fitness Weight Room Age Policy

The weight room is reserved for individuals 15 years and older. Youth 13 and 14 years old may obtain weight room privileges by completing the NRC’s Youth Strength Training Course. The NRC offers the ZONE for 10-14 years olds and functional training under certain parameters for those as young as 6 years old. Each youth participant must complete an orientation with a trainer and sign a “Youth Training Pledge and Consent” form along with their parent before engaging in training.

The ZONE (Youth Fitness Center)

The ZONE features strength training equipment specifically engineered for youth ages 10-14. Stop by or call the weight room for more information or to schedule an orientation. Member Free, Non-Member $15

Youth Strength Training Course

By successfully completing this 11-hour course, youth ages 13 and 14 years will be granted use of the weight room. This course will focus on safe, productive training and practical experience. Classes are ongoing and require pre-registration at the Program Desk. Member $16, Non-Member $55

Trainers are available to assist any member needing special assistance due to physical limitations. To request assistance, talk with a trainer.

This six week course will cover a variety of equipment and free weights to help you feel more comfortable in the weight room. youth programs Kids in Action Day Camp-(KIA)

The Nampa Rec Center, Kids in Action day camp program is a great way to keep your kids active when school is out. Kids in Action gets your kids moving in a supervised, safe environment. Kindergarten through fifth graders stay actively engaged before and after school, or full day care is available too! Transportation is included to and from any Nampa public school with additional 50¢ charge. No commitment, you only pay for the days your child attends and credits are issued when your plans change, if you call by 12:30pm. A $5 late fee will be charged if your child has not been paid for by the end of the day of attendance. Call 468-5858 for more information or to set up a tour to see for yourself. Snack and Lunch

Snacks are provided for program participants. Parents must provide their children with a lunch for the Full-Day program. Parents may choose to purchase a lunch through the Rec Center. Meal is provided by either Blimpies, Del Taco or Pizza Hut. Lunch order must be placed by 10am. Cost is $3/lunch, $13/5-punch card or $25/10-punch card.

The sport form of judo uses scientific principles to throw, trip, sweep or otherwise propel one’s opponent to the mat. Once there, the same theories apply to control and immobilize the opponent to achieve victory in competition. Safety, sportsmanship, self-discipline, cooperation and FUN are the emphasis in the youth class. Cost does not include uniform, see instructor for price. Traditions Tang Soo Do

This class teaches self confidence, builds self-esteem and improves balance, while establishing discipline and courtesy towards others. Participants will learn age appropriate self-defense and weapons training. These classes are non-violent; sparring is optional. This American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Course demonstrates how to teach Red Cross swimming lessons and set up lesson plans. If you have a desire to become a swimming instructor then this is the perfect class for you. Course prerequisites are 25 yards in the following 6 strokes: front crawl, backcrawl, breaststroke, butterfly, sidestroke, and elementary backstroke. American Red Cross Lifeguarding

This course is designed for experienced swimmers ages 15 and older that want to become Red Cross Lifeguards. Advanced skills are taught and information about lifesaving techniques will be presented. Course prerequisites are: 300 yard swim using front crawl and breaststroke, retrieval of a 10 pound brick from 7ft of water and two minutes of treading water with no hands. Swim Idaho!

Swim Idaho! Is a way for lap swimmers to chart their progress, set goals and conquer those goals. Swimming bench marks are: 102 miles the distance of the Boise River, 425 miles the distance of the Salmon River, 779 miles the distance of the length and width of Idaho and finally 1,076 the distance of the mighty Snake River. Traditions Tang Soo Do

This class teaches self confidence, builds self-esteem and improves balance, while establishing discipline and courtesy towards others. Fencing

This class will teach students the theory of modern fencing, coordination between mind and body, and basic and competitive fencing. Fencing develops concentration, ambition, imagination, perception and analytical thinking. This will be combined with fencing’s conditioning that improves endurance and coordination. Pickleball Lessons

Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in America. It is a combination of badminton, tennis and ping pong. It can be played indoors or outdoors on a badminton size court using a whiffle ball and composite paddle. It is easy for beginners to learn and can develop into competitive play for experienced players. Gym shoes required. Adult Basketball League

Nampa Recreation Department is offering an Adult Basketball League beginning in January. Each team will play eight games followed by a double elimination tournament. All games will consist of two 20 minute halves. Non-competitive leagues will play on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday evenings. Competitive leagues will play Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday evenings. Teams may be moved divisions after they have played four games. Game times will be 7pm, 8pm or 9pm. League play will begin the week of January 2. Time to dust off your Frisbees and round up your team to make some Frisbee highlight reels. This league will be the place to be whether you’re just interested in hanging out and playing some Frisbee on a Saturday morning or looking for some competition to put your skills to the test. Frisbees will be provided for the games. Teams will play 7 on 7 games on Saturday mornings at Liberty Park starting on September 10. Climbing at City of Rocks

The Nampa Recreation Department has teamed up with The City of Rocks Natural Preserve climbing instructors to bring you a full-day field trip. We will travel to the City of the Rocks, participate in a 3 hour climbing lesson, practice our new skills and explore the geological beauty of the canyons. Snake River Rafting - Hagerman Section

Join the Nampa Recreation Department and Idaho Guide Services for this half day rafting adventure down the Snake River. Plan to get wet as we paddle through numerous Class 3 rapids and jump out to swim around in calmer sections. Trip includes transportation and rafting. Bring your own lunch. Zip Line with Zip the Snake

Join us for a beautiful fall field trip to the Snake River Canyon in Twin Falls for ziplining. Experienced guides will ensure your safety as well as provide historic information about the canyon. You will hike approx Âź mile total and climb mild grades between 4 zip lines. Bring a lunch and sense of adventure. Trip includes transportation, water, snacks, and admission. Table Rock Hike

Come enjoy the stunning views of Boise as we hike to the top of Table Rock. Bring your lunch and enjoy the valley from a different perspective. The hike will start from The Old Penitentiary parking lot and climb approximately 1.5 miles to table rock. This 3-4 mile hike is an intermediate level hike with some steep grades. Jump Creek Hike

Join the Nampa Recreation Department as we explore Jump Creek Canyon. The trail to the waterfalls is an easy Âź mile hike. After exploring the waterfall we will hike to the top of the ridge to get a better view of the surrounding landscape. Dress for the weather and pack your own lunch. Join the Nampa Recreation Department as we take the short journey to the College of Idaho. Towering cliffs painted in desert hues and honeycombed rock formations sculpted over millions of years form the landscape of this remote region. The Nampa Senior Center, adjoining the Nampa Recreation Center’s east side, is a wonderful place for seniors to enjoy an assortment of fun activities. The game is played with a soccer ball on the golf course and the goal is to kick it down the course in as few kicks as possible.
