Weight Room Age Policy
The weight room is reserved for individuals 15 years and older. Youth 13 and 14 years old may obtain weight room privileges by completing the HRC’s Youth Strength Training Course. The HRC offers the ZONE for 10-14 years olds and functional training under certain parameters for those as young as 6 years old. Each youth participant must complete an orientation with a trainer and sign a “Youth Training Pledge and Consent” form along with their parent before engaging in training.

The ZONE features 9 pieces of strength training equipment specifically engineered for youth ages 10-14. Stop by or call the weight room for more information or to schedule the required orientation.

Youth Functional Training
Improve strength, endurance, balance, coordination, and flexibility with real-life movements and age-appropriate exercises. Equipment could include, battle ropes, medicine balls, glides, stability balls, tire, and TRX etc. Orientation required, and for youth ages 6-9 a parent must be present during the orientation and for workouts.

Youth Strength Training Course
By successfully completing this 4-day course, youth ages 13 and 14 years will be granted use of the weight room including the free weights (some restrictions will apply). This course will focus on safe, productive training and practical experience. Participants are required to attend the entire class and pass both a written and practical exam. Classes require preregistration at the Program Desk.

Body Composition
Determine the amount of fat and muscle that makes up your weight using a 3-site caliper test or bioelectrical impedance test.

Trainers are available to assist any member needing special assistance due to physical limitations. To request assistance, talk with a trainer.
Individual Personal Training
Ongoing sessions (60 minutes) which build upon the foundations of the preceding sessions will provide the extra motivation, variety, and accountability to help you reach your health, fitness, or performance goals. Contact the Fitness Supervisor with questions.
Balance & Fall Prevention Class
This class will help increase mobility and independence by improving lower body strength, endurance, flexibility, and bone mass, which can help reduce the risk of falling. Class participants must be able to perform the exercises independently. If some assistance is required, contact the Fitness Supervisor for possible options. Class participant may be dropped from session if they haven’t attended during the first 3 classes to allow customers on the wait list to join. Medical clearance required.

Strength Training for Women
This six-week course will cover a variety of equipment and free weights helping you to feel more comfortable in the weight room. Metabolic Testing
Learn how many calories your body burns in a day to establish a calorie budget, decrease the frequencies of plateaus, and improve your overall fitness with our highly accurate MedGemTM (an indirect calorimeter that measures VO2 and determines Resting Metabolic Rate). No exercise, food, or beverages (water ok) or certain nutritional supplements 4-8 hours and no nicotine 1 hour prior to assessment. Questions or to schedule an appointment, contact a trainer. Walking Club
Members earn a free t-shirt by walking or running at the Harward Recreation Center! Sign up at the weight room desk and chart your progress each day on the log sheet provided. Earn a t-shirt for 300, 1000 and 2000 miles.

Safe Sitter® Essentials
Safe Sitter® prepares students to be safe when they are home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting. Students learn lifesaving skills such as how to rescue someone who’s choking, and helpful information like what to do if there’s severe weather. Safe Sitter® courses are instructor led and interactive, with hands on demonstration and skills practice. Please bring a sack lunch.

Kids in Action Day Camp
The Harward Recreation Center Kids in Action Day Camp program offers a wonderful opportunity to keep your children engaged and active during school breaks. Our program ensures that children from kindergarten to fifth grade are supervised and participate in physical activities in a safe environment. Before and after school care is provided, as well as full day care based on the Nampa School District schedule (please refer to the calendar for details). Please note that a $5 late fee will be incurred if payment for your child is not received by the end of the day of attendance. Call 208-468-5858 for more information.

Traditions Tang Soo Do
This class teaches self-confidence, builds self-esteem, and improves balance, while establishing discipline and courtesy towards others. Participants will learn ageappropriate self-defense and weapons training. These classes are non-violent; sparring is optional. Students should wear loose fitting clothing, such as sweatpants and a t-shirt. No jewelry or watches during class. A mouth guard and a groin protector cup (males) are recommended.

Mario Kart/Super Smash Ultimate Tournaments
Join us for one of our Mario Kart Deluxe 8 and Super Smash Bros Ultimate Nintendo Switch tournament series. Although a competition in nature, this tournament series is meant to be fun and will no doubt have many levels of skill present. Tournaments will be double elimination with pool play to determine seeding. Mario Kart will be 150 cc, Smart Steering and Auto Acceleration will be turned off, and no CPU’s.
Super Smash Bros Ultimate will have a 7-minute time limit with 3 stocks per game. Contact Diego Estrada at 208-468-5858 for additional rules and stages.

WINGS Gymnastics
Gymnastics is a great physical foundation for kids of all ages that helps develop strength, coordination, physical fitness, and self-esteem. It will help prepare children for participation in all kinds of sports. Our instructors will help guide children in a positive atmosphere that helps develop their skills and selfconfidence. Each class is designed to teach progressions safely and allows the child to move at their own pace.
For a current class schedule or to register, visit the Rec Center website or stop by the Program Desk. A $10 additional fee will be charged for students who register on or after the 1st of the month. Monthly tuition is due by the 20th of the prior month to guarantee a place in the following month’s class. New student tuition will be prorated. Instructors cannot accept payment.

A parent-child interactive class! The instructor will show parents how to guide their child through various locomotive development obstacles, while teaching the fundamentals of gymnastics. This is a great class for kids to work on child independence which helps to prepare them for the Novas class.

Nampa Youth Basketball
Sponsored by the Nampa Recreation Department and Toyota and offered in cooperation with the Nampa School District.
This program will provide an opportunity for youth to learn basic skills and teamwork in a recreational atmosphere. Children register on a team coached by a parent volunteer. Each week, teams will have two 1-hour practices (kindergarten and first grade teams will have one 45-minute practice). Games are played on Saturdays. Practices and games are held at Nampa School District gyms.

HRC Pools
The Harward Rec Center houses five swimming pools for your exercise and recreational enjoyment. Programs consist of swimming lessons, aquatic safety classes, water aerobics and kayaking. Enjoy access to the Lap Pool, Rec Pool, Deep Pool, and Kids Pool. Open swim times will offer recreational play in pools of different sizes and temperatures. Pools may have limited availability, ask a lifeguard for more info.
Splash N’ Dash
We do the splashing… parents do the dashing! Parents, enjoy a Friday evening with each other while we actively entertain your children in the pools! For 3 hours our certified lifeguards and lesson staff will be in the water actively supervising, playing water games and having a blast swimming around. With those 3 hours enjoy dinner and a movie, get things caught up around the house, or just enjoy a relaxing night. Pre-registration is required.

Swim Idaho!
Swim Idaho! is a way for lap swimmers to chart their progress, set goals and conquer those goals. Swimming benchmarks are: 102 miles the distance of the Boise River, 425 miles the distance of the Salmon River, 779 miles the distance of the length and width of Idaho and finally 1,076 the distance of the mighty Snake River. T-shirts are awarded at each Idaho Benchmark. Ask a lifeguard how to start tracking your laps!

American Red Cross Lifeguarding
This course is designed for experienced swimmers ages 15 and older that want to become Red Cross Lifeguards. Advanced skills are taught and information about lifesaving techniques will be presented. Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid certifications are awarded upon successful completion of the course. Course prerequisite day: Students must complete the pre-requisite swim of a 300-yard swim using front crawl and/or breaststroke, retrieval of a 10-pound brick from 7ft of water and two minutes of treading water with no hands. You will then be given information about the online component which must be completed prior to the first full day of class. If you are unsure whether you can complete the prerequisites, sign up for a skills evaluation. Refund request must be made 4 business days before start of class.

Homeschool Swimming
The Harward Recreation Center is proud to offer a fun and energetic homeschool swimming P.E. program. Children of all swimming abilities will be able to participate in activities with other children of similar skills and ages in the swimming pool. Signups will be according to the American Red Cross level requirements. Each level will receive a 30-minute group lesson, and the rest is open recreational swimming time for the kids to interact, have fun and be active! Cost includes drop-in recreation swimming for children who are registered. If you are unsure of what level your child should be in, please sign up for a swimming skills evaluation.

• Refunds must be requested no less than 4 business days before the start of class. If you are unsure of whether your child will pass/retake, we recommend skipping a session to ensure you are registering for the correct class.
• Each child must pass a particular level before proceeding to the next level.
• Classes missed for vacation, injury, sickness or any other reason cannot be made up and are non-refundable.
• All age requirements must be followed unless instructor’s approval has been granted.
• It is not uncommon for a child to stay in a particular level for several sessions before successful completion.

Bob Ross Style Painting
Have you ever wanted to oil paint? Do you think it is possible for you to complete a painting that anyone would be proud to display? Well, it IS. Register for one or all of the classes. The pre-paint class will allow you to practice individual portions of the upcoming painting to help you develop a nicer painting. Pre-paint is optional because you will learn all you need for the full painting in the class. Adult Basketball League
Nampa Recreation Department is offering an Adult Basketball League. Each team will play eight games followed by a single elimination tournament. All games will consist of two 20-minute halves. Noncompetitive leagues will play on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday evenings. Competitive leagues will play Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday evenings. Teams may be moved divisions after they have played three games. Game times will be 7pm, 8pm or 9pm. Required team meeting November 21. (one representative from each team is required to attend). League play will begin the week of December 2. There will be a two week break between the 1st and 2nd half for Christmas Break.

Traditions Tang Soo Do
This class teaches self-confidence, builds self-esteem, and improves balance, while establishing discipline and courtesy towards others. Participants will learn age-appropriate self-defense and weapons training. These classes are nonviolent; sparring is optional. Students should wear loose fitting clothing, such as sweatpants and a t-shirt. No jewelry or watches during class. A mouth guard and a groin protector cup (males) are recommended.

Mammoth Cave and Shoshone Ice Caves
Millions of years ago, Idaho was the site of large volcanic eruptions. Mammoth Cave, one of the world’s largest volcanic caves and the Shoshone Indian Caves are a result of these eruptions. We will tour both caves and enjoy a scenic drive on this full day tour. Trip includes transportation, admission to the caves and museum and lunch. Bring a light jacket for inside the caves. Tours include narrow spaces and steps. Approximately one mile of walking.

Pendleton Oregon Overnight Trip
Visit the historic town of Pendleton, Oregon this Fall. We will be staying at the Historic Working Girl Hotel in downtown Pendleton. You will have plenty of free time for enjoying the town. Thursday morning, we will meet after breakfast for the World Famous Historical Underground Tours. This is an approximately 90-minute walking tour with stairs. Leslie Gulch
Towering cliffs painted in desert hues and honeycombed rock formations sculpted over millions of years for the landscape of this remote region. This class will help increase mobility and independence by improving lower body strength, endurance, flexibility, and bone mass, which can help reduce the risk of falling. Park Facilities
Reservations for park facilities are taken up to one year in advance on a first come, first-served basis and receive priority over drop-in groups. Rates are based on an 11am-4pm or 4:30pm-Dark time-block and include power & dumpster fees (Rose Garden Shelter and Amphitheater timeblocks are 9am-3pm or 4pm-Dark).

Parks & Rec Facility Rentals
Are you planning a wedding, family gathering, company party, special event or picnic? The Nampa Parks and Recreation Department is here to help! We invite you to reserve one of the many multi-purpose facilities the department offers.
Birthday Party Room at HRC
We’ll provide a designated space for 2 hours and balloon bouquet! Enjoy a variety of activities in our facility for the entire day at a discounted rate.

After Hours Rental at Harward Recreation Center
$1,000 for 4 hours
($125 each additional hour)
Additional fee for pool area. Call the Rec Center for details and reservations.
Senior Center Dining Hall
The Nampa Senior Center Main Dining Hall seats up to 150 people. Space available Saturdays between 8am-7pm and Sundays between 11am-6pm. Call the Rec Center for additional details and to secure your date. $300 for 4 hours ($50 each additional hour)
Kohlerlawn Cemetery
Kohlerlawn Cemetery is publicly owned and operated by the City of Nampa. The Cemetery is open to visitors each day beginning at dawn and closes each evening at dusk. For burial space fees, opening and closing prices, decoration guidelines and monument setting policies, please visit our website, nampaparksandrecreation.org.
Leaf Recycling
Recycle the leaves from your yard with Kohlerlawn Cemetery’s leaf recycling program. Leaves are composted into mulch for use in parks. Signs will be posted near the cemetery that give directions to specific “drop off” location. Loose leaves only, no bags or other non-recyclable materials. Sorry, tree limbs and brush are not allowed. Due to limited space in the composting area, Kohlerlawn’s leaf recycling program is a service for Nampa citizens only and is closed to commercial landscaping contractors.

Right of Way Tree Planting Program
This program is designed to assist homeowners with proper tree selection and planting within the public right-of-way on their property. The fall planting period begins in September and runs as long as tree availability or weather conditions allow. Contact Nampa Parks & Forestry to schedule an appointment or for more information.

The City offers miles of existing pathways and trails and has developed a bike and pedestrian master plan that projects for more pathways and trails in the future. Nampa citizens and visitors will enjoy running, walking, in-line skating or bicycling on the Nampa Pathway System. For maps, etiquette and more, visit our website.
