fitness Weight Room Age Policy
The weight room is reserved for individuals 15 years and older. Youth 13 and 14 years old may obtain weight room privileges by completing the NRC’s Youth Strength Training Course. The NRC offers the ZONE for 10-14 years olds and functional training under certain parameters for those as young as 6 years old. Each youth participant must complete an orientation with a trainer and sign a “Youth Training Pledge and Consent” form along with their parent before engaging in training.

Balance & Fall Prevention Class

youth programs Kids in Action Day Camp-(KIA)
The Nampa Rec Center, Kids in Action day camp program is a great way to keep your kids active when school is out. Kids in Action gets your kids moving in a supervised, safe environment. Kindergarten through fifth graders stay actively engaged before and after school, or full day care is available too! Transportation is included to and from any Nampa public school with additional 50¢ charge. No commitment, you only pay for the days your child attends and credits are issued when your plans change, if you call by 12:30pm. A $5 late fee will be charged if your child has not been paid for by the end of the day of attendance. Call 468-5858 for more information or to set up a tour to see for yourself. The sport form of judo uses scientific principles to throw, trip, sweep or otherwise propel one’s opponent to the mat. Once there, the same theories apply to control and immobilize the opponent to achieve victory in competition. Safety, sportsmanship, self-discipline, cooperation and FUN are the emphasis in the youth class. Cost does not include uniform, see instructor for price. Traditions Tang Soo Do
This class teaches self confidence, builds self-esteem and improves balance, while establishing discipline and courtesy towards others. Participants will learn age appropriate self-defense and weapons training. These classes are non-violent; sparring is optional. Students should wear loose fitting clothing, such as sweat pants and a t-shirt. No jewelry or watches during class. A mouth guard and a groin protector cup (males) are recommended. The Nampa Rec Center houses five swimming pools for your exercise and recreational enjoyment. Programs consist of swimming lessons, aquatic safety classes, water aerobics and kayaking. Enjoy access to the Lap Pool, Rec Pool, Deep Pool, and Kids Pool. Open swim times will offer recreational play in pools of different sizes and temperatures. The Nampa Recreation Center Lap Pool will be available starting September 2017 on Fridays from 7:15-9:30pm for open kayaking. Swim Idaho! Is a way for lap swimmers to chart their progress, set goals and conquer those goals. Swimming bench marks are: 102 miles the distance of the Boise River, 425 miles the distance of the Salmon River, 779 miles the distance of the length and width of Idaho and finally 1,076 the distance of the mighty Snake River. T-shirts are awarded at each Idaho Bench Mark. Ask a lifeguard how to start tracking your laps!

Homeschool Swimming
The Nampa Recreation Center is proud to offer a fun and energetic homeschool swimming P.E. program. Children of all swimming abilities will be able to participate in activities with other children of similar skills and ages in the swimming pool. On the first day children will be split up based swimming ability and age. During the two hour period each level group will receive a 30 minute group lesson from one of our nationally certified instructors, the rest is open recreational swimming time for the kids to interact, have fun and be active! Ages 5-17 Session I (Wednesdays): August 30-October 18 Session II (Thursdays): August 31–October 19 (*No Class Sept 7 makeup Tues, Sept 5) Session III (Wednesdays): October 25-December 20 (*No Class November 22) Session IV (Thursdays): October 26–December 21 (*No class November 23) 11am-1pm Member $30, Non-Member $50 Cost includes drop in recreation swimming during the 2 hour class period for children who are registered.
CPR/AED & First Aid Class
Course is designed to teach participants to recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing and first aid emergencies. Jr. Lifeguard Boot Camp
Come join us during Christmas break for a Jr. Guard bootcamp. Learn about what it takes to be a lifeguard, such as recognizing a drowning victim, how to assist someone who is struggling in the water and how to perform CPR and first aid. You must be able to swim 25 yards front crawl and 25 yards breaststroke as well as tread water for one minute and float for 30 seconds on your back. Upon completion each student will receive an American Red Cross CPR and First Aid Certification. Ages 11-14 December 27-30 2-6pm Nampa Rec Center Member $45, Non-member $55
swimming W.S.I. Water Safety Instructor Course
This American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Course demonstrates how to teach Red Cross swimming lessons and set up lesson plans. If you have a desire to become a swimming instructor then this is the perfect class for you. Course prerequisites are 25 yards in the following 6 strokes: front crawl, backcrawl, breaststroke, butterfly, sidestroke, and elementary backstroke. American Red Cross Lifeguarding
This course is designed for experienced swimmers ages 15 and older that want to become Red Cross Lifeguards. Advanced skills are taught and information about lifesaving techniques will be presented. Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid certifications are awarded upon successful completion of the course. Course prerequisites are: 300 yard swim using front crawl and breaststroke, retrieval of a 10 pound brick from 7ft of water and two minutes of treading water with no hands. We do the splashing‌ parents do the dashing! Parents, enjoy a Friday evening with each other while we actively entertain your children in the pools! Beginning Digital Photography
During this course, participants will learn the basics behind digital photography. We will learn how to use the camera on manual mode, how to set ISO, shutter speed and aperture in order to purposefully create an image. Participants will learn how to read light, and basic compositional rules. During this course participant will be given the opportunity to practice both in class with studio setup, as well as learn how to use natural light on location. Adult Basketball League
Nampa Recreation Department is offering an Adult Basketball League beginning in January. Each team will play eight games followed by a double elimination tournament. All games will consist of two 20 minute halves. Non-competitive leagues will play on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday evenings. Competitive leagues will play Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday evenings. Teams may be moved divisions after they have played four games. Game times will be 7pm, 8pm or 9pm. League play will begin the week of January 2. Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in America. It is a combination of badminton, tennis and ping pong. It can be played indoors or outdoors on a badminton size court using a whiffle ball and composite paddle. It is easy for beginners to learn and can develop into competitive play for experienced players. Gym shoes required. Traditions Tang Soo Do
This class teaches self confidence, builds self-esteem and improves balance, while establishing discipline and courtesy towards others. Participants will learn age appropriate self-defense and weapons training. These classes are non-violent; sparring is optional. Students should wear loose fitting clothing, such as sweat pants and a t-shirt. No jewelry or watches during class. A mouth guard and a groin protector cup (males) are recommended. Women’s Self-Defense Workshops
These workshops are designed for women of all age and athletic abilities. The one day workshop will cover: situational awareness, releases, proper falling and recovery techniques, effective punches, strikes, and kicks, and improved fitness. After completing the Introduction to Self Defense Workshop, students are eligible to take the Intermediate Self Defense Workshop. Students should wear loose fitting clothing. It is recommended that an adult accompanies youth 12-17 years.

Fencing
This class will teach students the theory of modern fencing, coordination between mind and body, and basic and competitive fencing. Come play in our 3 on 3 tournament at the local Creech’s court, across from the Lakeview Water Park. If you have wanted to participate in a triathlon but wanted to get started on a smaller scale this event is for you! Hells Canyon Jet Boat Adventure
Located at the south entrance of Hells Canyon, Hells Canyon Adventures will be providing a jet boat tour of the canyon allowing participants to enjoy the scenery in the deepest elevations, transitions of the canyon, and all wildlife that live there.
