vulnerable children in Swakopmund, especially in DRC are currently surviving on one blanket only during the cold winter seasons. The power of a blanket is undeniable, this is why we have come up with this project” says Ms Ratonda M Katjivikua, the leader of the group. According to Ms Katjivikua, project “Hugs-in-aBlanket” signifies warmth, compassion and hope. In his speech at the launch, the Governor of Erongo region, Cleophas Mutjavikua, said he wants the Epango Group to expand to other towns in Erongo region and not just help the people living in Swakopmund, but help those in Usakos, Karibib and Omaruru districts as well. The main objective of the group is to cater for the needs of the most vulnerable and less fortunate in society, such as senior citizens, women and children. Most of their projects are financed by monthly fixed contributions by the members, and about 20% are sponsored by organisations, said Ms Katjivikua. Another project of Epango is the Soup Kitchen in DRC, which has been running for three years now and has been feeding more than 300 deprived children at any occasion. And then there’s also the Swakopmund Senior Citizen Day which is an annual event, which, on average is attended by about 250 senior citizens. The Epango group aims to donate 500 blankets this winter and has enlarged this target by 15% a year, as awareness and support for the growth of the project. Ms Katjivikua says, 500 blankets have been ordered and can be bought and donated, of which the first 100 blankets will be sponsored by the group. is why we are requesting the public and corporate fraternity to make this dream a reality” concluded Ms Katjivikua.

HIV/Aids Campaign: Stop discrimination Being HIV positive in Namibia is a challenge on its own - people knowing about your status is another - but discrimination and stigma are the most painful things that one can endure. Discrimination and stigma are diseases of their own and can go beyond harming your health – it can kill your inner being. The rights of people living with HIV are often violated because of their presumed or known HIV status, causing them to suffer both the burden of the disease and the consequential loss of other rights. Stigmatisation and discrimination may obstruct their access to treatment and may affect their employment, housing and other rights. This, in turn, contributes to vulnerability of others to infection, since HIV-related stigma and discrimination discourages individuals infected with and affected by HIV, from contacting health and social services. The result is that those most needing information, education and counselling will not benefit, even where such services are available. A lot of the youth are unaware of their status but tend to discriminate and point fingers at others. Once you find out that you are HIV positive, you experience a lot of challenges. The fear of going to collect the anti-retroviral (ARV’s) at the clinic is one of the challenges, as most people do not like to be seen in that room. They think that once you enter that room, everybody will know what you are there for. Somehow we, the youth, feel that there is no privacy when it comes to your status, because of the setup at hospitals and clinics. Individuals also find it very hard to share
their status with loved ones - you never know what to expect from your friends and family. We all know how judgemental our families can be, there is always a number of questions behind everything you tell them. Now, imagine what type of questions they will ask you, once they find out you are HIV positive. So, who is ready to sit down and answer a pile of questions while you know you might die soon. Some might even disown you, telling you that you are a disgrace to the family. A lot of women prefer not to tell their partners about their status, because in most cases, all the blame will be laid on them. Guys hardly go for testing and they are never aware of when and where they might have picked up the virus, and the moment they find out the girl is positive, the only thing that comes to their mind is “you are the one who infected me.” The feeling of getting blamed for infecting a guy, even though you know very well that you have been faithful and he is the one who has been fooling around, scares the hell out of HIV positive young girls and they thus prefer not to share their status. Every decision and every action we take in life result to either a good or bad outcome. Never judge a person
who is living with the HIV virus, because you never know when your time will come. So yah, such is life.
"Bianca"- 24 years old, HIV positive and going strong.

Music Festival for
Mellissa continues Madelaine Laubscher
The local musicians agreed to continue with a music festival that was intended to raise funds for Mellissa Bester to cover her cancer treatment, even though she passed away before the festival could become a reality. The community decided it would only be fair to continue with the plans out of respect for Mellissa and the cancer fund carrying her name. The initiators of the concert, Mr Len Nel, Mrs Bianca Raats and others agreed that the date for the festival should be postponed to 27 June.
“At first we were in a rush to organise the festival for Mellissa, as she needed the help urgently. It was planned for 9 May. We are however
not in a rush anymore, since Mellissa sadly passed away. We postponed the date so that the fesitval can be orginised properly as it takes time to organise. We are grateful that the musicians are still willing to perform. The community has been very giving and we would like that to continue. Mellissa never had the opportunity to really make use of the funds that were raised for her. Her wish was that if she did not survive, the funds be used for anyone suffering with the
same illness. We want to help her fulfill her wish,” they said. According to Miss Raats, there are still a lot of stalls that are available. “The entry fee for the stalls was N$500, but we brought the price down to N$300. Everyone who has entered a stall must contact me at biancaraats@ yahoo.com. Those interested need to email me, because we need to make sure people do not enter too many of the same kind of stalls. We still need a lot of stalls to make the day a success,” she said. The management of Atlantis Sports Club have opened their hearts and agreed that the show can be held at their premises. It will be revealed at a later stage which local artists will be performing. “We are very grateful to those who have opened their hearts towards this festival. Thank you for your selfless acts of kindness. We still need
sponsors for mobile toilets. Two to four mobile toilets would be enough. This festival is intended for a greater purpose than simply raising funds. There are a lot of other cancer patients needing support therefore the funds will be used to help many cancer sufferers. If it is a success, we would like to do this on a yearly basis.” According to Mellissa’s father there has never been a cancer fund in Walvis Bay. “We would like the Mellissa Bester Cancer Fund to grow into a stable trust fund that will be able to support cancer sufferers for years to come,” he said. “Mellissa’s thoughts towards the community helping her, were that she could hardly believe that complete strangers were willing to help her. Please help us to make it believable and come support us at the festival.” For more information to enter stalls or give support, contact biancaraats@yahoo.com

Five years old, 21 operations and still smiling Liesl Losper After Natrovinha Shelay Davids was born on 5 November 2010, she did not have a normal childhood - at three months her voice disappeared. She started breathing abnormally and she suddenly had a croaky voice. At two years her situation became worse, and a doctor linked it to asthma and grub - but it was not the case. Since then, this little girl has undergone 21 operations already, two of which were in March this year. These operations were all life-saving – to keep uncontrolled growths from obstructing her airways. She had her first operation in February 2013. From operation to operation she needs to get three injections weekly. If she misses the injections, it leads to earlier operations. The parents have to buy these
injections from their own pockets. “As parents we could hardly hear her crying or talking as her voice was very soft. We, together with the doctor, tried to find out what the matter was,
and what illness this was. The juvenile papillomas are caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) in the blood, and as her immune system is very weak at this stage, an operation is the only option to keep her
alive. Many times a doctor conducts a tracheotaslemy (making a hole in the throat) as they fear she may suffocate. It is very difficult for us as parents, as we have to be, and stay vigilant, to
Natrovinha with her little brother and parents, Petronella and Frankie Davids
know when to take her to the doctor. The doctors at the State hospital gave her over to the private doctors as they could not do anything for her anymore. Since July 2014 she had been operated on at Roman Catholic Hospital under Dr Van Tonder. The GRN medical aid of the father only covers 95% and 5% we need to pay ourselves - which is very expensive for us. We are paying the Anesthetics doctors from our pockets, as many are not contracted in with the government medical aid - and sometimes she ends up in the ICU, which is very expensive,” her father Frankie Davids told namib times. At this point medical bills are increasing every month for this family in which the father is the only breadwinner. Although the doctors usually predict two months before the next operation, this is not the case at all. “What made the load much lighter was the help from our church leader, Gustafine Louw. There are times that she takes the money out of her own pocket to help us, other times she’s asked help from other people, to assis with transport and operation costs. She also helps us where she can with the weekly injections. I have two other kids also, nine months and a three year old, when Natrovinah needs to go to Windhoek for operations her father has to put in leave and stay with her. I am so blessed to have him in my life and in this situation, as father of my children” Petronella Davids, mother of Natrovinah, said. With this as background the parents urge the community to help them with buying injections and also to help paying their bills directly to the institutions. Their church leader, Gustafine (081 295 6900) or Frankie (081 631 0243) can be contacted for more information.
Brave smile from Natrovinha Davids

Alles Gute

For the new model year 2015 of the SLK, Mercedes-Benz has once again combined passion with good sense to appeal to both the heart and mind. This is impressively demonstrated by the four-cylinder SLK models, a new engine generation with 3rd-generation direct injection and multi-spark ignition ensures sporty driving enjoyment. In the SLK 200, the four-cylinder engine generates 135 kW from a displacement of 1991 cc and torque of 300 Nm - this is 30 Nm more than the preceding model. The new SLK 300 replaces the SLK 250. The output from the same displacement increases by 30 kW, versus the preceding model, to 180 kW. At the same time, torque is increased by 60 Nm to 370 Nm. As standard, MercedesBenz combines the SLK 200 with a new 6-speed manual transmission which excels with a high level of gearshift comfort and precise travel. The new SLK 300 is equipped with the new ninespeed 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission as standard. This allows very fast gear changes especially in Manual mode - and also lower engine speeds. This has a particularly beneficial effect on efficiency and noise comfort. Optionally the SLK 200 is also available with the innovative 9G-TRONIC. The 9G-TRONIC transmission comes with a newly designed, sporty DIRECT SELECT lever on the centre console, as well as steering wheel gearshift paddles. All the SLK engines feature the ECO start/stop function and meets stringent emission standards. This also applies to the six-cylinder engines of the SLK 350 and
SLK 55 AMG, which round off the SLK family. The extended standard equipment of the SLK includes LED daytime running lamps in a rod design. An LTE-capable exterior onboard aerial is also new in conjunction with the option ally a va ilable convenience telephony. The high transfer rates of this new, high-performance mobile radio standard allow an even better quality of reception and transmission. This also benefits the performance of the COMAND Online multimedia system with extremely fast internet access and intuitive operation. The range of assistance and safety systems, from ATTENTION ASSIST to DISTRONIC PLUS incl. COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS, is likewise impressive. The latter system features automatic proximity control, a collision warning function including Adaptive Brake Assist and initiation of autonomous partial braking if the driver fails to react. Blind Spot Assist and Lane Keeping Assist are also optionally available. A feature that continues to be unique to the SLK is the panoramic vario-roof with MAGIC SKY CONTROL - this glass roof is lightened or darkened at the touch of a button. This means that it provides an open-air feeling at any time, but when required gives welcome shade under a hot sun. The classic strengths of the SLK also include its well-designed boot, which at 335 litres has easily the highest capacity in this segment, and a very sporty suspension which demands no compromises in terms of comfort. The standard suspension already ensures agility and comfort on long journeys. The optional Dynamic Handling package with adaptive damping system, Direct-Steer system, ESP速 Dynamic Cornering Assist and suspension lowered by ten millimetres all enable outstanding handling dynamics and make sure that the SLK not only excels on the handling circuit, but also when it comes to comfort.
nical features, the prices for the SLK have only increased slightly.

NOTICES A VERY POWERFUL TRADITIONAL DOCTOR IN SWAKOPMUND , DR DUH AZIZI. The perception of African traditional values and cultures have been colliding with the western living styled, this has been confusing the understanding of African Traditional powers in its medicines. Deceit and wrong preaching against African ways of living and the way some traditional Doctors take advantage through lying and cheating and the fact that western style is dominating African culture are some of the reasons that discredit the excellent and powerful African traditional medicine. This year the weather also played together, where in previous years the East wind pestered the day. The games at the Atlantis Club was also a huge success and whole lot of fun. There were about 260 people who took part in the entire day. All together 15 different clubs and even three guys from South Africa's Ring of Fire took part in the festivities.
hint of east wind again - that is producing some excellent golfing weather.
Thursday 30 April saw the completion of the RAACT (Regional All Africa Challenge Trophy) at the Omeya GC. Our girls did well finishing 3rd on 482 behind. RSA 439 and Zimbabwe 469. In the Individual Section Rossmund's Caro Els finished 4th on 233 - 10 shots behind the overall winner C Gorlei of RSA on 213. Well played to you all - were are very proud. Last Saturday 2 May a small field of players who did not disappeared for the long weekend took part in the Club Sponsored Competition - apparently there were a few visitors who also took the opportunity to take a day off from the fish waters - I believe the catches were very poor over the weekend period There were no two clubs and the overall scores were in the main well down from previous weeks - everyone in the holiday mood. Overall Winner: M Angula 45pts ( Martin is really giving the course a hard time at the moment and his golf is certainly on a high - after the past few weeks handicap down to a scratch); 2nd: M Tune (a visitor from Windhoek) 34pts; 3rd: W Borg 30pts; 4th: G Muraiski over H Ndjendja 29 pts (c/o). A big word of thanks to our new committee member Helmut for organizing the prizes on the day. Wednesday 6 May we saw a good turnout again with a few visitors still around to make up the numbers as several of our regulars were out of town golfing and working. The day was sponsored by Aggrekko/Warren Theron. The 18 hole competition saw Martin as the victor on 40pts followed closely by Athol on 39pts. The 9 hole competition going to Tony with a well played 19pts over the back nine. This coming Saturday 9 May Alexander Forbes are promising a great day of golf with a difference - so get yourself a partner and write in today if possible. Cobus is anxious to get his numbers finalised. Sunday 10 May - SAGES at Walvis Bay A few things to remember: * Matchplay games to be completed by 10 May - if you cannot get finished make arrangements with Jacque. * A ball must be dropped from shoulder height and not rolled into play. * No washing of cars on the parking lot. * Repair all divots and pitch marks. “ Golfers who try to make everything perfect before taking the shot rarely make a perfect shot."
Congratulations to Gregory Aukumeb from the coastal team LHU Blue Waters, who was called up for duty at the National football team, the Brave Warriors. Namibia will compete in the Cosafa Cup competition, which will be hosted in South Africa. The Brave Warriors will play Seychelles on 17 May, Mauritius on 19 May and Zimbabwe on 21 May. The announcement was made by national team coach, Ricardo Mannetti, on Tuesday.

Namibia's refereeing standards improving: FIFA Instructor Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) Referee Instructor Felix Tangawarima said there is positive development in refereeing in Namibia. Tangawarima, who is responsible for FIFA's Southern and Eastern African regions' referees and instructors training, told Nampa on Tuesday that there is great improvement with referees in the country although there is still room for improvement. He said people always complain about referees making mistakes on the field, but referees always try their level best whenever they
step on the football pitch. “This week we first trained the instructors and this time around they were taught the same thing that the referees do on the field so they understand the intensity that referees go through most of the time,” he explained. Tangawarima said it is their hope that after the training, refereeing in the country and the continent will improve greatly. The training is hosted by the Namibia
Football Association (NFA) Referees Department. The high-level annual FIFA Member Association match officials' course is taking place at the NFA Technical Centre in Windhoek with 35 match officials in attendance. The course started on Tuesday with a fitness test for the referees. The training ends on Friday, while a referees' assessors' course, which is also underway, which ends on Wednesday.
The courses are facilitated by FIFA Referees Development Officer Carlos Henriques, Tangawarima from Zimbabwe and Physical Instructor Mark Mzengo from Malawi, assisted by four locals Moses Hindengwa, Arvo Mufeti, Fransisca Katjaimo and Simson Domingu. Invited referees taking part in the course are Helmut Andreas, Jeremiah Johannes, Deon Gamab, Titus Nghishimono (Erongo

Rugby, soccer, pool, cricket and the FEI World Dressage Challenge on the menu This weekend promises to be an action-packed sporting weekend, with teams in various sport codes locking horns at the Coast. In a nutshell - on the rugby scene, Walvis Bay based Kudus Rugby Club will engage Windhoek based Wanderers at the Narraville Stadium, and in Swakopmund the West Coast Sharks will play against the Jaguars from Windhoek. This match will take place at the SFC Sports Grounds at 14:00. The last encounter between these two teams ended in the Sharks defeating the Jaguars in Windhoek with a score of 43-10. However, the Swakopmund team says it will not underestimate the Jaguars and they will take tomorrow’s clash very serious. The West Coast Sharks will be playing in their brand new kit tomorrow, and this might just turn the odds in their favour. In Narraville, better known as the House of Pain, the second team of Kudus will play against the second team of the Wanderers and their game will start at 13:30.
