Mr Ian Booysen (29) (pictured), a renowned paramedic and esteemed member of the community, passed away early Sunday morning, after a motor vehicle accident in Walvis Bay. “It is understood that Booysen lost control over his vehicle and drove into a tree and subsequently succumbed to his injuries,” Deputy Commissioner Ottilie Kashuupulwa confirmed. The accident ocurred near Pelican Bay Hotel. A source, close to the deceased, spoke to the newspaper about this tragic
event. “Ian was a young paramedic and his death came as a huge shock to everyone. He was well-known in paramedic- and karate circles. He was also known by many for saving their lives, or the lives of their families. In addition, he was wellknown in Shotokan Karate. He started his karate
career in Windhoek as a little boy and obtained his senior black belt. Later on he became an instructor in Windhoek and assisted with many young students. He did so well and represented Namibia on many occasions as a participant, a referee and sometimes at Coastal Competitions, as a medic. When Ian Continues on page 2

Residents of Narraville in Walvis Bay remain with the dreadful Mavourlene Gaes stench and unhygienic living conditions, after the scenario of overflowing sewage drains continues. Sewage water is flooding N$800 000 worth of electric cable recovered premises in Duin Street and also Namib Street in the surburb for Two suspects were arrested on theft charges in Walvis Bay after they and two other employees of Chinese Harbour Engineering Company allegedly the past two weeks. “This is a nightmare and it is ongoing for weeks now that we are compelled to live in this conditions. When I want to take a bath, I have to go to someone else’s house. When we flush the toilets, the water pushes up through the drains and the same happens when we use the shower. The stench is ut-
terly unbearable,” says a resident who lives in Duin Street. Mr Kevin Adams, Public Relations Officer at the Walvis Bay municipality noted that the municipality is doing all it can to overcome this problem. Their cleaning teams are constantly removing debris from the system,
which has lately also been clogged with cement bags and other abnormal items, due to the increase in residential construction projects in the area, says Adams. “As we have explained previously, the fact that some houses are situated lower than the streets has also added to the problems being enContinues on page 2
stole equipment belonging to the company. According to Nampol’s Deputy Commissioner Ottilie Kashuupulwa the two suspects were arrested on Saturday morning in Kuisebmond, while the other two suspects managed to flee and remain at large. “It is suspected that the four suspects used the truck which the company
uses to transport unwanted materials to the dumpside, to transport the electrical cables, in order not to raise any suspicion,” Kashuupulwa said. She added that it is still unclear what time the incident took place, but the company's close circuit cameras might shed some light on it.
The police recovered the cables worth N$800 000 and returned it to the company. China Harbour Engineering Company won the contract to extend the N$3 billion (USD250 million) bulk container terminal in Walvis Bay, by reclaiming land from the Atlantic Ocean.
