Pastor Abner Dourob was sent to prison in November 2010 after he was found guilty in the Swakopmund Regional Court of raping a 16-year-old churchgoer. The victim testified that Dourob was praying while he raped her and apparently said “Amen”, when he had finished violating her. Magistrate Gaynor Poulton sentenced Dourob to seven years in prison for raping the schoolgirl. Dourob's wife and children were reportedly in the house in Walvis Bay on that fateful day in November 2008, when he raped the learner in a room outside his main house. It was reported that she had gone to the pastor for counselling and had asked him to pray for her, as she was struggling with her studies. Dourob admitted her to the prayer room outside his house, but then asked her to step outside for a moment, while he attended to other people in need of prayer. When he let her back inside, Dourob started to rub oil on her genitals and then proceeded to have sex with the bewildered schoolgirl, while he was praying fervently throughout the assault. A criminal investigation followed after she told a friend at school about the incident and word got out that the pastor had raped a member of his flock in his prayer room. Dourob died in the Windhoek State Hospital last week of an unidentified illness. A memorial service was held for him in Walvis Bay yesterday. He will be buried in Usakos on Saturday.
