Swakop municipality takes control Jade McClune Tenders for the servicing of all the erven that form part of the mass housing programme in Swakopmund will in future be handled directly by the municipality and not by the National Housing Enterprise (NHE).
Following some disagreement over who will service the 3 034 erven allocated to the mass housing project, the CEO of Swakopmund Mr Eckart Demasius wrote to NAMIB TIMES 19 the NHE on 24 April: “In Bladsy 15 order to clarify a misunderstanding, the Ministry Locker vom is requested to instruct the

Swakopmund Municipality that the Local Authority will be responsible for the servicing of erven for the mass housing project.” In line with its decision to service its own land, Council said at the end of May that tenders for the servicing of land were already being compiled by
Windhoek Consulting Engineers. This development follows recent revelations that the municipality had lost out on hundreds of millions of dollars over the past decade due to an earlier decision to allow private developers to buy and service undeveloped erven.
Partly as a result of the rapid implementation of the mass housing project launched by President Hifikepunye Pohamba in December 2013, the ambitious multi-billion dollar scheme has been the subject of heated criticism and confusion.

!Nara Primary classrooms collapse Mavourlene Gaes The strong winds that ravaged the coast over the past weekend also destroyed three classrooms under construction at !Nara Primary School in Walvis Bay. The walls of the prefabricated building were ripped off the foundation by the sandstorms. According to the owner of the construction company, Boeties Construction and Design in Windhoek, the building collapsed because the roof of the classrooms, which would have helped to weigh down the structures and strengthen them,
was not in place yet. He also said the foundation was still wet making it easy for the strong wind to destroy the buildings. The constructions of the classrooms started in April this year and were scheduled to be completed by the end of this month. However, due to the destruction of the classrooms, the contractor fears the classrooms may
The destroyed classrooms not be completed in time. Concerns have been raised by residents about the safety of the classrooms to the teachers and learners as it appears that the materials used is not strong enough for the weather conditions of Walvis Bay.
When approached for comment the Head of Public Relations: Municipality of Walvis Bay, Kevin Adams said the building inspectors reported that the damage would not have occurred if the roof was in place.

Swakop municipality takes control Continued from page 1 The erven in question have not yet been transferred to the NHE and this unresolved issue is proving to be a major sticking-point. The issue centres on whether the NHE has to pay for the erven serviced by the municipality and how much. A source at the parastatal confirmed yesterday that the NHE is still waiting for the erven to be legally transferred to the parastatal, meaning that the land would become the property of the NHE. Asked whether the ongoing negotiations is delaying their work, Mr Paulo Shipoke of Power Onyeno said yesterday that they have already completed their construction designs and that they have started with construction work on the first 200 houses. “We need the simultaneous installation of the services, while construction is ongoing to ensure that this does not impact on the construction process,” he said. “We really don’t mind if the municipality does the servicing if they have the capacity, as long as the services
are installed at the same time to avoid any delays in the project,” he said. Power Onyeno won a massive contract to build 2 034 houses at a total cost of N$583 million. Onyeno tendered at a rate of N$5 910 per square metre. Delta Group Holdings won a contract to build 400 houses at Swakopmund at a total cost of N$91 628 835. Their prices ranged from N$6 132.07 to N$3 722.29 per square metre. Ferusa Capital, in which Mr Waldheim Shiluwa, the son of the First Lady Mrs Pohamba, has a stake, won a contract worth N$173 million to build 600 houses. Shortly after the contracts were awarded Ferusa advertised in the local papers to invite any parties interested in building the houses Ferusa Capital was awarded. Ferusa’s spokespersons could not be reached for comment yesterday, but an official at NHE, who did not want to be named, said all companies that tendered had to meet certain minimum requirements,
Deadline approaches for Minimum Wage
On Monday, 30 June, workers in Namibia’s construction industry can anticipate an increase of minimum wages for respective job categories. Increases of 9.5% in the construction industry will be applicable as from 1 June 2014 to 31 May 2015.

but they could not confirm whether all successful tenderers had met the minimum requirements. He said that there would be penalties for companies that do not meet the basic building standards, and noted that the municipality will have to issue a certificate of completion before the houses can be occupied. In the latest round of back and forth between the commissioning agency, the NHE, and the Municipality of Swakopmund, the Town Council last month gave the go-ahead for a service-level agreement between the two parties in order to specify the parties’ rights and duties. It appears though that there is consensus that the municipalities will service the erven with government funds earmarked for the mass housing project. Council has meanwhile requested that the NHE “resubmits the building plans for the various houses, based on type, cost and subsidy, to Council for approval.” A highly-placed source at the NHE confirmed yesterday that they
will soon resubmit their plans to comply with the technical requirements of the municipality. Asked about the quality of the houses currently under construction at Walvis Bay, and whether the NHE will impose penalties for construction companies that do not meet the minimum standards, the source said they do not anticipate any problems with the single-brick walls (one-inch bricks), noting that they will not compromise on the quality and cement and that the decision was based on cost-saving measures. Council has since requested the NHE to communicate in writing their intention to replace Block 26 with Block 25 and instructed Kinghorn Associates to compile the agreement. The costs of drafting the contract will be defrayed from the mass housing budget. Council also requested that the NHE submit the names of all housing beneficiaries in order to verify whether they have properties elsewhere.
The increase in minimum wages follows a previous increase of 9% as from 15 September 2013. The minimum wage is a legal requirement for the building and construction industry at large; and is as a result of the collective agreement which had been negotiated between the Construction Industries Federation of Namibia (CIF) and the Metal and Allied Namibian Workers Union (MANWU), which was also enforced to become applicable to all companies operating in the construction sector after it was gazetted on 24 December 2014. The negotiated wage increase is higher than in previous years, which were 7.5% and 8%, respectively. With the simultaneous adjustment to the Service Allowance and taking into consideration an inflation rate, wages have effectively increased in real terms. The CIF and MANWU emphasise the importance
of adhering to minimum employment conditions in the construction industry, as promulgated in Government Gazette No. 5372, Government Notice No. 334, of 24 December 2013. It is important to take note; the increase refers to a minimum wage and not to an increase of 9.5 % across-the-board. If employers have already paid the specified minimum wage, or more, any additional increase is left to their discretion. Ms Bärbel Kirchner, consulting general manager of the CIF says: “It is critical that all contractors – bona fide Namibian and foreign companies - in Namibia’s construction industry strive towards adherence of all laws, including minimum wage and employment conditions. “It is in everybody’s interest that the minimum wages are being paid across the industry, and that optimal work conditions are maintained. This
will ensure the avoidance of costs differentiation to the detriment of workers in the industry and would help the industry in getting closer to a more equal playing field. “Enforcement of minimum employment conditions by the authorities is also critical. Construction sites must be visited regularly. It is therefore important that the capacity of the labour inspectorate will be enhanced; and that inspectors also acquaint themselves with the requirements as reflected in Government Gazette No. 5372.” The promulgated collective agreement not only covers minimum wages for labourers and different categories of skilled and semi-skilled artisans, but also health and safety standards, minimum protective clothing, minimum productivity levels, living away allowances and service allowance.

should get a plumber to fix the problem,” she complained. The owner of the house, where the sewerage block occurs was approached for comment. “The toilet is not the problem. The toilet has been locked for a month, nobody uses the toilet. The problem is the sewerage system of the house itself. I have written letters to the municipality in order for them to fix the problem. I did not cause this problem. I moved into the house in 2001 and found it in this state. Since then I have struggled to fix the problem,” she said. The news crew also made a follow up on a building that the newspaper reported on last year which residents were using as a toilet and disposal of faeces in plastic bags. Covering their nostrils the reporters entered the building and were shocked with the amount of human excretion and swarms of flies inside the building, proof that little or nothing had been done despite the report on the issue. Walvis Bay Municipal Health Inspector Dennis Gurirab, when asked to comment on the allegation, referred the newspaper to Mr Kevin Adams of the Public Relations and Customer Service Department. In response Adams said, “Although the area referred to as the old Hostel Complex has been cleaned after the complaint in December, (making refe-
rence to an article published by the newspaper) I cannot recall why the reconstruction did not occur and will have to find out. It has fallen victim to a renewed wave of vandalism and contamination. The solution is to seal all the openings to prevent any access to the building. This will be done in the near future, after a thorough clean-up exercise has been completed once again.” Adams however was not able to give the exact date when the cleanup was done. He also pointed out that the Department of Water; Waste & Environmental Management was in the process of investigating the blockage issue in order to provide some form of relief with regard to the complaint by a resident at Orion Street in Kuisebmond. Last year December, a Zimbabwean student walked past an abandoned building in Kuisebmond when a terrible stench filled his nostrils. He discovered the appalling sight of human faeces scattered across the building that indicated that the building had been used as a toilet and dumping place for faeces for some time. Last year when contacted for comment, the municipality told the newspaper that they were aware of the situation and realised that it was a big problem. Adams said then that the municipality was in the
process of getting contractors to clean the building thoroughly and reconstruct it so that nobody would be able to enter it and use it as a public toilet. He said the municipality would attend to the problem immediately. What’s more worrisome is the fact that there are food stalls, and vendors selling fruit, in the vicinity of the building. A vendor who was asked if he didn’t find it disturbing to be conducting business in a stinking place and selling food that is constantly covered with flies replied, “I know about it. What is it you want?” Adams attributed the prevalence of the unhealthy conditions in Kuisebmond to overcrowding and a lack of housing. He added that the Municipality of Walvis Bay is in the process of addressing these problems holistically by accelerating the provision of serviced and affordable land. “The Municipality, however, is but one party in this complex process and is in constant discussions with other stakeholders to help solve the problem of inadequate housing. Stakeholders include Government, which has commissioned the National Housing Enterprise to take charge of the Mass Housing scheme” he commented. See related article on page 5.

Pastor claims vision of water and oil Marshallino Beukes
A Swakopmund pastor, Petrus Herman, claims he had a vision from God, showing him the exact spot where underground water and oil can be found and this man of God from The Gospel of Christ Ministry, claims this will be the answer to Namibia’s water woes. He explained that the visions have occurred frequently over the past years, but recently it started “burning inside him” to reveal it. Pastor Her-
man is reluctant to give away the locations of the supposed underground water and oil and want Government, or even private geologists to contact
him. He noted that he will escort them personally to the locations, which God allegedly pointed out to him. The Ministry of Agricul-
ture, Water and Forestry and Mines and Energy Ministry are not yet informed regarding this revelations, he said. “I will take them to the
indicated areas and I do not want to tell anybody beforehand,” he stated. Pastor Petrus Herman can be contacted on his mobile phone (081-2144146).

Our team, in collaboration with the Walvis Bay Reaction team would like to thank those supporting us. Without your assistance it would have been impossible for us to serve the community productively. Since February up to the end of May only 50
burglaries were reported to us, which is already an improvement and only four of those were in Meersig,” he said. The watch group would like to express their thanks to Namsov, Trentyre, Walvis Bay Fitness Centre, Radio Electronic, Walvis Bay Self Service, West Coast Joinery Supplies, Performance Motors, Wesbank Transport, Protea Chemicals, Namib Offroad Centre, I-Consult, Walvis Electric, Namibia Electrical Distributors (NED), Naukluft Water, Potties Repairs (Gobabis), Baleia Do
Mar, Toyota Walvis Bay, Strauss Group, Safeware Namibia and Extreme Projects. The sponsors have donated vehicles, financial support, radios, fuel, repairs and maintenance on the vehicles, tyres and additional equipment. They also want to thank the sponsors that do not wish to be named. Mr Archer said that if anyone would like to make a contribution towards the team they should contact him personally and not accept any sponsorship letters that are not signed by him.
Noble denied bail again
Piquet Jacobs Mr Gavin Noble (53) was back in the Walvis Bay Magistrate's court on 18-19 June, for a bail application hearing. During last week’s trial proceedings, the defence argued that the cocaine was not found in Noble’s possession, but that it was placed in his vehicle thus making it difficult to tie up all the ends to the case. The case was also postponed because the last State witness, a reservist officer Mr Shaun Thomas, is currently at sea. On 13 October last year,
during a decoy operation by the police drug unit, Noble was arrested in Walvis Bay and allegedly caught with a total of 14 cocaine rocks with a street value of about N$1 000. Noble’s attorney, Mr Jan Wessels submitted a formal bail application on Friday, the fourth application submitted to date. Wessels said the State opposed previous appli-
cations for bail on the basis of a second, separate drug-related charge and the possibility that Noble will interfere with the police investigation and witnesses. The state again opposed the application, arguing that no new developments were considered and hence its decision to decline the latest application.
Winckler guilty of culpable homicide, begs for mercy
Court Reporter Walvis Bay resident Hascum Winckler was sentenced to an effective eight years in prison last Friday for the murder of 18-year old Freddie Gaseb in 2005. Winckler pleaded for mercy before the Swakopmund Regional Magistrate’s Court after he was found guilty of culpable homicide. Groans and cries of despair suddenly filled the somber courtroom, as Winckler’s family and friends in the gallery reacted as the sentence was pronounced. Having looked tense and frightened throughout the last day of proceedings, Winckler nearly collapsed in the dock when the sentence was read out: “Please, I can’t afford to go to prison,” he begged. Almost ten years after the incident, he was sentenced to eight years in prison, with two years suspended for five years, on condition that he does not commit such a violent offense again. The case stems from an incident that took place at Winckler’s house in Narraville, Walvis Bay on 21 December 2005. Winckler and Gaseb were involved in a fight and Gaseb died at the scene as a result of three stab wounds. The post mortem found that he had been stabbed in the head and chest and arm with such force that the blows caused a rib fracture, skull fracture and the muscle to protrude from the arm where he was stabbed. The court found though
that Winckler did not plan to murder Gaseb. Actually, Gaseb was the aggressor. He had entered Winckler’s yard and had taken money (N$20) belonging to Winckler, he damaged some property and attacked the accused, it was reported. There was also evidence that Gaseb, who was known in the area as a boxer, had previously assaulted Winckler, knocking out several of his teeth in the process. Winckler’s defense lawyer, Mr Chris Mayumbelo argued that his client had acted in self-defense after he was attacked by someone who was physically larger than him and who had previously assaulted him. Magistrate Gaynor Poulton, however found that although he was not the aggressor, in stabbing Gaseb the way he did, Winckler had exceeded the bounds of reasonable self-defense. Winckler, now 29 years old, was 20 at the time of the incident. He did not deny killing Gaseb, but he denied the intention to kill. In mitigation, his lawyer asked that it be taken into account that he is a first time offender, that he has had no brush with the law since the incident in question, that he is the sole breadwinner of his family, that he has three children
aged 11, 10, 4 and his wife is expecting another. Prosecutor Hermien Apollus asked the court to impose a custodial sentence. She said that while Winckler has had a chance to go on with his life and raise a family, Gaseb had been denied that right. His life was brutally cut short by the negligent actions of Winckler, she argued. “I will have to send you to prison,” Magistrate Poulton told him, after having weighed up all the evidence before the court. She said that considering the circumstances of the attack, the reaction of the accused, the weapon used and the way Gaseb was attacked, the court could not be satisfied with a fine for such a serious offense. “Justice must be seen to be done. The country is experiencing violent crimes at a frightening level, which give the impression that people do not respect life,” she said. Winckler had asked for a fine of no more than N$20 000, but the magistrate said “a fine would send out the wrong message”. “Sentencing must deter this kind of violent offense.” The courts must make it clear that “killing without thinking will not be tolerated or accepted,” Poulton said.

Walvis Bay Council to build stalls for vendors Mavourlene Gaes
The Municipality of Walvis Bay is planning on building decent trading places for the informal traders at Kuisebmond.
Council approved the budget for this project but Walvis Bay Municipality Head of Public Relations, Kevin Adams said he is not in a position to say when
the construction will begin. Adams said the decision to build the stalls was driven by Council’s desire to provide decent stalls and to
formalise the trading area. He added that the local authority is eager to help the small business enterprises to grow and by providing the traders

Junior Council Seminar Piquet Jacobs
In line with one of its objectives Walvis Bay Junior City Council is working to complete a number of community projects that will uplift the lives of the youth and the underprivileged. Under the able leadership of Junior Mayor Marietta Janse van Rensburg, 132 prefects from Walvis Bay high schools attended a Prefects Leadership Breakfast seminar in the Town Hall on 13 June. Among the schools in attendance were Duneside High School, De Duine Secondary School, Duinesig Secondary School, Dolphin Secondary School, Kuisebmond Secondary School, The International School of Walvis Bay and Walvis Bay Private High School. The Seminar brings together school leaders from high schools in Walvis Bay to familiarise themselves with each other, share a variety of developmental project ideas, exchange leadership strategies and

acquire skills to motivate and influence young people. Addressing the Seminar, the Junior Mayor, flanked by her deputy Pius Samuel, explained the background and objectives of the Junior City Council and underscored the importance of good leadership in the community. Guest speaker, Councillor Tony Raw equally emphasised the need for an able and competent leadership among the youth. Another speaker, Himlin Galant, motivated the prefects by helping them with ways to identify leadership styles that suited them. The seminar was informed of various projects undertaken by representatives of schools present.
A call was made for collaboration among the schools in various projects. In her remarks, the Junior Mayor acknowledged the massive role played by Lelanie Coetzee and the heads of schools in the formulation and implementation of their projects. She also thanked the heads of schools for affording the students time to attend the seminar. The success of the seminar led the Junior Mayor to call for it to become an annual event that should continue to promote similar seminars and the generation of projects fundamental to the development of the environment, community and youth of the port city.
with stalls, the business will be conducted under a more conducive environment. The municipality hopes the new stalls will help the local businesses to
do more business and grow accordingly. The Kuisebmond open market is an area in Walvis Bay which is visited by a lot of people to buy fruit, ve-
getables and facial products sold by the roadside. The food of the “Ka-pana” traders is also very popular but busi-ness is conducted in the open and as
it is unhygienic, the municipality decided to build proper market stalls and avert the possible outbreak of diseases.

ries and Marine Resources’ Permanent Secretary, Mrs Ulitala Hiveluah, noted that the different resources being managed are the country’s heritage and pride and stakeholders should thus ensure to adapt strategies and implement them to the letter. She also encouraged young people to get themselves exposed and for the supervisors and heads of departments to allow their subordinates to represent the Ministry at different platforms, nationally, regionally and internationally. This was the second
year this meeting was presented and students from the University of Namibia, representatives from NACOMA, the Directorate of Operations and Fisheries Observer Agency were among the participants in this three day meeting of presentations and deliberations. Dr Hilkka Ndjaula, a former employee of the ministry of fisheries and now a senior researcher and guest of honour, gave upcoming researchers a view on all the ups and downs experienced in this field.

WHY? The marine resources are limited and currently some of them are overfished or over collected. It is necessary that everybody uses them wisely and carefully to secure the future harvesting needs by protecting the stock. Quantity/number of marine resources harvestable, minimum size limits of fish and crayfish that can be caught, open season etc. help to manage stocks to avoid the total disappearance of some species in our waters. Do not leave bait or fish on the beach! Either take it home or return it to the sea. This food attracts scavengers like jackals and gulls that prey on other bio-diversity. When you are back home after the holiday, it also inflates the predator population. Where can you get a license for angling, crayfish diving & bait/mussels collection?

I always make an effort to read the namib times every Tuesday and Friday, and for some unknown reason I always go through the COURT REPORT. It always hurts to read about these minors with charges of theft or any other charge and I believe those minors may have been held in a police holding cell for at least a day or more. Parents and guardians of these kids, do you not care about your children? Does it not hurt you to know your child has a criminal record at that age? I don’t know any of them, but the fact that they are minors really hurts me a lot. I know you would say you have no control over what the children do when they are away from home, but if we teach our children well, they would not be getting into trouble. I think if we as parents try to guide our
children make rules for them at home and control our children it might help. For instance, if your child goes out to play and come back home with something that you know you did not buy for them, it is your duty to ask them were they got it from, and since our kids has a tendency of lying, go out of your way and make sure what they told you is true. Even if it means going to whomever they got it from and asking how and why it was given. Sometimes your child comes home with a cell phone, play station or any of those expensive gadgets, and you don’t bother finding out who it belongs to, and you know you have never bought such an item for your child, don’t you think there’s a possibility that they stole this? I know we love our children and
refuse to believe something like that, but let me tell you that it is possible. Today your child steals from a friend and it seems ok because nothing happened to him, and tomorrow it will be shoplifting or something worse, believe me. If your child did something wrong, as a parent or guardian, it is your duty to punish them, a punishment hard enough for them to learn that they did something wrong. Parents and guardians, lets guide and control our children. “They say Prevention is better than cure. Let’s love our children enough to keep them out of danger but not so much that we turn a blind eye to their wrongs. That way you can avoid your minor being abused in a holding cell. Elly Mushimba
Swakopmund Matters Crucial decision by New Zealand’s Environmental Protection Agency regarding marine mining. New Zealand’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) refused a mining consent application to Trans-Tasman Resources Ltd - the company proposed to excavate up to 50 million tons of sand per year from the seabed around 30 km offshore. The EPA outlined that the decision was made mainly due to the uncertainty around the scope and significance of the potential adverse environmental effects, and those on existing interests, such as the fishing interests. Trans-Tasman Resources could not overcome technological hurdles and fears among scientists and environmentalists that mining could destroy fragile fisheries and exotic creatures at the bottom of the ocean. Its Chief Executive, Tim Crossley, said the company was extremely disappointed with the decision. “We have put a significant amount of time and effort into developing this project including consulting local communities and undertaking detailed scientific research to assess environmental impacts of the project,” However, the lobby group Kiwis Against Seabed Mining (KASM) saw this as a huge victory for New Zealand’s environment. KASM Chair Phil McCabe said, “This decision is a victory for common sense and environmental protection.” Trans-Tasman Resources hoped to have started mining in 2016 as it already had a mining license, but need-
ed the marine consent from New Zealand’s EPA. This was the EPA’s first test of regulating mining in the country’s territorial waters. Its next is an application from Chatham Rock Phosphate Ltd, seeking to mine phosphate several hundred kilometres off the east coast of the South Island. In the Executive Summary of the decision the EPA made these telling remarks, “The uncertainties in the scope and significance of the potential adverse environmental effects, the lack of confidence we find in the extent to which existing interests will be appropriately taken into account, the lack of clarity about the extent of economic benefit to New Zealand outside of royalties and taxes and the economic value of the adverse effects, cannot be remedied by the imposition of other lawful conditions that we could require based on the evidence before us. In summary, on the evidence presented, we are not satisfied that the life-supporting capacity of the environment would be safeguarded or that the adverse effects of the proposal could be avoided, remedied or mitigated, nor do we consider that the proposed conditions (including the adaptive management approach) are sufficiently certain or robust for this application to be approved, given the uncertainty and inadequacy of the information presented to us about the potential adverse effects. Overall, we think this ap-
plication was premature. More time to have better understood the proposed operation and the receiving environment and engage more constructively with existing interests and other parties may have overcome many of the concerns we have set out in this decision. It is conceivable that at least some of these matters could have been addressed contemporaneously with the other investigative work the applicant undertook prior to lodging the application for consents. Ultimately, the information upon which we had to make our decision, while voluminous, was too uncertain and inadequate, and we did not have sufficient confidence in the adaptive management approach proposed to address that uncertainty and inadequacy to enable the activity to be undertaken. For all of these reasons, the application as presented to us does not meet the sustainable management purpose of the EEZ Act.” The full document (248 pages) on the decision as released by the EPA can be accessed with this link: http://www.epa.govt.nz/ EEZ/trans_tasman/decision/Pages/default.aspx. The significance of this decision and the reasoning behind it should not escape the minds of those in Namibia who have an equally important task in protecting and preserving Namibia’s marine environment and its resources.

The Timeless Elegance Of White White is always a classic, regardless if it is gloss or matt. When choosing a white tile, it is rather important to consider the size of the bathroom you are working with. For example. If your bathroom is longer than it is wide, it will clam and enlarge the bathroom if the bulk surface is tiled with the same tile. Adding a bit of an eye catch in
the shower. This can be easily achieved by choosing a texture tile, also in white and use it from the shower floor up against the wall. Herewith creating a flowing focal point. This style also really looks nice when done with a mosaic. Gloss tiles normally allow more playroom to use eye catching mosaics. Consider a glitter
listello or a mosaic pattern, which can easily be cut to the size required. A 10cm mosaic border is a nice visual size, while not being too overpowering. Bathrooms can have quite some waste, consider going for a smaller or
rectangular shape tile instead of larger. When shopping for a tile, always inform your sales assistant of the size of the bathroom, in this way the best tile can already be prechosen without having to look at the
whole collection and causing confusion! Most important: Have fun. Stress is not going to help anyone make a good decision.

ADAM kom 27 JUNE 2014
ENTERTAINMENT
Cowboys & Crooks, 2. Sal Oorlog Vir Jou Maak, 3. Goud, 4. Ek lief jou 2, 5. Smoorverlief, 6. Sprokie (Ek’s nie ‘n prins nie), 7. Ek lewe, 8. My vrou, 9. My hart smelt, 10. Supertster en 11. Huiloë asook die Bonus snitte Ek wens elke dag was Kersfees en To be with you met Cindy Alter & CH 2.

Björn Akstinat, Leiter der Internationalen Me-
– was das Foto Ihres Berichtes bezeugt.

Third annual General Tyre 4 x 4 African Adventure heads for Namibia The third annual General Tyre 4x4 African Adventure will be setting off from Port Elizabeth on 3 July 2014, and is heading for the rugged terrain of Namibia. Following the successful 2012 and 2013 expeditions, which travelled as far north as Zambia and Malawi, the 2014 African Adventure will see nine vehicles and 18 people exploring the abundant adventure attractions that define this sparsely populated desert nation. While highlighting the unspoilt natural beauty of Namibia with its rich palette of colours and textures, the 10-day General Tyre 4x4 African Adventure, led by Adventure Junkies Eastern Cape, will once again be proving the exceptional performance of the General Grabber 4x4 tyre range. The current line-up comprises the locally produced all-terrain Grabber AT, along with the heavy-duty mud-terrain Grabber MT. “The General Grabber AT and the Grabber MT have proven themselves to be exceptionally capable in all types of terrain, from the rocky mountains of Zambia to the treacherous mud encountered in Botswana and Mozambique,” says Niel Langner, marketing manager for Continental Tyre South Africa. “Namibia will present a new challenge to showcase the remarkable performance of the General Grabber AT and MT in desert conditions, while
providing some truly spectacular driving and equally breathtaking scenery.” The convoy sets off from Port Elizabeth on 3 July and travels via Upington to the Augrabies Falls National Park. After crossing the border at Onseepkans, the group heads for Ai-Ais in the Fish River Canyon, which is renowned as the second-largest canyon in the world, and the largest in Africa. It features a gigantic ravine that is 160 km long, up to 27 km wide in places and almost 550 m deep. Thereafter, the convoy continues on to the high red dunes of Sossusvlei that characterise the southern fringes of the ancient Namib Desert, and then through to Swakopmund via the Kuiseb Canyon. Walvis Bay is renowned as an adventure sports mecca, and the group will also have plenty of time to participate in a wide variety of activities that take place in the towering sand dunes typical of this area. Eventually the convoy will make its way south via Keetmanshoop and cross back into South Africa for the return leg on 12 and 13 July. The route is expected to cover approximately 5 000 km, of which more than
1 500 km will be on Namibia’s gravel roads and sand trails. Once again the General Tyre 4x4 African Adventure will support a local community project along the way. Continental Tyre SA will be donating funds to the Michelle McLean Primary School in Otjomuise on the outskirts of Namibia’s capital, Windhoek. The school, started 22 years ago by the country’s wellknown 1992 Miss Universe, Michelle McLeanBailey, is the largest single project undertaken by the Michelle McLean Children Trust. It was opened in 2000 as a joint venture with Namibia’s Ministry of Basic Education, Sport and Culture, and plays a crucial role in the educational foundation for children in this area. On previous trips Continental Tyre SA supported two schools in Zambia: the Malambu Middle School near Monze, which received funding for additional classrooms during the 2012 African Adventure, and the remote Maamba Mines School, which was assisted in 2013 with the donation of essential learning materials, sporting goods and Stop Hunger Now food parcels.

Sheer attraction Thanks to an intelligent lightweight-design concept boasting weight savings of up to 100 kilograms, excellent aerodynamics and new economical engines, the C-Class establishes new efficiency benchmarks in its segment. A host of new assistance systems offers safety of the highest standard, while a new optional air-sprung suspension provides for exemplary ride and driving comfort as well as nimble and agile handling. In terms of appearance the new C-Class adopts a progressive approach with its clear yet emotional design and its high-class interior. Many other innovations and equipment features underscore the sedan's energising comfort and refined sportiness. The high-class appeal of the new C-Class is an "upgrade to a higher class of vehicle". “The C-Class is a best seller that has always been a trendsetter in the midsize luxury segment. This is also true for the new C-Class as it comes with qualities usually reserved for higher-class vehicles - environmentally responsible, technologically advanced and high levels of comfort and driving enjoyment,” says Florian Seidler, Vice President, Mercedes-Benz Cars South Africa. With a sensuous and clear design and a host of technical innovations, the new C-Class offers a comprehensive scope of standard equipment and exemplary emissions and fuel consumption figures. This all adds up to substantial added value and long-term fuel savings. “Our new C-Class embodies what we understand modern automotive luxury to be and showcases automotive passion by way of a contemporary design idiom. We are confident that our new C-Class will be a huge success,” adds Seidler. The C-Class has grown to take account of people's increasing average height. With an 80-millimetre increase in the wheelbase (2 840 millimetres) compared with the previous
model, the vehicle is 95 millimetres longer (4 686 millimetres) and 40 millimetres wider (1 810 millimetres). The result is a more spacious interior. At 480 litres the new C-Class also surpasses its predecessor in terms of boot capacity (in accordance with ISO 3832). Outstanding CO2 values “Powerful and efficient petrol and diesel engines, all equipped with the ECO start/stop function, provide for lively performance and great fun at the wheel. They also cut fuel consumption by up to 20% compared with the preceding model,” says Selvin Govender, Divisional Manager, Mercedes-Benz Cars. An advanced version of the proven 2.2-litre fourcylinder diesel engine is available with an output range of 125 kW. This BlueTEC diesel engine in the new C-Class is equipped with the established SCR technology (selective catalytic reduction) for particularly environment-friendly driving. BlueDIRECT petrol engines with third-generation direct injection. “In May 2014 we launch four model derivatives with power output ranging from 115 to 155 kW. Three of these are petrol models and include the C 180 BlueEFFICIENCY, the C 200 BlueEFFICIENCY and the C 250 BlueEFFICIENCY. The one diesel model that is available in May is the C 220 BlueTEC. Coming later in September 2014 will be the C 250 BlueTEC diesel with the C 300 BlueEFFICIENCY due in June 2015,” says Govender. Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive: the intelligent car “The new C-Class incorporates almost all of the new assistance systems which were only just recently introduced in the new S-Class and E-Class. The assistance systems, which are called “Intelligent Drive” by MercedesBenz, are fully integrated and enhance both comfort and safety,” adds Govender. The new C-Class offers numerous innovative safety and assistance systems.
It is equipped as standard with ATTENTION ASSIST, which can warn the driver of inattentiveness and fatigue. On highways the optional COMAND Online navigation function offers nearby break options as stopovers. The ATTENTION ASSIST function offers an adjustable level of sensitivity and can inform drivers in a separate view in the instrument cluster about their level of drowsiness and how long they have been driving since their last break. In addition to Adaptive Brake Assist, which offers protection from collisions from speeds as low as 7 km/h, standard-fit COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS also features an additional function: when the risk of collision persists and the driver fails to respond, the system is able to carry out partial autonomous braking at speeds of up to 70 km/h, thereby reducing the severity of collisions with slower or stopping vehicles. The system also brakes in response to stationary vehicles at a speed of up to 50 km/h, and is able to prevent rear-end collisions at up to 40 km/h. Airbags for safety In addition to 3-point safety belts with pyrotechnical belt tensioning and beltforce limitation for driver, front passenger and those in the outer rear seats, numerous airbags serve to protect the vehicle's occupants in an accident. PremiumDrive - 'Classleading' maintenance package As with all Mercedes-Benz passenger cars, the new C-Class comes standard with the 6-years/100 000 km maintenance contract with no customer contribution and the option to extend. The new C-Class is introduced at: C 180 BlueEFFICIENCY N$420 000 C 200 BlueEFFICIENCY N$440 000 C 250 BlueEFFICIENCY N$507 000 C 220 BlueTEC N$463 000

Tears streamed down my face when I saw you that way. I love you Pa I will love u every day. As my tears raced down my face, I knew you’d soon be in a happier place. My love will follow you wherever you go. Oh how I loved you so. Although I feel sorrow and pain. You can’t fight fade. You told me everything as time passed by and by. I never wanted you to die that way. We did a lot together throughout the years. I want you to know I will let you go. I know you’d loved me too. Now its time to say good bye until we meet again someday!

Ndaendapo and Felesianu up for title fights IBF Continental Africa Jr. Lightweight Abraham “King Energy” Ndaendapo will defend his title on 7 July in Windhoek. Ndaendapo’s tempo in the ring is accompanied by his enchanting punching power and his resilience to withstand his opponent’s aggressiveness. He is labelled as a cunning and methodical fighter and caused many boxers to change their weights so as to avoid meeting him in his amateur career. Ndaendapo is rated as one of the best up and coming boxers that Namibia has in the African continental’s titles. The former IBF Youth Featherweight Albinus “Prince Albinos” Fele-
sianu will meet Algerian Aberkanea Aberkanea for the vacant “IBF Africa, Middle East & Persian Gulf (IBF AM&PG)” diadem in another rumble. Albinos won the IBF Youth Featherweight Title, but age made it difficult for him to defend it hence his pursuing the senior title. He is hungry in the ring and on the road to bigger things. Kinda Promotions is promoting Abraham “Energy” Ndaendapo while Warriors Boxing Promotions is promoting the Albinus Felesianu vs Aberkanea Aberkanea clash.

Rossmund Golf Club News An eventful and busy period at Rossmund, this past week, and plenty of golf played over the weekend. Great weather and some good scores to record, both from Rossmund and Windhoek. Last Friday we had a sponsored day at Rossmund by kind favour of MTC, who once again went out of their way to give us a splendid event. Thank you Tim Ekandjo, Jennifer van Rooyen and your team. Generous prizes were handed out and the overall winners were Intumba Trading, Swakopmund Municipality, and Nampol Henties Bay; which all tied on 89 points. In all 20 teams participated, and a great afternoon was had by everyone. Then on Saturday two events took place: in Windhoek and Omeya, in which the Rossmund golfers distinguished themselves. The results have already been reported in the national press, but we are proud to again congratulate Caro Els, who was crowned Namibian Ladies Open Strokeplay Champion at the Omeya Golf Club. Her overall gross score was 158 and she was closely followed by Jessica Dreesbeimdieke (another previous Rossmund junior player, now living in the USA) on 162. This event was sponsored by
Bank Windhoek. At the same time another Rossmund (Junior) golfer, Paul Ndeilenge finished second in the First Windhoek Lager Africa Jacket Challenge, with a score of 224 (after three rounds) and was narrowly beaten by Zambian golfer Mwalikwa Sondashi (on 217). Well Done Paul. At Rossmund, on Saturday , once again Bank Windhoek sponsored a Better Ball Medal competition and this was well supported, with S Bonifasius and S Ndalumbumo being the overall winners on 60 pts. There were 6 x2 club winners and Peter Witt must be congratulated on his HOLE in 1 on Hole 7. Thank you Bank Windhoek for your ongoing support. On Sunday the Swakopmund SAGES held their monthly event. 23 players participated and the winners were V Moll (39) followed by G Vogel (38) and M. Jacobs (37) . Special thanks to all the Walvis Bay SAGES who travelled to join us – we are sure you had a good day. H Grobler won Nearest the pin (7) and J Grutemeier nearest, on Hole 12. This month the completion was kindly sponsored by
Jockel Grutemeier from Namibia Tracks and Trails. Wednesday afternoon golf was sponsored by Brigadoon Bed and Breakfast. The winners were: 18 Holes J Kok , runner-up E Bergh, and the 9 hole winner was F Coetzee Snr. Thanks for supporting the Club on Wednesdays. Next Wednesday 26th June; 9 hole players must play the back nine, holes 10 to 18. This weekend our Seniors travel to Karibib to compete in the Klippenberg Challenge, an annual event where the Central Seniors (Windhoek) take on the Coast (Swakomund) Seniors. Bring home the Fanie Augustyn trophy to Rossmund after losing to Windhoek last year! The Swakopmund Open takes place this Saturday: 36 holes for the A and B Divisions (H/cap to 12) 18 holes C Division and Lady golfers. Turn up to watch some good competitive golf and give us your support. A reminder – please complete your match play by 15 July, if not, the ‘top’ name goes through to the next round. ‘If you think it is hard to meet new people, try picking up the wrong golf ball.’

changed drastically, with hospital rooms becoming his home. In the eight months after his diagnosis, Botes had three bone-marrow transplants. His initial improvement was short-lived, though, as he had a relapse two years later. His health took a turn for the worse and on June 18, 2012 he was diagnosed with an aggressive plasma-cell leukaemia. Botes’s health deteriorated and he was admitted to Paramount Hospital on 21 June and succumbed to his illness two days later on 23 June.

ERA is looking forward to take on United III on Saturday
ERA vs United 3 Narraville is in for a rugby treat tomorrow, when Erongo Rugby Academy (ERA) clashes on their home turf with United 3. This is ERA’s 4th NRU First League match of the year, and they will try to avenge their loss to United in the first round of the competition in Windhoek. ERA will aim to build on their success after they cashed in victories against UNAM and Eastern Bulls. The team find themselves currently in third position on the central log, with United edging ahead on points difference. Both teams playing this weekend have earned 10 competition points thus
far. ERA’s record for the season this year is as follows: Played - 3, Won 2, Lost - 1. The team boasts with five of their players being part of the regional team, namely the Western Chiefs. These players are Torrasio Croza, Pierre Beukes, Ricardo Damens, Bradley Claassen and Chessborough Lawrence. Lawrence was also called up for the Namibian 7’s squad earlier this month. United will look to take
ERA on upfront, with their heavy forwards. ERA has shown that they can stand up to such heavy packs, during their pre-season games against Kudus 2 and Dolphins. It is however with their sharp and witty backline, that ERA will look to pin down United. ERA’s players and management would like to invite all rugby lovers at the coast to this rugby fest. Game kicks off at 15:00, and gate fees are N$10 per person and N$10 per car.
Western Spurs defeated Tutaleni Eagles 5-3 and Mighty Youngsters defeated Sailors 4-3. Spurs created numerous opportunities but failed to convert any in the opening stages of the match. Striker William Buffel hit the upright and squandered another opportunity by shooting agonisingly wide. Defender Ashwin Engelbrecht had a shot blocked by Eagles keeper Pama Kavita and striker Justin Plaatje hit the crossbar. Jason Johannes cleared a goal bound shot from the goal line. Ashley Haragaeb scored the first goal for Eagles. Spurs finally got their act together and Jade-lee Moses scored the equaliser and clipped the Eagles keeper Kavita’s wings when he latched onto a free kick by Alex Melani in the second half. When Kavita punched away a Justin Plaatje shot, the deflected ball fell within Moses’ reach and he struck it perfectly and put the rebound into the
a back of the net for a second goal for Spurs. Substitute striker Tyrone Mouton replaced Buffel and immediately made his presence felt. His first attempt went wide but he rectified this with a goal and made the score 3-1 in favour of Spurs. Haragaeb made the score 3-2 with a goal for Eagles after a laps of concentration by the Spurs defenders. Lameka Naakta equalised for Eagles. Mouton out-jumped the Eagles defenders and headed home a Diego Fransman cross and put Spurs once again the lead. Fransman had the final say and scored a fifth goal for Spurs with a well-struck free kick in the dying minutes of the match. Mighty Youngsters’ R Kanjanga handed Sailors the lead with an own goal in the 5th minute. Donald Imbili missed a sitter for Mighty Youngsters. Captain Nelson Shipana equalised from the penalty spot for Mighty Youngsters after a Sailors play-
er handled the ball in the box and referee Nashenda pointed to the spot. Denzil Okamara handed Sailors the lead and made the score 2-1 before the break. Donald Imbili atoned for his early miss and levelled the scores (2-2) when play resumed. Shahied Humphries added a third goal for Mighty Youngsters. G Kaapona of Sailors levelled the scores (3-3) once again. Faud Brenner scored the winner for Youngsters. Northern Stars won the
Erongo Second Division Soccer league with 24 points from 10 games and will represent the region at the Promotional Playoffs. Salors finished second with 23 points and Navy third with 20 points. M Halupe from Navy FC finished as the top goal scorer with 14 goals. F Klippert of Swakopmund Football Club and C Mubiana of Northern Stars jointly finished second with 9 goals each. S Wilbard finished third with 8 goals.

EBH T20
Cr i c ke t U p da t e Stumped - Action from an EBH T20 match played at the Walvis Bay Oval
The proof is clearly there to see that hosting the now internationally known EBH T20 without a field, will never be achievable. Nonetheless the Sparta cricket field will still be unavailable for another 2 to 3 weeks. Thus enforcing a change to fixtures and extending the league meaning the final weekend will move from 12 & 13 July to 19th July 2014. The cold winter weather and east wind contributed to the problem.

After a meeting with the SPARTA grounds men we resolved that the only solution will be to continue and play the game of cricket and have fun. On a light and positive note have a look at the ICC-ACA (International Cricket Council-Africa Cricket Association) newsletter, sent to all Test playing, Associated and Affiliated cricket
countries around the Globe. The appreciation and ack-nowledgement on the May Newsflash of the ICCACA proofs how EBH Namibia’s partnership with cricket at the coast plays a vital role. Best of Luck to All Teams for the weekend. Week 6 - 28 & 29 June 2104 fixtu-
